It went very well. The HVAC professional was on time, courteous, and very quick with the inspection. He did a thorough check of the unit and let me know of the condition. I had to pay an extra amount of money due to some faulty wiring within the unit. Overall, this company is a A+ in my book.
Description of Work: I bought the HVAC "big deal" which was to inspect the entire HVAC system in my house and inform me of any repairs that needed to be completed.

I received a call while I was traveling for Thanksgiving that my furnace wasn't working. Thank goodness Angie's List is accessible from anywhere! Air Comfort Service was able to come out to the house the morning after Thanksgiving to diagnose the problem. Since I was out of town they had to coordinate with a neighbor to get into the house and then keep me informed via phone what was going on. It's always awkward having someone in your house while you're gone but Air Comfort Service was prompt, on top of everything, and kept me informed. I would certainly use or recommend them again.

The salesperson was extremely knowledgeable and helpful in helping us make a good decision about the unit to use. He assisted us in selecting a unit that was cost effective and has provided a tremendous amount of comfort and energy efficiency without breaking the bank. The individuals that came to evaluate the previous unit were equally knowledgeable about HVAC and check both my heater and AC unit for any damage also providing information about the different units and brands, what to stay away from, and why. When my unit was installed the technicians were extremely professional and did well to make sure everything was done right and that I was satisfied with both the look of the work and the use of the equipment.

After looking at the reviews on Angies's list, we called them up and they came out to give us an estimate to replace the furnace and a/c unit. As I was busy with the electrian at the time, I had my son go downstairs with the Air Comfort's estimator and he looked around and pointed out that they would replace the furnace and the chimney liner then he went ouside and looked around and said that they would put the a/c in the same place. They came inside and we sat down at the dining room table and he gave us prices for doing the job. I mentioned that UE had the $600.00 rebate and he gave that to us right off the top. He did not give us different options (upgrading the a/c or more efficient furnace) then he left. He was not the friendiest guy but we were looking for a reliable company to come in and do the job. We did get other bids but Air Comflort was the cheapest and they had very good reviews so my husband decided to go with them. The men arrived on time and went about installing the a/c and furnace. I asked the one gentleman a couple of questions about installing a generator to this system and then we talked briefly about the furnace and air filters. When they were done, they cleaned up after themselves and left. I went downstairs and noitced that they did not replace the liner as the old, weird looking one was still up there. I asked my son about this and he told me that the estimator said that it would be gone and they would install a new one. My husband called the estimator about this and he said that they just ran a new one down inside the old one. I looked at the contract and it was wrtiten up that they would install chimney liner, not remove old one and install new one as he told my son. I was VERY unhappy about this. We also had to have the electrical panel upgraded and when the electrical company was there, I heard the one guy tell the other guy that the a/c unit was not grounded so I asked them about that and they said that Air Comfort should of grounded the a/c unit. Great, huh? I called Air Comfort up and they sent another gentleman that same day to fix the problem. He told me that the conduit acted as a grounded but he went ahead and grounded it anyway. I knew I was going to have some more electrical work done so I waited to ask that gentleman if that was true about the conduit acting as a ground. He told me NO. I do not know anything about a/c-furnance or electrical. I just ask questions and hope that the person answering is being honest with me. Right now, I do not have a lot of confidence in Air Comfort and I wonder what kind of job was done on the house. In is a shame, we were going to have them come out next fall and install a generator

We had them come out to do a furnace inspection, cleaning and tune-up. They also replaced one filter. We have 2 heat pumps (large house). We are very happy with Air Comfort. Good job and a fair price.

