We reached out to several concrete contractors for this project. Ortmann concrete responded right away and within a couple days had a bid for us. We changed the project a few times but they were always very pleasant and helpful. The bid was more than $1,000 cheaper than bids from other highly rated companies for the same work. We decided to go with Ortmann concrete based on their responsiveness, ease of communication (change of project details, etc) and price. We couldn't be happier with the results. The concrete crew arrived on Monday morning and excavated, dug footings for the deck, laid gravel, and framed the project. We wanted to alter the patio frame a bit, and the crew was more than happy to get us what we wanted. Over the next few days, the poured, stamped, and stained the concrete. The following Monday they powerwashed the stained concrete and cleaned up the remaining concrete remnants in the yard. They came back later in the week to seal the concrete. The stained / stamped concrete looks amazing! The patio looks exactly like we were envisioning (see pictures of random stone on Ortamann's website).

The work was contracted to begin on Monday, 8/12/13. The workers and owner showed up promptly on Monday morning with the equipment needed. They tore out the old, cracked asphalt and hauled it away. At the same time, they began setting up the sections to pour the new driveway. Since this was a large job, a circle drive and a straight section driveway entrance into garage area, it was done in sections. Over the five day work period, the crew and owner arrived on time in the morning and stayed until the last section was poured and set for that day. (Concrete trucks end deliveries around 3 pm daily.) The completed work is absolutely beautiful! In addition to the swirls and border, we added a gray color to the concrete. We have had many compliments from the neighbors, and those same neighbors have requested estimates for work on their properties. The crew and the owner have been nothing but professional throughout this process. They are hard workers and the owner was very cordial and actually worked along side of his crew. They had the right equipment and cleaned up every day when they had finished. I would DEFINITELY recommend Ortmann Concrete to family, friends, neighbors and anyone else that needs concrete work.

This contractor met with me at my house within a couple days of me requesting a bid. Initially I was impressed as he was going to quote what I was asking for so he was apples-apples with other bidders, but also gave me some other ideas to consider. I could tell he was a little more creative that the other bidders. That meeting took place on 7/28. Based on his suggestions, I drew up a couple different plans using computer software. These plans incorporated some of his and our ideas. The plans were detailed with dimensions and square footage calculations. Approximately 10 days later, I called to see where the quote was and to tell him I drew up some plans. He said he was heading out on vacation and hadn't gotten around to writing the quote up, but gave me some numbers over the phone and told me he was going to write it up that week. The verbal numbers were pretty good so I told him about the drawings I made. After discussing with my wife, I sent him the drawings 3 days later. I never received that written quote for the original bid, but didn't think much of it at the time since I wanted him to price the new plans anyway. Time goes by and on August 18th I had to call again as I had heard nothing from them. He told me he remembered writing up the quote and was surprised I didn't have it. He told me he would look into it. FINALLY on August 22 I receive a quote from them, so more than likely it wasn't written up when I called as it shouldn't take 4 days to send an email. The quote was not very detailed. The price seemed okay, but I immediately emailed them back with a list of BASIC questions and asked for some detail items to be added to the quote. I asked for items such as insurance certificate, any written warranty/guarantees, possible dates, list of references, etc. I haven't heard from them since. So now it is the end of August and most likely I will have to push my patio plans off to the spring since this contractor has wasted so much time and I put too much faith in them. It should not take that long to get quotes from contractors. I should have let the other bidders bid on the new plans. Maybe then I would be getting something done this fall. I thought I was doing the right thing by sticking with this contractor since I used his ideas/suggestions and the pricing was decent. Lesson learned.
