Jacob did a fantastic job! He was able to get to our work quickly in his schedule which worked out so nicely because our painters were coming in the next week. He finished the work in one day and kept all the sawdust outside. We will call upon him again for any carpentry work!
Description of Work: Installed crown molding in our living room and hallways.

I would highly recommend Jacob and JG Carpentry. First off, he responded quickly to my email inquiry and came out to take measurements the next day. I was impressed when he came out, he brought my specifications (printed out) and some photos of past work similar to what I was wanting. He got a detailed quote to me shortly after that (it was maybe just a day or two). He completed the cases in about 2 weeks (as he'd promised) and came and installed them in just a couple hours. When he and his helpers were installing, they were professional, prompt, and clean. On top of their being great to work with, the quality of the cases is exceptional. The house is old and uneven, but Jacob fiddled and shimmed until everything fit perfectly and looks totally professional. I had told him I would do the caulking and sanding to save a bit of money, so that wasn't included in his price estimate, but he even did some of that for me (especially up high) to save me the trouble. The attention to detail really shows. The cost was very reasonable, and he even came in 50 dollars under what he had originally quoted me. If you are thinking of installing shelving of any sort, skip the very costly cabinet places and check out these guys. The quality if just as good and you'll save a bunch. I quoted the job out to six different contractors, and I'm so glad I went with these guys. Excellent work!
Description of Work: Built and installed custom wall to ceiling book shelving and window seat.

Working with Jacob was not only painless, it was exhilarating. His flawless carpentry skills were only enhanced by his many excellent design suggestions - an inch wider facing here, a little recession there, this type of molding might look a little nicer, we could stop this here and run that over to there, etc. He showed up for the first visit for an unhurried discussion of what we wanted. He was in constant contact with drawings by email, showed up again for a final run through so no miscommunications, was cheerful, bright and had an optimistic "can-do" attitude I found very enjoyable to work with. His suggestions on design enhanced the overall look of the project, he went beyond the scope of the project to help us solve wiring problems for future lighting of the bookcases, was spotlessly clean, quiet and extremely fast, doing much of the work in his shop before ever arriving at the job site. I've had experience with some good subcontractors, (and some bad), over the course of building a couple houses in the past but Jacob Galloway is hands down the guy to call to do your trim, cabinet and carpentry work. I would've rated him much higher but "A" was the top category Angie's List would give me to fill in.
Description of Work: built floor to ceiling bookshelves surrounding window and connected by a window bench seat.

Ours was the classic situation where a seemingly simple job with a modest budget ($17,000) grew in size and cost as demolition proceeded and more and more problems were revealed. Though the price doubled and then some, that was not the fault of the contractor. The workers assigned to the job appeared promptly and regularly, the work they did was absolutely first rate. We were completely satisfied in the end (though our bank account was considerably smaller!) and would use this contractor again in a heartbeat.
Description of Work: J and G rebuilt and modernized a second story bath that had been badly designed when first installed. They stripped the old bathroom to the floor joists, removed an interior wall, braced the floor of the bathroom (by placing a steel beam in the basement supported by still posts that rested on concrete poured beneath the old cellar floor). The sub-contracted the plumbing and electrical work as well as the installation of the steel beam and its support system. They guided us though the selection of a new tub, a new shower, and linen closet and vanity--all from sub-contractors.

Before starting, we discussed the work to be done and the approximate duration. Jacob and Aaron would always tell me when they would arrive -- and then would come on-time. They worked efficiently and thoughtfully, ending each day with a work-site cleanup. As in my previous experiences with Jacob, I found him working to high quality standards, offering useful insights on how to approach problems, and overall -- a true professional.
Description of Work: Jacob and Aaron prepared our house for renovation. They installed beams to level the floor, removed cabinets - unhooking plumbing and electrical -- removed flooring, trim and fixtures.

Jacob came out to give me an estimate. It seemed very fair. He said that he would perform the work as soon as possible because he was working on another job at the time. He called a couple of days later. He and another worker came out and did the work. They came back the morning of the second day to finish. Everything was done well, they cleaned up after themselves, and Jacob called sometime later to make sure that we were happy with the job. He seems very conscientious and capable. I would definitely hire him again.
Description of Work: Jacob installed a window in a storeroom. I had had another carpenter divide the room in two so that one half could be used as a wine cellar. The cooling unit for the cellar vented warm air into the other half of the room. it was getting much too hot in that half of the room which was affecting the performance of the cooling unit. So I had Jacob install the window so that a window air conditioner could be used to cool that room.

My experience with Jacob Galloway, the company's manager/owner, was unparalleled: His work exceeded expectations and left me with a deck that is much better than I had envisioned. Although he will work to exacting standards, asking this unassuming professional for his opinion results in wonderful ideas. On the deck we discussed shaping the railings -- so he provided several design alternatives (samples). For the surface, he suggested a design that provided clean, finished lines. For the structure, he knew when to engage help from structural experts -- never offering more insight than what he knew. The finishing work on the deck was almost like cabinet work: joints were clean and tight (until my treated lumber shrank a little), surfaces and other components were square and level. In fact one day, I noticed that there was a slight ‘wave’ in a handrail. I was busy that afternoon and decided to mention it to Jacob the next morning. When I went to show it to him, he just smiled… he’d already fixed it (he had noticed the same thing and fixed it the afternoon before). While Jacob was excellent at deck construction, he also demonstrated excellent work on installing exterior and interior doors. This type of “finishing” interior work is the focus of his business – and it showed. Hinges and knobs were precisely installed and the door that he installed opened/closed like never before. Finally, Jacob is simply a hard worker and an extremely ethical man. It’s wonderful to find a company that has it all: excellent work and helpful opinion along with strong business and personal ethics.
Description of Work: JG Carpentry installed doors, constructed a customized deck and provided thoughtful design perspective on both. The deck was constructed with treated lumber with a stainless steel cable rail border. Rail caps were shaped by Jacob and installed. Structural members were prepared and installed to support roof. Special finishing was done to allow for installation of over-sized screens. Doors were mortised, bored for knobs/latches and installed.