Response from Air Comfort Service Inc
I’m sorry you were disappointed. After speaking to our customer service rep who spoke with you, I understand that you were calling various companies for pricing on a part and repair. We have several reasons why we don’t quote pricing over the phone for repairs especially on commercial work, as in your case. First and foremost we stand behind and warranty our diagnostics and repairs. In order for us to do that, we have to trouble shoot the entire unit for any problems. Very often people call in with what they believe or someone has told them is their problem. When the technician actually troubleshoots that unit the problem may be something entirely different or the “broken” part in question prohibits a proper diagnosis and there are additional repairs that are needed. Quoting a price over the phone without physically troubleshooting the unit is not providing a consumer the best service. Air Comfort Service, Inc. has been serving our community for over 42 years with that thought in mind… providing our customers with the best service. Originally called after-hours as the house heated up quickly without the air on. The tech called back quickly and said he was on another job and had about 5 more infront of me. Since it was already 9pm, I said ok, and that i would just schedule an appt in the morning. First thing in the morning their company calls and asks if i want to get someone out to inspect the system. We set a time and they show up exactly on time. The tech went above and beyond to troubleshoot the issue (which was partially non-HVAC related). Instead of getting the sales pitch for a new unit, he mentioned this unit isnt beyond its useful life, and promptly serviced the current unit and gave us a reasonable expectation of how long it could last w/ regular service (its already a 16+yr old compressor). The unit was fully operational when the tech left, and everything was cleaned up. Its been running great ever since.

blocked condensor\blocked condensor drain very dirty filter blower wheel and evap coil clogged I purchased service agreement for checkup on furnance this winter
Description of Work: After returning home from having surgery, my house felt very warm. I knew I could not recover in a too warm house. I thought maybe if I turn the thermostat to 60 degrees it would cool the house down. Of course, that was a long shot, because it did not work. I immediately got on Angies List at almost 11:00 pm and saw Air Comfort with a grade A. I read the reports and was pleased. I called Air Comfort since they have 24/7 services. I left a message with their service and received a call back from the tech on call within 5 minutes. He was booked but promised me that someone will definetely get to me in the morning and help me out. He stated that I will more than likely get a call as soon as the office opened. I got a call a little after 7:00 am and was pleased that Air Comfort was going to make it happen for me and assured me that everything would be ok. My tech arrived during the 9:00 am hour. He was very professional and immediately got to work. He told me what was going on with unit as well as the fact that it was 30 years old and that my furnance was 25 yearsl old. I told him upfront that I had no idea of the age of my units. He did not try to sell me a unit but thought I needed to be informed. I told him I wished I could replace it today, but did not have the funds available. He did the necessary maintenance and reminded me before he left the age of my units and when at all possible try to get it replaced.

HEAT WARNING with heat index of 105 and our air conditioner went out. Called a heating/cooling company who checked it all out and presented me with a $3,500 estimate to fix it and an estimate of $6,000 for replacement! ! It was 4:00 p.m. when I was out on Angies List looking for a second opinion. Air Comfort had someone here that evening, worked hard to fix it however confirmed the 14 year old air conditioner had bit the dust. David from Air Comfort was honest and had really tried. He didn't quote a new unit instead he contacted the sales rep Matt who then contacted me the next morning. Matt's schedule was really busy however he worked me in while traveling between appointments. After giving him the size of the unit from the previous company and our square footage, Matt began questioning the other quote. Based upon our square footage with the number of supplies and returns, he determined we really only needed a 3 ton and not a 4 ton unit. Of course I did my homework after our conversation and confirmed this with another expert. Matt's quote was not only more accurate it was more reasonable- half the price! They were here the same day to install and is working beautifully! Thank you Air Comfort!

10 days later, my A/C quit, it was blowing air but no cold air. I had Air Comfort out again and they again replaced the wires. Cost-$90 This time they said the compressor was going out and I needed to replace it or get an entirely new unit--cost $2800 to 4000. The man I talked to on the phone was an upper level guy and he was the one recommending I get a new unit. He didn't seem to get it that I was upset that my A/C worked perfectly until they came out and "fixed" it. So I had another company come that I had used in the past. What this tech found was my compressor was just fine but there was rust on an electrical component that was causing the wires to get hot. He replaced the component ($40, $35 labor) and said I was good to go. I stayed right with the tech--the compressor was cold and dripping water and the pipe coming out of it was ice cold. There wasn't anything "hot" going on in there. Maybe Air Comfort made an honest mistake, maybe. But I almost replaced a perfectly good air conditioner at a cost of $3-4000 when I just needed a $75 repair.
Description of Work: I took advantage of an Angie's List coupon to get a routine A/C check-up. I've lived in this house for 5 years and never had a problem with the A/C but thougth I would get it checked out. The tech that came out was nice, on time. He said everything was pretty much ok but that some wires were burning up because the compressor was running hot but should be ok after he cleaned the coils and replaced the wires. He then offered me their maintenance program that would cover a furnace inspection this fall and I paid for that.

