All I can say about this service is that their technicians shocked me with their knowledge base, efficiency, and thoughtfulness in execution. I've never worked with a better contractor. Also, they came on the day we booked. That is stunning.

The staff that came and removed our exisitng fireplaces were on time and punctual. The entire crew were courteous and paid great attention to detail. Ordering our new fireplace did not go as smoothly, after two trips to the shop to pick out the new model we decided on what we wanted. The unit was supposed to be ordered so we scheduled, plumbers, electricians and cabinet makers alll around the date they provided for delivery. The day after it was supposed to be installed we were told that the unit had not been ordered (after we had called the week prior to confirm the delivery date). So after another week waiting the unit was finally delivered after we lost our place in line with the cabinet makers. Again the installers were top notch, they went well above the call of duty to ensure everything went well. Knowing that I am particular about appearances they did an awesome job ensureing the best possible installation. They even custom made a new chimney top so the new flue would be centered in the exisitng chimney.
Description of Work: Removed two existing fireplaces. Imstalled one new fireplace.

Description of Work: After the run around from the other company in town, we pretty much had to go with them. The original estimate was increased due to the poor chimney construction from the builder in the 80's and new building codes. Not ACTs fault but still not fun to hear. Work was done in 1-2 days, on time and very polite. Everything was done to code and done to insure safety.

It is a complicated repair and they have to do it in several parts. We are still waiting on the weather to cooperate. They need to waterproof the chimney. The $100 is for the chimney sweep service. They have been busy and what stands out is that it took a long time to get service but they do a good job when they do come. They have been kind of swamped this past year.
Description of Work: They did some repairs to the chimney. They have done chimney cleaning too.

The owner of the company came, inspected, told us we did not need any repairs, and charged only half of what we were quoted. He fairly did not make the whole charge because he was here a short time and did not have to climb up on the roof to further inspect. We did not ask for a price reduction; it was offered. I hired this company based on Angies List favorable reviews.
Description of Work: After a chimney fire, we hired Advanced Chimney Techniques to do a thorough inspection to determine if cleaning was needed before we tried to use the fireplace again.

We asked for a quote and we were given what we considered a reasonable estimate and since it didn't take as long as estimated, the bill was changed to reflect this, so we were charged less than the estimate. The workmen were very professional, tidy and explained how to use the controls on the log inset. We couldn't ask for a better experience and highly recommend them.
Description of Work: We originally hired them to sweep our chimney in October for our newly purchased home. They checked the chimney and found there was no soot , so they only charged a very nominal service fee. (The previous owner said that they hardly used the fireplace.) We had a wood burning fireplace with a gas starter, so gas was already available to the fireplace. We wanted to covert the fireplace to gas logs. The service was for the conversion from wood to gas. (This price DID NOT include the cost of the gas burner/log insert, ONLY to remove the gas starter and install the log set.) We also knew that the building requirements had changed since the house was built and we should have an attic insulation shield around the metal chimney in the attic. Their contract was to install this as well.

Description of Work: I had started a fire in my wood stove and had no flow of air through the stove, the fire smoldered and no smoke came from the chimney. I called on Friday 1/4/13 morning and someone was able to come out about 12 noon that same day. Service was professional and knowledgeable. Courteous staff, they wore shoe covers in my home, cleaned up the mess as they went, talked to me, explaining what the problem was, fixed the problem, started a fire to make sure it was fixed, then one of the fellows actually offered to split me some kindling.

The inspection had to be done in order to meet buyer's demands. In our new home, the previous owners also used them when our Home Inspection found some damper issues, and we made the sellers fix it. So, if you have a chimney issue, I wouldn't hesitate to use their services, but if repair work has to be done, I would get bids.
Description of Work: Was selling our Condo, and buyer wanted chimney inspected, cleaned, repaired if needed. Based on an "inspection report" it was very thorough. Made some assumptions about the 10 unitsand their fireplaces in our condo complex that seemed unfounded and slightly presumptuous, but we are talking fire-safety, after all. Was very honest about the cleaning of the chimney area - as there was very little soot buildup, they didn't need to clean it. So we weren't charged for something that we didn't need...or they didn't do something that didn't need to be done. Also offered a $10 off coupon. They have a great monopoly on the market for the area. They need to be good.

