Blake Floor Company

Perfectly. They provided me with the information as to what they needed me to do before they arrived and on each day including what to expect from each days work. They were punctual, did what they said they would, cleaned up each and more importantly did excellent work. I live in a three story home with hardwood everywhere except the bathrooms so I have worked with a lot of refinishing companies before. Blake was by far the best.

We had a good news/bad news experience with Blake Flooring. In advance of the job, they were tremendously cooperative and patient with all of our questions and helping us to make a decision on the color and how to prepare our home for the work to be done. The job did not complete in the time frame anticipated, and because of surface anomalies had to be buffed and re-coated, then was still not to our (or their) satisfaction and required spot fixes which continue to show. They were cooperative and timely in taking corrective action but it cost us 4 nights in a hotel which were never anticipated. I have to give Blake Flooring high marks for customer focus but it total, the job was sub par. I cannot recommend them.

We had an issue which was eventually resolved. Michael Blake took a few days to get back to us by phone but when he did show up he fixed the problem. He really knows his business but it would be nice if communication from the company were more timely. Would hire again.

My wife and I just purchased a house with hardwood covered by laminate and carpeting. I was hoping to make the hardwood presentable. I had no idea how good Blake would make the floors look. The company removed laminate flooring and carpeting at minimal cost. Blake was by far the most reasonable quote I received, and the results were absolutely fantastic. I cant believe how well the floors turned out.

I picked Blake to give me a bid because they had good reviews on Angies List and because my home Inspector recommended them. Emil, the President, came out to walk through the house, discuss the project, and give me a bid. I can't say anything about their price relative to other companies because I didn't get any other bids. It's unusual for me not to get several bids but I felt really confident after talking with Emil that Blake would do a great job and I was right. They did the work the week before I moved in and I checked on their progress from the kitchen area. They started and finished as they promised and the floors are beautiful. Thanks for the great job and I highly recommend them.

Blake did a fabulous job. They were the lowest bid and had the most cost effective solution for the staircase (which turned out to be my favorite part of the whole job- very surprising because I thought we were settling a bit to keep the cost down). I typically don't go with the lowest bid but reviews and multiple conversations and questions later we decided they were the best bid. I am SO glad we did! They scheduled us promptly, completed the work very quickly and the job looks fantastic! So, so, so pleased with them! We're already recommending them to friends and family looking to have hardwood work done. Very punctual, well worth the value. The estimator and installation crew could answer all my questions without hesitation and took the time to do things correctly (even though the job was finished well ahead of schedule). We'll be calling Blake to refinished floors or use them for future installations for sure! Thank you! We are in love with the new space! I wish I could attach pictures!

I hoped Angie's List would protect me from companies like this. In late-August I got bids from 2 other flooring co.s from Angie's List for a sanding and refinishing job at our new house. Both were about the same price and could start work the day after we closed (9/9/15). I decided to call Blake b/c of the reviews I'd seen about the quality and price. I spoke with Amy from Blake on 8/20. I described the square footage and asked about price per sq. ft. She quoted me $1 less per sq. ft. than the other companies--which would save us almost $1,000. However, Blake couldn't start until around 9/21, and they could not come out for an in-person estimate until 9/4. After talking it over and confirming the price, AGAIN with Amy, we decided to put off starting the floors until Blake could give us the estimate. This meant we had to decline the services of the other two companies and move in with my parents for weeks because of the delay...but we were ok with that, given the previous reviews and huge savings. On 9/2, I called Amy to confirm the in-person estimate scheduled for 9/4. At that time, I also re-confirmed the price quoted. Blake came out and did their in-person estimate as scheduled. On 9/8 the paper bid was emailed to me. It was higher than expected, and it neither contained the square footage or the price per sq. ft. I emailed Emil, who explained they charge more than what Amy quoted me and that they hadn't charged the rate I was quoted for "several years." Today, 9/9, Emil refused to honor the price Amy told me and blamed me for the misunderstanding. We relied on Blake's verbal estimate. If they had been honest about their price to begin with, we would have gone with another company because of the delay. Somehow, I feel like they knew that. It was a total bait and switch. Now we're scrambling to find another alternative... As a side note. Amy also told me they would do 3 coats of urethane, and the bid said they would only do 2.

