If you have the ability to go and purchase your flowers and trees - by all means Colonial Nursery is good. If you need help with landscaping or sprinkler systems. They seem to uninterested in residential needs.
Description of Work: We love to purchase flowers at this nursery. Three times over the last three years we have asked for additional services in landscaping. The people there are so kind that we have thought sure they would call us back. The last time a man even came out to our house to "look" at things but after three months - no word back. (Our fellow did look like a heart attack waiting to happen - perhaps I should check the obituaries

In May, 2013 I hired a landscape contractor to renew our front yard plantings and planters. They specifically said they wanted to buy the plants from Colonial since they carried a one year warranty. I provided the money for the plants and they did the purchasing. Unfortunately, one of the shrubs died by fall. I called Colonial about getting a replacement and they advised me I must have the receipt. I contacted the landscapers and was unable to get the receipts from them. (My fault, should have checked them out on Angie's list first). I showed up with the dead plant and the gentleman who assisted me did issue the credit without the receipt. This spring, I have 3 holly bushes ($56 each) that did not make it through the winter. I returned to Colonial the other day with the dead shrubs and all the tags that were on them . The first gentleman I talked to advised me there was no credit without a receipt. I explained my predicament and that the landscapers phone number was now out of service. He said I still needed the receipt so he could verify the price they paid. Contractors could get a discount and buy for less or buy without a warranty. I said they did not have an account with Colonial and we could verify by him looking it up. He said it didn't matter, I still needed a receipt. I asked for a compromise, give me a credit for the contractor price. At least give me something so that I would not be out $170. He refused. I noted that I had a credit from last fall and showed who signed the credit. He asked if I wanted to speak to him and I did. Again, I explained my situation to the next gentleman and again was denied. He told me he must have given me the credit last fall because maybe he talked to the landscaper. I told him if I couldn't get a hold of him I don't believe he did either. Seems like he didn't want to believe anything I was telling him. I understand the need for a return policy. However, I had spent over $1000 with them. Couldn't they bend just a little? They will sell you the plant for 25% less if you don't want a warranty. So they had already tacked on an insurance charge for returned plants. Were they really going to lose money on the transaction by giving me a credit. Neither person showed any empathy toward my situation or offered a good explanation as to why they couldn't go just a little extra to help a customer. One guy told me he couldn't give a credit because he would get fired. What kind of explanation is that to give a customer? I don't understand companies that are willing to lose a customer permanently for a few dollars profit. I have been checking with other reputable nurseries in town and find their prices are lower and warranty much better. I will be using them in the future.
Description of Work: Provided plants to our landscape contractor.

They couldn't come out for over a week to give an estimate and then it took another week to receive the quote. The man doing the estimate gave no suggestions or advice about drainage options or the other landscaping and patio we wanted installed.
Description of Work: No service performed.

Colonial is the only nursery, landscaping, and irrigation company I will ever use. My old house was landscaped and had an irrigation system designed by Colonial and it was gorgeous. Their prices and service are the best around. I moved to Olathe and still drive all the way to Blue Springs for all my flower/plant needs. They have the best quality plants and their staff is super friendly. If you're having problems making something grow, just explain the problem and they can always offer a solution that will work. They know what they're doing.
Description of Work: I've used Colonial for years including tree planting, irrigation, landscaping, and buying various plants/flowers each year.

I went in thinking I had sod worms but upon discussion with the staff it seems my soil is not absorbing water well thereby the grass will not grow as well. I received some education and hopefully the correct product to solve the issue.
Description of Work: Needed help with my lawn. Staff help me decide which product I should use to improve grass performance.

They designed the landscape then put a bid on it. It was a 3 step process. They came in and were very accurate. It took them very little time to do it because they were so experienced. I had bids from ther companies that were very expensive. Colonial plants a lot of their own trees, I thought they were good quality trees at a reasonable price. The designer, Dan, was very friendly and personable. He came by the house several times and sometimes he'd just drive by to get a feel for it. He has many years experience and I thought he really put some personl effort into it. I really like him. I had a few suggestions and some thing I wanted to tweak and he did them for me with no problem. He was very easy to work with.
Description of Work: Colonial Nursery planted plants in our front and back yard. They also did the original design.
