Fantastic company. Good people, Came when they said they would, correctly diagnosed the problem, did what they said they'd do, and charged what they said they'd charge. Very nice guys, polite and friendly. The owner came out twice. We had one question after they left, and they answered to our satisfaction. We would definitely use this company again.

We called King a few months ago because we were having trouble with our pump and the company that installed it was not responding to our calls. Josh came out and was extremely helpful. We ended up having King put in a new system. My only regret is not calling King Septic in the first place. I really cannot say enough wonderful things about them. You will not be sorry you hired this company!!!

My septic system had eroded after 40 years. This gentleman emptied it as I had requested and showed me the damage that finally had destroyed the septic ability to function (Yes after 40 years). Fortunately I had already been forced to pay a county $15,000 price tag for a new sewer construction by what is called here in Missouri as a "Neighborhood Group" who had formed to make us pay for the construction of a sewer system for a new housing development nearby. So I chose to connect to the sewer I had already invested in. King Sewer was honest and upfront with me.

Time will tell but I am so grateful I decided to get a second opinion from King Septic. The previous company hired to do some work a few months ago suggested a $20,000 solution. I have no complaints about the work they did but a new, more serious problem surfaced. When you don't have $20,000, you gather additional opinions. The owner, Paul, was so knowledgeable about our particular system, and being an inspector, he knew there were options available as well as made suggestions for the future. I was so nervous about the digging in our yard since we had just had a landscaper replace an old fence and redo landscaping a year ago. Paul made sure things were not disrupted any more than necessary.
Description of Work: Provider diagnosed the problem and informed me of options and we scheduled work. Owner was very knowledgable of our system and was the original installer many years ago. He arrived as scheduled to do the work and as the digging job proceeded he offered a less expensive option than originally anticipated and offered a guarantee that it will work.

I don't think they are very professional. They looked me in the face and lied to me. They are big in to drilling in to the septic tank to pump. They don't understand kovarik system. They are very lazy and I was charged for them to dig a 3ft. hole. I asked them to refill it and they did a terrible job at doing that. When you try to call them, you have a terrible time getting a hold of them. I would not recommend this company to anyone.

Response from KING SEPTIC SERVICE INC
King Septic first engaged the home owner with a site visit to determine which kind of system they have so that we could give them an estimate and be better prepared for the service that they needed. Our service man found that they had a Kovarik system. This system consists of a pump that rests on top of the tank, pumps the effluent through a small pipe, and discharges it to a sewer system. The pump pumps the water from inside a pump vault that is inside the tank. The only access to the tank is through a 4 inch hole over the top of the pump vault. The tank can not be cleaned properly unless you can access the outside of the pump vault. The only way to access the rest of the tank is to dig up the front of the tank to find another lid or dig up the front of the tank and sawcut a hole and install a riser for permanent access. This is common practice for this system that we have performed many times. This was explained is great detail to the owner. The owner scheduled the work and our vac truck was sent out to dig up the tank and pump it out. The tank was found not have a front lid after digging so it was our recommendation to sawcut a hole for access. The owner was charged our minimum service fee which was to be credited toward the rest of the work. This was scheduled to be completed a few days later. Our vac truck driver showed up to perform the work with another service man on his way to make the cut when we were told that they wanted the hole filled in and would schedule the work to be completed at a later date. We filled the hole in and were expecting them to call back when they were ready to have the work done. We are considered the local expert on the Kovarik system to the point that other companies send work to us because they do not understand them. We attempt to educated our customers to the best of our ability so that they can understand what system they have and the best possible ways to have them serviced. When we are notified of an upset customer a manager makes contact to try and resolve the issue. We had no idea that the home owner had any issue at the time of service or after. I would be glad to meet the owner personally on site and explain and show them how the system works. We employ a full time office manager that answers and returns all calls. I apologize if your calls were not returned in a timely fashion as that would be unusual.

On October 29th, two workers from King Septic came to my house to repair a broken line in my septic system. At the end of approximately 1 1/2 hours they pronounced the job completed, asked for payment, and left. I paid them the required $675.00 that was agreed upon prior to their arrival, I paid by Discover card. The very first time I flushed a toilet after they left, the line began leaking again in the exact same spot they supposedly repaired. I called the office later in the week and reported the problem. I was told by the receptionist that they would be out to fix the problem and make the repair. No one came, no one called me back. I called back three more times with the same results...no call back to me, no one came to my house to fix the problem and make good the repair. They will not even speak with me and have totally ignored me, taken my $675.00, and left me with the same problem I had before they came and did the so-called repair. At every opportunity I have been polite and patient. I am no longer patient and need something done.

