Took an $11,000 down payment in November. Work was to begin in January and last approximately 6 weeks. Work did not begin until late March. They worked for one week to frame the basement and then work stopped. We have tried to contact Jeff Fawcett by phone (including an alternate phone number provided, email, via Cardinal's website and in person. He has made no effort to try to contact us. We don't even have the material that he told us the $11,000 down payment was for. Do not do business with Cardinal Home Improvements.

We called another company and their quote came in much cheaper-nearly $2500 cheaper than the $10,000 quote they gave.

Response from Cardinal Home Improvements
On 7-19-14, Cardinal Home Improvements had an appointment scheduled with [Member name removed] for a free estimate. The price given was $9,616.00. As is the case in most every situation, the better the quality of materials combined with higher quality on the installation of the work can result in a higher price. We extend a price guarantee on every project if it is an apples to apples estimate. As for our sales practices, they are very similar to most all of our competitors, if not universal. We encourage our representatives to pursue every job thoroughly, and sometimes that comes off the wrong way. We strongly discourage any rude or pushy behavior.

Young man soliciting door to door. Gave him info and received a number of calls trying to set up meeting with my spouse and me. Due to spouse's travel, this was impossible to schedule and I did not think it would be necessary due to small job. Contact asked if I could make decision without spouse and I should have ended it then. Meeting took an hour and a half, salesman insisted we had to replace the door, then offered 3 prices, one of which expired if salesman didn't have a signed contract. Unbelievably poor attitude and would recommend that you just scratch this company off the list.

Two men arrived in a car with no ladder and only an inclinometer and a briefcase. Proceeded to give a nearly 2 hour sales pitch with a starting bid of $18000 and after several rejections, ending at $10000 for an approximate 2200 sq foot roof shingle replacement job. Had to end the meeting due to having to get ready for work, salesman was visibly agitated at me repeatedly rejecting their offer and insistence for a signed contract. I ultimately wished them a good day and showed them the door. I had the roof replaced by another roofing company.

Our experience with Cardinal Home Improvements was unacceptable. We had them come to quote a small deck with steps down to a patio. The salesmen arrived a bit late, and smelled of cigarettes and beer. We told them what we were wanting, and that we were on a budget. Once we took them outside to measure, they kept expanding the size of the deck, saying "they didn't want to do it too small or we wouldn't like it". Unfortunately, because budget is an issue (as it is for most everyone) we could not afford a huge deck, but just needed a way to get out our back door, which is 5 feet off the ground. They kept pushing the extras, and when we would say no because they were too expensive, their only response was "well what if money wasn't an issue?" Well if money wasn't an issue, I would probably have a much bigger house, but unfortunately, that's not the case. After their initial quote of over $20K, we told them absolutely not, and that was more than twice as much as a previous quote we had gotten for a bigger deck. Instead of scaling down the project to what we actually wanted, they kept pushing financing. We did not want to finance the project, because it would still be more than we could actually afford. Well then they decided to "cut me a deal" if I signed a contract that day, and lowered the bid to $17K. STILL OUTRAGEOUS for a small cedar deck! Again, we declined, saying that we needed to think about it, but we had somewhere to be and we would be in contact with them. They would NOT leave. They were there for almost 3 hours, even after we told them NO several times. We could not get them to leave, and at the end of the appointment, we were extremely frustrated with their lack of listening skills. They kept trying to talk us out of a concrete patio for some reason, and kept trying to push designs on us that would take up our entire small yard. Needless to say, we have found someone else to do the work for less than half of their final "discounted" quote. Do not request a bid from them, or expect to have them at your home for at least 3 hours pushing you to make a purchase that you have REPEATEDLY told them that you cannot afford! Even after we told them that we were not interested, the continued to call us, asking if we had the opportunity to think about the quote. HUGE mistake.