Response from Air Comfort Service Inc
Member, I’m sorry to hear that you were disappointed in the service you received. Our intention always is to work with homeowners by providing them the information they need to make the right decision for their personal situation. Our technicians and our estimator were giving you options available based on the age and condition of your system. Your air conditioner is 18 years old. The average lifespan of air conditioners in St. Louis, according to manufacturers, is 12-15 years. There are operating units older than that but they are not the norm. The condition of your air conditioner is apparently deteriorating based on the 3 service calls you’ve had so far this season. Both of our technicians invoices show there were burnt wires and each time after repair the unit was operational when the technician left. Neither invoice stated the unit was running “hot”. They did note they were running higher than normal amps which would be an indication of a compressor problem. Also noted on the invoice was that you may experience additional problems because of this. The extreme heat and the number of storms we’ve had so far this season, may have, also, contributed to the problems you experienced. We try to let customers know when we feel their unit is failing so they can plan for replacement or repairs and can avoid that frantic Saturday night emergency call when it’s 100 degrees out. Repair or replace… it is always the homeowner’s decision which option is right for them. If the other company you had at your home didn’t discuss these items and options with you, they did you a disservice. An older unit is not only inefficient, costing you unnecessary utility expenses, it usually costs more in upkeep/repair costs. While I understand your concern that your unit was operating when you called us initially, it did have a problem of burnt wiring that you were unaware of and would have shown itself eventually whether we had come out to inspect the unit or not. We appreciate the fact that you chose us through Angie’s List. We’ve been able to work with and assist many Angie’s List members over the years. We are, also, disappointed that we were not able to help you this time to your satisfaction. Our entire team strives to satisfy all of our customers needs. If we can be of any further service to you or can answer any questions, please don’t hesitate to call. Corey Malone President Air Comfort Service, Inc. 636/893-1561

Background: Our a/c had been having problems keeping up with the heat wave. During the 99 degree and over days, it was constancy running. Although our thermostat was set at 78, it couldn't get the house cooler than 86 degrees at one point. Most vents had very little air coming out. Fortunately, we have a one-story house with a finished basement ~ a second floor would have been unbearable. I had no idea how old the unit was; it was here when we moved in (2005). I do not know when it was checked last. Going into this, I was expecting the worst and hoping for the best ~ hoping that a cleaning would fix it right up ;-P. I was a little unconformable paying for the service before hand. However, that was for naught. The company rep called me to make the appt even before I got my receipt printed. I got an appt just three days later, even though it is one of the busiest rimes of the year. Service: James arrived a few minutes before appointment. He was clean cut, professional, and upbeat. As a women I still get a patronizing/disrespectful attitude when dealing with servicemen, and I was thankful he was not that type. James got right to work, and was efficient. Unfortunately, the maintenance did not do the trick. He figured out the unit was from 1985, so it had reached the legacy stage. James showed me the inside of the unit (which I had never done), and two of the blades had broken off and were laying at the bottom inside. The remaining two were cracking; James was not willing to spray down the unit for fear that would be too much risk ~ especially in this heat. The aluminum insulation (?) was even pushed in, and for some reason the cover for the compressor was missing leaving the electrical wiring/cables exposed. The unit also has a leak. James was very thorough in explaining in layman's terms all the issues, and the expected life expectancy, along with cost of repairs (which would probably only extend it's life for only another year). James did NOT attempt to give me a sales pitch, but did contact his company to follow up with me regarding a new unit. That gentleman called me just ten minutes after he left, and he was professional as well, and not at all pushy. He is going to write me up a quote, with two or more possible ways to address. Overall: Although it ended up with some bad news - not that I was surprised, and was expecting it - I was thoroughly impressed with the service of this company. All this for only $79 :-D !
Description of Work: I 'ordered' a Big Deal offer from the company. It was a complete maintenance check/service: Clean/check a/c unit; check filter and drain line; check volts, amps, cap, pressure; tighten all electric; clean out door coil units running at this time. Any problems were thoroughly explained to me in layman's terms, and I was physically shown the areas that had issues.

