Description of Work: we called to ask about getting weather stripping replaced on our skylights. None of them leak but the stripping was displaced. We asked about having someone come to the house and provide replacements. Sight unseen, we were told that if the skylights were over 10 years old they would have to be replaced (at a cost of $1500 each). Won't be calling these folks back as they didn't seem interested in fixing anything just charging a lot of money.

First, I will apologize for any misunderstanding. St. Louis Skylights "typically" does not repair skylights that have displaced components. In 26 years of experience, any repair similar to the issue described in this post is temporary in nature and does not provide the long term solution. St. Louis Skylights takes great pride in our quality and craftsmanship and do not want to charge our customers for repairs we know will not solve their problems "long term". The quote given over the phone is only a worst case estimate and should have been explained in that manner. We would be more than happy to visit the home, at no charge, and evaluate their concerns. We were just trying to set the customers expectation that repairs of old faulty skylights are not normally proven effective. Again, we apologize for the misunderstanding and will gladly visit the home for an assessment if desired.

Description of Work: Just called to find out about repairing the blinds on our skylights. |The owner answered, I proceed to explain our needs. She ask the brand I told her Sears and the measurements. |She was very short and curt informing me she only services blinds made by the manfacture she sales and could only deal with brand. |If this is the case than why did Angie's rep provide recommend her Company.I don't recall the ad read as such. |With such niche product and high end product why does she need the everyday folk? |Unless you meet the owners criteria don't call this special lady. |This just my opinion and you ask.

First, I want to apologize if the you felt our customer service was curt. We try very hard to be as positive as possible during all conversations with our potential customers. I also apologize if we mislead this customer in any way. The customer was not speaking with the owner; the owner is a male and does not normally answer the phones. However, as to the main concern with our inability to provide a solution...we are a Velux 5-star installation company stocking Velux materials. It is virtually impossible to be an expert with every manufacture of shades and blinds while still providing the quality service we demand. I appreciate the customer comments but like most professionals, we specialize in one product line and provide outstanding support while doing so; as evident in our reviews. Just as an HVAC company specializes in one manufacturer or Window Company that only services one company....we are very similar. I am also puzzled because in almost all cases, when we cannot solve the customer shade issues, we refer them to a couple of readily available companies that may. We do have a new customer service representative that may not been aware so I certainly appreciate the opportunity for improvement. If this customer desires, I would welcome a return call so that maybe we could point them in the direction that could resolve their concerns....simply ask for the President of St. Louis Skylights and I will address your concerns personally.

Description of Work: Replaced two skylights. They were great. Here on time, price was good. The young man who was doing the work opened up the roof and there were a billion carpenter ants in there. He was such a trooper. Cleaned it all out, replaced the wood, treated the ceiling. Did an amazing job. I would highly recommend them.

I worked with Gerry and Jeff to get the order placed and the work scheduled. I was under the impression both skylights would be taken care of at the same time. However, when the scheduled install day came, only one person showed up for the retro-fit and he knew nothing about the new skylight install. The retrofit went well, the installer made sure to keep the interior clean and he was out of here after about 4 hours of work. I was happy with the results. Trying to find out the date for the new install was somewhat difficult. It took a couple emails and phone calls to finally get them pinned down. I wasn't given an explanation for the delay, but since I wasn't really inconvenienced, I let it go. The new install took 3 days to complete, primarily due to having to cut ceiling and roof, and frame in and drywall/mud/paint the skylight shaft. The wait time was for drywall mud to dry, nothing I feel was unexpected. I got the results out of this that I was looking for, really adding quite a bit of natural light to the area. My only complaint is that they could've done a better job cleaning up as there was insulation and other debris on stairs next to the install area (they kept it pretty clean directly underneath), I found nails and screws in my driveway and on the front porch and there were quite a few spots of drywall dust on my black asphalt driveway. Overall, the experience was positive because of the end result and I would use them again, but the communication could've been much better and some of the installers need to be a bit more diligent in post work cleanup.

We talked with Jerry at his store and saw the sun tunnel display. The installer arrived promptly. The entire installation took less than 1 hour and he cleaned everything in a timely manner. Installing a sun tunnel is a relatively inexpensive and easy way to bring light and brightness into a second story hallway. I wish we had done this years ago. We will be using Jerry and St. Louis Skylights again in the near future.
Description of Work: We had a sun tunnel installed at the top of the hall stairway. The installer suggested a location and even though it wasn't where we had initially thought, his idea was perfect. The tunnel makes an incredible difference in the brightness of the second floor of our house and some of the light even filters down the stairwell into the entry hall.
