 + -1 moreThey did a good job; I would hire them again. I received 3 bids on the job, and Gold Seal was the cheapest. I know, "you get what you pay for" but there are lots of things to fix in this house so I have to stretch the budget. They responded immediately to my request for bid, had someone out right away for the estimate, and kept following up until we were able to agree on a date. They convinced me the quality of paint they selected was just fine, and it was. They did everything as agreed, and it turned out great. I also appreciate they took the job, as I know it wasn't the biggest job around.

 + 0 moreI should have done it myself. I grew up the son of a general contractor and worked for him for years doing everything from new construction to remodels. We hired Gold Seal because we thought that they would do a better and faster job than I would. We were wrong. First off, it took them months (literally, no exaggeration here) to get back to us to schedule the work once we accepted their bid. Once the bid was accepted, the finished product was sub-standard. After the owner came and reviewed the poor work his original guys had done, he sent another one to come back and "fix" it - and then charged us another $250! In addition, the "fix" still left numerous gouges and irregularities in the drywall finish to the point that I spent two days fixing it! I don't know how they are at painting, but they did and awful job with our drywall!

The master bedroom with the vaulted ceiling had what appeared to be a border of lighter colored paint because I assume they did not cover it with the second coat. Apparently, the paint was rolled up and stopped about 3 - 4 inches from the ceiling. When I pointed this out to the owner, he agreed and made it right. He was not actually the one doing the painting and saw immediately what I was talking about so there was no issue. He and all of his staff were professional. Overall, they did a great job, were approachable and addressed my concerns.
Description of Work: Their team painted my great room and master bedroom in my newly purchased home. The great room had 10 foot ceilings and needed 2 coats to cover. The master bedroom has a high vaulted ceiling and also needed to get 2 coats.

 + -1 moreWith one exception the workmen were reliable and appeared on time--at least after the first day or two. One of the painters, however, seemed to have a problem with drinking. He sometimes came late in the morning, took long breaks,and left a bit early. One day the contractor stopped by to check and discovered the man on a ladder and to some degree under the influence. Despite our protests, the man came back to work the next day. He did apologize and swore not to repeat his behavior, but we were nonethess a bit worried about our liability should something hapend to him. Still, the owner was easy to work with, willing to deal on price, and did check every couple of days on the quality/progress of the work. We would use this company again--and their work comes with a three year guarantee.
Description of Work: Preparing the house for painting involved more scraping and tuck pointing than had been predicted. We were very grateful that the contractor absorbed that cost into his original estimate. They used quality materials--Sherman Williams paint. Most surfaces they sprayed and then rolled, a workable method. The trim, and there is a lot of that on our Tudor style house--was hand brush-painted and/or rolled.

 + -1 moreOverall, it was fine. The owner gave the estimate and communicated with us. He stopped by several times to supervise the workers. We pointed out several areas that needed to be retouched and they took care of it. They finished all of the work in a reasonable amount of time. We can't tell yet how well it will hold up but it looks good now.
Description of Work: Washed the two sides of the house that were covered with Colorlok siding-scraped edges-sealed areas that were open-primed and painted siding.

 + -1 moreAfter receiving several bids, I felt that Gold Seal Painting had the most professional approach. They provided an estimate, we discussed the details and agreed upon a start date. I chose the house color while waiting for the start date. They started and continued working every day that weather permitted. You must be somewhat flexible with outdoor painting because weather delays are outside the control of all parties. They realized that some of the wood had rotted. They priced the wood panels and let me know the cost. We discussed options of using in stock (cheaper, different size and thinner) or special order the same wood that was on the house. Though it was more expensive, and I did have a tight budget, I opted to go with the special order. My logic was that they would have to put more effort in fitting and piecing the in stock wood panels which would eat up the cost savings of the cheaper panels. And I thought it would compromise the appearance. They had carpenters available that could do the work. Though I had the option of hiring someone else, it was easier to go with their staff. They did a great job and replaced several wood panels. They also primed and painted the pergola. I felt that the communication line was very open and available. When I had questions about the paint vs stain, they discussed it with me until I felt comfortable making the decision. I felt they partnered with me to complete the job.
Description of Work: I received several bids for exterior painting of my multi-level house.. Gold Seal Painting was the only vendor that recognized I had stain, not paint on the house put on by a previous owner. We discussed and I went with their recommendation to go with a solid stain. They caulked and sealed everywhere, hand brushed the grooves in the wood and also replaced rotted wood. In addition they painted a pergola over the back deck. Every step was discussed and confirmed before continuing work. The painters were very professional (prompt, courteous, hard working) and thorough. I am extremely pleased with the results! I highly recommend Gold Seal Painting for your next painting job. They have my future business. Note: The decision to use solid stain instead of paint was made because stain is self priming and as it ages, does not peel, but fades. I compared the solid stain and the paint using the same color formula and they looked exactly the same. DO ask about every step. DO ask for a price breakdown (labor, paint) Do ask for a formal bid in writing. DON'T assume you know the process.

