Description of Work: We initially called Kenny's Tile due to a personal referral to refinish our hardwood floors. I called to schedule an appointment for an estimate and the girl I spoke to said the scheduler wasn't available, took my name and number and said I would be called back shortly. 2 days passed and I did not receive a call back. I then called again and there seemed to be no record or acknowledgment of my original call. I went ahead and made an appointment for the following week and somebody did show up to do the estimate. (I believe his name was J.T. or T.J.) He was professional and had some helpful ideas and all seemed to go well. We were told he would send the estimate via email within the next couple of days. A week passed and we still had no estimate. I called Kenny's Tile again and explained to the person that answered the phone what had happened. There was no apology or explanation, she just forwarded me to the voicemail of the man who had come to do the estimate. I left a very polite, detailed message requesting our estimate, left my phone number and even spelled out my email address again. Once again there was no response whatsoever. As we were not in a big hurry to get this project done we let it go for the time being. | |Several weeks later I once again called Kenny's Tile. We were now looking to get our stair railings and spindles replaced in addition to having our wood floors refinished. I explained our first encounter to the woman on the phone and again got no apology or explanation. I was simply asked if I wanted to make another appointment and start the process over again. Although very frustrated, I was willing to give them a second chance due to the glowing recommendation we had initially received. | |The appointment time was set for 1:00pm and I was told that it would realistically be between 1:00 and 1:30. However, the person doing the estimate (Austin) didn't show up until close to 2:00. He was very professional and seemed knowledgeable about all of my questions/concerns. I did explain to him that our first representative never sent the estimate and he assured me that this would not happen again. He apologized for the first experience we had had and told me we would receive the estimate via email the following day. We are now a week and a half past that appointment and have received absolutely no communication from any representative at Kenny's Tile. | |Clearly Kenny's Tile not interested in our business so we will gladly take it elsewhere.

Kenny's knowingly sold me defective tile, Calcutta Grey, for my basement remodel. When I asked Tiffany, a sales associate with Kenny's Tile, who sold me the tile, why she did not at any time tell me that the product was defective she stated,"I don't know, I just didn't ". I ask for a refund of $571.11, which is what I spent on the tile. Today the owner, Tony, told his General Manager, Brad, to let me know that they will not be refunding me a penny of my money.
Description of Work: I purchased tile from Kenny's Tile for my basement remodel. I had approximately seven phone and email conversations with Kenny's Tile concerning my tile purchase from them and at no time did they inform me that the tile that I had purchased, Calcutta Grey, was, in fact, defective. The fact that the owner, Tony, along with his sales force knew all along that this tile that they sold me was defective and choose not to tell me is unconscionable.

The work went very smoothly. They arrived when they were scheduled and completed all the work on time. The granite vanity top has walls on three sides. It fit perfectly. The travertine backsplash was installed beautifully (in a diamond pattern) and looks as good today (6 years later) as it did the day it was installed. They were clean and professional. I would definitely hire them again, and probably will.
Description of Work: This was done way before I joined Angie's List, but I've been so happy with their work that I decided to put in a review. I wanted to put a new top on the single sink vanity in my guest bath and retile around it. The top and tile were original from the 70's and very ugly. I had been looking for a tan or brown color to match the rest of the bathroom, but I fell in love with some Blue Pearl granite. One of the ladies that works there (I'm sorry I don't remember her name) was able to come up with a tile that fit into the color scheme of the bathroom and also pulled in the color of the Blue Pearl granite. I was so please with the results. Here I am, almost 6 years later and I still love the design and I haven't ever had any problems with the installation. Also, they have a great selection of products.

How it went overall? The bid was extremely high so we eliminated Kenny's for both the carpeted bedrooms and the tile in the main living area. We liked what Kenny's suggested with regards to rebuilding the stairs and adding the rail and trusted that the workman they were bringing in was going to do a good job. In fact we met the workman before committing to the project - he seemed knowledgeable and appeared very experienced. The rebuid itself was a complete mess. The stairs were not "square" so much so that the odd angles were visible to the naked eye and when I held a metal right angle to the step edges there were angles that were off by as much as 10 degrees. Some steps also "tipped" forward and others "tipped" backwards (i.e. were not level to the floor). There was supposed to be a seemless look to where the wood ended and the carpet began on the treads. The wood "stuck up" in such a way that it was very unattractive. Took multiple calls to Kennys to first get them to come out and look at the work and then to actually agree to address it. The had the same worker come back to fix the steps. When he did he used differing thicknesses of wood from the original work and that created additional visual issues. Kenny's came out and agreed to a 3rd redo - this time two younger men came out and they did a great job. I wouldn't say it was exactly like I thought, but it was close enough and we'd spent so much time that I just wanted it to be over. Interstingly enough - as soon as the guys were finished on the 3rd try to get it right - Kenny's was literally at our door that same day asking for the final payment. I will give Kenny's some credit in that they did pretty much rectify everything in the end (probably because we refused the final payment until items were addressed). But I will never use Kenny's again - I honestly don't know why they have the reputation they do.
Description of Work: We contacted Kenny's tile for bids to finish our basement flooring. Bid included replacing existing carpeted steps and adding a stair rail, slate tile for the main living area, carpet for the bedrooms. The sales person was professional and listened to our questions, provided good responses and did a great job educating us regarding carpet quality and differences at different price points. He was good both about meeting us in the home for measurements and planning as well as meeting us at Kenny's tile as needed for followup and actual selections. The actual work was not a good experience.

