They were working by 8am and done by 3pm on a considerable size yard and even hit rock on 50% of the post holes. The were nice, professional, and did a great job. My fence is such a straight line it's pretty remarkable. They installed the gates exactly where I said. Very satisfied. A+++

Swimmngly, the Rep did her job, kept us up to date, and the repairmen were professional in all senses of the word. I am exceptionally pleased by how well they matched the old fence and can recommend them to anyone!

I had this company install a deck several years prior, but this was my first experience with fencing. From the moment I met with Andy Boedeker, the sales rep for the company, I knew I was going to have a very positive experience. He was kind, patient, informative and demonstrated a great sense of humor. He came to our property several times to be sure I was fully informed about options and the advantages and disadvantages of each type of fencing. Andy assisted me in developing a more useful design to our existing fencing - one that would better complement the house, existing deck and showcase the beauty of the wooded land behind the house. I was encouraged to visit the showroom (which I did) and was pleased with the staff there as well. They gave me a lot of time and attention and worked to educate me about the various options available to me. Andy was also very helpful in guiding me through the permit process and even reminded me to check with my HOA - something I would have forgotten to do and this helped me to avoid a very costly mistake. The company had several financing options; the path I chose was simple and easy. The office staff was also very supportive and helpful and worked in tandem with the sales staff. Becky Niebrugge (office staff) contacted me ahead of time and outlined the installation process step-by-step. I never felt lost or uninformed. On the day of installation, the crew supervisor reviewed the plans to be sure that we were both on the same page. They asked for my preferences along the way (e.g., hardware facing in or out; gates swinging in or out; how to negotiate around a retaining wall for the best aesthetic, etc.). They worked diligently and professionally; they cleaned up well after the job was done. The final product exceeded my expectations and I can summarize their work in one word, heard by friends, family and neighbors after they saw the fence, "Wow!" I would highly recommend Chesterfield Fence and Deck!

