At 5:10 pm on the day of the appointment, I got a call from the company asking if I was planning on being there for the appointment. They indicated that I was late and the appointment started at 5 pm. I informed them the appointment was actually set for 5:30 pm. They confirmed that the sales person schedule had been incorrect. I was driving home so I had asked if they could please wait as I have left work early to meet for the bid. I was only 15 minutes from the house. The lady told me she'd have to call me back and find out if the sales person was willing to wait. She also asked me if my husband was going to be home. I indicated that he would not be as he is a surgeon and works hours that do not allow him to meet with contractors. She told me that the sales person would be leaving my house because they only do in home presentations to both owners of the home. I explained to her that the policy was outdated and ridiculous as they will never be able to give a bid if we wait on availability of my husband. For this situation, I would be the primary decision maker and would be capable of making a decision and communicating it back to my husband. She called the sales person again to ask him to stay. They refused to stay at my house and do an in home presentation without my husband present. At this point, I was five minutes from my house. I had left work early from a meeting to get a bid on the $10K+ project and the sales person was refusing to meet with me because my husband wasn't available. I tried to reason with the company and explain that spouses aren't always available (sickness, etc) and the response I got was that i'd need to have power of attorney for them to do an in home free estimate on the project. It was exceptionally frustrating and the policies of a large company interferred with customer service. It was a complete inconvenience to me and after all of that, I never even got a bid. They asked when I wanted to reschedule. My response was never.
Description of Work: I had called to setup a free in home estimate. It was scheduled for 5:30 pm on a Tuesday evening. We were getting bids on a whole house window replacement and then a new front door.

They were wonderful. They were very good. They did it in a days time. The windows are wonderful. If anything goes wrong, they come out and fix it. They're under warranty for 50 years so it was a good deal.
Description of Work: We used the services of Thomas Construction. They replaced windows and doors.

Called them for an estimate and I had to cancel the first appointment and rescheduled it for Wed. they called back and rescheduled for Tues. eve. time frame 7-7:30 they called and left a message at 8 saying that the sales rep was running behind and they were sending someone else out and they would be there in ten minutes they called again at 8:10 saying that they would be there in 10 minutes, so their 10 minutes became 30, so they were 1 1/2 hours past their time they were suppose to be there. When the rep came it was dark and then he was arrogant making comments that this was a big deck and they don't usually do anything this big and that what I was wanting really wasn't something they could do, even though when I made the appointment they said they could do it. The rep them said that it was a hugh deck and that I wouldn't be able to afford it, he was rude and I asked him approximatly the cost and he threw out a number. I didn't care for his attitude and accusations so I told him we were done and escorted him out. If a company doesn't want to actually do what you want they shouldn't waste your time and inconvence you.

