Aleda and Bill Posladek are the founders of A.B. May. They purchased May Furnace Company in 1959. They renamed it A.B. May A for Aleda and B for Bill and set out to offer Kansas City comfort and top quality service with a few employees and four trucks. Over the years we have expanded to offer Heating, Cooling, Plumbing, Electrical, and Appliance repair services. In the mid-1970’s we pioneered one of the first homeowner warranties in the industry. Today, we give thousands of Kansas City homeowners a plan for home repairs through our Home Warranties for home buyers and our Gold, Silver, Bronze, and Value service plans. They a clean, thorough and very efficient.
Description of Work: I have an a full house warranty/maintenance contract with AB May, which includes the AC/Furnance maintenance twice a year; A/C in Spring/Summer and Furnace in Fall/Winter, this cost $649.00 a year and covers all appliances, electrical and plumbing.

They came when they said and as far as we know they did a fine job. We have a contract with them. He was very nice. We didn't compare the price.
Description of Work: We used A B May for a maintenance call for our heating. They cleaned and checked our furnace. They also check the air conditioner.

The experience has been pretty good. Over the years, they've been very responsive and I think that's usually the most important thing besides getting the work done. In some cases when you call companies, you are looking for a response pretty quick and an effective response pretty quick and they've been pretty good on that. They tend to follow up on things and it's just been very good experiences.

Our A/C unit quit cooling the first weekend in June. That turned out to be from an air filter that had not been changed causing the system to literally freeze up. After replacing the filter the system worked well for a week when it quit cooling again. We called a local company and was told the system was low on coolant. They put coolant in the system and charged us $235.00. Our system worked for a week and then it would not run. Some friends thought it might be the condenser had gone out. The A/C unit is from Trane and was still under warranty so I called A B May because they were the ones who installed it. They came out the same day that I called. They apologized that they could not get out there until evening but that worked out well with me because I did not have to take off work to meet them. The serviceman was prompt and called about 20 minutes before he showed up. He was very pleasant and very professional. After checking several things he determined that there was too much coolant in the system which was causing the system to shut down as a safety precaution. He drained the excess coolant off. The system still would not run. After further testing he found a faulty switch which he replaced. He warned us about using other companies that are not authorized by Trane. He said that he could have charged us to remove the excess coolant but he wasn't going to and the switch was covered under the Trane warranty. We were not even charged a trip charge. I will definitely call A B May again.
Description of Work: Our A/C was not cooling even though we had had another company service it a week before. It turns out that the other company had put too much coolant in the system which had caused the system to shut down. Also there was a relay switch that was faulty. The faulty switch was under warranty through Trane. The serviceman from A B May drained off the excess coolant and replaced the switch at no charge to us. We were not even charged a trip charge.

The process and the people were good. We were happy with everything; there was only one disappointment: that being they presented the tax credit not the way that it turned out to be. We did not get as much of a tax credit as we thought we would. It ended up not qualifying the way that we thought it was. But as far as the unit that they installed and the work they did we were happy with that. It was a really hot time and they gave us a loaner for a couple of days until they could get out and fix ours. I will use them again in the future.

I have used them a long time and they are reliable. They are very good. come when they say they are and reasonable. I have a yearly service program with them and pay $50 monthly so that allows a huge discount for me. This is also includes a spring and fall service check. I will use them again in the future.

We were under home warranty. The service technician came out and diagnosed that it was the electronic control. Several weeks later they finally came back out with the correct part. I had to basically guide the service technician through the replacement and repair the part because he lacked any common sense. They have been around for a long time.

We regret that the customer was not completely satisfied with the service provided. This report is for an oven repair in December, 2009. A home warranty was activated for this property on 12/14/09. Also on 12/14/09 we received a call for an oven display not working. The appliance technician arrived 12/17, diagnosed the problem & ordered a control board. The board was ordered 12/17 and received 12/21. The repair was completed 12/22. Even though the terms of the Home Warranty exclude coverage for preeixsting conditions, the customer was only charged the $60 home warranty service fee (a savings for the customer of $400). The Home Warranty expired in December 2010 and our offer to renew coverage was declined.

We have a service agreement with them. They come twice a year to service the furnace and the air conditioning unit. We've been pretty happy with them. I have had problems with them in the past when one guy was trying to get me to buy a new air conditioner. Most of them are very polite and prompt. Once it was 103 degrees and they were supposed to come to service my air conditioner but they never came because there was a heat wave and they had to go fix other peoples air conditioner. I can understand that and that did not upset me. I would prefer them to come to my house if that happened to me and if my air conditioner wasn't working. We keep renewing our contract with them.

I had to pay my deductible for my homeowner's policy. They have an extraordinary service management system. It is all done on a laptop with a technician so when he is done a copy of the invoice is mailed to me and he takes payment with a credit card or whatever right on site. It was a pretty amazing system and very professional. They had schedulers that stayed in touch with me up to 30 minutes so I could meet them if I wanted and didn't have to stay home all day. It was a rather pleasing experience compared to most service providers in that industry. The technician was very skilled. I don’t know what they charge for the service. I would use them again.
Description of Work: I used A B May as part of my homeowner's warranty. There was a problem with the air conditioner and they diagnosed and added some refrigerant.

