Description of Work: They installed carpet in the lower level family room and bedroom. The installers did an exceptional job to the extent that I am sorry I did not have Home Depot install the wood floor on the main level(used a friend of a friend, big mistake). The guys from Home Depot were professional and accurate. No hidden extra costs. Amazing Job.

carpet installation

This experience was an example of poor project management (PM) and overuse of subcontractors. I worked with the Chesterfield Home Depot 1 month in advance of my installation. I had carefully selected the carpeting and the padding which I wanted. The padding for the basement room was different than the padding for the upstairs rooms, as was the carpet. I made it clear that I had hard installation dates, since the house was being painted first, then the carpeting, and then all of our furniture would be arriving and unloading as part of a cross country relocation move. I emphasized this during every call, since the relocation dates were set to a job start. 1.) Home Depot (HD) scheduled the measurement subcontractor to come for the measure. I explained to HD each room we would carpet. They outsourced measurement to a company and the worker came on time. I didn't know he was a subcontractor - he did not give me a business card and HD didn't mention this. I walked him around the house, showing the areas to be carpeted, carefully pointing out that it included everything but kitchen, hall, and dining room. I stood there while he used a laser device to measure each room. I escorted him to each room. He told me when the report would come., directing me back to HD and the PM. I said which carpet I wanted where, and which pad. 2.) After this I called the HD PM to verify everything, she didn't have the report yet. I said which carpet I wanted where, and which pad. This person did not speak English as a first language, and I felt concerned about whether they actually understood what we had carefully planned. 3.) The actual measurement document never did come to my in-box from the measurement person. Days after it was promised, 14 pages of boilerplate contract on HD paper, which had rooms labeled in terms which seemed obscure. A day later a different version, 12 pages, arrived in my mailbox (snail mail). I called the PM, reiterating the rooms and the pads and I thought we had it straight. ish. 4.) Installation day arrives, and the next subcontractor arrives to install the carpet. Only there is a problem right away - the pad for the basement (18'x18' room) shows up as an enormous roll. The more expensive 1/2and quot; Scotchguard pad we'd already paid to have entire upstairs done shows up as - you've guessed it - a modest 18' long roll. I am so glad I was there to see it before they got started, and knew what the pads looked like visually! I told them to not even bother unloading it - did they have any Scotchguard in the warehouse? Thank goodness the subcontractors were able to source it locally, and it set them back about 2 1/2 hours to switch it out. The men are finally started now with the correct materials 2 1/2 hours late into a long day. 5.) Everything goes fine and I think we're finally out of the woods when I notice it seems the Berber carpet supply (upstairs) is running a bit low. I start asking questions, and it turns out that the subcontractor in 1.) had left out my 18'x14' family room - the room we spend the most time in every day. 6.) I go back to the PM, who directs me to reread the paperwork, which is now yet another version in the portal. THAT version now includes the family room, the version they sent initially did not (I downloaded and date stamped) nor did the version from 3.) I decide I'm fed up with the PM, and escalate to the manager for all escalations. She explains the measurement subcontractor made a mistake with omitting the family room (I saw him measure it), and that the PM made a mistake by switching the carpet pads. She is sorry. I won't use them again because no one took responsibility for my carpeting job. At every juncture I called and proactively communicated, and yet the subcontractors made mistakes, which the project manager didn't correct, and they also didn't understand enough English to understand me.
Description of Work: The job was to 1.) measure, 2.) order 3.) schedule and 4.) install a carpet pad and carpeting in a 1900 sq foot house, plus one room in the basement.

When I purchased this service I was told that it was a two-day job, so I planned my move accordingly. When the flooring installation guys came they told me it would be a three-day job. I had to move on the third day so I decided to install the quarter rounds myself afterwards, instead of they doing it. They worked for two days and finished the job except the quarter round installation. The quality is good. The price was quite high for this service but since I had to move by a certain date I didn't have time to shop around.
Description of Work: I had Home Depot put in new hardwood floors. They subcontract this to other providers. I purchased all the materials from Home Depot and transported them myself.

To make a long story short, I researched and ordered one, found out it wouldn't fit in my space and had to order a different one. Dealt with 5 different associates at the store. ALL FIVE were EXTREMELY knowledgeable, helpful and pleasant to work with. They were there to get me a product that would meet my needs without a hard sale. No commission for them, just pride in their product and store. I would be willing to pay a little more to have them behind me!