Much, much, much worse than POOR!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Description of Work: A VERY, VERY, VERY poor (to be kind) of the ENTIRE job. Starting at the ground level, the cement footings were poured in early Feb. and were extremely sloppy to say the least. The surrounding lawn was a COMPLETE mud field. The siding work on the support pillars looked like a 1st grader did the work..no shot at the 1st grader. The ONLY good work (questionable at best) was the deck itself. The support rails wer poor and I had to climb underneath and tighten the bolts all around. I've included several pictures which exemplify the TRUEST meaning of the the word "SHODDY". Don't even talk to these "salesmen" because you're asking for MORE trouble than you can imagine. Think the WORST possible results and that is truly CARDINAL HOME IMPROVEMENTS, fitted to a giant "T". Thanx for letting me vent. Jim Olley 115 Timber Trace Crossing Wentzville, MO 63386 636-887-4065

Made the appointment prior to reading Angie's List. Did read before the sales rep came to the house. After the rep asked several personal questions which I felt were unnecessary, went through the long speel about the company, including the great reviews on Angie's List. When he decided not to go off the property survey and to just go out and measure, he informed me that he could not attach to the side of the attached garage as it was not part of the house. He made a call and informed me that it could go to the garage. We went in so he could figure the prices and quoted over $11,000. for approximately 150 feet of fence. Told him no, it was three times more than other quotes. He then called and quot;Jeffand quot; to see if could give a better quote. After about a 10 minute conversation that included trying to figure out who I have quotes from, I was offered a quote of approximately $9,900. Told him to write it down even though still over double other quotes. He informed me that to receive the last quote, I would have to sign right then and there. I told him no. I also informed him that I had read on Angie' List that they like to continually call after the visit to try and convience you to buy and that they need to lose my number as I do not want them calling me. If they did call me after notifying him, I would file harassment charges. The sales rep wrote a note on paper and told me he would make sure they did not call. That meeting was a couple weeks ago. Today I received a call. Not only did he not tell me who he was as he was acting like we were friends, but I had to ask him who he was. I notified him that the sales rep was notified not to call me and this was the first offense. Two more calls and would file harassment charges. My advice, do not use them. Don't even talk to them. Thank you Angie's List patrons for the heads up.

I set up an appointment with a person who they sent to canvas our subdivision. That individual made it sound like a simple estimate with no strings, however I was asked to ensure all homeowners were present, which is usually a red flag for a pushy sales experience. The estimator came on time and did the measurements and came up with 30 squares of roofing and initially set the price at $25,000. They claim they used the best materials available and no one else has them and claimed all sorts of other exclusive benefits of working with them. The only choice offered is shingle color. The price dropped gradually from $25,000 to $15,000 as he tried to get me to sign on the spot. After I declined during the meeting at my home they continued to call me offering lower prices until I made it clear I wasn't interested. The and quot;special discountand quot; and low pressure claims made by the canvasser were nonsense in the end - their only task is to get an appointment for the sales rep and they're willing to lie to do it. Cardinal's price turned out to be much higher than other estimates got later from top companies here where I initiated the contact. They were all in the $10,000 range. Their estimators provided options, answered questions and were helpful, not just interested in making a quick sale at an exorbitant price.

At the time we contracted with them Angies List gave them an A rating..We wanted to have a white vinyl dog pen built. They came out and gave us an estimate. They also asked us if there was any other work and we wanted to have a few gutters that we needed. Our mistake was that we didnt get any other estimates for the pen and found out later they were higher than average. We now have loose post and a few other problems. We were in too big of a hurry.

Absolutely the worst experience I have ever had with getting a bid. The boy they sent pressured me to sign a contract that night. When I declined, he became angry and threatening. I had to call my neighbor next door to come out and join me to get him off my property. I reported this to the company, and got little response.

Response from Cardinal Home Improvements
Upon the request and confirmation by (deleted member name), Cardinal Home Improvements sent a representative to her home on April 17, 2012 to give her a free estimate. She was presented an opportunity for additional savigs, as is the case with all of our homeownes, and she declined. At that time our representative left a business card and proceeded to his next appointment. Upon leaving a neighbor came up and requested informationon a project and requested an appointment. After notification of the alleged incident, (a year earlier than this review posting) Cardinal responded immediately - thus the "B" rating for responsiveness! We value all of our customers and will continue to strive to maintain our high level of customer satisfaction as indicated by our high ratings with both the B.B.B. and Angies List.

