Description of Work: Not sure he really investigated my dryer problem sufficiently before he advised I seek out help from another professional. He agreed to come back if the problem persisted, which it is, but I would have to pay the hourly charge even though he really did not give me a full hour the first time and did not do a complete diagnostic.

Description of Work: Replaced pump in clothes washing machine. Came right away when I called. Diagnosed the problem quickly. Ordered the part and came back as soon as it came in. The part Ben received was different than the one in the machine--the exact part is no longer available. Ben modified the part to fit, installed it, and got the machine working in less than an hour.

Description of Work: My washer and dryer are both decades old and both were having problems. I feared I was going to have to invest in a new set. The washer wasn't spinning out. That seemed to be an act of magic; it worked for him where it hadn't for me! Neither of us was sure what happened there, but he did some poking around and it's been working fine ever since, though he claims he didn't actually do anything. The dryer wasn't producing heat on one setting. He detached my dryer hose and cleaned it out, cleaned the duct from outside as far as he could go and gave me the name of someone who could complete that job (it runs through a space above a ceiling to get outside and he couldn't do that part), and had me wash out the lint filter, which LOOKED clean to me but evidently when it comes to lint filters looks are deceiving. Both machines now working great. He does what needs doing for a reasonable price, seems to have long experience, and is honest about what is worth fixing and what isn't. (He told me that my particular model of Lady Kenmore was the best washing machine ever made and worth fixing even at over 2 decades old). Will definitely call him for all future appliance repairs!

+ -1 moreI spoke with Ben on the phone about my leaking refrigerator and he diagnosed the issue almost immediately without even seeing the fridge! Clearly he knows his appliances. He was willing to come the day I called but my schedule couldn't accommodate him, so he came promptly as soon as my husband and I were available. He was courteous, professional and very neat and tidy. He completely defrosted our freezer, removed all the excess ice and fixed the drain warmer with an inexpensive, clever modification, rather than a replacement, to prevent it from freezing up again. We will most definitely be calling Ben in the future if we have any appliance problems - I hope he's still making house calls when we do!
Description of Work: Defrosted freezer, adjusted warming element to prevent freezing, educated us about appropriate temperature settings for our fridge and freezer.

+ -1 moreBen did a wonderful job. He was prompt, courteous, and the final price was exactly what he quoted us in the beginning. He came by to diagnose the issue (dishwasher was screeching while running) and told us that the motor needed to be replaced. He quoted a price and then ordered the part. He returned about a week later with the part and had it installed quickly. I appreciate that he is not a appliance salesman and did not push replacement over repair. However, I do believe that if he thought we'd be better off replacing he would have let us know that. The quality of his work was stellar, it's been almost two months and our dishwasher is almost as quiet as a mouse. We will definitely be calling him again next time one of our appliances needs service.

+ -1 moreHonesty and integrity come to mind as I describe my interaction with Ben Crabtree. I have previously used another popular company for repair of our large appliances. I began to have reservations when the last three appliances were not repairable; instead, each needed to be replaced. Ironically, this same company sold new appliances. I chose Mr. Crabtree for my second opinion and I have found my new repair person. I called at 8:00 a.m. and he showed up at our scheduled meeting time on the same day. I did not expect this prompt service but was delighted. He quickly identified the problem and was able to fix it on the same visit. The refrigerator was resuscitated, at least for now. More importantly, Mr. Crabtree imparted a sense of trustworthiness which I found reassuring since I was at his mercy for I know nothing about appliance repair. It is without reservation that I highly recommend BEN CRABTREE APPLIANCE REPAIR.
Description of Work: Repair built-in refrigerator #1. This refrigerator had a faulty switch which was replaced on the same visit. He also diagnosed the second built-in refrigerator's problem as a Freon leak and recommended against having it fixed. One of the ovens in our kitchen was also not working properly. He quickly diagnosed the problem and has ordered a replacement part.

He assessed the problem and explained the repair--what he would do and how much it would cost in parts and labor. He finished his work and cleaned up in about 90 minutes. He is honest, cheerful, conscientious, professional; and far less expensive (though better) than Sears or other national chains. If I have any appliance needing repair, I will call no one else but Ben. Superb.
