The service went great. We have used AB May for the past four years and have always been very pleased. The people are very kind, and actually appear to enjoy their jobs. My only complaint would be that the annual price of the home plan increases every year, but almost everything does in today's society. It would be nice if they froze the price one year out of loyalty.

Instead of a ejected pump, a trench directly to the drain would have been cheaper and less work for my contractor.
Description of Work: We remodeled our basement and the plumbing had to be moved and updated. In hind sight I believe the work and cost could have been cut down if another route had been taken to the new bathroom.

Late Nov/Early Dec an ABMay plumber replaced my non-functioning garbage disposer ($60 ...I was under a New Home Buyer Warranty). About 2 wks passed before I used the new disposer ...I fed slices of broccoli stalks. While running water after stalks were fed, the opposite sink spurted water containing ground broccoli out the drain. Both sinks slowly drained, so I had sink access. The next plumber couldn't unclog the drain. The auger sounded as if it were hitting rock. He stated there're 3 levels of disposers & I had level 1. Level 3 liquifies, level 2 (can't recall exact words) ...and when he listed the foods you couldn't put in level 1 I said 'you've just about named every food known to man' to which he replied 'just about'. He informed me the clog was below (upper) floor level, about 8 ft down. I said, okay, that w/b in the basement. He also stated if it were necessary to dig below basement floor level, it would cost approx $500. I must give him credit as he tried more than several times to run his auger through, to no avail. The sink was worse, though; it no longer drained. A day or so later, water spurted between the tiles directly in front of the sink ...not forceful, a mild inch high geometric mini-fountain. I complained to the ABMay Plumbing Dept Dir. It didn't understand why I had to pay extra since it wasn't an error left behind by the house renovators (it's a flipped house, and the warranty doesn't honor repairs to shoddy workmanship by previous contractors. I found this out when I had to pay $300 to steady a wiggly toilet stool). I also said the $60 service fee should be applied to repair-work. Two plumbers came &, over a 2 day span, unclogged the drain. Evidently they removed the post walls that covered the pipe (& I thought it was a support post, lol), and jack-hammered a square (approx 18"x18") in the floor by the post . I signed an e-bill for $480, but the Dept head DID call me back to say he'd only charge $420 since I asked to have the fee applied to the cost. Approx 6 wks later while organizing some items I unpacked, I came across what I was looking for when I talked with the Plumbing Dept Head. I talked this time with a Customer Service Manager, explaining I now had it in black & white. My warranty packet reads "unclog drains to the property line" and "listed repairs to the amount of $2K. My basement is certainly not outside my property line, and I seriously doubt the jack-hammer they rented for a few hrs (& labor) exceeded $2K). WHY did I have to pay $420. The Customer Srvc Mgr said he'd elevate my issue to the Plumbing Dept Dir. & have him call me. I mentioned to the CSR Mgr that the other knew about the issue. The only other call I rcvd was from the CSR Mgr. This a week or so after I let the renewal date pass. I was offered a decent deal, which I took. ABMay is still $300 ahead. Yes, indeedy ....there's a reason I didn't check 'would you use this provider in the future'. Maybe for Warranty purposes, based on the frequency of needed srvc calls this term. No for general repairs ...to pricey for this kid. P.S. Most ABMay plumbers, HVAC servicemen & staff have provided solid "A" service.

The scheduler was able to get a plumber out to us within 24 hours of contacting the firm. This was fine because there was no emergency to the repair. We had a hose with spray valve we could close off so minimal water was leaking. They would have sent someone earlier had it been an emergency. (They did so when our furnace went out during the first cold snap of 2012 which was the first year we had a warranty with them.) We have a Gold Level Home Warranty so the service call was $60 as long it fits the parameters of the warranty. I was told the plumber would be there within a four to six hour period the next day. I received a call confirming he was on his way during that time frame, and he arrived within 10 minutes of the call. He was pleasant, professional and knew exactly what to do after I described the problem and he looked at the faucet. He simply had to tighten the packing nut. Within moments of his arrival the problem was resolved. Though it might sound expensive for such a simple problem, I reminded myself that you are paying for experience and expertize not just time and effort. We were pleased with his service and with AB May's response time. They even sent me an invoice for my records via email after I forgot to get one from the plumber before he left after I contact the firm via their website. Their website is very user-friendly. You can use it to schedule maintenance service if you desire. though I prefer calling and speaking with a scheduler. There is also a live chat feature. That's what I used to get the invoice sent to me. The representative for the live chat was professional, courteous, and followed through immediately, sending me the invoice within moments. We pay $45 a month for the warranty. The home came with a standard one-year warranty when it we bought it in 2012. We've renewed the warranty at a higher level (Gold) because we were pleased with the services provided during that first year (AC and furnace maintenance, an emergency night call when the furnace went out (before the free maintenance), and electrical work when light sockets failed to work). We have been impressed with the high quality of service provided thus far, though each technician who arrives, does at the end, suggest upgrades or improvements that could or should be made in the future. Fortunately, none of those have been urgent so we have rarely taken up those suggestions. However, depending upon the delivery of the suggestions, it can be interpreted to be, if not a hard sell, a strong sell. That rubs us the wrong way sometimes if we are stressed out, but we try to rationalize the practice as being a well-meant gesture by AB May employees who use their professional skills and experience to suggest what they consider to be the best long-term solution. When considered in that light, we are fine with it. Overall, we are very pleased with the firm and its employees at all levels, and would highly recommend the firm.