The buyer already had an estimate with Advanced Chimney Techniques, so all I had to do was call to set up the work date and pay for it. But Advanced Chimney Techniques did not make that easy. They were extremely frustrating. Every time I called, the receptionist/dispatcher/phone-answerer acted like they'd never handled a phone call, and were honestly astonished that someone needed work done. At one point, I asked her a question about accessing the house during the work, and she adamantly insisted that the workers would not need access to the house. I finally got her to agree that she would ask the workers and call me back the next day. She didn't call back, ever, and of course the workers needed access to the house on the workday. That was really weird. Even though I'd been very clear that I, the seller, was ordering the work, they sent emails to the buyer of the house before the workday. When told that this was incorrect, they did not bother to make sure the emails reached me. The day before the work, I called to confirm what I thought was the start time of 8:00am. Well, it turns out that they don't tell you the start time. The repairman would figure out his day's schedule and call me the morning of with a time. He would call me by 7:30am, I was promised. Of course he didn't call me by 7:30am, but I did call him at 8:00am because I needed to know when to expect him since the estimate was for 3 hours of work, which is not a small part of the day. The repairman told me that he could come by around 3:00pm, and that it wouldn't take a full three hours. He'd looked at the estimate, he told me, and it wouldn't take that long- maybe half that time. I was able to extract a promise that he would call me on his way from his last job, which was thankfully in Fulton so I had some time to prepare. He did call. I have to give him that. He called, but it was almost an hour early and then, of course, the job took every bit of 3 hours so it was long past 5:30pm that I was sitting there in a lawn chair in an empty house, waiting for them to finish up. I was not able to inspect the work since they completed most of it in the attic and on the roof just two days before closing, but the buyers were satisfied with it on final walkthrough. I am sure the chimney is safe to use. But I would not hire these guys again, because I felt that their whole operation was unprofessional and lacking in much consideration for their clients, not to mention the broken promises about callbacks.
Description of Work: As part of closing, I had to do some work on the chimney of my house, and the buyer specifically requested Advanced Chimney Techniques. The work included bringing the chimney up to code, building a firestop/attic insulation shield, installation of a storm collar, and chimney cleaning.

My Dos and Donts....do research on the Internet re: relining and inserts etc........there are plenty of options out there that don't require "an expert" to do.
Description of Work: Company did not get my appointment date correct and it had to be rescheduled. I was seeking to reline a chimney in my old 1935 home. The chimney had never been lined and was essentially decorative.Owner arrived and was a very nice gentlemen, however it was readily apparent that he was steering me towards an expensive relining job....ranging from $1000-$1500. He charged me $50 for the estimate, when all he did was shine a flashlight into the fireplace and show me a book of "options" for brick relining jobs. Later, after doing more research and talking to home inspectors that are friends, it became apparent that there were PLENTY of other relining options, the majoritiy of which, were far less expensive.

It was a good experience. He got here on time and seemed knowledgeable. They just are too high priced.
Description of Work: They came to inspect the flue and weer very efficient and knowledgeable. But they wanted to take the tiles out of our flue/chimney and then put a liner in, which is fine, but they estimated a cost of $1,500 to $2,500. Way too high. We made phone calls to talk with some chimney places and priced liners and will be doing the work on our own for only about $700.00!

Working with this company was frustrating from start to finish. My gas fireplace had stopped working and thus I made this appointment. I had a late afternoon appointment, but got several phone calls from the technician (who I also believe is the owner) regarding why he was late. Initially he would be one hour late, then two, and eventually he showed up much later (at least 2-3 hours). The gentelman was very personable and friendly. He however, appeared to have little knowledge of gas fireplaces and had me download the fireplace manual from the internet. He was honest about his lack of expertise in this area, however it made me wonder why he would book the appointment if it was outside of his knowledge base. He cleaned the logs off and got the fireplace working that evening, Because he was so late he told me he would only charge me half price for the appointment (45.00). The next morning the fireplace no longer would ignite. I called the company and the gentleman said that he would need to order a part. After missing a scheduled appointment and cancelling another he came out to the house to find the part he would need to order. Upon leaving he said he would order the needed part and contact me when the part was in. I never heard back from the company and when I called to inquire about the part I was told my call would be returned. I do not hold hard feelings for the $45.00. I do feel that the gentleman tried his best to fix the fireplace. I was extremely frustrated at the multiple scheduling errors, difficulty getting answers from the company, and ultimately the fact that I was told a part would be ordered and then never received any further contact. The whole business process was extremely disorganized. I was without a working fireplace for approximately a year. In winter of 2011 I had a technician from a different company out to fix my furnace. He said he would look at my fireplace while he was there and was able to quickly fix the problem in 5 minutes and the fireplace has worked great ever since.
Description of Work: I made an appointment to have my gas fireplace repaired. The technician came to my home twice before disappearing. The problem was never fixed.