On December 11 a site visit was made to resolve the issue. Options were presented to home owner including a full refund. Home owner chose an option that included repairing an additional leak and running a new pipe from the break down the hill. After work was completed pipes were tested for the home owner in order to show him proper performance and that it was working to his satisfaction. Home owner expressed his satisfaction after the test and completion of the repairs.

Paul was friendly and informative on the phone when I called and requested a quote. I've had septic systems before, but this is my first with an aerator. I quickly learned that the prior company (another A-Rated company on this site) only pumped the back half/third of the tank through the aerator hole, rather than uncovering the access cover to pump/clean it correctly. This convinced me to stick with King. The King crew was ahead of schedule and had the tank clean in no time. They said the tank was full of solids, which confirmed my suspicions the prior company did not do a good job. Josh and the other three employees were all courteous and answered all my questions. They did a good job installing the riser and used a three step process of tar, clay, and concrete to seal the riser to the tank. The new riser looks good and is the perfect height. I am very pleased with the service.

I used King Septic Service in my previous residents for routine cleaning as well as inspections on my previous home and on other homes I nearly purchased before purchasing my current residence. I switched to King's services after some dissapointing experiences with a couple of other companies, specifically in terms of credibility with inspections. Beware, there is a difference between a septic inspection and a septic evaluation. Many septic companies are not qualified or licensed to perform inspections, only evaluations. They will commonly mislead you into believing they are the same thing. The first time I talked to the owner of King Septic Service, I could tell instantly that he was very credible, which seems uncommon in this industry. I highly recommend hiring King Septic Service for a septic inspection prior to purchasing a home with a septic system. In my case, the small inspection fee saved me from making a very costly mistake on two other homes. King Septic Service provided the inspection with the home I am in now and after 2 1/2 years of living here, I decided to follow through with some of the lower priority recommendations that were suggested during my initial inspection such as replacing the crumbling concrete lids that were about 25 years old. They also had to order parts and did not charge me a dime until all work was completed to my satisfaction. The crew that performed the work answered all of my questions and were professional in their interactions with me, which also seems uncommon in this industry. I am very pleased with the integrity of this company and will continue using their services in the future.
Description of Work: King Septic Service installed two riser stacks to elevate the lids above grade. They also replaced 4 lids and cleaned my system.

I called three places for price quotes for tank pumping. King's price was equal to one of the other companies and more than the other, but I went with King because of the reviews on Angie's List. The worker arrived over an hour early, which I suppose could have been a problem if I wasn't home, but I was. After pumping the tank, the worker had a thorough discussion with me, telling me what kind of system I have, what he found, what a proper pumping regimen would be for my circumstances, proper tank care, etc. This type of information was what I was hoping for when I selected King for this service. In all, I was pleased.

It went very well. I have explained everything above.
Description of Work: I called King Septic Service to come and check my aerater, which had stopped working, and to pump our septic tank. A polite person answered the phone every time I called. They scheduled an appt. promptly and called on that day to tell me they were running late and would be there a little later than expected. They were supposed to call me when they were on the way to my house, but forgot. However, when they arrived, did the work of pumping out the septic tank and clearning the aerater in a timely and efficient manner. They answered my questions intelligently. Further, they followed the instructions to not park in the driveway. The invoice reflected the price I had been quoted on the phone. I will call them again the next time my septic tank needs to be pumped and I will recommend them to friends and neighbors.

Call answered right away. Set up an appointment time with no issues for when the truck was going to be in the area. Appointment was for the following week, but on the day I wanted as I was already going to be home due to some other work being done. Morning of the appointment received a call asking if they could move appointment back. Stated he'd still come at original time if I needed him too, but as I was home all day anyways I made the change. Driver showed up right at the beginning of the service window. He was very nice, respectful and took time to explain everything he'd do (we were first-timers) as well as offered advice on the dos and don'ts for a septic system. All advice was relavent and none was of the bogus nature (e.g. add septic treatment to the tank). Pumped out the tank. Cleaned it out. Said everything looked fine. Good experience. Would recommend them.

