Hoffman Concrete, LLC

Mark Hoffman, owner of Hoffman Concrete, agreed to all of the requirements including coordinating with Bates Electric, the electrical contractor. Though a relatively small area, carefully breaking the old concrete away from the brickwork and hand removing the concrete from underneath the deck was meticulous and difficult work. Removal of the concrete from the main area was facilitated by a small Bobcat loader that could jack hammer the concrete and haul the broken pieces making trips back and forth down the driveway and through a gap between the decorative brick posts. The workers came promptly each day and kept the project moving only interrupted by a couple of days for the electrical work and periodic rain. The concrete was poured on a Friday and workmen came the next day, Saturday, for finishing and clean up work. The mixed concrete was hauled by a small skid-steer hopper machine in multiple small loads from the concrete mixer truck, parked on the street, to the project area down the driveway and behind the house. We enjoyed interacting with the workers and appreciated their hard work and care of our property.

Mark and his team were friendly, professional, prompt and diligent throughout the process. They were great about communicating on things like schedules and next steps. The work was very fairly priced and completed on time, which was no small feat given a number of challenges, including the weather. They were also very flexible about a couple of changes and easily worked through the minor issues that inevitably show up on almost every project. The owner, Mark, was onsite a lot and working right alongside the team. Overall, they were great. I would use them again without hesitation and give them my highest recommendation.

They did a great job. Mark worked with us and our budget to get us the look we wanted and worked to get us the color and shape we wanted based on a picture we found. This patio was huge (~700sqft?) and since it is in the back of the property down a steep hill they had to manually truck in all the concrete. We contracted in late November but missed the window for the nice weather and had to wait until the freeze risk was gone to start. Once they started the work went quickly, working around rainy days to get the job done relatively quickly. The foreman worked with us to address the stairs so that they would sit on top of the patio and they were very professional and knowledgeable when they came for the various steps. They then put down a really solid sealer and then back-filled the to the edge and cleaned everything up so all that's left is to re-seed or sod, which I intend to do soon. The patio looks great and we are so happy to be done with the mud under the deck. We can now let our dog out the walk-out basement without worrying about tracking in mud, and we can't wait to enjoy sitting in the shade on those hot summer days! We now wonder why we waited so long to have this done!

Sometimes it's when not everything goes well that you really find out the what the company you're dealing with is really like. We had a glitch in the way the sidewalk was done on our home. I called Mark out and his response was "if you're not happy then we're not finished." The corrected the issue and now we are very happy. Not only would we recommend their service, we will likely use them again in the future.

All-in-all it went well. There were some challenges that none of us expected outside of the weather and Hoffman dealt with them very well (my yard is VERY rocky and neither of us knew that, I've not lived here long) including bringing larger equipment to do the work due to the rocky soil and did it for the price quoted. They also were very flexible when it came to the design and changes that we wanted to make. The one thing that I believe could be improved upon was the design aspect itself. I had an idea of what I wanted and they were willing to do anything, but if you want them to help you design it, that's probably where I think they could use some improvement (I'm talking about shape of patio, placement, etc - again, my yard is a strange shape and very rocky and these guys did a great job dealing with all of it). If I need any additional concrete work done, I'll be giving them a call. They were less than half the price of another big name company that I contacted for another quote.

Hoffman concrete was great to work with. The communication throughout the whole process was excellent. We went back and forth on colors and anytime we had a question Mark was easily reachable and very helpful. The workmanship was great. Would highly recommend.

Talking to the gentleman on the phone, He was very helpful, patient, and honest about what he can and would be able to do in my situation. He explained many options for my consideration and brought to light many things that I should consider. This was very helpful in making my decision to wait for a while before starting this project. There were things that he talked about that I needed to check out before hiring a contractor. Even though I didn't hire Hoffman Concrete for the project I feel comfortable with calling them again for my future needs.

