Chesterfield Fence & Deck Company

After numerous changes in the installation date and changes in the style of the fence, both on my wishy-washy part, the work crew came out and professionally and cleanly completed the job in one day. I will say that looking at this fence, I am quite happy that I didn't go with the cheaper alternative I found. The wood used by the company that had quoted me $1800 was not as nice, and given my questioning about installation I don't think it would have been installed with the workmanship of this one. Sometimes it is just worth it to pay a little more to have the job done right. Also, Mr. Uhrig and the lady at the office who does the scheduling are both highly professional, and were easy to work with. I also should add that I had a home improvement company come out and give us a bid, and it was slightly higher than Chesterfield Fence's, so I don't think their prices are all that high, esp. given that you get a great end product.

Dawne came to our house and gave us an estimate. She walked around the backyard and really helped us to picture the fence. She then came inside and showed us samples and pictures of various woods and styles. We had never put in a fence before and she made it very easy! We got a call one evening from them saying they had a cancellation, and would we like to have it done early. We said yes; the morning of the scheduled installation, it was storming, and they called us first thing and pushed it back to the next day. Three men came to do the installation. My husband attempted to show them the schematic of the sprinkler, but they said they did not need it. Unfortunately they hit the sprinkler 5 times! We were warned that this could happen; however, we were disappointed that they did not attempt to listen to us when we described the location of the sprinkler (they did not speak a lot of English). They were finished by 3:00 PM.

We needed to fence our small backyard, for our dog. I requested bids from 4 companies from Angie's List, received 2 bids, and then had a delay (we weren't as ready as I thought). In February, it was time to pull the trigger, but I knew my quotes had expired, plus I wanted to add a second gate. Dawne had my 6-month-old quote at her fingertips, and updated it as requested and sent it to me by email. Shortly after that, we scheduled the final visit, the fence perimeter was staked, direction of gate openings determined, etc. and the first payment was made. They confirmed a construction date, showed up on time and got everything done beautifully in a single day. I'm really glad I didn't put this fence up myself, and I'm glad I chose Chesterfield Fence and Deck.

They provided an estimate that turned out to be over $1000 more (on an approximately $2000 job) than any of the other 3 companies that came to my house. If you are considering using them, make sure you get a second quote.

I didn't think they cleaned up very well. They did not meet my expectations. I have seen other examples of their work which set those expectations. I thought they could have been more professional. But to be honest, I would probably use them again

They were very nice and very professional. We needed a survey to make sure borders were correct and referred a great surveyor. Everything went great. The fence was completed in 6 hours. They followed up to make sure everything was still great after the service was completed. They were not pushy and did not attempt to sell me anything more than what I asked. They discussed all options with me prior to starting and exercised extreme patience. I interviewed 7 total companies and they were the best in every aspect. They even cleaned up well after themselves and made sure no tot mess up the lawn. I have recommended them to several people. This is the way a company should treat their customers.

We actually signed the contract in Nov and due to unforeseen challenges around building codes, neighbors, etc, the work was finally started AND completed today! Yes, they finished in 1 day - start to finish - and our yard is beautiful! The crew was astonishing to watch, very professional and when a couple of snags occurred they dealt with them immediately. They were polite, friendly and kept a positive attitude even with the bumps. We are very pleased with our new fence!

This company's work was exceptionally satisfactory and extremely professional. My fence had been disputed by the people who lived behind me, and my attorney had asked me to reposition the back fence as an insurance policy to offset any further repercussions from these neighbors. Ben Brown, the company's consultant, was aware of my situation. He directed the work from start to finish smoothly and without any hitches. The office, workmen and everyone I dealt with from Chesterfield Fence & Deck Co.was accommodating to my schedule. They took care of everything effortlessly. I did not have ask them about liens or wavers or guaranties. They seemed to know what one would expect from "professional" work. I cannot commend this company enough. I am so glad that I hired them (thanks to Angie's List). I would certainly recommend them to others. And I would definitely hire them again. In fact, I intend to.

The salesman goes into great detail on how the deck will be built the materials used etc. The new deck is beautiful and is very solid.

From the first meeting with the sales representative, Chesterfield was the most organized and professional company we dealt with. They came to our home to measure the site, discuss potential problems, show us wood samples, and discuss all our options. I was very confident that all the bases had been covered. Contrary to what I'd been led to expect, their estimate was competitive (other estimates were $6500 and $10,000 for comparable materials). They couldn't come install the fence until 6 weeks later, but their time estimate was accurate. They were knowledgeable about the fence permit policies for my town and made sure to be compliant. The workers were efficient and courteous; they put up the fence in 2 days and cleaned up after themselves. I was happy with the experience overall--with this company you can be sure everything will be handled smoothly and professionally.

