We had some furniture that been in my Wife's family for some time, it was in definite need of refinishing. I called around to several stores to get a quote Rayfields was by far the most reasonable, Mr Rayfield was great when we brought the furniture to him, very honest that it might not turn out like we wanted offered us several options that included showing us how to do it ourself. He did a great job and called a few days latter to make sure my wife was happy with it. Nice man, would use him again good product at a good price

Description of Work: I had quite a few pieces of old, good quality furniture that had been left to me by my parents and all of it needed work - a mahogany 4-poster bed, 3 mahogany dressers, 2 end tables and 3 mirrors (Rich also replaced the old streaky mirror glass in one of the mirrors for me.) He picked up the furniture, two or three pieces at a time, and did a wonderful job on all of it. The furniture looks beautiful and Rich is great to work with. I will definitely call him for any future refinishing jobs.

He was aware that he talked himself out of some business, but because the other chairs had very minor repairs, he said he didn't feel right accepting work that was easy for me to do myself. A class act.
Description of Work: Rich repaired a kitchen chair that had broken. He told me how to repair other chairs myself and how to touch them up.

I had an old dining room table that had sat in my parents' attic for many years. I asked Mr. Rayfield if he could just strip the pieces; I wanted to stain and finish them. He was very agreeable to do whatever I wanted, and all the pieces were done in about 36 hours! I was very satisfied with the results, and it certainly saved me time and messiness!

Rich is simply a pleasure to work with. He is experienced and knows what will work and what wont. Our table and sideboard have been in the family since purchase but was not well maintained or protected. We had considered selling the piece and buying new but decided to give refinishing a try. Rich came to our house and told us that the quality of the piece was worth the effort to re-finish. He brought his truck and loaded up the pieces (the set is huge and heavy) and then called a week or so later to discuss what finish we wanted. He felt the best strategy would be to have us visit his shop and see a variety of finishes. Once that was done, he called a few weeks later to say the work was done and then delivered it to our home. The Sideboard turned out perfectly as well as the table (who knew such a beautiful piece was hidden under white paint). When he looked at the table, he told us he was not happy with the finish and suggested he take it back and re-do it. A week later he called (on a Saturday) and told us he had finished the table and it was now to his satisfaction. He was not kidding the table was beautiful and took an aging piece on the verge of being tossed out to a nearly brand new and re-vitalized for many years to come. So what can I say about Rich Rayfield: First of all he is a true craftsman who loves what he does. He knows furniture and how to restore just about anything. That said he tells you clearly what the limitations are and what to expect. Secondly, he has a sense of professionalism and customer focus second to none. He kept saying "I want you to be happy with this" and he really means it. Finally, he is extremely honest, he gave us a quote and even though the work was likely more than he expected, he never once mentioned changing the price in fact we even offered a bit more because we knew this was taking a lot more time and elbow grease on his part, but he turned us down cold. Rich is simply put a great person to do business with and you can trust he will do what needs to be done to make you happy. We would not hesitate to recommend him or use him again.

25+ years of family dinners, homework and craft projects had taken its toll on our oak dining room table. It needed refinishing. I called Rayfield's Furniture Restoration and asked for his estimate. We agreed on the work, Mr. Rayfield estimated it would be about 2 weeks from delivery to pickup. The tabletop was ready in less than a week! Mr. Rayfield did a marvelous job matching the original color and his hand rubbed finish is better than the original. We are extremely pleased and recommend Mr. Rayfield's services.

He did a great job, especially considering he refinished it the first time, and we we're not happy with the color or finish. Rich took the table back, and refinished it so it came out perfect. He insisted on making us happy with the final outcome. A true professional.

I called to check out time line and costs. Rich, the owner, said he could finish the piece in about three weeks, we set up a time for me to drop it off. It took less time than he thought and he gave me a call saying it was finished. The cost for services was what was expected and the piece was nicely refinished. Rich was so nice to work with and I'm happy to recommend him to others.
Description of Work: I had an antique tea caddy that that belonged to my mother and was special to me. It needed refinishing badly with water marks and scratches from years of use. Rich did a great job on this piece and I will definately call on him again.

I called Mr. Rayfield based on reviews I saw here on Angie's List. He said that he was super busy, but knew exactly when he would be available. It was about a month or more later that he called me on the exact day he said he would. Impressive! He came to my house and picked up my table and chairs since it was too big for me to handle myself. He also looked at some of my other antique furniture while he was here and was able to tell me values and original uses, etc. The table was ready on time. He delivered it and re-assembled it here. I think there was a piece of hardware that neither of us noticed was missing from the table (for many years). He came back on another day and put the piece in. The table and chairs came out beautiful, and I know they were well cared for. He treated my grandma's table as if it was as precious to him as it is to me. I cannot say how much I appreciate that. One chair kept loosening, so I took it to his shop for more work. He had offered to come to pick it up, but it seemed so far for him to drive just for one chair, and my friend had to pick up some chairs that he had repaired for her, so we just made a day of it. What a wonderful, talented, good man! I highly recommend him, and already have to a friend. As a matter of fact, I am getting ready to call him again for work on another heirloom. Thanks Mr. Rayfield! You're the best! This work was done in November of 2007, but for some reason, I did not do this review until now. I feel bad about that because he deserves a great review!
Description of Work: Mr. Rayfield refinished my very heavy antique Oak kitchen table and the chairs that go with it. It belonged to my grandmother and my great-grandmother, so it is precious to me. He did a fabulous job. He is a furniture expert, as far as I am concerned. He knows antiques and he knows what he is doing. Beautiful job!