My husband and I had just recently purchased our home, which had been vacant for a couple years. We had been told three different things from three other companies in regard to our septic system, the last of which had indicated that we would need about $12,000 of work. I called King Septic after reading their other reviews on Angie's List, and my call was returned promptly. King Septic was at my house on time at 9am the very next day, ready to help. They cleaned and pumped our tank, and snaked it to remove some root build up. I knew that our aerator was busted, and I had them install a new one for me at a VERY reasonable price. They made sure our alarms/warning lights were in working order, and described in extraordinary detail how to maintain our system and what to look out for. It's really refreshing to know that there is such an HONEST and KNOWLEDGABLE company out there, like King Septic, that is high on integrity and willingness to help where they can. They literally saved my husband and I thousands of dollars, and we really appreciate not getting taken advantage of. First time homebuyers are a target for many unscrupulous companies, and I am truly grateful to King Septic for giving us a straight story. On another important note, they were not pushy and did not try to sell me anything. It seemed even as if they were almost hesitant to ask me if I in fact wanted them to put in a new aerator, even though I had previously told them I did need one. They showed me where to find operation point for the aerator, how to turn it off/on, when to turn it on, and even made sure that they labeled my breaker in my basement so we know exactly where to find everything. I will be using them indefinitely in the future for all of my septic maintenance needs. And if ever in the future I need a $12,000 job, they'll be the first ones I call, and will refer them to everyone I can.

Very Disappointing, after my first use of Angie's List. Nothing stood out as spectacular, but generally good reviews with one that sounded angry. This was a few weeks ago and I was pretty frustrated after, so I waited to add a review to be sure it wasn't emotionally driven. I have an Aerator Tank and Effluent Tank (2-stage) water treatment system. Any problems left un-corrected can quickly become an extremely costly propostion. One day I found the effluent tank overflowing. As the tan's pump has stopped before, which turned out to be a stuck float switch. Suspecting the same again, I looked on Angie's list where I found and called King Septic, setting up for them to come out the next day to pump out the two tanks. The truck arrived pretty much on time, and the driver seemed like a great guy - he was personable and professional. I mentioned that a competitor had pumped out both tanks and cleaned the effluent tank previously for $250 - to which he replied and quot;I don't see why we can't do both for the $250and quot;. Once empty enough, he checked the pump's float switch with a stick to find that the pump was and quot;shotand quot;. I explained how I planned to replace it myself, and asked that after hosing the scum off the walls - please pump the bottom of the tank dry which he agreed to (To make it easier to work in AND so that no solids would be pumped out into the drain field where it might stop up a leach pipe). I felt confident from interacting with him, so asked that he let me know when he was finished. After I paid him and he drove away, I went to attach the lid to the effluent tank and roll up the hose when I stuck my head into the effluent tank. To my surprise and disappointment I found 6and quot; of water standing in the bottom with top-scum still clinging to most of the wall area from the slow draining. The only part that had been sprayed clean was what was visible (unless you get down and peer inside). I called that day or the next and explained what had happened, and said I would like them to send the truck back out to finish pumping it dry after spraying it all out. The response: and quot;I'll send him right over.and quot; A couple hours later, instead of the pump truck, a gentleman arrived in a car - I immediately asked, and quot;Where is the truck?and quot; He told me he needed to take a look at it first. This is where the worst of the experience began. After 'taking a look' he came to the door to explain (in my words) why I was out of luck; As I calmly pleaded for him to do the right thing and finish what I was told would be done, he responded with... * First, he explained that he had no idea why the driver decided to only charged $250 - That such a job is at least $350 for two tanks and how and quot;Kingand quot; has an explicit policy to NOT match [the specific competitor]'s prices. (Not sure why he brought this up at first - I realized later he was using this 'discount' as justification for refusing to finish the job) * He proceeded to explain how the driver says he did clean it out and that it was empty when he left - He followed with how he has worked with him a long time and has never known him to say anything not true. (Implicitly, accusing me of somehow playing with the truth or even lying; I replied that luckily in this case we could resolve it with facts as I could show him the scum still stuck to the sides that he might have missed when he looked.) * He changed the subject, wrapping up by explaining how he couldn't justify burning the fuel and sending out the pump truck so many days after; That from what he saw, the job was done and in fact - it was done for a generously discounted price. In this situation where the servicer had all the power and I had no alternative but to pay more money or eat it - I was very frustrated. BOTTOM LINE - Besides impuning my integrity by implication, on two separate occasions King Septic Company said they would do one thing and then did something else... 1. When the pump-truck driver said he would leave the effluent tank cleaned and dry... And, 2. When the dispatcher on the phone said he would send the truck 'right over' and this gentleman showed up in a car. Maybe this was a bad set of circumstances and timing - I know that there are times when things just don't work out. That said, if you decide to work with these guys, just beware and protect yourself - Do NOT let them leave before verifying everything they agreed to do.