Absolutely awesome job. Blake was the low bid and I almost never go with the low bid but after talking with the estimator, I was sure that I could be comfortable with their work. She was very professional, arrived on time, had a laser device to measure quickly and accurately and was very methodical talking about what areas may need repair vs. just sanding. The time spent looking at the job took about 20 minutes. After getting the estimate on the bedrooms, I decided to have them come back and estimate doing the main floor as well. The crew was just as punctual and professional. They arrived about an hour before I did and had already done the first sanding of the steps and were nearly done with the first pass of the 4 bedrooms. By the end of the first day they had sanded and applied the 1st coat to 4 bedrooms, upstairs hallway, steps, dining room, living room and entry way. I went by that evening and was amazed at how beautiful it was. The next 2 days were done as scheduled, I left a back door open for them to gain entry each day. I was amazed at how little of the baseboards were marked by the sanders. Blake was recommended to me by my real estate agent who has been recommending them for 10 years. I also reviewed Angie's List and the BBB and they record is impeccable.

The person who came to do the estimate was on time, friendly and informative. I was supposed to meet them the morning the work was beginning to give them the key. They called about 30 minutes before to say that they were running late and weren't sure when they would arrive. The house is currently unoccupied so I just left the key. After the work was complete I checked and the floors looked great but there were a few issues, some nail holes in the floor were not filled in, sanding disks were left around and a jar filled with nails in the basement had fallen from where it was attached to a joist and broken. It probably fell while the floors were being sanded so it wasn't their fault but it would have been nice if they cleaned it up. I notified Blake of the issues and eventually got a call from the owner who wanted to meet me at the house to talk about the problems. Michael took notes of and said they would be back the next day to fix everything. They did an excellent job making things right, they even installed a threshold that I said I would do to save money. So there were a few issues but they went the mile correcting them.

I just bought a house and the floors looked a little drab and worn so I decided to refinish my floors. A friend had told me about Blake Floor Co. and said they did an excellent job on her floors. I contacted them for an estimate and they were at my home that same week. They were one of the least expensive of the quotes and were not only prompt but friendly so I decided to give them a try. I was told I could go down to their shop in Fenton to check out some samples to see which finish I liked best, they even let me take a couple home for a few days to try them out in the house! The day the workers arrived, everyone was very nice and I was able to see a sample of what the floors would look like before I left, as well as make sure I liked the chosen finish. I gave them my key and left for a trip I had planned. When I came back and saw the floors for the first time, I almost cried. It was AMAZING. They did a fabulous job and my floors looked brand new. I couldn't be happier with my decision to go with Blake Floor Co. If you are going back and forth on getting your floors done, do it. It was one of the best decisions I made all year. And go with Blake, because they do an excellent job at a great price!

You cannot even tell where the old floor and the new floor begin. Extremely happy with the job. The price is exactly what they had quoted. They arrived when they had said they would. The job took as long as they said it would. Floors look beautiful.

The process took about four business days. All floors were sanded and finished with three coats of polyurethane. Additionally the closets in the entryway and the bedroom were refinished. The bedroom had a good size black area most likely animal urine that could not be sanded; the area had to be replaced. Blake Floor also replaced a couple areas that previously had floor sockets removed so there was a hole in the floor. The floors are beautiful and one would never know there was the black area in the bedroom that had to be replaced. They have a less dust service available for an additional fee, which I did not take. Blake Floor does warn to expect a lot of dust. There is dust afterwards but I just took the vacuum cleaner and cleaned it all up. The overall cost was reasonable and Blake Floor did an exceptional job. I never knew my hardwood floors could be so beautiful.

It went well, very little dust generated, floors look beautiful. They do not move furniture nor do they remove curtains or closet doors and everything has to be removed from room before you start.

They were very professional and came when they said they would and finished the job in a timely manner. They were very nice to interact with and answered all my questions.

We had three other quotes and they were by far the most reasonable. They were very helpful and very clean. They came in while we were gone. We came home and had a few tiny repairs that needed to be done and they came out that very day and fixed things.

The new floors look great! We couldn't be happier with them. The job took slightly longer than expected, but we were told it is because we went with a darker stain than we had originally picked out. We had a couple of small mishaps during the work, but once they were brought to Michael's attention, he resolved the issues. One thing we learned was that we should have asked for "dust-free" method of sanding. We didn't think to ask for it b/c we were not yet living in the house. However, vacuuming and wiping down all the wood work, windows and cabinets for well over 10 hours about did us in. I wish someone would have warned us...

I called them based on reviews in Angie's List. They generally spoke of the quality work. Blake was also the least expensive of five quotes. However, I did not choose them because the lady that came out to give me the quote spent about 10 minutes taking notes, not saying anything. She then handed me the quote and then said, "Any questions?". I was floored. I needed her to explain everything about the process. However, she was just the office manager and had very little knowledge about finishing. For that reason, I did not choose Blake. Too bad, they may have done a good job but I didn't have confidence in them based on her.