Furnace broke just after regular business hours (5pm) on Feb 15th- a Saturday. We called and were assured that they would have a technician call us that night. Waited two hours, at which point we were getting our daughter ready for bed and decided we'd just wait for the morning if they even called us back. Called Sunday morning and again were told they'd give us a call, two hours later hadn't heard so my husband called them and at that time we were told they wouldn't be able to get to us that day. No idea what the company is like other than this experience.

This review I am leaving is part my words and part the technicians words that he wrote on the invoice that was given to me that day via email. We had some work done on the house and afterward I noticed that the furnace was making a strange noise so I called AB May as they are always fast and honest. The technicians name was Nicholas Briones and proved to be a very competent and nice gentleman. Upon arrival to do the cleaning on furnace, he noticed that the noise I was hearing was the inducer motor barrings going out. He showed me and let me hear the motor then went to shut the unit off due to noise of unit and then went to turn back on and motor locked up and could not get it to turn by itself. So, basically, the motor froze up right when I was standing there. He called the office and reported the situation and we waited to see if they had a replacement for the unit in stock. Thank goodness they did. He went way above what I expected and personally went to pick up the motor from the shop that morning. He came back and installed a new inducer motor, changed the furnace filter, cleaned flame sensor rod and burners off, vacuumed out unit and cleaned off blower motor, checked temp rise normal, cleaned off unit and water heater all ops okay. Everything has hummed since and I am extremely pleased with the service this young man gave. A+++++

Response from A.B. May Heating, A/C, Plumbing & Electrical
I apologize for the price variance. There are often variables that can only be discovered after the technician has had the opportunity to physically observe the job. Usually, it is additional parts that were needed for the job that were unknown at the time of the initial phone call. Thank you so much for trusting AB May with your home service needs, we value you as a customer!

We have used them a lot in the last couple of years. We had a lot of issues with the pipes getting pinholes in them, and they would leak out and spray water. We have been very happy with them. We have what is called a Bronze agreement with them. It is just a maintenance service in the spring and the fall. The worst thing this last time was that the pipe was inside the wall. So, they had to start drilling holes into the wall to try and find where the pipe was leaking. They located the leak pretty quickly and they didn’t have to tear up too much. So, that was good. They are expensive but we felt like it is worth it. They have been great. The guys have always been very nice. We have got the agreement with them too, and we will definitely use them. In the long run, we think that it is worth the extra money to get quality service, so we are definitely going to stick with them.

Initial installation done in late Dec 2013. Due to low temps the Freon pressure/check had to be deferred. The PCV pipe for the in/out air was positioned poorly, obscuring the stairway light (I will relocate the light myself). The duct cleaning was done by a different crew. Unfortunately we were not pre-alerted that furniture had to be moved several feet away from the registers, which the cleaning crew worked around. Also the brand new duct work had to have access holes cut into it for the cleaning. When emailed that service needed to be scheduled, I called to schedule the finish-up work for the incomplete installation. Through a series of miscommunications over several days (I no longer work at a number they may have been calling), I eventually spoke to a manager and arranged for a service call. A team was on-site within 2 hours, and completed the pressure/check. We are now ready for summer to arrive.

I have had a heating and Air Conditioning maintenance contract with AB May for 25 years at homes in both Kansas and Missouri. This provider is dependable to meet appointments and is available 24 hours a day. They are very thorough in making some 40+ checks of the Heating system and the outdoor fan operation. They fully cleaned / inspected my permanent Trane Clean Effects whole house air filter system and replaced filter and put the humidifier into service for the winter months. They are always very courteous and offer very non-pressure advice when they observe issues that could lead to future problems. My annual contract runs $23 per month and cover both heating maintenance in fall and Air Conditioning maintenance in the spring to include cleaning / replacing filters.

He was knowledgeable, courteous, and great to work with. I don't know how much it cost because it was part of a bigger plan that we got when we purchased our house. We already knew them. It wasn't because of Angie's List that we hired them. I will probably not use them again.
