While the problem was easy to diagnose, Joey had the part and completed the work in less than 30 minutes. He checked out the operation of the washer to make sure the spin cycle was operating correctly. We were the first up on his schedule and in the time frame we were scheduled. Very pleased with the timing of the repair. In addition we were able to get next day service. We have the Gold repair plan which has turned out to be a really good deal for us.

The technician (Troy J.) from A.B. May arrived on time and was extremely professional. He took the time to walk through my initial HVAC troubleshooting questions. Troy explained the work that he conducted and thoroughly checked the HVAC system for leaks. He was honest, confident, and humble in his approach to finding a solution to the problem with the HVAC system icing up and provided a proper diagnosis.
Description of Work: HVAC technician checked central AC system, added refrigerant, and found a potential leak in a condenser coil.

The service call went as well as possible considering that the problem (a freeze crack) was something not covered by our home warranty. I was not particularly surprised that a freeze crack occurred because our house sat vacant for about a year before we bought it. Brandon quickly diagnosed the issue, explained what our options were. The freeze crack itself is a simple fix, but it requires tearing the wall out in front of the pipe in order to fix it. I elected to forgo the repair for now until we have time to tear out and replace a portion of the wall. Brandon was very friendly and honest about all aspects of the repair. He offered to waive the service fee ($75) in exchange for upgrading to an AB May Gold plan. I gladly took the upgrade option, which should help us avoid unnecessary service calls in the future and also reduce the cost of calls by $15 per incident. I will be requesting Brandon specifically for any future plumbing repairs.
Description of Work: We called AB May the day after we moved into our house because we found in the morning that there was a large water leak in the shower. Brandon Miller was the technician who responded to our call, and he quickly diagnosed the problem as a freeze crack in the pipe leading up to the shower head.

The A.B. May technician, Jeremy, was as friendly and professional as I've ever experienced. He was also very, very knowledgeable. My main drain pipe from my house had backed up in the past and I needed it checked out and potentially cleaned. Jeremy inspected the drain and, after giving me a lesson on how to tell if a pipe is properly draining to the outside, he told me that at this time it's not necessary to clear out the drain. Since he performed no "actual work" he said I would not be charged. I consider his time and review of the problem to constitute work on his part, so I am very grateful that the bill (which he emailed to me immediately) read $0.00. I will absolutely be calling A.B. May again next time I am in need.

On a rental property I don't want to be losing any money, so this a great plan to cover any major issues that may arise, especially since the units are older. The technician was friendly, professional, and gave me all the information I needed to know about how the units are running. I have the Gold Plan for our own home which we opted to cover HVAC, appliances, plumbing, and also our humidifier. Both plans include a fall and spring evaluation of your heating and cooling units (respectively). They came recommended from several friends and family who use the AB May Home Warranty plans.
Description of Work: Needed a HVAC service on a rental condo I own that hadn't been serviced for about 3 years. He made sure everything was running correctly and signed me up for a Silver Plan that will cover any issues with the Heating or AC units.

Three years ago they installed a new ball valve on top of the line coming out of my hot water heater as part of my home warranty service call. Today it broke. While I understand parts don't last forever, a three year life span is pitiful. I called my plumber, he installed a new valve for an extra $80.

Our records indicate the last time we were at the customer’s home was in November of 2012 to service a toilet. Prior to that, we replaced a pressure reducing valve for $60 in August of 2012. We would love the opportunity to discuss his concerns further and to assist him in contacting the manufacturer of the defective ball valve.

Our new stove could not be installed because the builder of the house had not installed a proper electrical socket when the house was build about 30 years ago. the previous stove's wires had been spliced to wires coming out of the wall. Also, the breaker box circuit was the wrong one for this appliance and the type of current. We did not know this until the AB May electrician pointed this out. Moreover, the existing wiring was a fire hazard. There were scorch marks in the metal box where the wires had been spliced. The AB May electrician corrected all of these problems at a reasonable cost.

Terrible non service on their service plan. Furnace has been out for four days. Gentlemen showed up on Saturday and couldn't resolve it and needed another part. I would have expected that a service person would show up with the part in hand at least by Monday morning. Not so. Part was place on order and my service call was put back in the QUEUE. Well about 7PM another technician shows up and installs the part only to find out another part had potentially failed and needed to be ordered. That pushes to Tuesday. Well AB May has a part delivery service separate from the technicians and their equipment truck I was again placed in the queue and told they have several calls. The parts delivery person never showed however an AB Sales person did proactively schedule a specific time to quote me a new HVAC system. I wish they were as proactive on getting heat returned as they were on the service call. There was essentially no communication on status of parts or personnel unless I imitated the conversation. We're now on Wednesday. A part did arrive at my home and a technician arrived shortly after I alerted AB May of the delivery. Hopefully this will solve the problem. AB May HAD been servicing my home for several years so the system should have been well understood since they have the documentation. I would have thought after the first sign of trouble that all suspected parts would have been made available for what is considered an emergency case (Sunday temp was down to -4) versus the trial and error ordering of parts. I don't expect my relationship with AB May to continue after this is resolved. Buyer be ware. Reputation isn't everything.

There are times when we fall short of meeting our customer’s expectations, but we will always do what needs to be done to resolve the issue and to make our customer happy. Serving others, overcoming obstacles and earning our customer’s trust are part of our core values at AB May. Our techs serviced the unit from 10:45pm Saturday until 2:00am Sunday morning trying very hard to get the furnace operating. Unfortunately, the distributor in Kansas City that carried that part does not offer emergency service, so we had to wait until Monday to order that part from them. We returned Monday evening to install the new part and after the installation of that part, another unforeseen failure in the system occurred. We sent the second part out with a senior technician to complete the repair. We apologize that it took several trips to complete the service and we apologize for the inconvenience and frustration. We were able to get your system running and your home warm; however, we are sorry that we still fell short of meeting your expectations. We hope to have the opportunity to earn your trust back. We truly value you as a customer.

