Moving back to St Louis from Chicagoland and needed to find an inspector quickly. Agent provided a list of all certified inspectors and then I went to Angie's to find one with a good set of reviews. Homecheck and more importantly Steve showed up as an Angie's award winner and his reviews were outstanding. We drove 6 hours down and back to be there and it was well worth the time. We spent 3.5 hours in total both inside and outside the home so I know it was thoroughly looked at. Report was concise, but also full of maintenance items and some testing we can do like the circuit panel for AFCI arc fault and each breaker which you really can't do while someone is living in the home. Only one item to be repaired by the seller so he wasn't looking to find something, just being thorough. A newer home owner would be very well served to use Homecheck as Steve also provides a wealth of tips on maintaining items in the home and has great, high quality contacts within the area for other services. He scheduled the termite inspection to coincide with our home inspection so we left with peace of mind on all fronts.

We were unfortunately unable to use him because we were uncomfortable with the fact that his availability only allowed him do the home inspection on the last day before we had to submit findings. While I firmly believe that he would have been an excellent inspector and the report would have been turned in the same day we were still concerned about things that can happen outside of his control. I would also like to note that it appears that he did not have avialiblity, besides the very busy market right now, is that he indicated that "we will take as long as is needed" "you have my full attention that day"

Steve is simply the best. As the other reviews support, Mr. McNamee is one of the top home inspectors in the City of St. Louis. His experiences are unparallelled and he is extremely methodological as he conducts his home inspection. In addition to his punctuality, Steve encourages new buyers to accompany him, he welcomes any and all questions and patiently walks you through every aspect of the inspection. He has a drone that takes video and pictures of the roof and surrounding structure of the property. Throughout the inspection, he documents his observations on his laptop, with pictures and videos. If you need additional resources, Steve is able to recommend other services and personnel. His inspections last 3 to 3.5 hours and Steve spends an additional hour on finalizing the report before sending it to you. Since time is critical for 10 day inspections, Steve sends the report a few hours after the inspection. We cannot think of another inspector we would choose for home inspections.

Steve was great! He is friendly, very knowledgeable and professional! He really takes the time to explain everything and includes you in the entire process. During the entire inspection we were encouraged to ask questions and point out anything that concerned us. We definitely recommend Steve and will call him should we ever need a home inspection again.

Steve was very thorough with his inspection, and helped us to understand what his recommendations meant in terms of effort, cost, and what to consider when moving forward with the purchase of the home. His quick response to all communications outside the inspection was also very impressive. Email, phone, text, etc he was very attentive. He also paid attention to other contractors on site, while working and asking them questions to make sure he could get a complete picture (since he had the opportunity) To me these are the kinds of things that show above and beyond consideration for customers.

Steve is very knowledgeable about common household issues and points out everything that is wrong with the house. I felt very comfortable speaking to him and felt like he was very honest about everything he saw. He gave recommendations of things that would be cheaper/more expensive to fix so we have a good idea of what we should try to negotiate with the seller for. We never felt rushed with Steve--he took his time and we felt like we were his only clients during the investigation. We would definitely recommend his services to a friend or if we need an inspection in the future.

Homecheck owner Steve McNamee is an all-around great guy! He is friendly, puts you at ease and he thoroughly explains things to you so you really understand. When contacted, Steve personally answered and had good availability. He arrived at the home early to do some roof and exterior inspection and was ready to show us his results. He spent three hours with us at the home and was thorough. He completed a computer-drafted report with photos and had it e-mailed to us within a few hours of leaving the home. He was knowledgeable about cost estimates and contractors in the area who provide services/repairs that are required. The price for all three services was reasonable. It was a very pleasant experience!

This went better than expected. I just want to put out there that I am a single mom and was buying my first home. Needless to say, I was terrified of buying a home with major problems. Steve was there before the appointment time and was already working when I showed up. He took plenty of time to do a full inspection and explained everything he saw. He took the time to educate me on things I could do myself and things I should ask from the seller. He followed up with an email, including pictures, of his recommendations. I left feeling more confident in my purchase and more confident as a potential homeowner in general. I couldn't have asked for more.

Highly recommended!!! We were in the process of purchasing our first home, and wanted an experienced, honest and trustworthy home inspector to make up for our inexperience. Steve was polite, funny, and relaxed, and clearly knew what he was doing. He responded to our message within an hour, at 11pm on a weekend nonetheless! He was then able to schedule during our preferred time, and took care of arranging the other inspections as well so we didn't have to lift a finger. Steve arrived early to the appointment, and was very thorough and efficient but not rushed, patiently answering our many novice questions. The inspection took a full 4 hours as quoted and covered the entire 2 1/2 story 2,700 sq. ft. house, as well as the basement, deck, and detached garage. I would absolutely recommend Steve's services to anyone looking for an honest evaluation, and will not hesitate to rely on him again in the future. I thought the price was fair, but even if it is higher than a competitor's quote, you get your money's worth and can save a huge headache down the road! Thanks to Steve we had a detailed report with pictures emailed to us the same day, and a list of 43 findings sorted by severity. We were able to use this to negotiate repairs from the seller, which would otherwise not have been known or corrected. I would also recommend doing all 4 inspections offered, not just the basics - bring your checkbook to pay after the inspections are completed; one of the other inspectors even gave us a slight discount for paying cash. I hope our positive experience helps others make the same worthwhile decision we did. You won't regret it!

