Called AB May about a refrigerator problem, I asked what it would cost to have someone come out to diagnose the problem and they said $89 I then asked if there was additional labor to install the parts and they said no just the cost of the parts. This is where the deception comes in, after checking the cost of the parts on line it turns out that AB May triples the cost of their parts and says there is no additional labor charge, I bought the parts on line and did the job my self at one third of their price. They came out in a timely manner, were very professional and diagnosed the problem correctly.

I purchased the house from an investment company who did less than spectacular work. Thank goodness for my AB May warranty that took care of problems left behind one of them being electrical issues. I had a couple of techs out to do electrical work and it was completed professionally and completely. The electrician placed after market breakers in the house that did not function properly as they didn't fit the breaker box. AB May was able to put correct breakers in so that I did not have to put a new box in. Thank you so much.

I have had numberous problems with my sump pump purchased through AB May. First it was installed incorrectly, and repaired poorly. After many attempts to fix the problem on 1/30/13 even though the professionalism was poor they were finally able to fix the problem(I HOPE). After they finished their was water and debris everywhere. They tried using a broom which only made the water mess worse. They removed the sump pump drainage pipe from the spicket outside and failed to reattach it before leaving. They had wet shoes and were tracking in my house and on my white carpet. They even commented on how poorly installed the sump pump was in the first after we were told by our AB May contact that they were sending their sump pump expert. And almost everytime they tried to charge me for the visits even though it was their failure in installing it correctly in the first place.

AB May tells you what's going on with your equipment up front. They give you options. They don't try and upsell you on products not needed. The guys that come out are very nice. They suggest energy saving tips, and money saving tips. They are sweet and knowledgeable. We've used them since 2010. At one point we had a problem with our air-conditioning unit a few days after they had been out to check it. The man who serviced it was so upset that there was an issue, he met the service person at our house, on his own time, and helped with the repair at no charge. AB May has been really good to us.

I called AB May out to snake my main as I have the home warranty through them. I was very impressed with the plumber they sent- Ricardo, he was very thorough and honest. I ended up calling the city as it was determined the problem was on their right of way. The city required that I have a plumber present to scope the sewer, I requested Ricardo and AB May was able to honor my request, they also adjusted the price due to a previous issue for which I was Thankful.

After our home warranty company refused to honor our claim (still arguing about that), their contractor quoted us a price of $1300 to replace our broken water heater. Not having that kind of cash and expecting better protection from Old Republic, we weighed installing the water heater ourselves or paying someone to do it. At a friend's suggestion we called AB May the next morning. They didn't even ask when we wanted the work done but just said, "we can call you today when we're about an hour away from your house if that's okay." The cost of the water heater and the installation was less than half of the first quote we received and $300 less than any other quote. Less than $600 and they covered all the fittings and hauling away the old water heater sounded good to us. James arrived a little after noon and the installation took about an hour. He left 30 minutes ago and the hot water heater is already performing. The basement was neat and clean when he left and I greatly appreciate him working on Christmas Eve so we don't have to take cold showers for two more days. I'm happy to say that the installation went well and I feel the price was a real bargain. It's always a good day when you get both at the same time. Hoping things will continue to go as well as they look so far. I would definitely call AB May again and I am considering cancelling my home warranty plan (we moved in two weeks ago) and purchasing one of theirs.

Travis called before he came up, diagnosed the problem and did a professional job of snaking out the sewer stack. He also looked at our sump pump and determined there were no problems with the unit, however, he did recommend we fix a missing connection outside.
Description of Work: There was a leak under the bathroom floor we couldn't pinpoint. Travis from A.B. May was dispatched the same day under our service plan and pinpointed the problem as a clogged sewer stack. He cleaned it out and went about 100 feet deeper into the line and removed some tree roots.