We've had a Service Contract on our heating and air conditioning since the company was named Troug-Nichols (before A.B.May bought them out) for around 25+ years. We would not keep renewing the Service Contract if we didn't appreciate their service. The last service call (within the last month) was the only sub-standard one in that the service person tried (really for the first time for an AB May service person) to get me to discard the electronic air filter that I purchased from them when we had to replace our furnace and put in a media filter. I declined since the electronic air filter has done a great job. Then he wanted to sell me a "starter" for our air conditioning compressor (we also replaced the air conditioning through A.B. May and they never said anything about a starter). Will I renew our service contract - definitely. We're always received timely, competent service. In the 50 or so service calls they've made to our house (we had a service contract on three different houses with this company), I'm not going to trash them just because the last service call wasn't up to the quality we have come to expect. It was still fast and courteous and covered by our service contract.
Description of Work: This was just the routine Spring air conditioning tuneup - nothing was broken or needed replacement. They were courteous on the phone, prompt with offering appointment times, arrived on time, and finished on time. The cost was covered by our service contract.

They do try and push their home warranty service, we get the bronze service which covers bi-yearly maintenance on the AC and heater units, which is actually cheaper than paying for two individual non-covered services per year. We did get a quote to have a toilet replaced and the numbers they quoted us were shockingly high. For the same toilet I purchased at Lowes for $140, they wanted $390. And this was the low end. Of course if I purchased the Gold protection plan it would have been less, but then I would have dropped $250 on that plan.
Description of Work: Regular bi-yearly maintenance of AC unit. Came and performed maintenance. They were on time, quick, efficient, and clean.

They put in a top of the line, 95% efficient furnace. It is an amazing machine and it works beautifully. It is a nice silent fan. They are good and reliable. They do their job.

We were really pleased with their service and have had no subsequent problems. They were very professional. At the time they were offering a service agreement that covered all the appliances in the home for around $25, as I recall. We thought it was terrific idea, but never actually used it.

The first guy came out I told him that air conditioner fan was making noise in the back yard. He started messing with my furnace and not looking at my air conditioner. He pulled a piece out of furnace that was glued in. He said that was the part that was making noise, I tried to explain to him it was air conditioner not the furnace making noise. He ended up wiring the air conditioner so that it would not shut off. He had been at my house for 3 hours and nothing was accomplished. I called and complained, so they sent another guy out. The second guy contradicted everything the first guy said. I think the second guy might have sabatashed it because now it doesn't work at all and I'm stuck with no air. They did say they would refund my check.

We had some problems with the shower leaking so they had to come over a couple of times to fix that. It is working fine now. They changed the faucets and that did the trick. I would use them again.

I called about 9:45 PM because they said their info said they did emergency service. My power went out early Monday morning but by 8:00 AM it was back on, but the lights were intermittantly dimming. When I came home from work, I discovered that the air conditioner was on but not providing cold air, so I turned it off and all the lights went out. This was very strange and I was very upset. I called AB May, got the answering service, and Clark called me back in 14 minutes.I described the problem for him, and he said it sounded like a power company problem and recommended that I call them (the power company). He said he could come out and charge me for a trip to check but he was sure it was the power and not our electrical system. I called the power company (for the third time) and eventually this morning they came out and it was their problem after all, the lights are working now and everything is fine. I am going to call AB May for a general check of our power system. I was just really impressed by Clark's promptness and his honesty about the nature of the problem and his excellent helpfulness and I will definitely use this company any time I have an electrical issue.
Description of Work: Clark, an electrician from AB May returned my call after hours, 14 minutes after I first called in, and talked me through the problem with my house's power. Told me it was most likely a power company problem and advised me to call them first instead of having him come out and charge me for a service call - so he didn't charge me for a service that I didn't need.

Their service plans are well worth it and we plan to upgrade it and renew it. They are punctual and we have had a service call at night, which they showed up promptly. Great work and very professional. Great experience.
Description of Work: We bought a new home that came with an AB May service agreement. . They did a furnace repair at night, changed the water regulator so it gave us water pressure, and they did an AC checkout at the beginning of the season.

It was a warranty work that was already covered. They charge $60 per visit. They were very timely and responsive. I had a water leak and they were out immediately to take care of it, which was impressive to me.

I have used them in the past and their work was excellent and very satisfactory. I don't know how much it was because the alarm company paid them. I hired them but they agreed to deal and bill the alarm company. A B May Co was fine and there was absolutely no problem.
Description of Work: I used A B May Co four years ago when an alarm company had in properly wired the alarm through the flue that takes the carbon monoxide out of the house. They put a big hole at the silver dollar so A B came out, corrected it and made it work. They had to replace the piping in the basement that comes out for the exhaust out of the furnace and the attic where they also cut the lip.

The sales representative was pleasant and professional. He made me aware of his company's other services but didn't push them, staying focused on the work needing to be done. He checked and measured everything thoroughly, gave about four options and prices to choose from. The prices were in the middle of comparable estimates I got from other companies. Once I decided to go with them, they were able to schedule the service for the next day. The technician showed up and completed the work on time. He was professional, showed me what he was doing and made sure everything was to my satisfaction. The work was completed on time, at stated cost and by pleasant, professional staff.

We are selling our home and buyers requested we buy the AB MAY Home Warranty. On Friday May 13th our AC stopped working. I called them and the soonest they could come out was the next Wednesday May 18th. Technician found the variable speed motor and module needed to be replaced. He would have to order the part. Finally after 10 days from my first phone call my AC is fixed. However I think they charged me $1150 in addition to the so called $500 warranty. UPDATE: NOW WHEN AC NOT RUNNING CIRCUIT BOARD IS CLICKING AND LED LIGHTS FLASHING YELLOW/GREEN and the heater will not work. UPDATE #2 AB MAY sent over a TECH first thing in the morning and resolved all the HVAC issues within hours. They even had to order a new circuit board and replaced it for no addition charge. Although this experience did not go as well as either side would of like it to have gone, AB MAY stepped up and made it right! I am satisfied with the end results.
Description of Work: Variable speed motor and module were replaced. Now one day later still not fixed correctly!
