I called Art to ask about hiring him to set a damaged piano on it's side so I could have the furniture repaired, then having it moved again to the location we'd like it to be in the house. I asked his opinion on what to do, he was super honest and shot me straight saying that the kind of damage I described was likely due to moisture damage and that the piano was on its last leg. He gently suggested that I not sink any more money into the piano than I already had unless it was sentimental to me. It is not, and so I appreciated how ethical he was in recommending a reasonable course of action rather than waste my time or money trying to resuscitate a lost cause. I will absolutely call him when I'm ready to buy another piano for guidance, and will hire him to move it.
Description of Work: I had a phone consultation with Art about moving a damaged piano. Though he didn't perform any services, he gave me his honest opinion on how to proceed and I'm very impresed with his honesty.

Everything went well considering wet soil conditions.
Description of Work: Piano Broker's showed up on time. They were fast and efficient in determining how to perform the piano movement and had it loaded into their trailer within about 15 minutes. It was moved to the destination and Piano Broker's was flexible in solving an issue of very wet soft soil near the door where the piano needed to be moved into.

Art was professional, straightforward and efficient. He called the night before the move to confirm everything was a go. Once onsite, he and his crew worked very well together as a team, communicating clearly and navigating a tricky transition from the yard to my front steps. It couldn't have been a smoother process. If anyone needs a piano moved in the KC metro, he's your man!

Mr. At Lickey scheduled a date that was convenient for me. Before his arrival, he called to confirm that arriving early would be acceptable, and it was. Mr. Art and his crew were polite, careful and professional. The piano was taken out the front door and down the step and onto the truck safely. For delivery, they brought the piano up several steps and into its new location. Care was taken not to scar the new hardwood floors. The piano was tested and they made sure I was content before leaving.

Everything was perfect! I found Kansas City Piano Brokers here on Angie's list and I'm so glad I did. Before we thought to look for "piano movers" we contacted tradiional movers who were more expensive and would have no doubt been less knowledgeable about pianos. So glad we did not trust something so intricate to anyone else. As we were moving the piano between friends who had extremely busy schedules during the few weeks preceding the move, I was so grateful for Art's patience and professionalism while we tried to co-ordinate calendars. He and his staff were a dream. I can not recommend them more highly! Wonderful person, wonderful company!

I was very encouraged by reading the Angie's list review about this mover and hired them based on that. When they gave me the original quote it was $375.00. When I called back a few days later to schedule it, the price had gone up to $425. I accepted this because of the recommendations and he said he had underestimated the time it would take. (less than 40 minutes each time.) To me, having my very precious and valuable piano in good hands was worth it. The first move out of the house seemed to go well. They were on time and efficient. It was obvious they had experience. He said his uncle used to own Rose Piano movers long ago. When we got it into storage, I assumed that it was okay but there was little light and I did not inspect it at the time. The move back to the house was not good and there was damage both to the house and the piano. This time one of his regular crew was not available so he brought a guy who had never moved a piano, which they openly admitted. I expressed concern and confirmed that he was fully insured. This is an irreplaceable piano. Throughout this move there were multiple problems, parts of the piano were dropped both at the storage unit and on my newly finished hardwood floors. The guy who had never moved a piano kept letting go of the piano or the cart at wrong times, didn't listen well to instruction, causing the piano to be very unstable at times. When they were bringing the cart through the front door, he had a cigarette in one hand and let go of the cart to put it out. This resulted in me grabbing the piano to stabilize it and the cart getting hung up on the threshold, leaving the threshold permanently damaged. To fix the threshold, I would have to remove the entire front door unit. After dropping more items, wiping mud all over my front porch, having picked up mud on his shoes when putting out his cigarette and dropping it on my front lawn, the piano was back together with a series of fresh scratches and gouges in the ribbon mahogany finish. When I pointed this out, rather than accepting responsibility for it, they just kept repeating that they never damage anything and were certain that they didn't do it or that the finish on my piano must just be really soft. The only thing they would do was to suggest that I go purchase one of those scratch cover pens and try that. The piano is damaged, my house is damaged and they walk away with $425 in cash. What an experience. I am extremely disappointed with this service and now wonder how much stock to put in these reviews. Piano owners BEWARE. This is a completely cash, no receipt, no written contract or record transaction. I am guessing that he is not really insured. It would be worth checking before putting your piano at risk. As he left he mentioned that he was available to move my piano to another state. I will be hiring a bonafide company, with proof of insurance and pay any upcharge for full replacement coverage. UPDATE: Having just read your response and never having actually heard back from you, I am amazed that you would put such a snarky response here for all to see. What you suggested is that I go get a stain marker to cover the gouges you put in the piano. They are gouges, not scratches. The piano was not always covered with blankets and I was standing there as a live witness when your people actually missed getting the piano on the cart and it slipped - all without the protection of blankets. At the time, you simply denied any responsibility. Now that your lack of professionalism and responsibility is exposed you want to have it repaired? Yes, the people who moved the other items did break my table. HERE IS THE HUGE DIFFERENCE. THEY TOOK RESPOSIBILITY - totally professional and pleasant. They took the table immediately and had it repaired beautifully. They were totally delightful about it. I have since hired them to move me, my sister and my mother. They did a beautiful job - all without incident, professional, delightful. GREAT NEWS...they move pianos. Please see my review of NL Wilson movers who I can't recommend highly enough. Yes, I did have a major flood in my house due to an incompetent contractor. Thankfully, my insurance company is dealing with that. If that had not happened, I would never have met you. How unfortunate on both fronts. BUYER BEWARE: This contractor provides absolutely no paperwork. I had to create a receipt myself. I also paid more than originally quoted, again due to no paper trail. When it came to taking money - no problem, responsibility - problem. Professionalism - see for yourself. Apparently, blaming things that have no relationship to the issue is the method to deal with this. I recommend Wilson movers - written quote - on time - qualified, trained, delightful people - responsible management - great service.

Response from Kansas City Piano Brokers
It seem Strange to me that she will get full replacement insurance for her irreplaceable piano . her statement in the review not mine. I don't know how you do that. I am very sorry she is unhappy and I will pay for a touch up man to come out and do what i suggested is retouching it with a stain marker. I do not accept responsibility for all the thing she has mentioned. The piano never touched anything anywhere at any time as it was completely covered with furniture pads and they were taped in place. The folks before me broke her table. The guy before that installed a water purification system and that broke and pumped 22,000 gallons of water through her house. she is on a bad streak of hiring incompetent people.

We contacted them and received an estimate, then called back and scheduled the move on Thursday and had the piano moved the very next day.
Description of Work: The people commented on how they liked how they loaded the piano at the original destination in preparation to bringing it to my house. She had piano moved from another house that same day and she said she wished she had known about this company, because she liked the way they handled the move. I was not at home when they came, but my husband was impressed also.

Art was prompt, quick, courteous, and very pleasant to work with. His two boys that helped were equally polite and the process couldn't have gone smoother. Very respectable to my old piano as well. We called on a Monday and Art said they could come by the next day (Tuesday). Great service and availability!