Overall went great. Electrician was very knowledgeable and thorough. Talked me through the diagnosis of the problem and found that another outlet had failed causing the second outlet to stop working. Inspected the electrical panel for other issues and found that the breaker for that circuit was undersized and replaced it. Also wanted a new outlet installed. They ran a new line and installed a new circuit. Very well done, very professional and polite. Highly recommended.

Very good experience. We had lots of hard water build up in our pipes, and being a new homeowner, I had no idea what was causing that. The AB May plumber came out and cleaned the faucets, but that didn't solve the problem. He looked into it more and found our hot water heater, which was 20 years old, was 2/3 full of sediment. He replaced it that day - I think he had to cancel another appt he was supposed to go to that afternoon. Very good experience. I would note that I was disappointed the hot water heater wasn't covered under our AB May home warranty. As far as I'm concerned, it wasn't in working order, and that should be something a warranty covers; it doesn't. That's not a complaint about the service at all, but the home warranty is one of their products, which I feel luke-warm about. I don't think I will renew the warranty, though I would use AB May to come out and do repairs when needed.

However, with regard to the warranty I understand your frustration and apologize for the confusion. In researching your specific job, it seems that the water heater replacement was done as elective work. We also installed a water pressure regulator, an expansion tank, as well as various other repairs. If the water heater was leaking, unsafe to operate or was not putting out the minimum amount of hot water allowable, then we would have replaced it under the contract. The unit that you had was quite old and had a pretty deep blanket of sediment. Both issues are water quality and efficiency problems which are not covered by home warranties. Again, I understand your frustration. It is unfortunate that you were unaware of the condition of the water heater prior to closing. We value you as a customer and are here to assist you. The actual cost for the water heater (50 gallon with 12 yr. warranty) I got fromHome Depot was $588. The initial on-site quote/estimate prior to installation was $290. We were fine with the quote and so let the technician start the installation. Somehow the technician kept on adding items to the scope during the installation process, and kept on hinting that these individual items would be challenging if we chose DIY. The whole process took less than one hour (from the time he walked in to he left). We ended up in paying about $300 more than his initial estimate. The issue we had with this service was that the technician exaggerated the items he added to his original scope. For example, he asked us whether we wanted him to replace the expansion tank or not, while pointing out that the pipe likely needed to be cut or twisted to fit the new tank into the original position. He made it sound really tough work. We trusted him and let him do it, and then saw him just put the new one there without doing any alteration of pipe work. That installation alone (not counting the tank) cost $50, and it was done in minutes.
Description of Work: We basically had AB May to replace our water heater with the new one (50 gallon with 12 yr. warranty) I purchased from Home Depot. The service included delivery on behalf of Home Depot, removal and disposal of the old one, and installation of the new one. The whole process took less than one hour.

Because this installation was a Home Depot job, the prices are set by Home Depot and we do not have the flexibility to change those prices. Our records indicate that in addition to the expansion tank the additional charges included a gas flex connector, a water shutoff valve, 3' of venting and labor for the additional work.

AC went out during night and the forecast was for 98 degrees the next day. I called AB May at 6:45AM and they first asked me if anyone in my family had a medical condition or was there a water leak. After I said no they said that they would have a repairman that afternoon. They called me back at 7:10AM and said they could have a man out by 8:30 AM. Gary arrived on time and completed the repair within a hour. He was very professional in appearance and conduct.

It is always easy to get an appointmet. Someone has been available within 24 hours. THe customer service representatives are very friendly. The servicemen themselves are promt and have identification. THey appear to know what they are doing. In each of my three repair calls the problem has been fixed in a timely manner and did not cost me more than my $60 service call fee. I will continue to renew my contract while I live in my home for piece of mind.
Description of Work: When I purchased my house, the owners provided an AB May Home Warrenty for the first year. After that I reneweded the warrenty myself for another year. During that time I had several service calls including seasonal maintence, a repair to my electric stove, an airconditioning call and a plumbing call. After my second year of the home warrenty I switched to the gold plan. I have a home with an older HVAC and if offers good piece of mind.