My husband took the stools to this company on a Saturday afternoon. They were promised in about 1 1/2 weeks, but we got a call several days later that they were ready for pick-up. Wow, what a pleasant surprise! My husband picked them up the following day. The stools appear to be as sturdy as when we bought them, plus some of the nicks and dings had been fixed as much as possible. We will definitely use this vendor again.
Description of Work: We had 2 bar stools that were "loose" and needed to be fixed.

All repairs were done quite well. The only complaint I had was that he missed the outside corners of the arms on the chair with his paint. By the time I could see that the paint was too light in that area, I was already home and it was a 20 minute drive back and not worth it, as it was hard to see without close inspection. I did not follow up on this since I didn't want to deal with two trips to deliver the chair and pick it up again after the paint had dried.
Description of Work: Repaired two chairs and painted one of them. The back of a chair to my dining room set was broken when my daughter caused it to fall over. The decorative piece in the middle had broken. A chair with upholstered back and seat with wooden arms and legs had also been broken by my kids. A decorative piece that ran between the legs had been broken off. Additionally, I asked them to paint the wooden parts black.

I took the piece to Rich on a Saturday. He was able to identify the problem and fix it on the spot. The repair needed only wood glue and reinforcing fasteners, but it was outside of may capabilities. Rather than make a big deal of it, he said he could handle it immediately and let me return with the footboard. Rich's shop is in his backyard (no worries, thoroughly professional shop) and he was willing to accommodate my arrival on both Saturday and Sunday. Additionally, the amount charged was his minimum service charge. He seemed hesitant to even charge me that amount for such a simple repair, but the convenience and his friendliness warranted paying no less than the minimum.
Description of Work: Rich repaired a broken headboard and reinforced the opposite piece to assure no further breakage. He made the crack from the broken piece disappear.

Rich Rayfield picked up and returned the chairs as promised. While the finish isn't as silky and smooth as the originals, he did a good job matching the light color of the original pieces. The sheen is very similar to the originals as well.
Description of Work: Rayfield refinished a set of Heywood Wakefield mid-century maple chairs I bought on eBay. I have several other Heywood Wakefield pieces. The new chairs needed to match the color and low luster of the originals.

RICH WAS SO WONDERFUL. HE WENT OUT OF HIS WAY TO PROVIDE OUTSTANDING CUSTOMER SERVICE FROM BEGINNING TO END. I WILL RECOMMEND HIM TO ANYONE AND EVERYONE I KNOW! I WAS SO NERVOUS ABOUT THAT OLD DESK COMING BACK LOOKING ''NEW'' WHICH ISN'T THE LOOK I WAS GOING FOR. IT LOOKS SO WONDERFUL, I CAN'T TAKE MY EYES OFF OF IT. IT IS A REAL TREASURE, AND RICH TREATED IT AS SUCH.
Description of Work: RICH PICKED UP A TABLE I PURCHASED AT AN ANTIQUE MALL, TOOK IT TO HIS SHOP AND STABILIZED IT FOR A VERY REASONABLE FEE. WHEN HE BROUGHT IT TO MY HOUSE, I SHOWED HIM A VERY OLD ROLL TOP DESK (LATE 1800S) THAT I HAVE THAT WAS IN VERY BAD SHAPE. IT'S A FAMILY HEIRLOOM. HE TOOK IT TO HIS SHOP THAT VERY DAY. HE REFINISHED AND REPAIRED IT TO THE POINT THAT I COULD HARDLY RECOGNIZE IT!!! HIS WORK IS OUTSTANDING. HE REPLACED DAMAGED OR MISSING WOOD AND HARDWARE TO THE BEST OF HIS ABILITY. HE BROUGHT THE DESK TO MY HOUSE, AND IT WOULDN'T FIT THROUGH THE BASEMENT DOOR (IT HAD BEEN OUT ON THE SUN PORCH PRIOR TO REFINISHING.) HE REMOVED THE BASEMENT DOORS WITHOUT ANY COMPLAINTS, AND HELPED ME GET THE DESK INTO THE BASEMENT. I CAN'T SAY ENOUGH WONDERFUL THINGS ABOUT RICH, HIS WORK, OR HIS SERVICE. HE IS ONE OF A KIND!!! I GAVE HIM ANOTHER TABLE TO TAKE WITH HIM WHEN HE DROPPED OFF MY DESK.