My initial experience was positive. Cardinal Home Improvements (Cardinal) was willing to reschedule appointments and meet with me at my home. Phone-based staff was friendly and helpful. The experience with Cardinal took a turn once the sales associate arrived at my home. I found him to be courteous, but dressed unprofessionally for a sales person that was about to enter my home. I invited the sales person to my kitchen table to discuss in detail my desires for the deck. I explained that I wanted a PVC wrapped composite material for my decking. The sales associate told me that this was an inferior material and that they would not build a deck using my desired material. As a well-informed consumer, I should be able to pick any decking material that I would like. I understand that a contractor may prefer certain brands, but to refuse to build with a widely popular decking material seemed very strange to me. At this point, the sales associate asked if my wife would be joining the conversation and I explained that she would not be joining us and that I would be the primary decision maker for this particular project. The sales associate then explained to me that we would not be able to continue with the bid without my wife present. As the primary decision maker for our household, I again explained that my wife was comfortable with me making the decisions for this bid. He again refused to give me a bid for building the deck. I found this to be very unprofessional and unusual. As a sales professional, you must be willing to learn and work with your clients needs and expectations. He seemed uninterested in either. He appeared to be much more interested in selling a material I was not interested in and unwilling to educate me on why I would want the material he was trying to sell. Furthermore, if I tell someone that I will be making the final decision, I expect that they will believe me and proceed with my request.

As a locally-owned, locally operated St Charles company we take every review very seriously. Unfortunately, information may not always be communicated and/or received properly to our customers during the canfirmation process. We have always offered a free, no-obligation estimates to homeowners that would allow us time to demonstrate our products, and share information about our company. Our only request is that all homeowners be present. This is an effective way for us to save time and money by showing all interested parties at one time. All our sales associates are encouraged to be on-time and dressed professionally. On this occasion, therre may have been an exception due to weather conditions. (we had just received14" snow 2 days prior) To avoid situations like this, we always confirm every appointment to the fact thatall homeowners can be present to participate in this Free, No-Obligation estimates. When we save time - we can pass that savings on to the customer.

Everything was above expections. Project start to finish was without any issues. Prompt service, clean up was great, no unexpected issues. Very pleased with the quality of the windows, lower utility bills and installation!
Description of Work: Triple pane residential windows. Pricing was higher than most estimates, but not by much. Considering the windows are triple pane (not double) and have UV protection for floors, the extra cost will pay off in the long run. Installers were professional, and clean up was fantastic. Would definately recommend and plan on using them for Patio and Front Doors next! You won't be disappointed. There was some adjustment on our part, which included, darker window appearance (due to uv coating) and we don't hear much outside noise!! Has helped on utility bills also! Very Satisfied and great experience.

I kicked the salesmen out of my house.
Description of Work: A young man left the contact info for this company on my front porch. He was polite and we chatted for a few minutes. I once had the sucky job of obtaining door to door leads so since we were looking for a new roof I decided to contact this company. In talking with the appointment setter I was a little surprised that they kept asking if the time I choose was convenient to both my husband and me. The time is convenient to us though he would not be there. When the sales men arrived they kept asking where my husband was. Over and over, they asked for him or when we might make arrangements for him to be there for the sales pitch. A . This women can grasp whatever special thing you do for roofing. I can assess a bid for home improvement perhaps better than my husband. Your sexist attitude lost you a customer.