Now, as I said I am so glad my son was here because the entire order was all in part numbers, with dimensions listed for decking and sun room. I CHOSE my sink and faucet, counter, and cabinets with my son right there at time of sale. I also chose what type of glass for the sun room and french doors, as well as the slider doors at back of sun room and the window over sink in kitchen all at the time of sale. The work was progressing, the sink and faucet delivered were the cheapest junk on the market and I refused to allow them to be installed. Had some back talk via phone from so called sales manager that those were the parts on the order. However with my refusal to allow the junk be installed and the crew, bless them, telling sales they couldn't because I sent them out of the house, the junk was picked up and what I ordered was delivered within the hour! As to the window and sun room glass? Instead of the THERMAL glass I ordered and was paying for was again told was as on original sales order. The so called sales manager had listed part numbers remember, so all that they wanted to install were solar COATED glass! Now because of my refusal to pay the balance due which was a little over 1/3 of total cost, until the glass was as was demoed and what I ordered that sales manager came to my home to attempt to bully me. Then he hits me with he needed an additional $6000.00 to replace the glass with what I ordered! Again, my son to the rescue! In order to collect the balance which was over $33,000.00 Thomas HAD to replace all the glass with TRUE thermal pane. The kitchen counter still isn't right as the one section doesn't have the same amount of "hang over" as the rest of the kitchen, off by 1/4 inch. Also, what I wanted for my kitchen layout is not exactly what I got, what the sales computer showed me before that buffoon and the sales man left with my contract. I've had to learn to live with it because when they sent the fellow out to measure my kitchen and walls I saw the original diagram but had no idea there was apparently 2 of them so based on the diagram shown me and his measuring which seemed to me he was following that diagram, I signed the second agreement for my kitchen. Didn't have a leg to stand on when cabinets and such were being installed and I saw was not what was supposed to be. Believe me that crew tried VERY hard to get them to do it right. Thomas absolutely refused, do to signed agreement! Must say I was about to contact the maker of the cabinets to tell them about the exposed end cabinets, told Thomas that and low and behold a fellow came and finished the ends as they should have been. The crew was unable to get those wood end pieces when kitchen was completed. (end wood I'm referring to is....cabinet makers don't put the end wood on the cabinets, especially when there are more than 1 of same size since they don't know which cabinet will be the end unit. Why waste wood? This being the case the cabinet ends are always covered with a wood grain paper, however there is a lip already there to allow the piece of wood to be put in place when done. All decent cabinet makers will send wood to match cabinets as soon as the "builder" tells them size. So I had to argue and threaten to get Thomas to FINISH those cabinet ends, took weeks. The plywood used to "seal" in the insulation under the deck floor is all cracking and seam separating in spots. Thomas construction has repeatedly said they'd fix it. Now this July will be 4 years since completion, they were called repeatedly within 6 months of completion STILL not fixed and getting worse! Their electrician left a mess when he was done in my basement which the wonderful crews who were here cleaned up for me. Thomas has also promised to "fix" the sun room where the roof and side walls on the north and south sides shows daylight, still waiting! Been 3 years and nothing fixed there! Would I use them to bring my bathroom up to at least the 20 th century? NO! Would I ever use Thomas construction again? NO But I would hire both the crew who did my kitchen and those who did my deck and sun room if I could without involving Thomas Construction.
Description of Work: The sales people are too pushy, was VERY glad my son was with me to keep the so called sales manager in check. Had a 16x23 foot Sun Room added on the cedar deck Thomas installed first. They removed an old window and door, moved the new French doors to where the window was and redid the wall where the old door was. At the same time another crew was gutting the kitchen and totally replacing insulation, walls, window over sink, and cabinets and counter top. The kitchen opens to the sun room, which is really a 4 season room as I ordered, after the correct glass was installed. I MUST say BOTH crews were the ONLY professionals thru out my entire dealings with this company. The above ratings where excellent, I am ONLY rating the crew's work! The OVERALL Experience I did give a FAIR but really wanted to give a lousy rating. Did not due to the crews who did the actual work. The quality is only fair BUT is NOT a reflection of the actual work, it IS a reflection of NOT getting what I ordered! The Responsiveness IS a reflection of the office, sales, and general attitude of the company. It is NOT a reflection on the crews who did the actual work!

Thomas has a somewhat pushey sales system, so you may want to get all the other quotes you want first. The sales people are nice and very helpful. There windows are not a bare bottom window and they are not a high end window, but you will not find a better window for the price. I do sugest getting a quote in December, like most companies they are willing to be a little more flexiable with price to get the sale before the end of the year. Once we worked out what windows I wanted they got the windows faster than they said they would, they installed the windows sooner than they promised, and the windows look great! the new Bay window is worth every penny. They installed about 20 windows in one day! they did not rush, they were very professional, I even bought them lunch! I really don't have any complaints about the windows or the instalation. The one thing I would mention about replacement windows is that you are going to loose 5% to %10 of the square footage of glass as you had, so if the glass in a window is 12inches X 12inches square, the replacement will be 10inches by 10inches or so ( you will loose about 2inches on all 4 side). My gas bill in the winter and my electric bill in the summer are about %50 less than they were with the original windows (1942) so this was a big help. I noticed that one window had a small crack in it after the install (a month later) I called Thomas, they came out to the house and replaced the glass.
Description of Work: Replaced windows and upgraded three windows into a three window bay window. The windows that were replaced were the original windows installed in the house in 1942, they were single pane windows. the windows I bought from Thomas are thriple pane windows with argon and kyrpton pluse four low e coatings. it is there best glass package.

I WOULD NOT RECOMMEND THIS COMPANY. IF YOU LOOK AT THE WINDOWS THEY LOOK GREAT BUT THE BAY WINDOW LEAKS VERY BADLY. IT TOOK THEM A LONG TIME TO COME OUT AND FIX THE PROBLEM.
Description of Work: THOMAS CONSTRUCTION REPLACED ALL THE WINDOWS IN THE HOUSE. THEY PUT IN A BAY WINDOW IN THE LIVINGROOM.
