May A for Aleda and B for Bill and set out to offer Kansas City comfort and top quality service with a few employees and four trucks. Over the years we have expanded to offer Heating, Cooling, Plumbing, Electrical, and Appliance repair services. In the mid-1970’s we pioneered one of the first homeowner warranties in the industry. We purchased a furnace and heat pump from A.B. May in 2008. We purchased the warranty and have renewed it every year, keeping up with the semi-yearly inspections and paying the renewal fee each year. This year, the gas valve went out on our furnace, and they replaced it for free. It was easy to schedule the service call, and the technician was punctual, clean and courteous. He seemed quite knowledgeable . I am happy with A.B. May and will continue to use them.

Provider sent quotes with a bunch of options. Very slow to follow-up. I awarded the job to another cotractor who was significantly less expensive for the same units (exact model numbers). Folks from AB May seem knowledgeable. They were just slow to respond and priced out of the market.

I didn't mind paying the $89 service call, but for them to charge $179 to replace a $0.99 switch is absolutely highway robbery. I will never use A B May for anything again.

The service man showed up on time and quickly identified the problem as being a pipe hidden behind a duct in our storage room. He had the whole thing fixed in about an hour. We also used this company several other times that summer and we were always pleased with the result.

We've had good experience with them. We bought the heat pump 10 years ago and they've been very consistent. They've carried out periodic maintenance in the spring and in the fall and they stood by that contract.

We had our AC go down about 7:30 in the evening. We waited until the next morning to call for service. I was surprised they said they could come out so quick. The tech was out that morning. He determined that it was our fan capacitor that was bad. He tested several other components to be sure once the capacitor was replaced everything else was ok. He found our contactor was arcing and explained that while it was still working it could produce issues in the future. This being a heat pump I elected to replace the contactor rather than risk a failure this winter. Overall very good service. The parts seemed expensive but unless I wanted the tech to diagnose and me chase down and install less expensive parts it was not worth the effort.

After an inspection of the boiler, the serviceman, Richard, convinced me to order and install a part for the 5 year old boiler. When I called A B May requesting a technician I said I would wait to get their most experienced boiler technician. I assumed when Richard arrived that he was their most experienced technician. I had called AB May because the former owner of the house had purchased a home " warranty" with AB May. The serviceman advised me that this part would be $1,000 plus and would NOT be covered by the warranty. He said only parts inside the boiler were covered. I agreed to pay for the part and installation $1100, as I thought Richard was in fact their most experienced boiler technician. AB May was paid. The newly installed proved to not work. I was having the very same issues as before. The boiler supervisor, Pat, arrived after several weeks. The boiler supervisor said, and I quote, " This new part was incorrectly installed...it is at an incorrect height so the boiler will not work right and the new part is 'incompatible' with that $900 auto fill device that is here." Now it gets interesting! I asked Pat WHY would AB MAY install a $1,100 part that was 'incompatible' with another expensive part on the boiler and why would their most experienced technician install the new part at the WRONG height...which on boilers is critical?!!? Pat said that they just replaced the part..the way it was..and it would cost me a lot more if I wanted it redone correctly. ( REALLY!) He also said the piping needed to be redone and he sent me a bid for an additional$ 5,000 to make everything' correct'. The boiler is less than six years old... Hmmmmm. What does a 65 year old woman know about boilers? Well, now, quite a bit! FINALLY, at least two months later, A B May agreed to "re-install the part CORRECTLY at no additional cost. I asked, ...what about the incompatibility of the part? If it was incompatible and the wrong part is moved...how does that fix it? I requested them to NOT proceed until their supervisor agreed to replace the incompatible part with the correct part. Their supervisor, Jason, would not agree to replace the part and advised me he was sorry I didn't have the boiler inspected prior to purchase. (I DID have an inspection. Boiler passed. )He stated I was trying to have the boiler replaced at no cost. My response was the same.. No...if A B May orders and installs a $1,100 new part and it is installed incorrectly and...the new part ordered and installed is incompatible with the existing $900 automatic fill valve, A B May should replace the incompatible part with the compatible part. Jason refused. I then asked for a refund and I would find another company to do the repair. Jason said he would talk to someone and get back to me. I advised the waiting serviceman that he was to do no repairs. He got his tools and left. I am still waiting on the approval for a full refund. Jason was short, rude, arrogant, accusatory, hateful and ignorant of the facts. I have absolutely no faith in what anyone at that company says. If I wanted it "correctly installed" I would have to pay more. (I am not kidding!) IF, in addition, I wanted it compatible with the very expensive parts on my boiler...then I would have to pay even more. AND if I wanted the existing professionally installed piping redone which A B May's supervisor says is wrong but never once did the installing technician say the piping was incorrect, that would be $2900 more. I cannot make this up. It is just too unbelievable. Hope you have better luck.

They installed a new sump pump with battery backup. They are always prompt and professional. They are the best, period. If you are willing to pay for quality work AB May is the way to go. We have a gold service contract and use them for anything that comes up. We have had the contract for at least the past five years.

They're very professional, its fine. Their senior technicians, they're usually pretty good. I had an issue with them in winter, I called them and they came out and they said the heat took for bad, it took me $500 to replace, they replaced the heat strips and didn't fix the problem and I had to pay again for another service, called an electrician come out, he's one of their senior level guy and he said its not a heat strip problem so he fixed that. The tech that came out was nice and professional but if they have sent out one of their high professional level guys the first time, I think they would probably have solved the problem the first time instead of going back and forth.

My mother is 84 years of age, has a heart condition and her thermostat went out last week. She phoned, well let's just say it rhymes with "Buyer's" Furnace and they ended up telling her that it would be July 9th before she could be helped. It was 91 degrees out when I found out she was without air and immediately called AB May. I told them of her situation and within a few hours they were at her home and installing her thermostat. They informed me that when a call comes in for an elderly person that they are put at the top of the list which I cannot tell you how grateful I am of this policy. My mother informed me that the young gentleman named Ben Friend (employee #56) was so polite and professional and she was so appreciative of him. Ben also phoned me and explained the thermostat he wanted to install had a larger screen for her to see which I thought was very nice. She had never experienced AB May and they now have a new customer. We only use AB May! They have always done a superior job and have never disappointed us in their professionalism and prompt service. Thank you AB May and Ben for helping a 84 year old sweet mother cool off.