It took them a while to get to us, but once they got to us they did an excellent job. They were quick, neat, and clean. I would give them an A minus, because they should call you and explain why they didn t come out right away.

Well, it took them 5 weeks to come out, but they let me know they were busy in advance. When they managed to come out they were punctual from the get go. I found them extremely professional and I would recommend them to others. They work fast and clean up well. I was very happy with them.

I rescued a German Shepherd found after hurricane Katrina so I needed a fence. I called four other companies and received the best price from them. They did a beautiful job. My fence looks great and my dog is able to run and be safe!

They did a great job and were efficient and reliable. They were professional and gave us quality work and made sure the job site was cleaned up afterward.

In June, we signed a contract to have them redo our deck because we needed a place to put our hot tub. We gave them 12,000 down payment, which represents a third of the price. They have not done the work and have not returned my calls. We are taking legal action.

The estimate was competitive and they did a good job. It took a while to get the deck up to code, and it took lots of call on my part. We are pleased and the price was good.

The only complaint I have is that they would not honor their $250 discount which they offered.

I found the exact fencing for which I had been searching at the Chesterfield Fence booth at the home show, (my sole purpose for attending said event). The salesman followed up soon after to set up an appointment. After we signed the contract I was informed that I would have to pull the permit from the city of St. Louis. Add $70.00+ and 2 hours to the cost of the job. We met the installers and tried to go over the project to insure that they understood what was expected. This was not easy as neither of the gentlemen was remotely fluent in English and my Spanish is virtually non-existent. We finally discovered that the drawing was not accurate to what I had specified so parts of the project went on hold until more materials could be ordered. I also had to explain to the men that the top of the fence should be level to the eye and not follow the dips in the yard. The gate locks were attached to the house and garage with 2"x4"'s which we removed and repaired. Add $15.00 + 2 hours.

It went badly, was to be a 3 day project that went on for over 3 weeks. They short changed us on the work: substituted materials for deck frame & did not apparently know how to correctly install the product. Steps to both the porch & deck were installed without proper support & were dangerous. Verbal requests for correction were ignored, had to contact the material vendor & have them relay back the specifications to the installer. After complaints were acknowledged, the deck foreman (Lee) came out twice and lied to us promising corrections, most were never done & rest weren't done as promised. Paid for several extras that were not installed (custom porch landing, access door under deck, and deck skirting) that were significantly lesser substitutions of what we paid for. Crew picked up & left without saying anything with several things left incomplete. They intentionally left trash in yard & swept waste materials into newly planted grass. Damaged newly installed asphalt driveway.

Salesman Rob Weaver was always late for appointments and constantly increased his quote. Also considerably marked up price on additional 20 feet of fence which added almost $1000 to order after aggravating neighbor by failing to remove old fencing by requested & promised date. Company has internal communications problems which delayed installation and promised to coordinate with other contractors yet failed to do so causing many scheduling headaches. Company lacked attention to detail during installation as requested for actual fence & gate layout installed totally opposite of our order. Some items were simply not installed and sales rep. did not show as requested to walk installation crew through details of the installation. Company did fix, but made us feel guilty for asking for the corrections to be made as we ordered and some corrections were left uncorrected as refencing 1/4 of the job for appearance was not practical. Initial verbal requests for fixes simply ignored.

We had fence damage and we were out of town. We called them to come out for an estimate. He was notified by the city that he had to had a permit to do the work - nice of him to do on his own time. We were out of town during the whole thing and we had to do all of this sight unseen. Pricing was very fair. They did an excellent job, cleaned up after themselves. A job well done.

The work went well and they got the job done, in one day. We had a problem with the lock on one of the gates. We called and they came right out and replaced the lock with a new one.

Overall the experience with them went great. I had some initial questions about the railings/posts on the drawings...on exactly how big the sections should be...but the workers were able to create them to look very even on my oddball sized deck (13 feet by 19 feet with an additional 7 foot by 5 foot landing). They even accommodated me by "threading" through the posts and railings some low voltage lighting wire for my future lights that will go on some of the posts. The whole process just took 4 days and I have a beautiful new deck!

The work went well, the pricing was questionable!

The salesman gave us a bid on the spot, and adjusted it when we decided to add a six-foot section and have 1" picket spacing instead of 2". They followed up by having the utilities marked, and called to schedule the installation. They explained everything in detail, and completed the whole job in half a day. Cleanup was good. They promptly sent a lien waiver in the mail after the job was complete, and paid in full.