We contracted with Chesterfield Home Depot for a remodel of a kitchen, powder room and bar area because we liked their design better than other companies. They promised us that their installers were the best, but we soon discoverd that they apparently subcontract with whoever has the lowest bid and then charge you a high amount. We did not accept their bids for the electrical and flooring work as their bids for those items were twice as high as highly rated Angie's List providors we had used previously. The jobs done by the companies we hired for flooring and electrical were flawless. The person whom Home Depot sent to do the demolition put a deep scratch along the side our refrigerator, destroyed the vent to the dryer, pulled the cabinet out of the bathroom without removing the door, resulting large gouges in a solid wood door, and worst of all, threw our baseboards that had been installed by a master carpenter into the garage and threw old cabinets on top of them. We had specfially asked him to be careful with those as we were reusing them and had asked him to put them in our basement. The project manager we had been assigned only came once to the job site at the beginning. We had to call him constantly and he seemed to be uninterested in our job. We told Home Depot we did not want the demolition person to do the install after such careless work, so they sent 2 other people who did do acceptable work in installing the cabinets. While we contracted for our own electrical and flooring, they told us it would be better to have their plumber come as there was not that much plumbing to be done and they could schedule it sooner. We went along with that and a man from Show Me Plumbing (their subcontractor) came to install the plumbing. That's when he discovered that the pipes should have been moved over in the walls before the cabinet and countertop install. Since our project manager was never around and took no interest in the job, he had failed to schedule a plumber to come in and move the pipes over. We now had expensive granite countertops permanently installed, so after much discussion they decided to cut into the walls and try to move the pipes that way. They did that and closed up the walls. During all of this I bought a new faucet and decided to have my own plumber install it while I was waiting for them to finish the job. When he came and opened the kitchen cabinet he was horrified at what he saw. He told me that nothing they had done met code. I then asked Home Depot why they had never had the plumbing inspected as I had paid for a permit. They told me the plumbing was only inspected after everything was done. I called the St. Louis County Inspector's office and found out that they should have had the rough-in pipes inspected before they closed the walls. They opened the walls and the inspector came and failed their work. It turned out that they had done several things wrong including having an apprentice do the work unsupervised which is a violation of code. So they sent the master plumber and he did the work over. The inspector came again and failed his work! That was when I told Home Depot I was hiring my own plumber and expected a credit on my bill for his work. They became very upset and told me I couldn't do that. I called the county inspector's office and they told me that legally I did not have to let their plumbers back in my house because they had failed inspection, not once but twice. After I told Home Depot that they agreed to let my plumber do the work (a highly rated Angie's List provider). This whole thing from start to finish took two and one half months when they had given me an estimate of 3 weeks. Our entire life during this time was consumed with fighting with Home Depot over this job and of course during most of this we didn't have a working kitchen or bathroom on the first floor of our house. Both my flooring and electrical contractors told me that everyone they had worked for who hired Home Depot came to regret it. Well they were certainly right about that. We will not even go into a Home Depot store after this experience. They have excellent displays and slick salespeople, and that is where they spend their money. The install job they provide for you is apparently given to whoever will do the work for the least money. I wish now I had just been my own contractor and hired all Angie's List providers and managed the job myself, because I ended up doing that anyway. This was one horrrific experience so steer clear of any big box store for this kind of work.

Overall, it went really well. I first went to the store to pick out the tile I wanted. Then, I had to schedule someone to come out and measure the area. The person who measured it then sent the list of needed materials to Home Depot so that they could come up with the total price. After that, I came back to the store for the final price, picked out the grout color and determined what things I would do myself(remove old carpet and baseboards)and what I wanted the installer to do. After everything was finalized, Home Depot ordered the materials. When they all came in, the installer called to make an appt. for the installation. I was able to get an appt. within a week from the call, and the job was completed in a day and a half. Again, I was very happy with the outcome. It took a little while to get all the materials together, but I was happy to be able to make the installation appt. pretty quickly once it all came in. The work was very good, and the installer worked non-stop the first day to get everything laid down. The second day, the grout went in, as well as the trim around the area. It looks really good!

The Home Depot salesman, Paul, was great at explaining the product, process of installation, and steps prior to completion. The door installers were also great to work with and, I feel, did a great job of installation.
Description of Work: We purchased 2 Anderson French patio doors from Home Depot and contracted with Home Depot to have their subcontractors install them. We supplied preliminary measurements and the installers carefully checked them and advised us on other trim items which would be needed to complete our custom job. After the doors were received (on time), the installers called to schedule a mutally agreeable date for installation. They showed up on time, worked quickly, efficiently and neatly, and finished ahead of schedule.

We started the whole door replacement process last October. Unfortunately, we didn't get our doors in until mid-January. It took several weeks to get the door measured and for us to find out what door would work. Every time we called or stopped by the store, everyone was nice, but no one seemed to be able to help us but, Tom and he was hard to get ahold of. To make a long story short, it was supposed to take 3 weeks to get the doors in, but someone forgot to order the doors and then when they did come in, they were broke at the threshold. They offered us a discount if we took the broken doors, but we just wanted to have a door that was not broke that was the whole reason the old one was being replaced. Since we didn't take the broken door, the original doors had to be reordered. The whole experience was somewhat stressful b/c after moving into a new house we couldn't use these doors for 3 1/2 months and cold air was seeping through the whole time we waited. Very disappointing.

When the installers came to install the new microwave, they said (after removing the old microwave) that they could not install the new one because of a small piece of backsplash tile in the way. They said the microwave would not lay flat against the wall. They said we could remove the tile and then call back to have them install, but there was a huge vent hole in our kitchen and we didn't want to wait another week for them to come out with cold air coming into our kitchen. We told them we would remove the tile and install the microwave ourselves.

Although every employee I dealt with in the store was knowledgeable, helpful, and professional, this project has been an 8-month long disaster. The door came in damaged, for which they offered and I accepted a reasonable discount. The special order door handle came in the wrong finish so after waiting another month, I purchased a Ballwin set. The installers hung the door so crooked that the latch wouldn't hold when the wind blew and you could actually see daylight at the top. When they returned to reinstall the door, they broke the Ballwin lock set, claiming it was defective. They also had to order a different threshold because the one they had didn't cover the gap. The installers repeatedly cancelled appointments, always after the time they were supposed to arrive, so I had already made arrangements to be home. Last time they cancelled after their arrival time because the threshold they ordered was again the wrong width! I am still waiting!
Description of Work: I purchased a special-order leaded glass exterior door, & handle & lock set, plus installation.