Our air conditioner compressor shot craps on Saturday evening July 2nd, one of the hottest days of the year to date. The temperature in our home was 89 degrees on the main level and by that night, 94 degrees on the second floor . I first contacted my normal HVAC company, with whom I've purchased annual service agreements with for years. When the service technician showed up early Sunday morning, he told us our compressor is out and we will need a new one installed. And that their office is closed and someone will call me on Tuesday to give pricing. Uh...that's 2 days from now and it's a oven in here... I immediately began calling other HVAC companies on Sunday morning hoping to get a price and even schedule the installation of new system. After all, it wasn't getting any cooler in the house! All the companies i was able to reach had either answering services or call notes asking me to leave a message. Air Comfort Service was the only company that had a live employee answering the phones. The woman I spoke with was very empathetic and told me they had a installation crew on standby for emergencies, even over the long holiday weekend. She took my information and told me she would be contacting one of their sales reps, who was also on call and I will hear from him shortly. Within the hour Matt contacted me and we discussed the various options available to us based on our budget, goals and objectives. I ultimately decided to increase the size of the A/C, go with a variable speed compressor and 2 stage motor in a effort keep the house cooler in the summer, warmer in the winter. Especially for the upstairs sleeping areas. The upstairs was always 5+ degrees warmer/cooler than the main floor. Once Matt quoted the price and I accepted, we had a 2 man team with 2 loaded trucks in our driveway within a hour. Keep in mind, this is Sunday, July 3rd. The goal was to get enough of the system installed to cool the house. 6 hours later we had Air Conditioning! The crew was courteous, professional and had great attitudes. Especially being it was a Sunday of a 3 day weekend! They came back later in the week during normal work hours to complete the furnace hook up, piping, etc. The house stays much cooler now and the difference in temperature between floors is barely perceptible. The Air Comfort team was top notch from the initial call to their punctuality and professionalism and final results. I highly recommend them! By the way - our regular HVAC company did have someone call us on Tuesday PM to ask if we still wanted a quote. I would've been pickled by the time we came up on their radar! When we needed help they weren't there. But they did make sure they got a $145 to come out Sunday morning.

Initially I used one of your big deal coupons for them to come and do a spring air conditioning tune up and inspection. For that they were very prompt and professional. They told me exactly what was going on with both of my air conditioners. They did a phenomenal job. They were courteous, polite and did a great job. I'm going to call them back because I recently had two new programmable thermostats installed. Each worked for about two days and then they died. I kept trying to call the company to find out if I was doing something wrong with the thermostats themselves. I also noticed that there was water dripping in my basement along the air conditioner line. I ended up calling Air Comfort Services again because I thought it's probably the air conditioner itself. I called them yesterday, told them how miserably hot I was because my air conditioner wasn't working. They told me since my air conditioning unit was in the attic, they have to do that in the morning because it gets too hot up there. They came this morning which I think was very timely of them. They got here about 9:30 which they called about half an hour before they arrived to say they were on their way and left about noon. They told me that both of my thermostats were not functioning and because of that one of my air conditioning lines froze up which was the cause of the entire problem. They replaced both thermostats and charged me an arm and a leg. I didn't have to go to the store myself to get a new one and then have somebody else come back again to fix it. I've got cool air coming out right now.
Description of Work: Air Comfort Service Inc came out today to replace two programmable thermostats.

Courteous service center, and courteous service man.
Description of Work: Air Conditioner quit working. We tried our regular service company and they couldn't come for 5 days. I consulted Angie's List and called Air Comfort. They promptly took my call, my problem and sent someone out that evening. He quickly found the problem and remedied it.

Our Service Provider was Galmiche originally. We have used Galmiche since 1972. We replaced our American Furnance & Air Conditioner in 2006 with a Lenox. Over the last 10 years, I have had to request standard maintenance in order to get them to service my unit annually. I called Galmiche this time at 9:30 am and did not get a return call until 6:30 pm. I had already called Air Comfort Services at 3:30 pm and they came out the same day and repaired our air conditioner. The temperature in our house was around 80 degrees using the air conditioner. It could not cool it any better than that. The system has been running well ever since Air Comfort System repaired it.
Description of Work: He added Freon to the Air Conditioner. He found tiny holes in the pipe connecting to the outside unit, which this was the cause of the leak. The very first test he ran, he found the leak. Two years earlier we had to add 3# of Freon. It was a very slow leak. Our Service Provider (Galmiche) two years ago never offered once to test the system to see why it was loosing freon. You would have thought if they had to add freon, there must be a leak in the system.