 + -1 moreI was informed by Mr. Bennett that all paint would contain fungicide to help prevent mold damage to our pressed-wood siding, which I thought was a great idea. The carpenter did a very fine job removing the moldy siding, repairing the area and replacing the siding. The painters did a very fine job. The work itself was done very professionally with prompt workmen with good work habits. The only unsettling experience I had was this: The owner did not call to set up a time to review the job with his foreman, which was unnerving on the early Saturday morning that they showed up walking around the house. However, if I were to use him again I would ask him to let me know when he's coming and I'm sure he'd be willing to do that. In the re-caulking job the workman (whom I never saw) apparently didn't follow the directions of Mr. Bennett, so Mr. Bennett sent him back to finish the job correctly. I feel that Mr. Bennett was responsive to my concerns, checked on progress and our satisfaction, and had good people working for him.
Description of Work: House needed to be painted after its first 12 years. Some pressed-wood siding was moldy had to be replaced. Mr. Bennett located a source for the siding. Carpenter painted backside of siding with Kilz and pieced in the sections after removing rotted portions. Painters mixed fungicide into all paint. Screens were removed. House was spray-washed, cracks were filled, siding was painted by rolling with 2 coats. Trim (excluding guttering, at my direction) was cleaned, scraped and painted. I had chosen a dark color to go over a light color on the siding and the light color was thoroughly covered. A year later after a terribly dry summer there were some spaces between siding sections on the west side of the house; Mr. Bennett sent a workman back to re-caulk those joints and paint over them.

 + -1 moreumb.The painting was okay. I was happy enough that they were able to get it done quickly before we moved into the house, but there were some issues.... 1. While they might have technically put on two coats, they were very thin coats. In a few spots the previous color is still showing through a bit. 2. I did have to clean up in a few places where quite a of bit paint had gotten on the trim work. 3. They cleaned there brushes out in my yard, and the grass there has not really recovered. The repair to my kitchen ceiling is not acceptable. I would not expect it to 100% match the existing ceiling, but the repair stands out like a sore thumb. It will have to be redone.
Description of Work: Painted several rooms and patched a hole in kitchen ceiling caused by plumbing leak.

 + -1 morePlease see comments above. This as an horrible experience. I will have to pay some one else to do the job correctly. This has been a nightmare. I am trying to sell my house and because it took him so long to get to my house to paint, I missed the three day Memorial Day weekend to try to sell my house. Unbeknownst to me, it is such a shabby job, I would not have been able to show it to anyone any how.
Description of Work: DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY - On April 21, Curtis Bennett gave me a quote to repair some boards, power wash my house and paint it for $2100. I said fine do it. I did not receive a contract to sign. Two weeks later he sends some one to power wash. They said the next day they will be back to do the carpentry work. Next day Curtis Bennett called to say that his employees got home late as they ran out of gas and that the carpenter's father was in the hospital and that they would not be there that day. In out original agreement, the front and side facia boards would be replaced. When one guy came back, not the original carpenter. He was just replacing half of the facia board when it was obvious the entire board needed to be replaced. After several phone calls, and a trip to the store, the board was replaced. Only two feet of the front facia was replaced. Several phone calls and a week passed. Bennett called said he was on his way to paint but it was raining and he was turning around and going home. Well, it was not raining at my house. Every week was another excuse of why the front facia was not completely replaced and why there was no one there to paint. He called me to say it was going to be an extra $300. I told him fine, that I would have to pay him in payments. When he and his crew showed up on June 1, over a months since the orig quote. He said the facia did not need to be replaced so he only replaced half of it. The facia looks awful 1/2 new and 1/2 rotted. The caulk is showing through. They did not replace the piece of the roof to the facia. Bennett was screaming at me in my driveway stating that he would fix the facia for another $300. This guy is a fast-talking shyster. He is a liar and a lousy painter. Now I will have to pay someone else to fix the crap he messed up.

 + -1 moreThey kept talking to us, let us know what was going on and how to fix the problem. They kept the space as clean as it was without massIng it up. We are glad that we hired them to do the job.
Description of Work: We have a business space with red color and green color interior walls needed to be painted in white. The owner of Gold Seal Painting expected to use two coats to cover all the colors up, but they had to use five coats to turn the colored walls completly into white color. They explained the unexpected issue, but finished all the job on time without an extra charge. Most importantly, they did an excellent job.