I'm not sure I can find the words to express my disappointment and frustration with AB May. We are getting estimates for a new HVAC system. I called several companies in the area to come by and give us estimates. I called AB May on Friday and they put me in touch with one of the technicians. He said he could come over and give and estimate but only if I was willing to commit to hiring them. I told them I was getting estimates so I wouldn't be able to make a decision until I get all the numbers. He then said he would come on Monday at 8 a.m. to look at our situation and run some numbers. Monday morning rolls around, the tech arrives and promptly tells me he would only have time to look at our system and get me an estimate if I was willing to commit to using AB May right then. I told him that I was getting estimates all morning and would make a decision in the afternoon. He said he had another house to get to and wouldn't have time to work up the estimate until the afternoon. I asked him, "If you have another appointment already scheduled that you have to get to, how would you have time to look at my system now if I was going to hire you? If you DO have time to look at my system now if I was willing to hire you, why couldn't you still look at my system right now like we discussed?" He claimed he misunderstood what I needed and said, "I don't get paid for the time I spend getting you and estimate."I tried to reassure him that we were going to make a decision that day, so I didn't understand what difference it made if he got me the estimate now or later, it would still be two hours of his time. Also, if he double booked his time, I didn't understand why I should be shortchanged in the process. He then said, "Who is 'WE" and is there someone else I should be talking to about this project?" At this point, I was getting angry. Even if AB May had the best prices and best service, I was no longer inclined to work with them. The attitude I got from the service tech really put a bad taste in my mouth. While a $7000=$10,000 project may be small potatoes to them (the tech mentioned that the project was small compared to $40,000 jobs), it is a big deal to me. I am so disappointed with my brief experience. I don't know what else to say.
Description of Work: I scheduled an estimate for an HVAC replacement and the meeting quickly went downhill. The estimate was not performed.

My air conditioner was not working correctly, so I called them out. There were $65 service charges to call them out. They came out, they looked at my air conditioner, told me it was fine and then left after charging me $75. I am glad I did not pay for this warranty. The technician was great. If he did not have to follow the rules of the warranty and actually would have secret my stuff, he was a good guy.

I am sorry to hear that you were less than satisfied with the service you received. In looking back on the service technician’s notes I see that when he arrived the a/c was working normally, however the filter was clogged. This was why the air flow felt weak and it was not cooling as well. You indicated that you had washed the condenser, and the service technician went ahead and gave it a second cleaning. He also went ahead and changed the filter, checked the temperatures, and pressures (all were within normal range). When he left, the unit was operating normally. With our warranty, any service call is $60. Had the service call required extensive repair and possible replacement of parts, it still would have only been $60. The additional $10 that you paid was for the requested upgrade to a higher efficiency pleated filter. Again, you are a valued customer and we appreciate your feedback. I usually have the furnace and A/C checked out before the season starts. He came out the first part of June to do the maintenance on the A/C and it was fine. It was great that he came out the next day.

The people in the service center at A B May were very nice. Calmed the panic that I was going through with leaks happening way too soon after purchasing my co-op. They helped my to keep good neighbor credits, a good thing when you are the new owner in a building. Waly did a fine job. He dealt with working in poor light and heat on his first visit. As well as climbing up 3 flights of stairs a few extra times than he would have liked on his second visit. He was a bit grumpy, but that was understandable under the conditions
Description of Work: First This review is related to two calls for leaks that started in the bathroom 1 week after I closed on my co-op. The first was thought to be just the toilet. Walt came, it was 100 degrees outside, I had no electric, so not a/c. He removed the toilet cleaned up the mess of what was left of the wax ring and capped off the compression valve.The following day I get a call from the lady downstairs and there is still a leak and a bucket has been placed under the bathroom sink. Another bad valve, I divert the leak into the bathtub, made another call. Walt came again, replaced all the valves to the sink and to the toilet, the tiolet was just to be safe in the future. Lucky for Walt for his second visit I had electric so he was able to work with light and a/c.
