My parents always said if you can't say something nice don't say anything at all but I have to say something about TC Siding and Construction – Dan Tiller owner. I hired Dan in February to add on a 14 x 14 kitchen and enclose the basement stairs in the garage to be part of the kitchen addition. Dan said he would have it done in a month. I had an engineer draw up the blueprints and they were approved by the City. Dan did not follow the blueprints and tore a landing off that was to stay and just stairs were to be added. In order to get out of my back door to my house I had to pay for deck materials. Dan covered the labor he said. The engineer kept looking at photos sent and could tell Dan and his sub contractors were not following the blueprints. Some inspector supposedly came out to check out the walls on the crawlspace. Never saw that person and I work from home. I can't even count the times where someone was to come and work on the addition and they never showed or they showed up and I didn't know they were coming. Again I was fortunate I work from home as I don't know how I would have made this all work. I didn't want strangers in my house when I wasn't home. Dan would show up at my house asking for money. Again never knew he was coming to collect money. The contract was 3 payments – first payment when I signed the contract, 2nd payment after the framing and the 3rd payment was at the end. He stopped by and said he needed a payment in between the 2nd and 3rd payment. The rafters were not done according to the blueprints and when the supposedly city inspector came out he never even checked out the plumbing and electrical as he was supposed to. He only looked at the rafters as I said they were not done according to the blueprints. He made some mention of it was an overkill what they put on the side rafters (Dan came out and added something as I said they were not done as blueprints showed). The next disaster was the floor was laid before the walls had the sheet rock on them and then had to be painted. I had sheetrock mud and paint on my new floors. I complained to Dan multiple times and I still have paint on my new floors and also varnish from the varnish from the railings. Then the unknown costs I had to come up with. I have never done this before so when I had the quote for the cabinets I assumed the cabinets cost included the counter top and backsplash. It did not. So that was an additional $3000 +. By the way the month project is now 12 weeks and still not completed. I ended up hiring my own man to put the counter top on and Lowes is putting on the backsplash. Another unknown cost was the railings. The railings were on the blueprints so again I assumed the cost of the railings was included in his bid. That cost was not – another $525.00. Forgot to mention earlier the deck materials were $425.00. Then there is the HVAC isse. I kept asking Dan how I was going to heat and cool the addition. He kept saying I have a HVAC guy. The guy did not show up and at this point I did not want to use any more of his sub-contractors. The HVAC was just put in last week by a man I hired. While installing the duct work in the crawlspace I had told him that Dan said his guy put 4 inches of installation on the walls. The HVAC guy said I would be lucky if I had 1.5 inches of insulation on the walls. I texted Dan right away and said what I was just told and that he lied to me again. No response. So now I need to spend extra money to get my crawlspace insulated correctly and the pipes wrapped so my kitchen sink doesn't freeze up this winter. So far the HVAC issue has cost me $1200.00. Another cost I assumed was included in the bid for the plumber. I just pray every day that the addition doesn't leak, the roof blow off, and just that it doesn't fall apart as I found out when the attic was insulated that the carpenters I hired in 2015 to do some remodeling and put an exhaust fan in the bathroom didn't vent it outside and all the water was in the tubing and could have caused my ceiling to cave in. This is my biggest fear with Dan and his sub contractors. It has been a very long, frustrating, stressful and more costly experience and I don't want anyone else to go through this.
