Description of Work: Contacted Edward's Roofing & Repair through their website and made sure to mention Angie's List. Ed responded within 3 hours and said that "I will be out on Monday (6/9) to gather data and write you up the best bid I can. In the mean time if you would like feel free to reach out to me any time with any questions or concerns." |I called the office today (6/16) and I'm waiting to hear back from Ed to see if anyone has even been out to look at my roof. Seven days may not seem like a lot of time but I need to know if I should be looking for another roofing company.

I would like to start off by saying; one of the last things I expected to do was replace a roof on an 8 year old house. There was no storm damage or any hail pings. We had shingles sliding out in groups of 4 and 5 shingles at a time. After having the roof inspected by a couple of local companies in Birmingham, Alabama, the verdict was disheartening. They both came to the conclusion that my 30 year architectural shingles had been installed incorrectly. They were nailed in the wrong spot as well as an improper nail pattern. The original builder went bankrupt and was no longer in business, so we had no other recourse than to replace the roof at our expense. I grew up in St. Louis and was talking to one of my friends and he suggested that I get a quote from Edwards Roofing & Exterior. We talked on the phone and he sent me some references and insurance paperwork. Ed was able to do a bid with satellite technology his roofing company uses. He also stated that my roof was under-ventilated, which I had not hear from the local contractors. Ed explained that under-ventilation could lead to premature shingle failure and mold. I found that doing business over the phone with Ed was easy. We called his references and then decided to award the job to Edwards Roofing & Exterior. The day before his crew showed up, the materials and dumpster were delivered. I have a fairly large roof with complicated angles as well as a steep grade. They completed the job in two days, which conformed to the timeline bid. Clean-up was excellent. The only nail I found was under the dumpster when it was picked up the day after the job was completed. Ed?s company was very competitively priced and very knowledgeable. My new roof looks great and now it is properly installed and ventilated. I would highly recommend his company to anyone inside or outside the St. Louis area. Ed also came down to personally oversee the work being done. This was unexpected. Once again, great job!

The crew did a great job. Very professional and got the job done in 2 days. There was no trash or nails or any mess left behind at all.. I really like the fact that it only took 2 days to tear off and put the roof on since you never know what kind of weather me might get here in St Louis. Edwards professionalism was outstanding as well. Thank you for your honesty and punctual work!

So when Edwards Roofing says that no job is too small as their website states -- they mean it. They did not treat me as some one to put off for when the "big" jobs were all done. They took care of me as if I was important as a big sale job. I found them in the Oakville call newspaper I like to use local companies such as Edwards. I will definitely be calling them for all my future roofing needs. In Oakville, MO it seems that this is once a year. I can rest easy now with the coming snow forecasted this weekend knowing my roof is fixed. Thank Goodness I found these guys!
Description of Work: I had a few areas from heavy winds last week on my roof where shingles were blown up or damaged. It was minor repair needed. As such I was low on the list for the other roofers in the area listed in the Oakville Call newspaper to come and service my needs. While all the other roofing companies put me off all week -- taking not what was next in line -- but taking what would pay more -- Edwards Roofing came out same day as I called and performed the work on the spot in a professional manner and addressed the problem I had been waiting all week to have done. Their price was very reasonable . Some companies I talked to had a $ 500 dollar minimum.

The company came out and checked the roof thoroughly. We told them what they wanted and received a written quote from them with the request to sign the contract. In the fine print on the back of the contracted it was stated that we were giving Edwards Roofing full right to assign this contract to any contractor of their choosing at any time. In other words, we were giving them full permission to subcontract this work out to whomever they choose and we had no say in it. When we checked to make sure that we understood the clause and then stated that we would not sign the contract unless the clause giving them full right to assign the job was deleted, we were informed that unless that clause was included in the contract, they would not do the job. We chose not to sign the contract "as is" since it was apparent that Edwards roofing would not be doing the job but would be assigning it to someone else.
Description of Work: On the back of Edward's Roofing contract, it states that they are allowed to choose any contractor they wish and transfer our contract to that contractor without our prior approval, i.e., they can choose to sub-contract the work out to anyone they wish and we have nothing to say about it. They do not do the work themselves. Because of this, we choose not to use them and feel individuals should be aware of this.