Updated as of July 20, 2014 (scroll further to see ORIGINAL DETAILS of project that began October 2013): · Instead of focusing on finishing our job as contracted, the CF&D Forman wanted to be sure that ??we were still willing to update our Angie?s list review after they spent so much time and money trying to satisfy us?. Here?s your update?. · Six weeks ago, we were told that the job would be ?finished in two weeks? The job is still not done. Here is our updated ?punch list? (so far that we are smart enough to see for ourselves)?. o Cupped, cracked & splintered deck boards need to be replaced, sanded, oiled. o Cupped, cracked & splintered deck fascia boards need to be replaced, sanded, oiled. o Hidden deck fastening clips missing. o Hidden deck fastening screws missing. o Hidden deck fastening screws need to be tightened. o Column bases need to be ?free floating? which will allow these bases to be secured at the perfect level in the future once the concrete patios are installed. o Gazebo Fan landing base needs to be created and installed. o Gazebo Fan needs to be installed. o Lower Deck electrical duplex GFCI receptacles (X 2) on separate circuits. o Unsightly area where support beam meets deck and post. o Railing post screw head broken off. o Railing post inside gazebo at door needs to be vertically/plumb adjusted. o Railing post is cap is missing. o Railing post caps to be ?glued? on. o Spackle all holes and seams for fiberglass and PVC columns and trim that are not maintenance-free. o Prime all fiberglass & PVC columns & trim that are not maintenance-free. o Two coats of paint on all spackled and primed fiberglass and PVC columns & trim that are not maintenance-free. o Install screen under gazebo. o Owners Manual for LED lighting Control System. o Instructions on how to use LED lighting Control System including key fob. o Lien wavers for all involved once job is completed. · CF&D?s Marketing Department called wanting to take photos to be used in future advertisements. They were completely unaware that the job wasn?t even completed yet. While this guy was extremely apologetic for all of the problems we have been experiencing, he assured me that he would speak with someone about this and then would be back in touch on a future date to discuss taking pictures. It has been three weeks since that conversation occurred. Prior to that conversation, we had a crew of several workers. Since then, we only have one man working on our job. · Our entire work crew for the last two weeks consisted of one man, Rick. · Our entire one-man crew was pulled from our job on two different occasions because it was apparently more important to do something for other Chesterfield Fence & Deck jobs than to finish our job. · While our Foreman took some vacation time over the Independence Day break, a substitute Foreman removed our ?crew? from our job because he had another job (apparently more important than ours) that needed attention. · Upon his return from vacation, our Foreman told me that he wanted to ?wrap this job up before the weekend?, yet was not aware that there is still so much work left to be done. Within ten minutes of ending that conversation, the Foreman showed up on our job site. Next thing we were told is that our one-man crew would need to be pulled off our job to work on another one of their jobs (which was apparently more important than wrapping up ours). · We were BAITED in the CF&D Showroom with beautiful maintenance-free columns, caps and bases that were color-matched to our house. Instead, without discussing this with us, CF&D SWITCHED and forced us to live with their decision to use fiberglass and PVC columns, caps and bases that are not maintenance-free chosen by CF&D even though they had no experience using them. Even though our one-man crew, Rick?s single-handed efforts did dramatically improve the look of the columns beyond our expectations, we don?t appreciate being the ?guinea pig?. Gaining experience with new materials and construction concepts should occur on CF&D?s own time with CF&D?s own money?..not our time and our money. · Our one-man crew, Rick, is an exceptional worker in every way. He is cordial, considerate, concerned, patient, creative, and a good communicator. As luck would have it, he has proven to be a very good all around worker and trim carpenter, which is beneficial since he appears to have figured out how to successfully install Tigerwood boards that don?t immediately cup and split. CF&D may want Rick teach other crews at CF&D how to do this as it may save CF&D time, money and customer frustration and dissatisfaction in the future. · CF&D?s lack of communication cost us extra money not in our budget to install a beam under the gazebo that was necessary since the deck was improperly designed by their engineers. · CF&D?s lack of communication cost us extra money not in our budget to repair landscaping that was disturbed due to CF&D not listening to us when we told them EXACTLY where underground utilities existed. ORIGINAL DETAILS: The project began in October of 2013 and is still not complete (as of 6/1/2014). Communication has been poor. We were given false information often due to lack of their knowledge. Lack of adequate supervision on the job site. On day one we asked about dig rite and who should call them. We were told they would do it. We specifically pointed out where the gas line was (exactly because the landscaper had just hit it and had it repaired)! On day 2 they started digging for piers and hit the gas line. Hadn't called dig rite, yet. Their own engineer drew up our plans incorrectly resulting in an 8 foot dimensional error. Also, they failed to design the gazebo structure properly according to local codes, resulting in an extra $850 charge to us to add a large beam to support it. Beam was cut into columns and left unfinished. Detail work on gazebo was not planned out, yet we were shown columns in their showroom and told that would be what we would get. They didn't design in the columns we agreed to and tried to pass off other lesser materials in their place. These lesser columns were not even installed per manufacturer's recommendations. After many problems building the gazebo, we were finally told it was their first elevated, screened in gazebo they had done. They made decisions on colors without giving us options (despite our repeated requests to see our options). They tried to pass off this mistake to us by saying we had no other color options. It took months of arguing with them before they told us that the wrong color had already been ordered and cut to size. We informed them 5 months ago that there were shingles missing from the gazebo roof. This was during our very snowy winter. They still have not repaired the roof. We have no idea what damage has been incurred from that. Electrician ran electrical for fan and outlets in gazebo as well as lighting, but nothing is hooked up. Box for lights was left on the ground and has been sitting there during snow and rain. There are no gutters on the gazebo, so we are having erosion problems below the gazebo from water running off the roof. There is no screen under the floor of the gazebo so we have had wasps and other insects inside it. Some spots where screen is tucked is not done well, but we were told that is typical. Railing on stairs are installed too low so we can't seal and maintain the wood. Bad boards were not pulled out before installing (per manufacturer's recommendations) so we have many splintered cupped and split boards, which is not typical of Tiger Wood. Tiger Wood was not stored properly on site and left to sit directly on the ground in the sun for months before installing them. Most facia boards and many others are split from incorrect installation. Many screws throughout the deck were never installed, making boards pop up. Screws on the railings were stripped/broken off and left that way. They repaired siding while we were away but did not note whether or not there was damage behind the boards they removed before adding siding. The contract specifically states that they would do an inspection report and we could have damage repaired before moving forward. Some of the vinyl siding "repairs" included using sheet metal screws to secure siding to the house. There are gaps between the pieces of siding because they didn't overlap properly. We have gone through multiple sales guys, crew and lead crew members. The last meeting on May 9th was with yet another new guy in charge of our project. He agreed with all of our grievances. yet we still sit here with no additional progress. We are still trying to work with Chesterfield Fence and Deck to finish this project to our satisfaction. We will continue to update this review.

The initial and follow up meetings with Kevin were great, I highly recommended him as a sales rep; prompt, nice, knowledgeable, and not pushy. The fence even looks great. At first their was a minor, fixable issue of a gate latch not working correctly and it was not fixed right away. After contacting different people at the company for about a month then putting a review on here about the situation the issue was finally fixed along with my own preference of how the gate pickets should have been done. The guy that contacted me to fix the issue had the latch fixed asap, met me after work to discuss how I wanted the gate pickets done and then changed the pickets and told me to call him if I wanted it changed back to the normal way. In the end I'm a happy customer thanks to the final person that contacted me about the issues I had and fixed them to my satisfaction.
Description of Work: Began with a price quote from a great representative (Kevin Smith) who did his best to help us figure out what we wanted and for a competitive price compared to another company. They then installed 100+ ft of 6 ft Eastern Red Cedar fence and 30+ ft of 4ft standard chain link fence.

