About us

Aleda and Bill Posladek are the founders of A.B. May. They purchased May Furnace Company in 1959. They renamed it A.B. May A for Aleda and B for Bill and set out to offer Kansas City comfort and top quality service with a few employees and four trucks. Over the years we have expanded to offer Heating, Cooling, Plumbing, Electrical, and Appliance repair services. In the mid-1970’s we pioneered one of the first homeowner warranties in the industry. Today, we give thousands of Kansas City homeowners a plan for home repairs through our Home Warranties for home buyers and our Gold, Silver, Bronze, and Value service plans. In the nearly 60 years since our business began, we have grown to employ more than 275 people and taken care of thousands of home repair needs for our friends and neighbors that call Kansas City home. Overall, the service was good but varied by technician, except for toilet repair. The toilet repair was actually not at all satisfactory. The tech told me that they only replace the part that is not working instead of completing the entire project. I did like that they came out and checked the furnace and A/C for free, so they knew and I knew it was working properly before the season began. The techs often try to get people to replace something that is old before it is worn out. They often get people to replace the circuit breaker or something like that.

The plumber arrived on time and seemed professional. The toilet drain was snaked and I was told that it would probably fix the problem in the basement. Everytime I turned around, the plumber tried to up sell me on another item. This included using a faulty water gauge to say that I needed a water pressure regulator (I didn't buy it). The water issue was not resolved in the basement and I called another resource to have it fixed the next day.

Buyer beware when dealing with this company. I found I couldn't believe anything they told me. For starters, the woman in the office told me they had a 10% stimulus sale going on when she called to see if I was interested in a new furnace. (I had got an estimate a couple months prior) when the salesman got to my house the 10% shrunk to 5%, he said that he had already figured in 5% on the first estimate. I bought a new furnace and air only to find they sold me an air-conditioner that will be obsolete at the end of the year. The salesman told me I had a ten year warranty and this shouldn't matter. Later I find out I must buy their maintenance agreement in order for the warranty to be in effect. Another thing the salesman chose not to mention. I bought my furnace on a six months same as cash plan, the salesman told me I could put the purchase on my credit card at the end of the six months. I now find out this isn't true either. The senior service tech came out to check out my unit. I told him I was very unhappy with being sold something that is going to be obsolete. He told me a sales manager would call me. This didn't happen either. The installers did an excellent job and were very courteous but I would never recommend this company to anyone as you can't believe anything they tell you.

I've been using them on and off for several years. They are fantastic. They screen their technicians very well. It doesn't matter what the nature of service is that I need, they will send somebody out that I will feel comfortable with in my home. They are pretty competent and qualified. They have A B May standard practices behind them. They have never tried to talk me into something that I didn't need. I've learned a lot from the technicians that have come out. I feel that they are honest. It seems like an expensive investment, but it is probably worth it in the long run. The service call is only $60 with my service plan. I have called them in the morning and they have had someone out within an hour.

Technician was personable and very knowledgeable. He completed a detailed inspection of our furnace and humidifier and found everything in order. When asked he gave detailed information on upgrading our system to a more energy efficient model, especially our air conditioner. We learned that A. B. May technicians are trained to service all major brands.

They came out to look at property. Ended up giving a high bid for HVAC (in comparison to 4 other companies, they were the highest) and never gave me a bid for Electrical or HVAC. I called several times and asked for them to send me the bid, they never did.

We have been with AB May for over 10 years. They performed our fall maintenance and found a need to replace various parts. They said they could "band aid" the system or provide a replacement system with considerable savings. They provided an estimate including installation and sales tax etc. We traded up to a heat pump system. They performed the work the same week we agreed to the plan. There was no change in the cost even though they had to do some alterations. No matter what work they have done for us over the years they are always prompt and reliable.

IT WENT OK. THEY CLEAN UP WELL AFTER THEY ARE DONE DOING THE WORK. THEY PUT ON LITTLE BOOTIES BEFORE THEY COME IN MY HOME. THEY GO OVER A CHECK LIST THAT THE CHECKED.

I called A.B. May on the Friday before Memorial Day and told them we had just started our A/C and noticed one of the compressors seemed to be having trouble starting. They asked when we would want someone to come out. I asked if they could come out that day and they said YES! The service tech was at my house in about 2 hours, checked the unit, ensured it was working properly and left. The professionalism of the tech and the customer service attitude of the answering rep were fantastic!
