The person showed up at my house with an attitude. He said he is the owner. If so, what's the attitude for? You should be polite and courteous to survive in this competitive business. He was rude and so obnoxious I wanted to throw him out of the house but I patiently waited for him to tell me what's wrong with my air conditioner. He gave me an estimate for $1,400! I told him I'd like to get a second opinion since the estimate is so high. Obviously he didn't like it and asked for more than $80 (which was quoted) to diagnose the problem. I showed my dissatisfaction by telling him I'm not too happy with the service and in response he was defiant and extremely rude. I later fixed my air conditioner by calling another company that charged me $250. Compare $250 with $1,400!! I complained about the company to Better Business Bureau and when BBB asked the company for a response he (the owner) made up a ridiculous false story to avoid responsibility. Air conditioners/Heaters often stop working suddenly and many people don't have the time to check references before calling someone. This is why some companies take advantage of the situation. Please next time talk to your neighbors and friends, read reviews before calling a company. Do not ever call Columbia Heating and Cooling. There are many companies available in Columbia, MO area.

He is vary charming up front. Hangs out with Carl Edwards etc. Probably needs to rip off people to lead that life style.
Description of Work: He replaced a value ,capacitor and coils. Our house is only 5 years old. I am concerned they actually sabotaged our air conditioner. Two weeks later it is not working again. He even showed us is gun.

I made the mistake of finding this provider through a Google search rather than using a reliable search engine like Angie's list. Anyone considering contacting this company should be aware that this company has had 13 BBB complaints in the last couple years. I recently filed another complaint, making the total 14. When I contacted this provider, I was looking to have our AC and furnace cleaned in addition to having the system inspected prior to listing our house. After the service provider showed up, he attempted to inform me that the charges would be approximately $1700 dollars to clean the units and replace "faulty" parts. He actually itemized each piece of the furnace and AC unit. Rather than giving a price to clean the entire unit, he had approximately 15 parts for both units listed on his paper. He seriously wrote down a price to clean each part, despite the fact that he acknowledged it would only take 20 minutes to clean both units. When I asked him to leave his list with me, he filled out a summary sheet. He clearly did not want me to have the list, so I could call other companies. I asked him if these were typical prices, and he responded "absolutely." Recognizing that his prices did not sound right, especially since we had someone come out to fix our furnace approximately a year ago, I asked him to put everything back and declined further service. I then contacted providers who were deemed reputable on Angie's list and discovered this company has a history of price gouging, false advertising (claim they are BBB certified), and so forth. Another company came out to our house the following week and checked our units, reporting there we faulty parts. They did, however, report that he took off some caps on our AC unit, which could have resulted in a leak. I am told that these providers have a history of leaving with people's parts, so they need to return at a later date. The total cost of cleaning our units was $150, again considerably less than $1700. If this company ever showed up at our door again, I would not hesitate to contact the police. They are total crooks, and I would not ever want them near/in my home again. It is also worthwhile to mention that the service provider was a little too friendly. He kept finding excuses to touch my arm or my hand multiple times throughout the course of his visit. It made me very uncomfortable.

Dirty, rotten, low life company. My Mother-in-law was house sitting while we were on vacation. Our A/C quit working while we were gone and a neighbor gave her the magnet from the phone book with their number. They came out and charged her $75 to give a ridiculous estimate of over $600 to fix our A/C. She said she could not pay that for someplace that isn't hers. We were out of the country so our cell phones were off. It was over 100 degrees that week and they thought they had her over a barrel. Instead, she sat with a bowl of ice and a fan blowing across it to keep cool until we got home. When we got home, we called our wonderful friends at March Heating and Cooling. They came right out and changed a $20 part (the capacitor, a common thing to go out) and our house began cooling back down. Several of our belongings were ruined due to the excessive heat in the house, not to mention my mother-in-law's unnecessary discomfort, due to the liars and cheaters of Columbia Heating and Cooling trying to scam her into paying $600 for a bogus fix. I will tell everyone I know what scumbags they are. Since then I have heard others tell of similar encounters with these losers. I am glad to see everyone has given them an F rating. I wish we could run them out of business so they don't scam anyone else!

I didn't know much about air conditioners but after looking online for the prices, I have gotten completely ripped off. All they did is replace my capacitor and clean the unit with "special foam stuff." It was around 5:30 when I called them, so they charged extra for the visit, but the service charge fee was $225 and the fee to do the work was $130's. They charge $300 dollars for the capacitor and around $140 for the cleaning. They try to sell me that I needed to do another $750 dollars worth of work (i.e. check freon, replace another unit that may fail in the future but is working fine now). If only I knew the previous views looking at angie's list before I called them, this never would have happened. It is ridiculous how some of the HVAC companies aren't regulated and can just rip people off.

It was a weekend and our furnace was not providing heat. We called Columbia Heating and Air and they informed us we needed to pay an extra charge for the weekend. We understood and said we need the service. When the service man got here, he seemed annoyed that our furnace was located in the attic. He replaced 2 parts and we paid $439.83 for parts, PLUS $295.00 for the service call and labor. We found out after he left that one can buy both parts for less than $75. We called Columbia Heating and Air to complain about their overcharge and ask that they look into it, that perhaps we were charged the wrong amount for the parts. We even faxed an invoice from another company showing that we had the ignitor replaced in the past and the part cost $30. They did not care. They said they would look into it, but never called us back. We called again and they would not answer the phone. We had our heat, so we have no complaints about the actual repair, although we don't trust what was actually done to make the repair and, we don't like feeling like victims of price gouging. Will NEVER use them again.

Things didn?t go well. It seems that they way over charged for the work they did. They replaced things that didn't need replaced and didn't ask if I wanted it replaced. I would not recommend using this company.

Coldest night of the year. Heat wasn't working. Called to have somebody come out and light pilot light. Said they'd be there in 45 minutes. Called back to cancel within 5 minutes. Company wouldn't cancel. Technician showed up 20 minutes later and wanted $225 for driving to our house. We were threatened with the police if we wouldn't pay. Columbia is a small town, there is NO way the guy didn't get the cancellation in a timely fashion.

They misdiagnosed a small hole in our coil and told us we needed a new air conditioner. We were stupid and didn't get a second opinion, and went ahead and ordered a new air conditioner for a bill of $6415. Later that evening a friend of ours came over and pointed to the hole in our coil, a problem that could be fixed for a couple hundred dollars. We called to cancel the new air conditioner and told them the problem was mis-diagnosed, and they proceeded to argue and charged us a 20% "restocking fee". The 20% charged included the labor they would have performed if they had actually installed the unit. Please avoid them! Our friend that diagnosed our problem was with Accurate...I don't know why we didn't call him first. Don't make our mistake. Stay away from Columbia Heating and Cooling as it appears they just want your money.