Originally we were going to just get an estimate, the salesman (James) did a good job explaining the product and the process, answered all our questions, and got us what we felt to be an acceptable price/financing given our budget. Once the material was in, they called us to schedule the installation and they started on 11/26. Unfortunately not all of the siding made it that day, so they only did the sides of the house, which I told them was ok. The remainder of the siding was delivered Friday 11/30, and they came Monday 12/03 and were able to finish. Overall, the installation looks good, and they did a good job. I do have a few minor complaints about the job, mainly stemming from cleanup. They forgot to finish caulking around one of the windows (I didn't notice this until the Saturday following the installation, and I am sure they would have come back to caulk it, but I had caulk on hand and decided to do it myself). They also left a lot of small pieces of siding/J channel around the house leftover from small cuts. Lastly, while I wouldn't have been surprised to find a couple stray siding nails, while walking around the house checking it out later in the week, I found just over 20 nails in the lawn/driveway without having to look too closely. Overall I am satisfied with the installation, the house looks much better, and I would use them again should a need arise. I would recommend looking more closely at everything when they are finished and checking with them to make sure they will clean up anything that is noticed instead of assuming that they would. On a parting note, they also left me with a tube of caulk that matches the siding just is case I should need to touch something up. That was appreciated!

Cardinal installed new windows in our home in October of 2008. They did a great job. Our old windows were in bad shape and they were able to install the windows with minimal damage to some waterlogged areas around the old windows. The installers were professional and nice. They were easy to talk to and they were eager to answer questions that they probably get asked a thousand times a week. We started having problems with our windows shortly after the install and at about this time we had some major illnesses/deaths in our family. So the window issues were pushed to the back burner and time had passed - 4 years to be exact - and we finally called Cardinal to ask if the windows were under warranty because we were having problems with them. Someone from Cardinal prompty returned our calls and came over to the house and looked at all the windows. It turned out to be and quot;operator errorand quot; and they were able to show us what we were doing wrong when tilting the windows in for cleaning and how to make sure we did it right the next time. We were impressed with them even more for coming 4 years after the sale to take care of a problem. I highly recommend them.

They couldn't be nicer. They went above and beyond to make sure we got exactly what we wanted. We knew we wanted a new front door, as we had 2 huge doors. The salesman offered a 6 panel steel door with a nice strom door with side lights and we agreed. He had just started doing business with a new door company and gave us a good deal with a minimal down payment. Then, some other workers came to take extra measurements before submitting them to the company. New code requires that the exterior doors have a 36 inch diameter, but this company only makes 34, which wasn't code. Also, the back door wasn't code either. They could put in a 36 with 1 side light. The problem was that he sat with me for an hour and he helped me pick out a beautiful door with 2 side lights. He said "we're going to have to make it right". He called the manufactorer to see if they could do a custom door with 2 side lights. The salesman was very nice, but suggested that we knock out bricks from the wall and pour concrete. When I explained that this simply wouldn't do, he obliged me. They made good on the offer with a custom 36 inch door with custom storm door. They even pointed out a tiny mar in the storm door that I wouldn't have even noticed. They sent a new door. I knew they lost out on that job, but they made sure that we were satisfied customers. We met code for the neighborhood, and all the men they send out are nice and professional. After the door was installed, they replaced the defective door. I glanced at the door and I could see sun coming in through the bottom of the door. They sent another guy out and made everything right. They even did extra little things to the wood so we wouldn't have to paint it.

Overall--was not pleased with my interactions with Cardinal Home Improvement. The salesman Jim was great. And the quality of the door installed was very good. But after that it went downhill. The gentlemen that installed the door did not have the correct door handle. We ordered a brushed nickel handle. And they did not install the step lock on the sliding glass door. None of this was mentioned when he completed the installation. He wasnt even going to show me the finished product-just wanted me to sign the papers and he was going to head out the door. I said-can we go downstairs and look at the door. When my husband got home he noticed that the handle installed was the wrong color and the step lock wasnt there as promised. We called the home office and the owner said-Yes I was aware it wasn't completed I just hadn't called you yet. I'm still confused why the gentleman who installed it didn't raise it at the time. Seemed like they were hoping we wouldn't notice or something. I was disappointed that I had to pay in full when the job wasn't completed. So they adjusted the balance I paid (after my request to do so) His response-I wish all jobs could go 100%---100% of the time. But they can't. I think they sell a good product-but wasn't happy with the people that I dealt with after the sales call.
