ABC Quality Moving & Storage

Overall it went very well, even though there were some complications. I am actually using them again today to move a bunch of gigantic stuff I purchased from Costco. They arrived on-time and were careful to keep everything clean in both my apartment and new home. One guy packed while the other three began loading already packed boxes and furniture. I provided an extra set of hands to speed packing up, although I doubt it made much impact. The guys were very skilled and able to move some enormous items like a 8 foot by 5 foot tall mega-dresser with all the drawers. Their biggest truck couldn't fit all my goods in 1 trip, so after the first truck was unloaded into the house, 2 of the guys came with me to empty the storage unit while the other two stayed with the wife to assemble furniture. In the end, it all got done very close and just below the estimated time Mike provided in his initial estimate. During the move process, my kid's particle board wooden train table was broken. It's not super sturdy, so it wasn't surprising. Mike bought a new one for me; it probably cost him $100. Only two minor negatives I would note is 1) I had to convince the 4 movers to split up after the first load. It would have wasted time for all 4 of them to go to the storage unit to pick up the last items, and I finished earlier as a result. 2) They took over an hour for lunch. However, I didn't have to pay for this, so it's pretty unimportant and the poor guys must have been tired as h***. Again, best recommendation is that I'm using these guys again.

The gentlemen that came out to do the estimate was very professional, courteous, went through the house, did a good job, emailed me an estimate the next day, and then when I hired them the three men that came out did a good job. Their price was quite good. They started on time and they worked continuously through the day. They were very efficient. They got everything moved in the time frame that they said they would. The price was at the upper end of the estimate but there was a little bit more work there than they originally expected so it ended up being correct.

The day started out well enough. However, as the day progressed it became clear that the movers were more and more weary of the job. On several occasions, I reminded them of some smaller stuff that still needed wrapping/packing. I had to place several phone calls to the office because the movers were balking at doing certain things or taking care of certain items. We had a time deadline to reach the storage unit that afternoon. At the end of the day there were items that were not taken care of, items forgotten/overlooked, and tasks negotiated in the original conversation with the person on the phone when I engaged these movers that were SIMPLY NOT DONE. When we left the apartment, there were still boxes on the floor and several furniture items that had not been loaded. In fact, as we drove to the storage unit, I was on the phone with the office to tell them how totally dissatisfied I was with the whole experience. It was a galling and frustrating experience in every possible way. That afternoon, as I was at the storage unit, I had to ask for another recommendation from the office worker at the storage company and was immediately on the phone to engage another mover to finish the job. I will rent a truck and move items myself before I engage this business again.

They did the move during an unexpected snow storm after we had rescheduled due to a snow storm on the day we were scheduled to move. Even though we moved on the weekend, they gave us the weekly rate, which is lower, because we had to reschedule because of weather. The guys got stuck in the snow, but shoveled and worked through it. Then, when we got to our house, the driveway was unusable with a big dumpster stuck at the top and they had to navigate down our slick sloped yard to get all the furniture out of the truck and into the house. They put down mats in the house and were very careful. It took a long time due to the conditions, but they were real troopers and had a great attitude the whole time. There were heavy things to lift and different sets of stairs and they handled all of it efficiently and with great humor. They put all the furniture back together easily and without being asked. This is the best move experience we have ever had. The team's names were Kevin, Walt, James R. and Nathan.

Everything went great with the move. The two gentlemen arrived on time and worked quickly and efficiently. Despite a few heavy and awkward pieces, there was no complaining from either of them. They were very careful with all items, especially the fragile items and the large pieces. They did not bang into a single wall nor did they scratch any door or any other surface. I wouldn't hesitate to use ABC in the future.

We've used ABC twice now and would recommend them to everyone! Our 2-man crew, Kevin and Walt, were great! They were very efficient with the whole move - from condo/storage unit to Uhaul storage unit to the new home. We were very appreciative of their help! They've done a great job with both our moves...so, if you're looking for the best moving company in St. Louis area, call ABC!

Kevin, Walt, and James R showed up on time and worked quickly but not rushed. They were able to get everything into my new place with ease and were done much faster than I expected. Nothing was damaged and they were willing to move things around a couple of places where I had not measured currectly. I do not hope to move anytime soon but if I do I will hire them again.