Response from KING SEPTIC SERVICE INC
We pumped the two tanks on the home owner’s property as stated in the review. Sometime after the work had been completed the home owner called stating that there was water and sludge left in the second tank and that he wanted us to come back and pump it out. Our office manager told them that we would send someone right over. He failed to mention that I would be coming by first to check on the situation. The home owner assumed we were sending the truck back out which was not specified by our office manager and for that I do apologize. I make it a point to personally address any complaints that we receive. Before heading out to meet with the home owner I spoke to our tank truck drive about what all he had done on the job. He explained that he pumped both tanks dry, rinsing them as he finished. He also mentioned that the customer stopped him before he left and gave him a “review” of the service. The home owner told him that he did a good job and cleaned out the pump tank as requested. Our driver expressed concern over the complaint since he was specifically told by the owner before he left that he had done a good job. I headed to the home owner’s house to see if we had indeed pumped the sludge out of both tanks. I knocked on the door and told the home owner that I was there to take a look at the tanks. He acted surprised that I was there in my pickup truck and not the pump truck. I told him that I was going to take a look at the tanks before our tank truck came back out and that our office man should have specified that by sending someone right over he meant me. Upon looking in the tank I discovered approximately 5-6 inches of clean water in the bottom around a new home owner installed pump, check valve, and union. I immediately called our driver and had him repeat all that he had done on the job. He had the same statement that he cleaned and rinsed both tanks completely. The tank appeared to have been rinsed out properly with no sludge visible on the walls or in the water. I used a shovel to stir up any sludge that may have settled in the water. I did not see any sludge in the water as I created turbulence with the shovel. I returned to the owner’s front door and explained that the water and the tank were clean. I also wanted to let him know that our driver had made a mistake by price matching another company and that when he needed his tanks pumped again it would be a different price. I did not want him to be surprised or upset at the price the next time he used us. I then explained that the water may have run back in there from the drainfield since the check valve had been removed for some time before the new one was installed and it had rained since we had pumped the tanks. The owner explained to me that his main concern was that there was sludge in the tank that would damage the drainfield if the new pump would pump it into the lines. The owner also said that he would show me the sludge in the tank. I stated again that I did not see any sludge but I would look at it with him. The home owner became noticeably upset at this point. I tried explaining how the water was clean and that it would not damage his drainfield. I offered his money back for pumping out the second tank. He explained that he did not want his money back but that he wanted our pump truck to come back and pump out the water. I explained that to do so there would be a charge, with a credit for the cost of pumping the second tank before, since it appeared that we had performed the previously requested service. He became very upset at this point to which I responded that I would refund his money and sign a letter stating that there was not any sludge in the water and that that water would not damage his drainfield lines. The door was abruptly shut in my face as I was explaining how I would prepare him the letter. At this point I left the property. Baffled by what has just happened, I once again called our driver for another step by step explanation of everything he had done on the property. His story remained the same as I was left concerned that our customer was upset and unwilling to except my professional opinion and diagnoses. Based on my observations the water in the tank had run back from the drainfield, run in there from the rain, and/or run in there by our driver or the home owner to test the pump after it had been cleaned out. Water in the bottom of a pump tank in my opinion would never be that clean if it had simply not been cleaned out all the way. I truly believe that both our driver and the home owner are being completely honest. My professional opinion and experience were not enough to satisfy the customer and for that I offer my apologies It was a misunderstanding that I offered a solution for that was not accepted. I stand by my offer of refunding the fee for pumping the second tank and signing a letter stating that the water that was in the tank would not damage the drainfeild lines. We provide service to over 1000 satisfied customers a year. We pride ourselves in customer satisfaction and have been providing professional and affordable service for over 60 years. Our long history as service providers in the area shows that we have experience and that we handle things in the most professional way. Sincerely, Paul Ganey President