This work was performed in the year 2011. The original stair case that was there had issues so we had too keep working on it till we got it right. Not every job is going to go smooth but at the end we made it right and completed the job. Kenny's does over 5,000 jobs a year and has a good reputation because we take care of our customers and have the full package.

We were satisfied with the service. They did a fine job. I was referred to them by the original builder of my house as the people who first installed the hardwood in the house. They didn't have the ability to match their prior work which is kind of disappointing because that was the reason I picked them. When they were matching the new wood in the carpeted area with the existing wood they didn't match it up very well. I had to make them come back out here and redo it because they had just done a repair in the middle of the room instead of doing the whole room. I was kind of disappointed they didn't take care of that without me having to tell them to do it but apart from that they did a fine job.

The tile work was performed as a two day job, and we couldn't be happier with the results and our selection. Carpet installation was a few days afterward and the crew showed up actually earlier than expected and went straight to work. They had some trouble with the tack strip on a concrete surface but overcame that issue and had the entire job done in the afternoon. Excellent work on the carpet and the stretching. Some companies just lay the carpet and is gone but they took the time to thoroughly stretch the carpet and tack down all edges. They also went the extra mile of pointing out an issue with a missing stair runner board which I quickly solved and they then wrapped the carpeting around it and it looks amazing. Extremely pleased with the carpet and tile work. Will be using Kenny's Tile to do my next project in my basement.

We were pleased with the end result. Kenny's has a wonderful reputation and is one of the biggest players in town. They have an immense showroom and selection, which helps when selecting materials, and they were very helpful during the selection process. We do have a few complaints. The price was reasonable, but only after Kenny's matched a lower estimate from a competitor. Before the price match, the Kenny's estimate was significantly higher and we were told they couldn't come down in price at all - until we showed them the competing estimate. Bottom line is, Kenny's has a right and the reputation to charge more, but you're probably overpaying if you don't get them to match other bids. Also, customer service was a bit lacking after the job was done. We had a small problem after installation that was ultimately fixed, but only after several weeks of phone calls.

Mark, the person who managed the job was excellent, he gave me a quote in a very timely fashion both in an email with a follow up phone call, they followed the given time line, they promised a lot and they delivered on their promise. When at the last minute I added something in, it was no problem and was taken care of.
Description of Work: We had our hardwood floors in our kitchen, family room, dining room, foyer, and closets refinished.
I'm very pleased with our guest bath. We struggled a bit with design but Tiffany, at Kenny's, was able to provide ideas that helped us with a design we were happy with. She was very helpful. The tile installation went well although I felt we were required to fit to their schedule. Each morning they had another job/task to attend to before they would come to our house. Average time to show up was anywhere from 10:00 - 11:00. Although he stayed until 5:00 most days, I felt that lack of focus on our job caused the total job to be pushed behind as other contractors had work to do which was dependent on the tile being laid. The contractor was quality minded and always confirmed what he was doing before he did it. He did a very good job on the tile. Another item that bothered me is I noticed the accent tile that was delivered was not what we selected. I informed the individual and asked him to take it back. I called Kenny's and was told the accent tile we ordered was no longer made and they substituted material they thought was comparable. They did this without informing us and we did not like the comparable tile. We later found the same accent tile at The Tile Shop and used that. The administration side was disorganized also. There were items we did not use and when the job was done, I received a call asking when we were going to pay the balance due. I told them I was expecting a revised invoice to know what amount to pay. I was given a total over the phone, which I paid, although I requested a receipt. As of this date, I still have not received a final invoice or confirmation from Kenny's that we are paid in full, which we are. Again, I am happy with the end result but would more closely monitor the materials and be clear with my expectations if I use them again.

The granite installation went surprisingly well. We were overall pleased with that part of the job. A sticking point early on was that we found the granite at another wholesaler, who told us it was priced in the high "A" group (out of A-J price levels, so it was a lower priced granite.) Kenny's ordered it from them but the Kenny's rep kept insisting it was an "expensive" granite, and charged us as such, even though we knew it wasn't. At any rate, an issue came up with the polishing and sealing of the granite - we had to call them back to fix several places. The granite division, along with the tilers, did not plan for replacement of appliances such as dishwasher and trash compactor, so our dishwasher is trapped in the cabinets with new floor tile blocking it. We had to move our compactor to our garage as it would not fit anymore, which is inconvenient. You would think that someone would have suggested raising the countertop a half inch, but no one did. If it weren't for my husband pushing things along, the subcontracted work for electrical and appliance installation would have fallen by the wayside. Even with some of these issues, we still find the granite beautiful and feel that the granite division of Kenny's is their strong suit, but due to the extensive problems with the tile division, we'd likely not use them again.
Description of Work: Remove old laminate, design template, cut granite and install, polish, seal. We hired Kenny's to do tile and granite work.. The main reason we wanted Kenny's is that they promised a seamless coordination of the subcontractors for appliance install, electrical, plumbing, and their services of tiling and granite work. This report is for the granite only.

