We are stuck with 2/3 of the tile laid, we have so many pieces that need to be pulled up (which will most likely cause them to crack and no longer be able to be used) , We still have to have the floor fixed by someone and we will be stuck buying more tiles because of all of his mistakes!
To top off all of the troubles, when Ken's workers were tearing up the old tile they did not seal off areas of the house to prevent the dust from going everywhere. Too add injury to insult while they had the house torn up with dust going everywhere they turned on the heat and spread 1/2 thick dust and dirt to every inch of the house! To all 5,000 square feet of house. Every inch, every cabinet, every stitch of linen and all of our clothing is covered!!! This is the biggest mess that I have ever seen. This will cost an extra 2,000 dollars to have all ducts and vents cleaned along with both furnaces, not to mention the days of cleaning to rid the house of the dust.
DO NOT EVER HIRE THIS COMPANY OR ANY OTHER COMPANY THEY MAY CHANGE THEIR NAME TO! Shame on you Ken and Cynthia for leaving us in this mess and walking away!!
"We deeply regret not being able to satisfy this customer. It is always our goal to fully meet our customer's needs. This project consisted of removing existing tile and substrate in the customer's lake home and then installing customer supplied tile in a complex pattern. The customer chose to not wait for the correct sized tiles to be shipped and requested that we cut larger tiles down. I thoroughly explained to the customer this could create sharp edges. The tile while beautiful and expensive varied more than 1/8" in thickness. We installed the tile and with the exception of a handful of places we had identified as needing attention the project looked great. The second portion of the customer's complaint regarding dust, is largely unfounded. Yes we created dust in our process. We had the owner move their delicate and valuable things to other areas. We covered the sofa etc and then spent hours cleaning up. What hasn't been said is that while we were doing our part, approx. 6 other contractors were demoing a rock fireplace, removing flooring and wall tile, installing tile, backsplash and sanding cabinets inside the home; all without any form of dust control. We cleaned up after ourselves and if we had been allowed to finish the project we would have totally cleaned our dust. When the owner returned I was given only two options; 1. give her $23000 to $25000 and remove all we did.or 2. guarantee she would be happy. Those options were not acceptable and I could not reason with her. The house has full time video surveillance and if someone would take the time to review all the tapes it will uphold what we believe to be true. The only resolution which seems viable is the following: The customer admits 2/3 of the tile is done. All the removal and backer board has been completed. We received one half of the money for the project and have expended all of that (and more) on materials, costs and wages for the project. We no longer trust this customer and will step away allowing them to complete the remaining 25% with someone of their choosing."
We have plans for additional decking and railing around our retaining wall...we will be calling Ken and his team again!!!
"It was a pleasure working with [member name removed] and we hope to be able to help him in his remodeling project in the near future."
room, deck, and wheel-chair ramp to our home. Owners Ken and Cindy Kubalek were outstanding in every aspect of this
job, from initial planning through ordering and timely delivery of materials, construction, accounting, and final wrap-up.
When we first discussed the addition, Ken and Cindy knew exactly what questions to ask to help us refine our plans, then gave us a very timely quote which was reasonable without cutting any corners. The survey and zoning inspection revealed problems with our initial plans, but Ken immediately suggested alternatives to obtain what we wanted?a problem-solving skill that came up several times during the project. He knows his job thoroughly, and is attentive to every detail. When the job began in
mid-January, Ken and his crew worked through cold and some bad weather to get the supports and framing up in a very short time?about ten days. Yet every step, from the concrete piers to the framing was extremely solid. Ken?s philosophy is to overbuild when in doubt, because he wants his work to last! Every aspect of this job, from the fireplace, heating and cooling, interior finish work, and exterior appearance attests to the extremely high quality of their work.
The most important quality of Contracting Plus is reliability. In addition to Ken and Cindy, who were always prompt in responding to any requests we made, every member of their crew was on the job, on time, and working hard all day.
We had heard horror stories of construction companies that would not show up for days, or whose workers would fail to appear. Indeed, it was comments from others on Angie?s List about their reliability that led us to Contracting Plus. We and our neighbors were very impressed that the work never stopped, that the workers were so motivated and excellent at their jobs, and that they seemed to enjoy working together and for Ken. Further, the crew was unfailingly polite, willing to answer any questions, and tried to respect our privacy even when working inside our house.
Efficiency is another trait of the Kubalek company. Cindy has made a science of ordering delivery of materials so that they arrive exactly when needed. Ken worked with his overseer, Cary Seddon, to plan each day?s work so that each member of the crew wasted no time. The only delay was caused by the two blizzards in February that prevented their HVAC subcontractor from making final connections?there were no delays in work by Contracting Plus and Cary was on the job even on the worst snow days.
Inevitably plans evolved as we went along, and Ken and Cindy were happy to help us make decisions, get quotes for unanticipated changes, and quickly resolve all problems very professionally.
We are delighted with every aspect of our new room and deck. Contracting Plus is an excellent company and
deserves the very highest recommendation!
"Working with this customer was a joy."
When the job finally started his crew was prompt and worked hard. This is my vacation home and I could not be in the area except for a check every couple of weeks. My neighbors kept track of the job and the crew and were extremely complimentary about how they worked and conducted themselves. Polite, considerate and respectful. Ken kept me informed by sending pictures of what was done and showed how things were going. When there were questions on how something was to be done, Ken made sure I understood and suggested good options.
The finished job is just terrific looking. My neighbors were sending me pictures complementing the job and the rate at which it was done. The crew cleaned up the area about as well as they could considering how much was hidden under the leaves! When it was all done Ken and I went over the job and made sure it was up to my standards and several small things were fixed without any complaint or pushback. YES I would use Contracting Plus again and suggest them to anybody.