When we bought this house the inspection said we needed to have the Air Conditioner replaced and A B May insisted they needed to replace the whole system or it would cost more. We later found out that was not correct and we spent thousands more than we needed to because we trusted them. We hired them to remodel the downstairs so it would look like part of the house. They said they would take the vents out of the basement so it would look like a room. After we hired them and started the work they told us they couldn’t do what we had planned and needed to put the vents back in. In my opinion they did a lot of damages to the house. They took out clauses they put in. They did very very unattractive work. They left a lot of damages behind that we had to try to fix. They didn’t care about the issues that were because of their work. They have caused at least $5,000 worth of damages because they were unorganized and didn't really have a plan. We had an agreement that I was to be the head of the job and not to go to my husband because he was working. I gave one of the workers an answer that he didn’t like so he went behind my back and called my husband who they were told not to contact for anything and asked and my husband who didn’t know what was going on resulting in him ripping out walls that I told him not to. My husband didn’t approve of the work to be done because I was supposed to be the contact for this job and because he didn’t know what was going on. After they had started the work and ripped out walls and vents they said they couldn't do what we had planned and needed to put the vents back in. The owner’s son had come over and said because of how unhappy we were with how the job went and that he would put the humidifier in for $1500. When the worker came to give us the contract he. We made a verbal agreement that they refused to honor. We have 3 humidifiers running right now and the floors are cracking and a lot of antiques are ruined because they didn’t put in a humidifier that most homes come with. In my opinion if I would have known the extent to the work before they started we never would have done it.
Description of Work: AB May was hired to do a job they said would take 3 days. The job took more than 3 weeks with at least a few men in the house. It was extremely stressful and a lot of damages were incurred because they told us they had everything figured out and we believed them. If we had known what we were getting into we wouldn’t have done the job. We hired them to replace our Air Conditioner and remodel the basement.

I had a clogged kitchen drain. I called and spoke with Renee. I specifically asked for an approximate estimate as kitchen drain un- clogging is a pretty common thing and other companies have no problem giving an approximate estimate for it. I was told by Renee that she did not have that information but that the service fee would be waived if I agreed to the work and she happened to put me in touch with a coupon offered on the website. I decided to schedule the service in the hopes that the cost would be similar to the costs posted in reviews on Angie's list for this specific company for this specific service, around $70-$80 for a kitchen drain un-clogging and the fact that this is a well known company that's been in business for many years. The technician was very friendly and did a good job, however when I was informed the cost would be $213, I was floored to say the least. We live in an older home and this isn't the first time we've had to have a drain un-clogged, but I have never paid that much for this type of service before. And compared to other companies, the cost was significantly more. The technician acknowledged that their fees recently increased. That is a 150% mark up from what other reviews posted. The Technician said I could sign up for a service agreement which would save me money upfront but then cost me a monthly fee +service fee for each future service, while that would cover other appliances and future drain cleaning (for a service fee), in the long run would cost me more as most of our appliances are under 7yrs old and I usually only have to call for a drain cleaning every 3-4 yrs. With water running and my time limited, I agreed to the service but I will not be using this company again. I'm not one to write reviews if ever, but this really has me fuming.

We sincerely apologize for the inconvenience and frustration that resulted from the service you received from us. Our policy is to always offer a flat rate price prior to any service performed. I had 2 different issues - a leaking pipe and a toilet that wasn't flushing efficiently (3 flushes to move a Kleenex). The plumber determined the leaking pipe was from work recently completed from a bathroom renovation, so I had original contractor return to make the repair. However, the toilet was old and needed to be reset (it actually had a slight wobble when you sat on it) so A.B. May completed that job. We decided it would be better to just replace it and not have to worry about any other issues from it. The unit was in stock, so Andrew left to pick it up and returned shortly to install the same day. He was very courteous, wore shoe covers the entire time he was inside, and left the bathroom cleaner than when he arrived! He even caulked around the toilet for a nice finish, making cleaning much easier. Experiences with other plumbers here in KC and in other cities - no one has ever done caulking for me and I've always had to clean finger/handprints from doors/light switches/etc. after they left. Very pleased with service and job performed.

***Update*** fair is fair and I would like to update my experience The oven was still not working after the first visit, I called them again and the promptly rescheduled for a technician to come and check what was going on. When the technician showed up, he was very friendly and he immediately found the possible cause. I waiting for the part to arrive and for them to have it replaced. I had two technicians that were going to come out the same day, one for an appliance and an electrician. When I scheduled them, we agreed to be $89.99 for both services, not for each. The appliance technician came first and was not very friendly he just look at the appliance and said that he calibrated it. When he finished, he immediately told me that it was $89.00, I mentioned that I was waiting for the electrician, he said that they were separate costs. When I called their offices, I explained this and the person on the phone said that it was for each, I mentioned that I would never would have agreed to pay $178.00, the person said "I'm sorry you missed understand us" I said "I would never had agreed to this if it was going to be this high" the person on the phone said I'm sorry you missed understand us" and I said "YOU misunderstood me" I would NEVER use them again! Lesson learned.

We apologize for the miscommunication. There is always a service fee charged for each service that is requested. If A.B. May did not have electrical department, the customer would have had to call another company to diagnose the electrical issue and that company would have charged a service fee as well. We did reach out to the customer to waive the fee to come out for her electrical repairs and the only thing they would be responsible for would be the repairs. Again, we do apologize for the miscommunication.
