We keep Able's business card handy for anything that goes wrong with our appliances. They fixed our dryer about a year ago and we were very happy with the result, the response time, the cost, etc. Last week our washer started making a disturbing noise. We called and set up a service call. The service guy called us before coming out and talked through the problem with us thoroughly and the anticipated cost of repairs. The result was we decided to just run the washer until it dies and then replace it. We really appreciated the honesty, expertise and advice which saved us a service call.

My daughters washing machine was making a racket during the spin cycle. She called me and asked for my advice regarding who to call for repair. I looked on Angie's list and found able appliance repair. I gave her the number she called and discussed the problem with a technician over the phone. The technician told her that he recognized the problem and could order parts without making a call to diagnose the problem. The technician told her that he would then come to the house to fix the problem on Friday. On Friday, my daughter waited all day without receiving a call. She called the appliance repair company and they had no record of her initial call. After making several other calls and discussing the problem. She was put in touch with the technician that she had initially talked with. He then advised her that he was not able to fix the washing machine because he couldn't get the parts he then advised her to call another company for repairs. Able dropped the ball big time.
Description of Work: Called and ask for the technician to make a service call to fix my daughters washing machine, tech called my daughter on the phone, told her he knew what the problem was after she described the sysmptons to him over the phone, he said that he would get the parts and come out on next friday after the call date, Friday came and went he didnt show up... my daughter called the office and they didnt have any record of her call, finally after some time on the phone the technician was located and he told my daughter to have someone else fix the machine, he didnt have the parts, he gave her the name of another company. So sh went another 2 weeks without the machine being repaired...

The service guy arrive on time, and as scheduled. He called from his previous location to let us know what time he would be arriving at our place. He was very professional, and - unfortunately - delivered us the bad news: the repair was going to cost as much as a new washer. He recommended we just get a new one. He could order the part, but he told us it was better to go with something newer (ours was 7 years old). He also gave us tips on which brands were performers (based on his calls), and what features to look for in the new machine. Was only charged for the service call ($10), as advertised.
Description of Work: We called for a service call on our Maytag washer: the agitator stopped working.

When our technician Rick, was dispatched to the home, the refrigerator was already pulled out. Rick with 22 years experience, found that the refrigerator had a bad compressor, he offered to put a start relay on to try to start the compressor, if that failed they would need a compressor. They declined and after getting on line the owner found that the compressor was out himself. After reading this review with an F rating, we contacted the owner who said that's right, you only deserve a F rating because we don't think he was there long enough to really diagnose it. We offered a free service call to make them happy. They responded by saying, No thanks we would rather give you a F rating. We have offered a $9.95 service call since we opened our doors. We have not changed it, because we wanted to offer the Kansas City area a decent service call and a company they can depend on. We showed up on time, we offered a low service call, and we gave them a correct diagnosis, at this point with them using a F rating on the all over review. It went very well. Alan seems very knowledgeable and was quick with his repairs. He showed up when he said he would and was able to fix the washer and was finished within 30 minutes. I will definitely use Able Appliances in the future.
Description of Work: Repaired my Whirlpool washing machine. The motor coupling piece was broken. He had the parts with him and was able to repair it within about 30 minutes.

It went smoothly and professionally. My major "like" was that Jim did not at any time try to sell me additional, uneeded things ... particularly, expensive equipment warranties (that Sears tried to do when I initially called them ... amazing how my old dishwasher just happened to qualify for a new extended warranty --- to the tune of about $280 --- and when I said no, they just "happened to notice" that a microwave oven we had bought years ago (and which is now broken and awaiting the junk pile) qualified for a similar warranty. Funny how they were going to service me that afternoon, but somehow, the service time turned out to be wrong after I refused the marketing schemes. Jim also was able to install the devices without pulling the dishwasher out of the cabinet in which it was housed (an extra benefit which avoided the possibility of scratching our wood floor). Although it appeared akward for him, he did it efficiently and spent at least 5 to ten minutes being sure there were no leaks ( in other words, it was not a short cut to help him finishe quicker). My experience is that I can trust Able Applianmce to provide very quick service, very minor delays, and honest work with no additional marketing schemes (IJim did amnswer questions and make suggestions (which I noted above). We would recommend Able Appliance to anyone looking for a good, reliable, honest, and efficient repair service company that comes out and does what needs to be done (without trying to sell you additional parts or services you don't want -- unless you specifically request them).
Description of Work: Jim (with Able) came out 02/07/13 and found that our dishwasher (and older Kenmore Elite) needed a Water Inlet and Fill Valve Assembly. The parts had to be ordered and were available the next day. Jim came out then (02/08/13) and installed the devices in less than 30 minutes. He also provided suggestions for helping avoid the failure of the two assemblies in the future (how to clean the dishwasher of sediment in our water by washing it out with vinegar for a short cycle) and the addition of a simple circuit breaker (a power strip with a circuit breaker built it ... about $5) to interrupt power in the event of a surge (which is what he thought caused the original equipment to fail).

See above for the story. As of 02/12/13 the refrigerator still isn't repaired. We are "limping along" with it and using our basement refrigerator as much as possible.
Description of Work: Prior to the repair person's arrival we had pulled the cover off the bottom front and unloaded the refrigerator of its trays and shelves. We had also vacuumed wherever possible and cleaned everywhere else. The repair person listened politely to our list of problems after we gave him the Model number. He looked over and under the refrigerator and said he didn't recognize that particular KitchenAid model, although he had worked on KitchenAid refrigerators before. He left shortly after that and didn't charge us a trip charge for his visit to our home. He didn't have any suggestions as to who else we should call to get our refrigerator repaired. I will likely not use this company's services again because they didn't ask about our model prior to sending anyone to our home. While I am thankful that the repair person didn't charge a "trip fee", it felt like a wasted morning after he left. Since the company is based about 35-40 minutes north of our home, this was an expensive cost for their business as well. This cost wouldn't have been incurred, if the company had gotten more information from me before the repair person made the visit.

