After getting a $650 "free" estimate from Hornbuckle, my parents dug out the water line themselves and found the source of the leak. After calling Hornbuckle and telling them exactly what was needed, they ordered the part and came out the next day to fix the leak. When the technician called to say he was coming, all the water from the hole was pumped out for him and the water was turned the water off. After fixing the problem, the tech did not have to turn the water back on nor fill in the hole. The tech was on site for 45 minutes and charged $167 for labor and then added a $70 fee for the "free" estimate. The parts for the job was $80, making the total for the job $320. After some questioning of the labor and estimate fees, the owner called back after a few days and was very reluctant to do anything, stating he had to talk to his wife first. The $70 estimate fee was refunded because "we did the work." The labor fee remained the same because it took the tech over an hour to "research" the standard part, and someone had to drive 5 minutes twice, once for the estimate and once to fix the water line. Needless to say, this company is out to rip hardworking people off. Beware of a "Code 50" if you use this company.

He was unable to give me a quote for a new unit or to do any repairs. A week ago, I received a $90 bill which has a very nasty disclaimer at the back of it. I just received this on Monday and yet they got it dated for the date that they were there, on the 8th. On the back they say, "all invoices are due upon receipt. If invoice is not paid within a 30 day period, interest charges will be applied at the maximum rate allowed by Missouri state law. The customer will be responsible for any and all charges that may apply for late payment. Failure to pay in a timely manner may result in the filing of the small claims and/or a mechanics lean unfit property." I find that very unprofessional. I sent a letter back to them indicating you should get better business sense, to be more reasonable and revise this bill. I have not heard from them because I just sent this to them yesterday. The guys that went out on a Friday evening, this is after the fire department had been there, had turned off the unit because of smoke. The fire department has shut it off. I was aware even though I'm in Ohio and that's in Missouri, that this thing burned out, it's not working. They don't have to tell me that they found the motor not working, I knew it was not working. I asked them if they can replace or repair and they were not able to do either and decided to charge me. The following day, the owner came out in person and did give me a quote for replacing, about $2681 he wanted for that. Almost $1000 more than what Robert actually installed it for. He was very responsive.

We did not hire anyone yet.

Our sump pump was 8 years old. When it would run to extract the water from the basin, there were times it would not shut off. So either it would have burnt the motor up or we unplug it and risk flooding in the location where the sump pump is at. We didn't know if they worked on sump pumps but we figured we check to be sure. Sure enough they do and on Saturday the technician came out to evaluate. He came in with the intent to fix it but in the end we needed a new one. He explained why a new one was required but that it'd be Monday before he could get a new one. So in the meantime, he built a temporary workaround that would last us Saturday and Sunday until he could get back to us. The temporary fix worked perfectly. As advertised, on late Monday afternoon (after 5pm) they came out to install our new sump pump. We are 40 minutes out of town for our job, so they worked around our day schedule to do their work. Another great experience with Hornbuckle folks.

Our hot water heater had a slow leak near the bottom so it was time to be replaced. We called about a replacement model, got the estimate, ordered the replacement and scheduled service date. On the day of replacement, the technician arrived on time, we talked about the worked he was about to perform and I let him have at it. In a couple hours time we had a new water heat installed and running. The removal of the old water heater and installation of the new one was as clean as could be. We've had a long standing relationship with this company for about 12 years now and call on them for all our heating, cooling and plumbing needs. All the techs that have ever visited are friendly, courteous and the quality of work is top notch. We've never had to call them to redo anything they've installed. Excellent company.

Had new water softener installed this time and water heaters checked. Came when said they would, very helpful and pleasant to deal with. The person who did the work was also one of two who came out on one of the coldest winter days two years ago when we had a burst water line outside the house. They had to dig in several places through frozen earth, clay,rock to find the leak and fix it. Took all day in horrible cold. These are wonderful people whether no matter what the problem: plumbing; heating or A/C.