I requested an estimate for installing hardwood floors in my home, and an in-home appointment was scheduled for April 15th. I received a confirmation call regarding the scheduled appointment the prior business day. The service provider arrived 40 minutes late for the scheduled appointment. I was disappointed that I did not receive a telephone call concerning the delay, and there was no apology for the tardiness upon arrival. While I do understand that delays occur, a telephone call regarding such a significant delay is simply common courtesy. I did not feel that that the provider respected the value of my time. As reported previously, the first words from the provider was a list of things his company did not do. It is now May 4th, more that two weeks later, and I have yet to receive an estimate from this company. In the interim, I have worked with, and have has several contacts with, two other companies from which I received estiimates during the same timeframe. I will not use this provider and cannot recommend this company.

Very disappointed. Emil Blake came to my house and gave me an estimate. It was in writing and very thorough as far as what they would NOT do and what my expectations as a homeowner were. Price seemed fair to me. He offered to come back once the area was demoed to see if floors under laminate could be saved. The first time I called to schedule this second look they lost my message (the secretary stated it was under some other papers) but I thought, no biggee... I just called back a second time. I took off from work to be home by 3 and I never heard a knock, the dog never barked and by 4:05 I called the office. There were 2 voicemails on my phone Emil was at my house - my ringer was off). Immediately I called his cell, texted, and called the office so I didn't burn the day from work for nothing. He did not pick up his cell and the office was closed. He stated he knocked but I have a hard time buying that since I was home the whole time and my dog never barked. I was in the front room, right by the front door sweeping up some nails from the demo work. I called the office in the morning when they re-opened to see if we could reschedule. This is when Emil got on the phone and was obviously angry. He started the conversation by yelling, "Didn't you hear my 2 voice messages?" and he "didn't know where I was, but I wasn't home!" I suggested that he may have been at the wrong house as I was home by 3:02, waiting for another contractor who was due between 3 and 5pm. He then described my home and so I know he was there. I was dumbfounded when he continued to yell at me for not being home (although he described my car out front) then he hung up on me stating he " works 10 and 11 hour days and doesn't need the aggravation." Wow! I'm just glad I found out before I signed anything. There is no excuse for this kind of poor customer treatment when there are so many other good quality flooring guys on Angie's list.

Everything went smoothly as this company knows what they are doing. We opted for the "Less Dust System" which I highly recommend. It is a little more expensive but completely worth it as it made the clean up easy. Mr. Emil Blake, who I think told me he had owned the company for 50 years, stopped by after the first coat of urethane to check on the job. This was very impressive to me as I have found that most contractors today just aren't that concerned with doing a quality job. Blake Floor definitely wants to do it RIGHT--not just finish it and get paid. All phone contacts with the company were pleasant, professional, and helpful. The man who came out to bid the job showed up early and knew what was required to do our job. We talked with two other floor companies but they didn't give me the impression that they could handle the scope of the work even though they did bid on the job. The others both advised me to tear out and replace my entire red oak floor because "the repairs" would never match the existing floor and I "would always be able to tell where one room ended and the other began". They couldn't have been more wrong. By using Blake Floor, we were able to save a ton of money, aggravation, and the tremendous mess the tear out would have caused. I feel the price they charged was fair and quite reasonable. Our floors turned out better than we could have ever imagined. We are 100% pleased. I would advise to read over the rather long handout of "what to expect" carefully. It is very helpful. This was a four day process for us because of the extensive repairs ( that were handled surprisingly quickly ). Different crews came each day but all were respectful of our home, able to answer any questions and very professional. We opted for the water-based finish so we could stay in our home as there was no unpleasant odor. We were dreading doing this because of the anticipated disruption and mess but it turned out to be a painless and positive experience. Thanks, Blake Floor Co.

They were fabulous and we are using them again this year. They had a reasonable price and were very professional. They are prompt and made our floors look like they were brand new again.

Update: After my original review, I was contacted by Mr Blake who was very polite and apologetic. After speaking with him, I believe this to be an isolated incident based on bad timing and other extenuating circumstances. I wish the Blake Floor company all the best. I called Blake Floor Company for an estimate to install hardwood floors in my kitchen. They scheduled with me promptly for 2/5. Mr Blake arrived on time, was polite and answered my questions. He left and said he would get back to me with an estimate. I left a message a little over a week later to get an update and my message was not returned. I called again on 2/18 (2 weeks after the visit) and spoke to someone who pulled my file and said that an estimate had not been worked up, but she would leave a note that I had called to inquire. I waited another week to call again which brings us to today. I left another message about an hour ago and hope to hear something back soon. I am disappointed since other reviews on this site indicate they do very good work.
