J & E Plumbing

My experience with them didn't go well. When I called them up they told me somebody would be coming, but the person who came was not the actual person and was somebody else. It was two gentleman, one to do the drywall and one to do the actual plumbing service. When he did the plumbing he would clean up the drywall and vacuum up the dust, but they used some type of shelf bag and put it in my kitchen. They forgot to cap off the exhaust vent, so when they turned it on all this dirt that was already inside of it was spreading around my kitchen and my living room. The only comment I got from the service people was "Whoops." I don't know what to do with a whoops. I had to vacuum the whole kitchen, my furniture on the inside, and I don't know if I got all the dirt up. I think that it is kind of a very basic thing that you should know how to use the equipment. The owner of the company calls me back the next day kind of jokingly saying that he hears that they have to provide a cleaning service for me. I didn't appreciate their jocularity at all, so I suggested there's a problem and I was done with them from then. Their cleanup and professionalism I didn't appreciate especially when there's a mistake. They never fixed the actual problem and it was in fact worse. I turned the shower on the next morning and could not turn it off. The water was coming out no matter which way I controlled the faucets, so I called them up again and told them that I had to turn the water off for my entire house because it wasn't fixed right. They sent out the same plumber that day and he fixed it. So far it's doing well, but I would not recommend them. The deal was for two hours of free service and I understand the idea is to try to find something wrong or try to extend it over the two hours and they could charge you whatever they want, which is what happened. It really wasn't a quote a that point. It was like we've gone beyond two hours, so now we're going to charge you. I didn't know going in what the rate was, so I'm kind of suspicious of that. I expected them to come in and do a very simple plumbing job that was done right the first time. It was not done, so the service was not good. They told me they did a certain amount of work at a certain quality, but they did not do it. My expectation is when I call any company back to tell them that they didn't finish work I expect them to drop everything they're doing to come and fix it, so that's what they did.

Service was friendly, on-time, and efficient.

When we purchased the Angie's List special my expectation was that this would cover the majority of the cost and that was not the case. It covered only about half but when Jeff listed the reasons for the other expenses they seemed reasonable. Jeff and I have busy schedules and sometimes it took several attempts for him to contact me and vice-versa but we kept at it and since this was not an emergency it worked out. The guys who actually performed the work arrived on time, were professional and pleasant, and did a good job. My wife and I are pleased with the results.

As contractors go it was a pleasant experience.

I called them up and they were very responsive. I was able to schedule an appointment immediately and they were very good at letting me know when they would be at my house. They came in and went right to work fixing the problem. They did a good job and I would use them again and recommend them.

Workman arrived on time. Took my coupon and the list of tasks to perform and executed them perfectly. Done in 90 minutes.

The time it took was very good and the workers were very professional anfd the work was excellent.

Fine. It was fixed. Technician was very nice and professional.

Once they got there, it went great. They were a few hours late since they had an emergency call somewhere else.

J & E Plumbing did a great job for me. Jeff and his assistant fix a plumbing leak for us for much cheaper than we were quoted from other companies. They were very professional, responsive and even worked great around my curious twin one-year olds. Jeff even came back out for free when we had an unrelated leak and helped us identify it. A+++!

They installed a kitchen faucet. He showed up on time and completed the job in a timely manner. I felt that he was very reliable.

The work was scheduled promptly, and begun and finished exactly as scheduled. All four staff members of the company that I met were unusually pleasant and considerate. They were conscientious about draping furniture, etc, to protect from plaster dust before they began work, and they cleaned up all of their debris carefully--including the basement floor--when their work was finished and removed all of it from the premises. I could not have asked for a better experience!!

Found them on "Angie's list deal of the day". $99 for two hours of plumbing ($65 for parts). Called, got an appointment quickly. Craig and Gary came out, fixed everything. Better than I expected. Thank you!!!! I will use them again at full price but I hope I won't need them for a while! Also, so grateful for the Deal, would have procrastinated without it.

