I purchased a custom computer from Hometech on 20 Aug. Ben said he would transfer my documents, music and pictures from my old computer to the new one and set up the new one in my house for $593.04 I agreed and left my old computer with him to transfer the old items as agreed. That evening he brought the new computer to my house and set it up. About two days later I discovered that my pictures had not been transferred to the new computer. I contacted Ben and that evening he came to my house and said he would take the old hard drive out of my old computer and put it in the new computer so I would have my old pictures, which he did. About two days later, when I discovered that I could not get a disc to work I called Ben and then took the computer to him as he said maybe he forgot to "plug it back in" when he put in the old hard drive. He ended up replacing the disc drive with a new one. The disc drive then worked. I took the computer home and used it that night. When I finished I used "sleep" . The next morning I could not get to start up. No matter what I did, nothing happened. I then took the computer back to Ben and he stated the worst thing I could have done was to use "sleep" He told me some technical reason as to what had probably happened and indicated it was a major problem. I told Ben I just wanted to return the computer and get my money back. He stated they had a policy to not do refunds but he would replace it with another computer. The next day, 27 Aug, I called Ben to see when the new computer would be ready and he stated he was putting one together but he was still getting parts together and he would probably have it in a day or two. That afternoon I went in to Hometech and talked to Scott Ferris (owner) and told him about my experience and said I wanted to return the computer and get my money back. He stated they normally did not do refunds but in this case he would return my money. He said they would put my old hard drive back in my old computer. A few days later Ben said they had decided to charge me a total of $200.00 for the two trips to my house and a restock fee. They later refunded $393.04 to me.

Response from HomeTech Computers
Our shop did a lot of work for this gentlemen, including a few home visits. Unfortunately we cannot sit by and show someone how to use a new computer and a new version of windows 24/7. We should have left a copy of windows for dummies (although the built in help files are pretty good). We wish it would have gone better for this customer, but you cant make everyone happy. At the end of the day we were fair in charging for the hours of outside (and out of town) service that we did for him, which is not generally included in a as is cash sale. The computer was sold to another customer two days later and they are pleased with our service and the computer works fine.

Took my desktop infor diagnosis on a Thursday. Couldn't get it to come on ... Thank you Empire Electric :). Was tole they woul call with quote on fixing it when they found the problem. Called them Friday after not hearing from them. Was told that they didn't check it yet because they were very busy with the opening of their new store in Springfield. Then apologized over and over. The repairman told me he would get right on it and call me back. He did just that. Called me back with the good news and he could have it finished before they closed. He called shortly after saying it was ready. Picked it right up and now had it for the weekend. Good price and good service. Much better than Geeks.
Description of Work: Replaced power supply on desktop computer

My husband called on Friday morning on Memorial Day weekend. Mr. Phelps said he would be out to the house about 2:30pm. He called later and said that he had to stay in the office and would come after he closed at 6 pm so "we would't be hanging all weekend." Mr. Phelps arrived at 6:15 pm and worked until 9 pm. His charges were the most reasonable that we have experienced in Joplin. He was professional, and was knowledgeable. We will call Hometech Computers again.

They have been really good to me. They even offered to swap out the card in my home. As far as computers go I got a good deal. If everything works out and they do right by me I plan on getting a computer for my brother.
Description of Work: I was getting a new system because my laptop fried and HomeTech Computers already had something built that met my specifications. It just didn't have the right video card in it. They said they would let me take it out of the store for $20 on the promise that I would pay a $1,000 in a few days, since I was getting a check from my insurance company. They came over and set it up and everything. They said they would even swap out the video card and take care of me when I noticed it was the wrong one.