Response from Edward's Roofing and Repair
To all it may concern, I am sorry that [member name removed] was disappointed with the experience he had with my company. I try to be as upfront and honest with my customers as I possibly can. [member name removed] did sign my contract along with stating that he would like to be exempt from special condition No. 4. which states: If contractor is unable to complete the work for any reason it may assign its obligations hereunder to a contractor of its choice. Now, [member name removed], having signed my contract implies that he was pleased with the scope and detail of the job I proposed to him. There was no hidden "fine print" buried in the back of my proposal.. It is very clearly written in Bold Print, ACCEPTANCE OF PROPOSAL; You must initial to acknowledge that you have read and agree to all the Terms of Contract stated on the back of the proposal which are all stated very clearly. After you sign off on the Terms of Contract, you then sign and date for the acceptance. When I reviewed the signed contract that [member name removed] had delivered to my home/office, I noticed he wanted Term No. 4 to be exempt. I called him to let him know that I was pleased that he was awarding me the contract but I unfortunately do not deviate from the Terms and Conditions. I was being honest with him in explaining that I am a General Contractor and that I do sub my work out to a very small select few. There are SO MANY contractors that will bold face lie about this, even on television commercials. Like I said in the beginning of my response, "I conduct business with the public as honestly as possible". [member name removed] told me that he was not comfortable with me subbing the roof out. So Instead of me fabricating some sort of lie to make him feel more comfortable like some other contractors may have/would have done. I told him that I was sorry and that I was not a good fit for what he was looking for, so we just dissolved the contract. Had I known sooner that this review was posted, I would have responded to this review much sooner. I believe that %99 of all roofing is Sub Contracted out. I think it is important that you make sure the General Contractor of the project is not just letting anyone work for him, cheapest bidders, illegals, etc, etc,. Make sure that he is monitoring his subs Workman's Comp. Insurance. Also make sure that there is a clear understanding between the General Contractor and his Subs that everything must be completed to the specifications with the customer. I keep a sharp eye on the work that gets completed under my contracts. If anyone investigates my Company, they will find nothing but good reviews with thousands of referrals to boot. Again I apologize to [member name removed] about his disappointment and wish him well... Sincerely, Edward, S Aguado, Managing Member Edwards Exteriors, LLC

This being my first experience with roofing, I got bids from more than 6 local roofing companies to ensure that I got the best quality for my money, and Ed's bid was by far the lowest. His bid also included a 30-year roof, as opposed to the 25-year roofs bid by every other company as well as replacement materials so there weren't any surprises when I saw the final bill. It wasn't a penny over what was bid. He came to my house and showed me, in detail, what was going to be done and personally supervised the installation. He knew that I was under time constraints to get the roof finished for insurance purposes, so on the first weather-permitting day, he and his crew started work and were done the next afternoon. The snow on the ground made clean-up difficult in the backyard, so they came back again after the snow melted and did a second clean-up to ensure that there wasn't any mess left. Ed is the owner of the company and his reputation is clearly important to him. He wouldn't accept payment from me until the work was complete and he was sure that I was happy and called a couple of weeks after completion to make sure I was still satisfied with the completed job. His company may not have many reviews on Angie's List yet, but I would recommend him to anyone in the market for a new roof and encourage prospective customers to at least get a bid from him. I couldn't be happier with the new roof or the service I received!
Description of Work: Complete new 30-year roof, complete tear-off of the old roof, replacement of rotten wood under the old roof, ridge vents, and a CertainTeed Landmark 30 shingle upgrade (which looks great!). Also installed a flat roof system where my roof plateaus at the front of the house to ensure that no water backed up under the roofing.