My kitchen sink became "plugged up" and the water would not drain. This was an emergency since I was preparing food for a holiday meal. Rochelle, the person handling the phones for J & E said she would call me right back after she checked with Jeff about fitting me into the schedule, especially since everyone was digging out from a snow storm. Rochelle called me back with in 5 min. and said that Jeff would be at my house sometime in the afternoon as soon as he could fit me in. To my pleasant surprise, Jeff called me around 1:15pm & said he was in my driveway. That was considerably sooner than I thought he would be there. He came in, cleared out my drain and even fixed my faucet. He was very professional, friendly and helpful during this rather frustrating time. I was able to finish my cooking in time for a wonderful holiday thanks to Jeff.

They were able to fit me in within a couple days of purchase, and the plumber that arrived onsite was very professional and courteous. The plumber installed a new kitchen faucet to replace a leaky one, and the plumber was able to install it solidly and test for leaks. He was also able to work loose a stuck water shutoff in my basement that had been stuck for years. I was very happy with the work and would use J&E again.

Although I had some hesitation in hiring J & E Plumbing given some of the reviews on Angie's list, I decided to give them a try given the price of the 2-hour coupon special ($112). I very much so regret my decision. The "plumber" that showed up spent about 15 minutes in my home looking at the faucet, then told me the stems were the problem and that he would need to go to the store to purchase new ones. He told me where the store was, which was about 3 miles from my home. Over an hour later, he returned, with new stems. He replaced them, and it changed nothing. He called his buddie at this point, and sent him pictures, and then had him talk to me on the phone to tell me they recommended a total replacement of the pipes in the wall which would cost an additional $400, plus the cost of a new fixture. Getting the feeling I was being had, I declined the service in order to get another estimate. I asked if they had any tools to attempt to figure out why the pipe was clogged or unclog it. They had no cameras, no wires, or anything that one would expect a plumber to have when working on a clogged pipe. Then the guy admitted to me he really only does new construction--which I took to mean: If we don't know what to do, we just recommend replacing it. At this point, the guy had spent about 30 minutes total in my home and there was less than 30 minutes left on the package. They did tell me if I did the work, they would credit the 30 minutes of time (but did not state how that would affect the $400 estimate). I will not be taking them up on the offer, in part, because of what happened next. BEWARE: I then encountered a circumstance of pure dishonesty, in my opinion, not just incompetence. I asked what the cost of the valve stems were so I could write a check to reimburse the cost. I was told they cost $55.00. I asked for a receipt, I was told he did not have one. I then told hm, "I'll be honest with you, I find it very hard to believe that this valve stem costs that much." He then ADMITTED that it actuallly only cost $35.00, but that "we always have our standard markup" added on. REALLY? I'm paying for your time to travel to the store (which took you over an hour and is only 3 miles away) and puchase the items, and then you LIE to me and tell me they cost $55 when it only costs $35? I told him I would pay the $35, but not the $55. He said okay, that he'd report it to his boss. If I hadn't refused to pay his FIFTY-SEVEN PERCENT MARK UP on the parts, he would not have disclosed that it actually cost $35--which I did not, by the way, verify. I hired someone else who was able to determine a washer had fallen in the pipe and fixed everything for $145. BOTTOM LINE: Don't be fooled by the low-priced deal. This was a total wast of money (and a morning of work). If you have a clogged drain or pipe, go with a company that actually does repair work, not just new construction. Someone who does the former will have proper equipment to diagnose and fix problems, not just offer replacement. IMHO, the representative of this company that came to my home was dishonest, and it appears from what he said that this is a systemic problem with them. If you do use them, tell them you will not reimburse for any parts without a receipt.

I have had trouble scheduling an appointment with them. I have called and called and left message after message. I finally decided to get the work done by someone else and requested a refund.

The first time I called, I was asked to email the request. The second time I called, I was told someone would be out the next day. The third time I emailed and was told someone would be out the next day. No one ever showed and I went with another plumber for the job.

On the phone and in person the whole experience was as good as paying for a plumber can be :) They were courteous, professional, prompt, communicative, and any other adjective you'd use to describe a good plumber.

Two men came over on February 12 to do the work. They were very professional and did a good job. First they took everything out of the bathroom and tore out the old floor. Then they installed the new ceramic tile. They had to give the tile some time to set, then they put in the new vanity and toilet. I am very pleased with how nice the bathroom looks. The light colored ceramic tile makes the bathroom look much bigger. While the men were working Jeff came to check on the work being done.