Excellent experience with Jeremy. The problem was actually "OPERATOR ERROR". I was overfilling my bleach reservoir causing the bleach to siphon and run into the tub ruining towels and sheets. Jeremy went over the mechanics of the bleach dispenser and solved my problem. i was only charged a "service charge" $9.95......I was amazed. My machine is working like it should with a review from Jeremy. PS: I did not get off work until 4:30pm and they were happy to come after 5pm. Thanks so much a refreshing and wonderful experience. When I called to make the appointment, I gave them the make of the dishwasher and the problem. It needed a new seal on the door. The serviceman showed up and looked at it. Concluded it needed a new seal, which I already knew but he didn't have the part with him. heHedjusted the door so the existing seal would work and said the next service call would be free if I wanted him to come back with the part on another day. I decided to order the part on-line and fix it myself. I don't have so many vacation days that I can do that. I will probably not hire them again since they don't come prepared.

Our refrigerator decided to stop cooling on Christmas day. The next day, I called around to see if someone would be able to come out to see if it could be repaired. My first call was to a company that had previously done some work on our gas range and had also replaced a solenoid in the refrigerator that was causing problems with the icemaker. They told me that they were booked and would be unable to schedule anyone to come out for about 3 weeks. I called Able and they were able to schedule someone to come out the next afternoon. Their service technician showed up on time and quickly diagnosed an expired compressor. He checked pricing for the part and advised us that we could probably replace the old refrigerator with a newer higher efficiency unit for about the same price that it would cost to repair the old one. He was very professional and we will definitely use them in the future for any other needs.
Description of Work: Able came out to check out our refrigerator after it stopped cooling on Christmas day. They checked it out, said that the compressor had gone out and that we could probably but a new refrigerator for the amount that it would cost to replace the compressor on the old one.

Justin told me it is a family owned and operated company. I felt that he treated me like family or a respected friend providing me honest advice rather than taking my money.
Description of Work: Justin came to repair my Maytag Neptune MAH8700 washer and he was right on time. After verifying the model and checking the cycle, he informed me that it simply would not be worth repairing. He could have easily sold me temporary repairs or charged a high rate for a diagnostic fee. Instead he charged me nothing. I appreciated his knowledge and integrity and Able has earned my future business. rather than taking my money.

Contacted initially to consult about shorted power cord. The receptionist immediately forwarded me to a technician, who gave me an idea of what may be wrong with the unit. I contacted them later that afternoon for an appointment, and they were out in 24 hours. The technician was quick and friendly. He made repairs to the unit. By his observation, one of the three power cord contacts came loose and shorted out, suggesting an improper installation. Technician had all parts, so installation took about an hour or less. Very good company to work with. I would recommend for appliance repair.
Description of Work: Power cord on dryer shorted out. Instead of replacing myself, I called Able, and it turned out an additional power component required replacement.

Called the morning of January 17 to schedule repair. Could not come until January 18 between 9am and Noon. Said that repairman would call before coming. Told the appointment scheduler problem, type and make of machine, etc, Repairman called at 11:45 on the 18th and asked what the problem was , what type and make of machine, etc. He arrived at 12:25. Found the problem in minutes but did not have parts to repair. Said he needed a $100 deposit to get the part and that the total repair would be around $120.Said he would be back maybe tomorrow, the 19th when they came in. He called at 7:30 on the 18th and said he had the part and would be out in 30 minutes. Came and fixed the machine and charged $149. Repairman was very friendly and efficient, represented the company well, but we were not overall pleased with lack of communication between scheduler and repairman, the fact we had to pay a $100 deposit before he would get the needed part, and that they really didn't offer same day service as advertised.

Called on a Friday, sent someone on Saturday and returned to fix it on Monday after ordering part. Charlie was pleasant and prompt. He called when he was about 15min out each time. He was nice to my children who wanted to watch what he was doing and show him their toy tools. Repair took approx 30-45 min. Original charge was $279, but gave me a 10% Angie's list discount.
Description of Work: Replacement of the rubber on front load washer. (bellow seal) on Whirlpool washer.

The repairman called to let me know he was on his way, allowing me to work instead of waiting around the house.. I appreciated that. The parts he recommended replacing were not on his truck, so he had to go and get them. He told me he would be back by 4:30 pm. When he was still not at my house at 5:30, I called him to inquire if he still intended to return that evening. He assured me that he had been held up and would be at my house that evening. He did return later that evening. He rocked my washing machine back, propping it against my water heater (right on the gas pipe) to complete the repair. That freaked me out a bit. I offered to help him, but he ignored my offer. Luckily, there has been no trouble with my gas or water heater. Would have preferred he find another method.
Description of Work: Charged $279 to replace the transmission and clutch on my top loading Whirlpool washing machine. The repairman called to let me know he was on his way, allowing me to work instead of waiting around the house.. I appreciated that. Description of Work: Our Maytag washer was sounding like an airplane ready for take off and the spin cycle stopped working. Able Appliance had a service person out the next day. Our Maytag front load washer was giving us an F/H error during the first part of the wash cycle. Jeremy came out an checked the washer over and knew immediately what the problem was-failing waterflow valvue. Had to order the part and told us it would be in on Monday but the washer was usable. Jeremy came back on Monday 1/14 around 11:00 and promptly fixed our washer. This company is excellent. They have also worked on our Maytag front load dryer when the board went out. Prompt courteous service.
