I called them because they had installed the fireplace in the house I bought. It was difficult to get a response back to my call. When the man did come, he seemed to know what he was doing. One "log" had broken, and he said it was dangerous to burn the fireplace with the broken surfaces exposed. I asked him to order a replacement for me, but I never heard from them again. I even called back and asked...but to no avail. I took that separate log out and have burned it since. However, some of the other pieces are separating and by the end of last winter, it had a bad fume when it burned. I'm afraid to use the fireplace again but won't use this company again. I'm not sure if they are even in business. I'm trying to find the best places in Columbia who do gas fireplace supply and service.

This company exceeded our concept of poor service so we want to warn others to steer clear of them. Although the unit (a Lennox Direct-Vent Fireplace) was supposed to be installed after Thanksgiving and prior to Christmas, we ended up waiting until after New Year's--with little to no explanation or communication from the proprietor. Also, the proprietor was going to stop by to show us examples of different face plates to help in our decision, but that never occurred. After New Year's when the installers arrived , they carried the unit in, unpacked it and began reading instructions because they had never installed this unit before. They then realized they had the wrong size vent pipe and left. Later we discovered this installer had damaged our rug. About 2 weeks later, the second installers came to the house. They set the unit in, hooked it to the gas and placed the thermostat, but didn't really have enough wire to put it in the proper location and put it in crooked. After they left, my husband looked everything over and essentially had to re-do everything. The most critical issue here was that he found a gas leak because they had not tightened the pipe joint properly!! We could have had an explosion!! Also, the vent pipe was not properly seated so Carbon monoxide could leak back into the house. We had air blowing in through the outside wall and condensation that started to stain the interior paint. My husband also re-positioned the whole unit so it would be level and flush with the front wall for setting tile. He got his own wire and moved the thermostat, and did the wiring for the fan. After that experience, we did not want to have this family company do the tile work, so my husband again set in the cement board, did the tile work and finishing. He also had to frame the vent on the outside of the house to make it look more finished. Essentially, my husband had to read through the instructions and do everything. Even then, we still did not have the face plate to finish it off. The proprietor had ordered the wrong one at least once and then it seemed to take weeks to get the right one. Finally the face plate came 3/7/11 and our fireplace is complete--after nearly a 4-month ordeal!
Description of Work: We wanted a vented gas fireplace in our basement to replace the unvented fireplace that was here when we moved in 15 months ago. Since this company had installed the fireplace on the main living level and it looked and performed very nicely, we thought we would go with the same company. We contacted Barb at Fireside Supply the week of Nov. 8, 2010; then got our estimate 11/15/2010 and made our 50% down payment and was told it should be ready to install the week after Thanksgiving. Since the vent could not go into our other chimney, we arranged for the propane service people to move the emergency vent, so the new fireplace vent could go out the side wall in a safe location .
