I contacted this company for deck maintenance. Tony responded quickly and came out the next day to look at the deck and give an estimate. Within 24 hours, I was e-mailed an estimate that I was very happy with. I told him that I would like to go ahead with the job and he said he would get back to me within a day to schedule when to start. When I didn't hear back from him for over a week, I called, and he said his e-mail must not be working. He said he would call me later that day. He never called. So I called him back again, and he told me AGAIN that his e-mail must be screwed up. So basically he was trying to tell me that instead of calling me, he continued to try to e-mail me even though it "wasn't working". Finally, we scheduled a time to start work. As it turned out, it rained that day so we had to cancel. On the phone, he gave me the impression that he was way too busy to do the work on the deck and he would call me at his convenience (whenever he had a free day). Which makes me wonder why he came out and gave an estimate at all. I haven't heard from him in a week so I'm assuming he is not interested in the job anymore or his e-mail still is "not working". In response to the provider's response - The fact that the rain delayed the deck project did not upset me. What upset me was that when he had cancel because of the rain (which is completely understandable) he told me that he didn't know when he would be able to get to the project because there were several people ahead of me, which did not make any sense. And then I didn't hear from him for days and days to talk about a potential start date. What also upset me was that he used an "e-mail malfunction" as an excuse not to reach me. As a person who uses e-mail regularly, I know that my e-mail works properly. The company I hired for my deck project gave me a bid which was half of Tony's bid. They also did not seem at all overwhelmed with the project like Tony was. A few of my neighbors are using the same company for their decks so they must know what they are doing. As a liar, Tony has earned an A+. I have to say, though, that he may want to terminate his business to pursue stand up comedy, as he is very skilled at sarcasm (something I don't think should be used with clients, but I guess he thought it would be okay to speak to me like that because I'm a woman). Good luck to whomever hires him!!!!! Especially if you're a woman, for he doesn't seem to have any respect for them.

Response from DISTINCTIVE FINISHES BY GEORGE BUNCH
Member contacted us to receive an estimate on a seriously neglected deck. Her home owners association had cited her and given her a deadline within which time the deck had to be brought into a minimum compliant state. Member stated that I was the second contractor to look at it, and that the first fellow shared he couldn't or wouldn't meet her needs. Member stated that she felt that as long as she was making an effort to be compliant, the h.o.a. would be cooperative., We scheduled the project to start approx. 1 week after the proposals acceptance, during which time it can be documented that we were having extreme, toronadic weather,(in fact, some of the most extreme, wet & deadliest on record). Our start day was Friday & it rained. I called Member to inform her that we wouldn't be starting her project b/c of weather. She seemed put out over it, so I assured her that she hadn't lost her spot in our rotation, and that she was next on our list. I told her to freely reach me via-phone, as e-mail comm. didn't seem to be functioning between us, (although I hadn't had problems communicating via e-mail with anyone else at the time). She stated that she would just wait to hear from me, and we left it at that. The following 6 days, it can be documented that it rained every single day, and not just a sprinkle or shower.....but torrential rain throughout the area. I did not call Member each day to tell her that it was raining, as I noted upon my survey of the project site that she had several windows, a television and what appeared to be free access to the outside world. On or about Thurs, (approx. 6 days after our scheduled start date), Member e-mailed me to state that she had hired someone else for the project and was disappointed in my lack of communication. The weather would have permitted this project to take place within 2 days of her cancellation of our agreement. I regret not having the opportunity to bring her deck structure up to standard compliance as to the h.o.a.'s specifications, and to whoever the task falls.....I say good luck!! As a potential client, Member has earned the grade of F. Angie's List is invaluable as a consumer-driven vehicle through which folks have the opportunity to make informed decisions as to who they choose to fulfill needs. I place high value on the feedback left on behalf of our company, and to that end strive to exceed all expectations when hired to do a task. As always, I can be freely reached to discuss this situation with whomever wishes to do so. Regards; Tony Bunch Distinctive Finishes, Inc.