The whole experience with Hoffman Concrete was a smooth one. I had done my research and I knew exactly what I wanted, which helped too. I needed my single 8 foot wide driveway replaced by one as wide as St. Louis County would allow, 26 ft. I made my deposit for the job in Nov. 2016 and got on the schedule. Due to weather and a list of other jobs scheduled ahead of me, the job started on Feb. 14th 2017. The weather broke and I got a call from Mark on the 13th asking if he could start the next day. I gladly said YES ! The old driveway was torn out in less than 1 hour of work by their expert Bob Cat operator. Then he widened the pathway to our full 26 ft size. They tore out old, cracked stairs and their dump truck came by a couple of times to pick up all the debris and old concrete. I also had Hoffman Concrete do a new drain system that tied two gutter down spouts together into one underground PVC pipe that ran off down the slope further away from the house. They did a fantastic job on the drains. The PVC pipe had a valved exit cap on the end. It would keep animals out and still lift up the lid under pressure to let water run out. The whole area cleaned up immensely, and since the job, we have had NONE of the water buildup we used to get by the driveway side doorway of the house. I had a buried tree stump in the ground by the new driveway area. I asked about that being removed even though it wasn't on the original job spec. Their Bob Cat guy dug it out in about 2 minutes, allowing us to level off the yard by the new driveway. The Bob Cat operator left to do another job and the forming crew showed up to form in the new full width of the driveway. Then, at 2PM the same day they started, they had a concrete truck on site pouring the first half of the job. They had most of the really hard work done in 2 days. They finished the first half and let it set up. The next day they came back and the concrete truck returned to pour the second half. They finished up the second side and also formed up the stairs and had those poured too. By 4:00 on day two I was looking at my freshly poured and smoothed out new 26 foot wide by 46 foot long driveway, all protected with cones and yellow tape around the perimeter. They let the driveway cure for about 2 weeks and then came back to remove all the protections around the driveway. They power washed everything and applied a sealer to it. The metal worker that Mark uses to do hand rails came back a couple weeks after all of this and installed a new metal hand rail by the stairs. The rail looks perfect and is mounted solidly to the concrete stairs with anchor bolts. My elderly mother uses it to walk in and out of the house much easier now. This whole job completely exceeded our expectations. There were fine touches that made the job look totally professional. My neighbor, who works in construction professionally, came over and commented on what a great job this was. The sloping contours of the different areas of the driveway allow water to flow exactly where we want it, away from the the house. They put finishing border touches on the outer edges of the driveway and used high quality expansion joint spacers. I never would have known to look at all of these details until my pro construction neighbor pointed them out. I have pictures of the job also. We are already planning our next couple of projects with Mark and his Crew. These guys are Fantastic !

Mark was very helpful in making sure we got what we wanted and provided excellent suggestions. Hoffman website was also helpful in selecting the stamped concrete. The quote from Hoffman was competitive, but not the lowest bid. Once the weather cooperated, Hoffman quickly removed the existing patio and walkway. The crew worked diligently until the job was done. The job site was always cleaned up before they left. My wife and I were extremely happy with the finished product. I would definitively use Hoffman again for concrete work..

it did not, my call was not returned, I am starting from scratch to try and find a contractor that will return my call. My guess is this job was too small, as this pour would have been equivalent to the size of a patio or sidewalk.

Overall they were excellent. Every time I called they came. very customer oriented. Very much about making sure i was happy.

Hoffman Concrete to the rescue! In less than 24 hrs. the ground was dug and a new pad was poured. Beautiful work. And when asked the cost of such a project, Mark Hoffman Sr. smiled and said, "Don't worry about it, I've got you covered." How did it go? To me, a miracle. I was skeptical about all doing this work...but Mr. Hoffman and his crew were great from the start to the end of the project. They offered the best price for the most complete job and Mr. Hoffman and his crew were on top of each phase of the project. They were always on time, did what they said they were going to do, and returned phone calls or texts promptly. They finished the job in a timely manner and paid attention to every detail. I would hire them again in an instant.

The day after I signed the contract, Mark had a guy out removing a small tree in by backyard. A week later the basketball court was poured. Two weeks later when the weather warmed up again they were able to finish the driveway. I could not be happier with the work Hoffman Concrete did. I would recommend them to anyone wanting concrete work done.