Awful. Numerous problems: We had to fight for the proper underlayment, which when finally delivered was left it out in the rain so my husband covered it because he knew they would install wet wood; they supposedly sent their best tiler, but he had to leave the job due to a health problem, so his helper, who was very inexperienced and just did not think before he did stupid things, was assigned the job. For example, he laid our floor unevenly - you can actually stub your toe on the raised tiles; he laid chipped tiles and when we complained and the boss had him remove them but in doing that, he ruined the beautiful adjacent ones; he screwed up the sealing of the grout and floor tile and had to dig up tiles and replace those because he left a sponge mark on them; he did not finish under doors, corners were not right, etc. A promised one-week job turned into a month long nightmare because the company forgot to order the back splash tile and this delayed our cabinet work; their installer severed an electrical line, no one planned for the new height of the tile so our dishwasher is trapped now and if it breaks, tile has to be broken and removed to get to it, they also did not plan for our trash compactor to be reset, so it had to be put out in the garage and so on. My husband had to watch every single thing they did and lost time at our work and our own small company suffered because of it. It was just a nightmare experience.
Description of Work: Hired along w/their granite division to do extensive kitchen work, This report is for the tiling only. They tore out two layers of flooring and laid a quanzite floor tile, tore out back splash and replaced with new plus accent tile, contracted under cabinet lighting and electrical.

We initially worked with Heather to obtain a bid and select the granite. Next someone came to our home to create a counter top template. This was built without having to remove the old counter tops, thus leaving us with a fully functioning kitchen. Within three weeks of having the template built, the counter tops were installed. Kent and his crew did the tear out, haul off and installation all in the same day. All the plumbing was completed later the same day. The only time we were without a functional kitchen was during the tear out and installation - a few hours. Everyone did a professional job and there were no problems - Heather (sales), Josh (fabrication), Brad (install supervisor), Kent (installation - we have one seam and it is barely even detectable) and Steve (grout work - matches existing grout work perfectly). The staff was very personable, and took the necessary time and follow up to make sure that every detail of the job was done right and to customer satisfaction all at a fair price. We were pleased that we were able to get all aspects of the job completed by working with just one company. They are also listed as Graniteworks.

THEY ARRIVED ON TIME AND COMPLETED THE WORK IN ABOUT A COUPLE HOURS. PERHAPS I WAS EXPECTING THE FLOOR TO LOOK NEW AGAIN, BUT IT BASICALLY DIDN'T LOOK MUCH DIFFERENT. IT STILL HAD A YELLOWISH CAST FROM THE YELLOWING OF THE ORIGINAL COAT OF POLYURETHANE. WE WERE SUPPOSED TO BE ABLE TO USE IT AFTER 24 HOURS, BUT EVEN AFTER THAT IT SCRATCHED. ALL IN ALL, IT SEEMED LIKE A WASTE OF MONEY. I THINK NEXT TIME WE MAY HAVE TO HAVE IT SANDED AND THEN FINISHED TO GET THE LOOK I WAS EXPECTING.

JEREMY, THE SALESMAN, WAS FRIENDLY AND KNOWLEDGEABLE. THE CREW WHO TORE OUT THE OLD FLOOR DID A GREAT JOB. THE CREW THAT INSTALLED THE NEW WOOD FLOORING LEFT NAILS STICKING UP OUT OF THE FLOOR WHICH I CAUGHT A TOE ON AND WAS SLOPPY IN SOME AREAS. JEREMY KEPT REASSURING US THAT IT WOULD LOOK GREAT WHEN IT WAS FINISHED. THE FINISHERS DID A PRETTY DISAPPOINTING JOB. THEY DIDN'T FILL IN THE GAPS BETWEEN THE BOARDS IN SOME SPOTS OR FILL IN SOME OF THE NAIL HOLES. AGAIN, JEREMY KEPT ASSURING US THAT THIS WOULD BE FINE. THE LAST CREW THAT CAME IN WERE RUDE AND DID AN AWFUL JOB. JEREMY CAME BACK WITH HIS ''A'' TEAM AND HAD THE FLOOR FIXED. IT WAS JUST A VERY STRESSFUL AND FRUSTRATING EXPERIENCE. THE FLOORS LOOK FINE BUT NOT AS NICE AS OTHER'S THAT I HAVE SEEN.