Not only is Tony professional, he is really a nice guy who came highly recommended. Once we accepted his bid (which was in the middle of three bids) he was in constant communication updating us about schedules, weather, etc. He coordinated with the gutter and roofing company since some painting had to be done while the gutters were down. Once the painting started, Tony was here checking up each day. The painters were courteous, cleaned up in the evening, and did a great job. We couldn't be happier with the whole experience.

I have used Tony before for deck maintenance and was impressed with his work. He gave us a very reasonable quote for an extensive painting job. He and his team were punctual, efficient, careful workers and went the extra step to address all my concerns. I very much appreciated Tony's responsiveness to all my phone calls and emails and it was a pleasure to work with this good humored and professional gentleman. I would use him again and have referred him to several of my neighbors.

Obtained three estimates. Tony was the most prompt and most competitive. Had several questions regarding his bid and promptly responded and answered all questions. He gave me the date for the project, showed up on time as promised and completed the project on time. Discovered some additional work that could be done such as replacing additional boards. Suggested alternatives and agreed on work that would be above his original bid. Very satified with the completed work and I would use him again.

The price they quote is was around $8,000. We thought that the quote was high compared to the company we went with. They were responsive in coming out and giving us the quote and we would probably get a quote from them again.

Altogether a good job. They were very friendly and flexible. They did miss one small area of the rear fascia, but it was in a somewhat hidden area so even we didn’t notice it until weeks later.
Description of Work: Distinctive Finishes power washed and painted the exterior of our house (siding, trim, doors and shutters). They also replaced several woodpecker damaged siding boards and installed some additional trim in the carport to cover some gaps in the aging gyp board.

To cut down on the hassle to our family, we asked to have the work done while we were out of town. Tony obliged, but was unable to get some other work rescheduled around us, so the project was squeezed into a weekend (and possibly some late nights). We did not hear any questions from Tony while out of town, so we assumed the work was proceeding smoothly. When we returned, we found things to be less than satisfactory. There had been a misunderstanding about what color we wanted everything painted. There had evidently not been enough time to install any of the hardware we specified. Of the four swing doors installed, two do not close properly and the other two are either framed or hung crooked. The casing around the doors and some areas of the base left gaps at the floor of 1/4” or more. As we have hardwood floors, these gaps are noticeable. When the old doors were removed, some of the paper (and paint) was torn off the gyp board around the frames. They reprimed these areas, but did not even offer to repaint them. These areas left unpainted are also quite noticeable – the largest is 5” x 2”. Honestly, we would have wanted almost the entire job redone to be satisfied, but we knew that would be impossible. We settled for insisting on repainting to our desired color and installing the hardware. The hardware installation cost an additional $90 of labor (I had to go buy the hardware myself and one of the door levers was installed upside down in the end). How much to pay for repainting was a tense discussion, but Tony finally agreed to repaint (we bought the paint) and fill the one worst trim gap at a rate I believe was close to his direct labor cost without profit ($160). At least everything is now the right color, but we did not have the budget to pay for the job to be done twice, and there was no reasonable way to get them to eat the expense of redoing the carpentry/doors. Every time I close my bedroom door, and the latch gets jammed on the strike plate, I’m reminded that I paid over $1900 for such professional results.
Description of Work: Distinctive Finishes replaced our front door and the doors to two bedrooms, two bathrooms and four closets. The work also included replacing some base board in the hallway.