Chesterfield Fence was my first and only choice for installing a backyard fence for my new home. At my previous home I had a vinyl fence installed by another company only to discover after a few years that they were no longer in business. So a business with "staying power" was very important to me. I was impressed by the professionalism of everyone at Chesterfield Fence - the sales person, the office staff (on the phone) and the installation team. As with any new home my lot settled resulting in one gate dropping several inches and the other gate moving horizontally. This certainly was not Chesterfield Fence's fault - it just happened over time. Without hesitation Chesterfield fence addressed both problems by resetting the fence posts. This is after months have passed from the original installation. This is a firm you want to do business with!

This company was AMAZING to work with. Our sales person, Dee, took the time to explain our options. We were under a tight time constraint and she worked with us to get our fence scheduled. Then, we made some last minute changes to our plans to add additional square feet to our yard. Dee was patient and helpful to work with. The crew arrived early both days. They worked hard all day long and even stayed into the early evening to make sure our fence would be complete before our deadline. They removed EVERY piece of old fence, concrete from the old posts, shrubbery that had to be cut to get the new fence in as well as any garbage from cement bags. The crew was respectful to not tear up any of our landscaping. I highly recommend this company. We did have 2 bids and this bid was a little less than the other company. Would definitely do business with them again.

I needed to replace an old deck on my condominium. The new deck would have to be built to the specifications of the condo management. On the suggestion of a neighbor, I called Jim Schallon (Project Consultant for Chesterfield Fence and Deck). He explained the whole process that his company would go through to get the deck approved and built. The company would provide a deck plan for approval by the condo management. They would also get all necessary permits from St. Louis County government. They would tear down the old deck and haul away the debris. Then they would construct the new deck. A crew came out and completed the job in three days(April 22-24). The crew did a very capable job and I am very pleased with the finished product.

Sales man came to measure. Not professional, suggested I lie to my neighbor (who I am splitting the cost with) about cost so I could pay less than him. Waited 3 weeks to get a bid and had to call twice to get it. No follow up call at all. Called again this March to request another copy of the bid. No return phone call after a week. Called the office a second time and said I wanted a copy of the bid, but didn't want to work with the salesman assigned to me. A new salesman called and wanted to start over but warned me they were really busy and couldnt get out to bid it for a while. I threw in the towel. They dont need my business.

I had the supervisor come out and review the problems with me. I will be having someone else come out next week to repair what needs done. I'm having problems with water pooling on my deck, and they're supposed to be sending someone else out to fix it. I've spent a lot of time planning this and making this happen, but now I'm seeing a lot of difficulties and problems. As of now, I am very frustrated. I feel like there is very little communication going on between the individuals doing this project, and that is a problem with me because I feel like they are being unresponsive to my needs in certain ways. The supervisor that came and looked into my problems is the only one that I feel comfortable with, and that's because I requested specifically that he come and look at everything.

Although it was not the least expensive bid I received, I selected this company for my roof and deck project based on its reputation and confidence of completing work as negotiated. Once the contract was signed communication was constant burden best unless I self-initiate a conversation. Others know that I am usually not the type to complain. However, since the beginning of the project stretched my patients many times with delays, work stoppages, lack of communication, misdirection, misinterpretation, and redirection of the initial agreement. On several occasions the project manager was reluctant to address items and specifics listed in my agreement. Work was not performed to plan and on one occasion failed city structural inspection. Pieces were only ?scabbed in? to give appearance that it was structurally sound, which resulted in rework. Several times I was compelled to argue the contents of my agreement to ensure materials used were those negotiated and not substituted to reduce builder cost. Work stoppage left tarp over the exposed back of my house and building materials blocking driveway for 3 weeks. Other stoppages resulted from material shortages and crew assignments due to and other priorities, which resulted in leaving material on lawn for several days at a time. In all this project took over 5 months (April - Sept) to complete and left us with little time to use it last summer. Regardless of what my confidence was before choosing this company I would not sign a contract with them again nor endorse the company?s performance. This project was a rather substantial investment for me and my family and fell well short of my expectations. Maybe Chesterfield should stick with just building fences. Decks and roof structures are defiantly not their niche, nor is performing to plan.

