Response from Rocking Chair Construction
Dear (member name removed) i would sincerely like to apologize if I left you in a bad position. I have no recollection of your name, address, and do not remember your job which is not like me at all. Are you sure it was Rocking Chair Construction from Conway Mo. I'm not saying it wasn't me, I'm just saying I don't remember. Once again I would like to apologize for any inconvenience. Thank you have a nice day. Jody Bunch 417-531-4766

i don't highly recommend this company.
Description of Work: we needed a privacy fence replaced, and trees removed that were overgrown in the line of the fence row. we got the estimate and felt good about the price. he told us he would build the fence using dog earred boards not the prefabbed wooden fence panels. again we thoughtt hat sounded like a good deal. the work was done during a cold spell, and we were satisfied with the work he performed on a daily basis while it was "warm" enough to working in the elements. then like a year later we had a big wind storm come through and one of the sections started leaning, and i called him to come check it out to see what it would take to fix it, and jokingly said, "would be nice to get it fixed for free". the guy has never called back or showed up to tell us what it would take to fix the problem. also since then, we have noticed how "shoddy" the boards were butted together. several of the end board pieces of the 2x4's are "scabbed" together, and not cut off to end at a 4x4 support post. "IF" i ever call on this company in the future, i will explain in detail on HOW I WANT THE WORK DONE, and not leave it to them to just do the work.

Everything they did cosmetically looked good for a little while. I have cracks in the ceilings and walls from them. The addition is shifting. They were in the middle of 2 projects and never came back. Unfinished.
Description of Work: Rocking Chair Construction built an addition on a walk-in closet for me.

it was during some cold weather, and they worked according to the weather, and was still pleased with the time frame the work was done in.
Description of Work: we had several trees in the fence row that needed removed, plus the old privacy fence removed. they used the upright "dog eared" boards, 4x4's fence posts, and 2x4's for the "railing." at the time it all looked good when the job was fnished. the first strong wind gust came and i called them to say we needed help with "straightening" up some leaning post. jokingly i also sad "it would be nice if it was done for free." i am still waiting on them to show up and take a look at the fence. also wherever the 2x4's ended that is where they butted the next 2x4 insteading of making sure there was a post for added strength at each end of the 2x4's.

He was honest and was willing to back me up and go to court with me to tell that another company only put on a 35 year roof and not a 50 year. He did a good job and did good cleanup. He didn't leave any mess. He did a good job for a reasonable price. I bought my own materials and he did labor only. The price for labor was real reasonable.
Description of Work: I used Rocking Chair Construction to put on a roof. He is coming back to put on guttering.

The shower leaked, but he came back and fixed it. It was not caulked, but he came back and fixed it. The area where the green board meets the ceiling is pretty wavy when it should be a nice, neat smooth corner, and the caulking is very uneven. I had him install a stairway railing, that he made about a foot shorter than I requested (approximately 15%) on each segment (it is a two-segment stairway). I specifically walked out and showed him where I wanted the starting and ending point, but he ended it a full riser lower than requested. I had him install an ice maker line for my refrigerator, but I still don't have ice. In fairness to him, it is possible that it is the refrigerator and not the line he installed, as the fridge came with the house and I'm not sure what is the problem. Based on the work he performed, I was expecting a bill of around $1200, plus parts of maybe $200. My total was $1900, with no breakdown of how he calculated the costs.
Description of Work: I like Jody as a person, and found him pleasant to work with, but I was disappointed with the quality of some of the work and the amount that I was billed. He installed a shower, moved washer and dryer connections, and performed a number of small "honey do" type tasks.

Response from Rocking Chair Construction
Dear Member In response to your review I am sorry that you were dissatisfied with your project. In 14 years you are the second displeased person out of thousands of jobs. I would like to be able to satisfy you but some people are just happy being unhappy, and if the quality of work was so bad why would you call my employees and try to hire them behind my back? I will be glad to fix or change any of my work to your liking but my company will not be employed by you again. As for the bill I consider $1900 a bargain with the amount of work that was performed, I would love to see another reliable company do it for less. Just to put it into perspective here is a list of some of the work. 1- remove and eliminate electrical circuit from pool area. 2- fix short in electrical circuit in wood stove area. 3- Remove bathtub and shower surround, re-route plumbing, install new shower stall, sliding doors, faucets, drains, replace sheetrock, etc. 4- move laundry room from basement to second story of house, including hot and cold water and electric. 5- cut to fit and install 2 pairs of bi-fold doors. 6- install 2 new shelving units above washer and dryer. 7- purchase and install new icemaker line and saddle valve. 8- patch and repair approximately 15-20 holes in wall from electrical boxes, cable boxes, seams, etc. 9- install and stain 2 pieces hand rail. 10- move water line so dishwasher would fit and install new dishwasher. 11- rewire and move electrical and install over the range microwave. 12- install ceiling fan in office. 13- install 2 new medicine cabinets, move mirrors from one bath to another and new light in lower bath. 14- assemble and install towel pantry in bathroom. 15- assemble and install new toilet. 16- install one new sink and 3 new faucets, pop-up assemblies, and supply lines. 17- install new shower faucet in lower bath. 18- install solar security lights. 19- assemble bedroom furniture. 20- remove clog and repair drain lines to furnace. Not only was this work performed plus a lot more, it was all on last minute notice and had to be done at night away from our families because we were not hired until after the painters and tile layers had already started. Also included in the $1900 was all the sheet rock, tape, mud, corners, shower drain, ice maker line kit, glue, cleaner, shut off valve, misc. electrical, caulking, plumbers putty, teflon tape, and most all of the plumbing and fittings for showers, drain lines and moving the laundry room. The shower neck did leak, because the rubber was cracked. The top edge of the shower was not caulked because the painter was painting as I was finishing and you cannot paint wet silicone. The stair rails were installed to the last stud for 16 inches and the rails would have looked awkward another 32 inches long. I did cut into the cabinet and offered to fix it, and was told by the customer that it was not necessary because that was where cookbooks were going. I apologize for that. I wish you the best of luck with the rest of your remodel. Thank You, Jody Bunch Rocking Chair Construction

Jody is a very busy local contractor. He found time to meet with us to determine the parameters and budget for the job. We agreed on a day to start the work. He and his helper arrived on time ready to begin work. He took the time to insure that I understood and was in full agreement with his methods. Work progressed throught the day with only a short break for lunch on site. All work was completed on time and on budget. Rocking Chair Construction is a recommended General Contractor on Angie's List, with good reason. Good work, completed on time and on budget is hard to find today. His estimate was very reasonable, several hundred dollars lower than the next best bid. He met that estimate and did excellant work. I recommend him for any that want good work at a reasonable cost.
Description of Work: Converted Garage to family room. Estimate included framing in and finishing window installation. Install HVAC unit thru wall. Wiring in 1 220v connection for A/C and 5 110v outlets throughout room. Additionally, Jody and team framed in and added screen door to spa room.

When the new paint bandaid came off, There were cracks on the ceilings and walls, the closet is shifting, and they never came back to finish 2 projects they were in the middle of. Would never choose them again.
Description of Work: They came out promptly to give me an estimate. I did end up selecting them. They started the job 1 1/2 -2 weeks later. They put in a full days work every single week day until the job was done, approx. 1 1/2 wks to complete. I had them build an addition onto my house for a walk in closet. They removed an existing closet and repaired the walls and ceiling. They installed an air vent in my new walk-in and installed lights, outlet and an interior door. He custom built wrap around shelves and clothes rods completely around the new 6x12' structure. They also used the existing siding that they removed from my house and used it on the new structure to match it up perfectly.