Response from DISTINCTIVE FINISHES BY GEORGE BUNCH
This project was completed in Aug /09. Why a negative feedback was posted 9 months later is a mystery to me. The only issue with this project that EVER came to my attention was the color that we painted the doors. Clients accepted our proposal, requesting that we do work while they were out of town. We're busy, and in order to accommodate their request agreed to do the project on the weekend. He was aware of the arrangement, I left the husband/wife communication to the 2 of them. This is my profession, I won't proceed in the absence of a client unless I'm clear of my direction. Mistakes don't pay my help or my bills, they don't further my reputation or grow my business. Call-backs don't pay, so we go above and beyond to get it right the 1st time, as our feedback make testament to. We're NEVER paid until a project is complete, & we only take a small material deposit to cover a portion of expenses incurred during a project. The incentive is "Do a good job, then get paid". When the clients arrived from their time away, the project was complete. Hardware was NOT installed b/cause they were to provide and have on site for us to install. They didn't have time to get it b/for they left town,so they left model #'s for me to pick up & install. No offer to have it paid for & ready to pick-up, no offer of any additional deposit $ to cover expenses. I'm a service oriented guy, but this was forward and assumptive There's no gray area in our proposals, no room for confusion. Upon their arrival he stated the doors were the wrong color. I reminded that we matched the paint he left for us. It matched perfectly the trim HE had installed, which ADJOINED what we had installed. He stated that it was to be painted white. I had no recollection of any discussion to that end, and there was no white paint left for us to match. The only paint on site & discussed was used and matched. I said if it was my mistake, I'd own it & the doors would be repainted white @ no $ to him, but I was going to check our e-mail correspondence to confirm & please 4 him to do the same. There turned out to have been no discussion of any other color, and I held firm that there was no ? in my mind @any time as to the color I was instructed to do the doors, but that I would do them if he would simply cover my costs to do so.He agreed & I stated that I would just p/u some white paint & do the job. He said he would have to get me the paint to match. Turns out that even if I had painted the doors white it would have been the wrong white since he never furnished me w/the color in the 1st place. He stated "That may be true". I told him "Looks like I was damned if I did & damned if I didn't on this one". I returned, did the repainting, installed their hardware & was paid w/out issue & thanked for my effort. I will under no circumstance work w/these people again. I will advise colleagues to avoid them as well, detailing my experience truthfully & with a perfectly clear conscious.

He is excellent. His company did a lot of work for us. We have used him constantly over the past nine months. We are going to use him again shortly for some work in the house. His company does just about anything that we need to have done, relating to both exterior and interior. Seven months ago, he painted the exterior of our house and also repaired the cedar siding damage. Then, he completely painted the interiors of the top floor, along with three bedrooms, kitchen, family room, dining room and den. He put crown molding all through out the house except in the master bedroom, since it already had the molding. The work cost us more than $10000. He also fixed a leaking shower in our bathroom. He even did some research on the water hammer problem that we had. He is a very talented and very cooperative person. He has been like a son to us. He is going to stain our cedar fence, as soon as the weather permits and do more work on the interior of our house.
Description of Work: We have used Distinctive Finishes By George Bunch for interior painting and handymen services. The last project that he did was painting our family room. He also did some woodwork and crown molding in our family room and our front room, a month ago.

He emailed me the day before he was due to show up and said his current job was running over. He was apologetic and said he would not be able to start until the next Saturday. A week later he emailed me and said he would not be able to come that Saturday, either. He assured me that once he did start he would give me his undivided attention until the job was finished. He put me on "first opportunity" status. Ten days later I emailed him once more, saying if he needed more time he could have it, but if he wouldn't or couldn't perform the work let me know so I could line up another contractor. I never saw or heard from him again. He wasted over a month of my time on this.
Description of Work: I had Tony come out to quote some carpentry work on the beams and fascia of my house. I was not home, he talked to my wife, but she was impressed by his professionalism and grasp of the problem and required solution. He submitted a reasonable quote and I asked him to perform the work. He said he would be there Saturday to start the job.