I got bids from 4 companies, including ABC, which I had found here on Angies List. My first 2 bids were astronomically high--$4000! I was panicking! Then ABC came out to check things out, and gave me a bid for less than 1/2 of what the other "well-known" companies were going to charge. ABC's per hour rate is much better than those other guys. I did have concerns, however, that the time allowed was not enough. The others had thought it would be a 2 day move--1 day out and 1 day in. Mike originally thought it could be done in 1 long day. We talked about that, and he came back out to have another look. He agreed that maybe doing it over 2 days would be better, so that was what we arranged. They called the day before to verify everything. The morning of the move, a crew of 5 arrived with 3 trucks (the original bid was with 4 guys and 2 trucks). Mike just wanted to be sure everything ran smoothly (no extra charge for the 5th guy and extra truck). It was a long day, but the guys worked tirelessly and pleasantly. They were very careful with our things, and made sure to point out any scratches, dents, etc that already existed. They loaded up the 3 trucks, and took our things to storage for the night. The next morning, they arrived right on time again, and unloaded all 3 of these trucks. Mike had again sent a 5th man at no extra charge since the 1st day we really had needed the extra help. The trucks were unloaded carefully, things taken where we wanted them. They even came up with a clever idea for taking in our bazillion storage tubs through a basement window to speed things up. They rearranged furniture to our liking. The final cost was higher than the original bid; however, it was still well under the other guys. I am extremely happy with this company, and highly recommend them.

Mike came by to look around the house and give me an estimate for the appropriate crew size, time and cost. I was surprised by the quote, but it was almost identical to another quote in terms of crew size and time. As it turned out, Mike was right on target for the number of trucks required and approximate time. When I needed some paper for wrapping fragile items, Mike dropped some off right away so he didn't slow down my prep work. On moving day, the crew showed up right on time and got to work (Kevin, Frank, P.J., Walt, Sam and Nick). They didn't complain about hauling all of the heavy stuff up out of the basement. They did a good job of planning what to load where to make the most efficient use of the truck space and provide for an orderly unloading at the other end. They were careful to point out fragile items that they couldn't guarantee would move intact, but promised to wrap them carefully and do the best they could. There were only a few items like this that we couldn't move ourselves so we had them do it and everything came through just fine. When we got to the new house, they had to juggle the trucks on a long, narrow driveway, but they did a good job of dealing with that issue. They planned the unloading such that they could get most of the stuff into the basement (going around the outside of the house) before sundown so things would be safer. We ran into a problem getting a couple of Steelcase desks into the room we planned to put them in. They tried every option they could think of, but the door was a little too small. They shifted gears and unloaded other stuff while my husband figured out how to disassemble the end of the desk. Once he had that figured out, they quickly came back to the desks and put them in the right places. They crew was very friendly and polite. They worked hard for a long day without complaint.

They were easy to deal with up front and seeemed professional when we 1st contacted them. I also thought with the good recs here on Angies List- how could we go wrong. 1st they moved out the washer and dryer to the garage. Then they moved the fridge out and a piece broke off the pipe. They said they weren't responsible for that. We were okay with that and scheduled someone to come out and fix the pipe. When the pipe got fixed the water was turned on to the house. The next day we returned to the house to find out that when they removed the washer they didn't turn off the water. The water had run all night and flooded the finished basement. When we called to explain they said they would call back they wanted to talk to their people. Surprise, they called back and said there people said it wasn't their fault. So, we had our construction people call them. They also hung on them. So, I called again today thinking he would at least help share the cost. When I said I was going to disuput the charges he said he didn't care because he had my signature and then hung up on me again. The whole conversation was rude he kept interupting and wouldn't let me explain the situation from my view. Very unprofessional. I woudn't trust them at alll.

The move went very well. The three (3) men arrived right on time, loaded everything efficiently, stopped for lunch on the way to the new place (and that time was deducted from the total charged me) and unloaded and placed/replaced everything to our satisfaction. one small incident with a Christmas tree holder left a little pile of rust on the new beige carpeting, but i think we removed most of it with tape so it isn't noticable. It was not the mover's fault, just an accident, and that was the only downside to the move. I have two antique cupboards with breakable wavy glass from my great grandparents, and they were moved with no problems. they were my biggest concern. I would definitely use ABC again.

They came as scheduled, were polite and pleasant and got the job done quickly and efficiently. They were being paid by the hour but still hustled to get the job done, they did not drag their feet to drive up the cost. One of the movers got hurt and continued to help get the job finished, Nothing was lost or broken. We were very happy with the job and would use them again.

The two guys were very professional and did a great job in blistering heat.

The movers showed up on time and got right to work. They were very professional and did a great job moving everything up and down the steps and didn't damage a single item. This is the second time I've used ABC and I have always been pleased with their work.

The move went well given my failure to properly plan for the size of the job. Doug, P.J., Tim, and Bill B. all pulled together to get my stuff out of the house and into storage. The only thing that I would do differently would be to have someone come help me pack a few days before the actual move date. They did a great job not only moving my stuff but also babysitting one stressed former homeowner. Thanks ABC!!

Moving is never fun. Especially on a 95 degree day. But somehow Walt, Sean D and Kevin made it a lovely day. They are polite, careful, hardworking and very, very funny. I haven't laughed that hard in a long time and certainly never on moving day. I recommend ABC to everyone who needs movers; it wouldn't be possible to get better movers and they are priced very reasonably.