The salesperson came out and gave us a free estimate, was very professional and informative, and did not pressure us in any way. We got a couple other bids and they were competitive with Chesterfield Fence (and a little cheaper) but didn't offer any references or photos of past projects. Chesterfield was very proud of their past projects and encouraged us to "have a look". The salesperson also explained to us that ALL the work would be done with "in house" personnel and equipment. We received a copy of their liability insurance, a 20 year warranty on all materials, and 5 year warranty on labor and installation. The fencing crew arrived right on schedule in company vehicles and promptly went right to work. I was very impressed at how well the crew worked together and how efficient they were. They were very polite and respectful. The old fence was removed and the new fence installed [280' linear feet including two new gates] in one day, including hauling away the old fence in it's entirety. To be perfectly honest I cannot tell that they were even here except for the new fence. No mess, no left-over scrap, no dirt piles, nothing on my property or the adjoining neighbor's property to show they were even here. And the new fence looks great. I am very happy with the workmanship, quality of the material, attitude of the workers, and the whole Chesterfield experience. You truly do get what you pay for. I highly recommend Chesterfield Fence and Deck.

Chesterfield fence provided an excellent experience and did a high quality job. The #1 thing to remember when hiring a company to replace an existing fence, is that every, EVERY other company that I contacted wants to do the cheap thing and leave your existing concrete posts in the ground, and dig brand new post holes. The big annoyance here is that this generates a bunch of dirt which then needs to find a home in your yard or you need to pay to have it hauled out. For basically the same or lower price as the other guys Chesterfield fence yanked all of the existing concrete posts and reused the holes this left. They don't really advertise this fact for some reason, which I can't fathom as it's a real differentiator for them. Chesterfield did an excellent job communicating to us when the job would be done, and were always easy to reach if we had any questions. Their crew was efficient and professional.

The salesman, Kevin, was very professional. He came out and gave me an estimate right-away. The constructions crew was here as scheduled, and did an excellent job - they installed the deck as planned and cleaned-up after themselves. I was very impressed - the stairs are very solid - well crafted - this was well worth the extra money. They even use CAD drawings for the plans, and email communication made the process very stress-free. I would highly recommend this company to anyone wanting highest quality and the job done right the first time!!!!!

We are very satisfied with the service received. The salesman was knowledgeable about the product and explained the company's practice. We choose this company vs a "box store" because we felt were getting a better quality product and the fact that they employee the installers vs subcontracting the installation out to some unknown company. We had to wait several weeks for the fence to be installed but it was worth the wait. We were notified in advance of when the fence would be installed. They did a good job of installing the fence and it was very entertaining to watch (they move so fast when the pickets are being put in place). It was nice to see them quality check the boards as they worked and tossed aside any boards that were found to be unacceptable. However, we have requested that they replace one of the pickets that is not exactly square and shows a bit of a gap. They were understanding of our request and will fit us into their schedule, no questions asked.
Description of Work: Installed 6 foot privacy fence (cedar) in backyard.

We were very pleased with the project, from start to finish. We were impressed with the level of professionalism and pride from everyone involved. The price was one of the higher bids we got, but it was worth it. We were willing to pay the higher price because it was so important to us to have a fence and gates that we would enjoy for many years, and that would keep our dogs safe. We think we made the right choice for us, as the fence and gates are even more beautiful and functional than we had hoped for. The communication was excellent. Detailed drawings and material lists were created and reviewed with us. My impression was that more than one person reviewed the plans, and made sure that our requirements were met. For instance, Chesterfield Fence said we should use steel frames and posts for the driveway gate so that they would function well (whereas none of the other companies we got bids from had suggested this). They worked with us to come up with a new solution when our needs changed at the last minute due to our neighbors changing their fencing unexpectedly. Andy, our project manager, was friendly and punctual, and was easy to get ahold of and responsive when we had questions. He listened to our needs and helped make sure they were met. He continued to check in on us even after the project was completed to make sure we were happy with the results. Tammy, the fence project coordinator, was unusually attentive to details, and noticed things that the rest of us didn't. She was also very friendly and responsive. She was very good at communicating with us about the scheduling and about any other concerns we had. The crew who did the work were punctual and friendly, and verified with us that they understood the plan before they started working. They worked quickly, and seemed to work well together. They seemed to take alot of pride in their work. I noticed that sometimes they would stand back and look at something and decide that it wasn't good enough, and then they would redo it until they were satisfied. Whenever there was a decision to be made that they thought we might want to weigh in on, they came and talked to us. The driveway gate was a difficult part of of the project, as it was so big and heavy, and needed to swing well. It involved quite a bit of problem solving. I think it was really a fairly difficult job in some ways, but they spent the time and energy it took to get it right. The wood they used is Eastern Red Cedar. I didn't realize until they started building the fence how pretty the wood is. It is a rich reddish-colored, fragrant wood that really blends into the natural surroundings, and is a pleasure to look at for both us and our neighbors. We had put this project off for years, and feared it wouldn't turn out well, but in fact, our hopes and expectations were exceeded.
Description of Work: Installed ~72ft. of cedar fencing (6ft. high), with a 4ft.-wide gate, and a 12ft.-wide (2 x 6ft.) driveway gate.