Steve McNamee inspected the house our son intends to purchase. The report provided by Steve is of exceptional quality. Every aspect of the inspection process was handled with top-notch professionalism. The house in question is an "as is" sale. Steve's report not only included details about everything that needs repair, there were numerous pictures and suggestions regarding how to perform said repairs and some type of indication of whether the fix would be inexpensive or easy or more involved. We are super happy with Homecheck Inspection Service.

Steve arrived early to inspect the home's exterior conditions. We accompanied him on the interior inspection, and along the way he explained his findings. His written report with photos arrived that evening. Items needing attention were classified as marginal or defective and his narrative detailed the problem and solutions. By the way, Steve always answers his phone--no voicemail or answering machine. Would definitely recommend Homecheck Inspection Service.

Steve was wonderful to work with. Very personable. Offered an extensive walk-through with his observations but was not pushy at all. Anything that needed to be fixed he gave us information on the best and safest ways to do so. Explained things well for a first-time buyer. We had told him we were interested in getting an inspection so we knew what we were getting ourselves in to with the purchase of this home. His report is very detailed and gives us a list of improvements that need to be made to the house both immediately and long-term. It was also really nice how he coordinated the sewer and termite inspection at the same time as his inspection-it was great not to have to make extra phone calls and organize that. The inspection was very thorough. I appreciated the coordination with the other services (termite and sewer) and that Steve and the additional inspector were punctual. He spent time to explain everything that he found and sent the inspection report quickly. Would use again.

Steve is an amazing inspector. He really made up us feel confident that he was inspecting the house as if we were family. He had us join him for the inspection and pointed out all the potential issues/repairs that we could expect. He even ran the radon test an additional time because the results looked unusual to him. He also recommended great specialty inspectors for the sewer line and chimney. I would use Steve McNamee again without hesitation.

We were very happy with Steve's service. I called him on a Saturday morning and he answered--even though on a visit--to let me know that he was busy but would call me back ASAP. He made it clear throughout our interactions that a prompt response is very important to him and he will do everything he can get back in touch with a client just as soon as possible (call, e-mail, text). We really appreciated that effort. When Steve did call back, he was very good about getting necessary details. He offered to schedule an inspection within four days, but was happy to oblige when we asked for a specific day later in the week. Steve performed our radon test and went to the house a few days beforehand to set up his equipment. We had a slight miscommunication about who would contact whom about how he should get into the house, but this was quickly taken care of and everything was smooth from there on out. We were able to see the radon testing equipment and get a preliminary reading on the day of our inspection, with a thorough report sent later. Steve arrived at the house about half an hour prior to our scheduled start time and had already begun preliminary examination of the home exterior when we arrived. He greeted us with some background information on home inspection service in the area and quickly set us at ease with his sense of humor and honesty. As we went through the house, Steve was very good about pointing out little things and offering his knowledge and expertise on best fixes. He did not find many major issues but did a happy dance when he finally found something wrong--which was a good indication to us that he was definitely trying to ferret out any serious issues the house might have. While Steve offered a couple contacts for specific services, he did not seem to push them or try to sell anyone on us--it seemed that he was honestly just letting us know who was available and could be trusted to do good work. We also arranged our termite and sewer inspections through Steve. He did a great job of coordinating these other inspections so that both inspectors were in and out during the time of the home inspection and we had our results by the time we left the home. At the end of the inspection, Steve summarized all of his findings for us and our buyer's agent. We then received our full report--with photos of problem areas and all the details we had discussed during the inspection--before 6:00pm that day. We were very happy with both the turn-around time and thoroughness of the the report. We would definitely use Steve's services again felt that he was well worth the money paid ($400 for the inspection, $135 for the radon test).

Steve is a very nice person and has a great sense of humor. It was a pleasure to work with him. Our schedule time was 1:30pm, and he arrived a half hour earlier to check things. He took three hours to finish the inspection and checked the house very thoroughly. Steve found out any possible problem even tiny ones using his expertise. His inspection report is very detailed, too. For the defective things in the house, he also told me the estimate cost to fix the problem. The suggestions helped me in the price negotiation with seller. If I buy another house in the future, I will definitely use him again.