THE MEMBER WAS PLEASANT TO MEET WITH AND OFFER A TOUR OF THE PROBLEM AREAS. I ASKED INITIALLY (AS I ALWAYS DO) IF THERE WAS A TIME LINE THEY WE'RE OPERATING ON, AS WE STAY BOOKED 6-8 WEEKS IN ADVANCE. SHE STATED THEY HAD NO DEADLINE, BUT THE SOONER THE BETTER NATURALLY. MORE THAN A WEEK PASSED AND I GOT A RESPONSE FROM HIM ACCEPTING THE PROPOSAL & ASKING WHEN WE COULD START THE WORK. I RESTATED OUR BOOKING STATUS, AND THAT I COULD PUT HIM ON "1ST AVAILABLE" STATUS. HE AGREED TO THIS, AND SOON THEREAFTER I NOTIFIED HIM THAT IT LOOKED LIKE WE COULD PERFORM THE WORK ON THAT SAT. HE AGREED, STATING THAT HE WOULDN'T BE HOME BUT TO COME AHEAD IN HIS ABSENCE. BY THURSDAY OF THAT WEEK IT BECAME EVIDENT THAT THE PROJECT WE WE'RE ON WAS GOING TO REQUIRE SAT'S ATTENTION, SO WITH AS MUCH NOTICE AS POSSIBLE I NOTIFIED HIM, STATING THAT ITS OUR POLICE NOT TO ABANDON WORK IN PROGRESS SIMPLY TO BEGIN ANOTHER PROJECT, AND FURTHER STATED THAT HE COULD EXPECT THE SAME LEVEL OF COMMITMENT WHEN WE BEGAN HIS PROJECT. HE STATED HIS DISAPPOINTMENT, AND I PROPOSED THAT HE REMAIN ON 1ST AVAILABLE STATUS, AND THAT WE AIM FOR THE FOLLOWING SAT. THE SCENARIO REPEATED ITSELF, AND I GOT AN EMAIL STATING HE NEEDED TO MOVE FORWARD WITH THE PROJECT AND HE WOULD GIVE ME A LITTLE TIME BEFORE HE FOUND SOMEONE ELSE TO DO THE WORK. ITS MY POLICY TO NOT EARN NEW BUSINESS AT THE EXPENSE OF CLIENTS I'M ALREADY COMMITTED TO. I REGRET THE MEMBERS POSITION ON OUR COMMITMENT POLICY. AS WE GROW, WE LEARN.

TONY MADE SURE I SAW HOW SOME THINGS WERE DONE, ASKED ME TO CHECK THEIR WORK TO BE SURE I WAS PLEASED, AND ASKED IF I HAD ANY QUESTIONS OR IF THERE WAS ANYTHING ELSE THEY COULD DO. THEY WORKED FROM THE LIST AND WENT TO TOWN TO GET IT ALL DONE. THEY CLEANED UP EVERYTHING WHEN FINISHED. THEY WERE A PLEASURE TO WORK WITH AND I HIGHLY RECOMMEND THEM. WE WILL CERTAINLY HAVE THEM BACK WHENEVER WE NEED THEM. WE ARE NOT HANDY SO THEY WERE A WONDERFUL HELP IN FIXING MANY THINGS AROUND OUR HOUSE. THEY HAVE A FULLY STOCKED TRUCK TO DO JUST ABOUT ANYTHING!
Description of Work: FIRST OF ALL, DISTINCTIVE FINISHES LISTS THEIR WORK ON THE BUSINESS CARD AS: INTERIOR/EXTERIOR PAINT, CARPENTRY, PRESSURE WASHING, WALLPAPER, STAINING/SEALING, AND SO MUCH MORE. WE HIRED THEM PRIMARILY FOR TWO OUTSIDE CARPENTRY REPAIR PROJECTS OF REPLACING SOME ROTTEN WOOD SOFFIT AND FASCIA BOARDS DUE TO A ROOF LEAK, AND DAMAGED LOWER BOARDS ON OUR BAY WINDOW. THEY HAD TO CUT ALL PIECES TO FIT, AND MAKE NEW DRIP EDGE ON THE BAY WINDOW. THEY CAULKED AND PAINTED THESE AREAS. AS THEY CAN HANDLE MANY TYPES OF WORK, WE GAVE THEM A LIST OF AN ASSORTMENT OF OTHER THINGS WE NEEDED DONE OR FIXED INSIDE OUR HOME. THEY WERE ABLE TO COMPLETE ALL, KNOWING EXACTLY HOW TO ACCOMPLISH EACH! WHAT A GREAT RELIEF TO HAVE ALL OF THESE THINGS DONE.