The bid for 3 hours of work at an hourly rate was given over the phone, without any visit to my apt. The two-man, one-truck team showed up exactly on time, came in and looked at what I had and got right to work. The older (lead?) member of the team grumbled a bit about how many boxes there were and, basically, grumbled all the way through the job about various things, which I found a bit unprofessional. However, they were VERY helpful -- partly disassembled an IKEA desk and then re-assembled it at the new house (which I had asked for in advance), but also dismounted a large mirror from the wall, which I had forgotten about, and disassembled an IKEA shelving unit that they couldn't get out any other way with only two guys, and also reassembled it on the other end. The move took 8 hours, rather than 3, as bid. I wasn't surprised and had figured on 5 hours, at least. There are small damages to a two different pieces of furniture, that I've found so far -- a nick in the edge of a wooden cabinet and cracks in the very thin backing of an IKEA bookshelf unit. They put nearly everything in the room I had the box labeled for -- have so far found only found one box upstairs that was marked for basement. Overall, the move went well, but I think the site should be viewed before a bid is given.

Received a quote promptly and was able to schedule our move for 2 weeks later. Movers arrived at 9AM and were finished approximately 5:00 PM. They quilt wrapped items such as dressers. The only complaints I have are that they jammed a screen door closed and did not tell us, and also I was told I didn't have to remove any clothes from the dressers, apparently an armoir is different. When I checked the house after the movers left there were piles of clothes on the floors which were in the armoir. If they would have told me to remove those, I would have. They did put the beds back together at the new house, which I appreciate.

After getting 4 bids, I decided on ABC Quality Movers. They recommended 3 movers and one truck and gave me an estimate range. The high end of the range was lower than the next considered mover who suggested 4 movers and came in about $400.00 higher. The competitor's bid did include any boxes and packaging that might be needed for the few things I needed help with. I had completed all the packing except for about 5 pictures and 1 large vase. All of this was discussed during the home visit with both companies. The ABC men arrived promptly at 9:00 a.m. and worked tirelessly. It took them until 2:00 pm to pack up the house. There were concerns it might not all fit into the truck. After a short break, they arrived at the new place around 3:00 pm. to unload. They did not finish until 10 p.m. at night. By this time, everyone was exhausted and tempers were getting short. The movers didn't want to put the bed together and although boxes were clearly marked as to which room they belonged, they started leaving boxes anywhere and everywhere. When it came time to pay the bill, I was stunned to see the overtime and I was going to have to pay approx. $400 over the original high-end bid. This ended coming in higher than the competitor's bid. The next morning, I called Mike Munie and reached him a few days later. I explained how I felt he had completely under-estimated and under-bid the job and that the boxes, etc. we had discussed, were not included in the bid. I informed him his competitor's bid would have been cheaper and more accurate. To Mike's credit he did want to make things "right" and agreed to refund half of the labor over-charge. It took a second call before the refund check was sent. I am not sure if I would use this company again or not. I would be much more particular about the bids.

After doing several searches online for movers in the St. Louis area, I came across ABC Movers and noticed the most positive feedbacks from a competing website. This was my first time hiring movers so I tried to do the most due diligence I could to make the best decision. Their prices appeared very reasonable and I decided to make the call. My move was for a Sunday morning between 8:30am-9:30am. Kevin and Walt showed up on time right at 9am and were very personable (I am not a morning person but the premove coffee somehow worked) and engaging during the time they spent loading and carrying the items I had for my move. These guys were efficient, courteous with careful attention to detail during the duration of my 3 hour move. For those of you folks who are similar to me in terms of looking for a "quality moving experience" (no, I don't work for the company but it just sounded good), then I highly recomend giving these folks your business. Thanks again Kevin and Walt.

Bill and PJ arrived on time to the minute. They were both courteous, efficient and professional. Even though our move was only 10 miles, they treated it like a cross country move. Our furniture was padded, tied down and handled with care. They were very careful in both homes protecting floors, navigating stairs and dodging chandeliers. We would definitely hire them again.

They arrived on time and were very nice. They went to work right away. We had three men to help carry all our furniture. They were very careful with everything. They wrapped up things like glass shelving for dining room china cabinet and put blankets over delicate articles like our new flat panel tv. Everything was moved in and done very carefully. As previous people had said in other reviews, they did a great job and even put things exactly where you want them. It took only one trip because they use very large trucks. Nothing was broken or scratched. How often can you say that about moving?

The three men (Dennis, Nick & Tim) arrived at 9:00 AM as promised, took a quick look at what we wanted them to move, and immediately got to work. They worked very hard, were very courteous, and took good care of our furniture. The move went very smoothly with no problems at all. Also, the cost was right in the middle of the estimated cost range given to us a few weeks earlier. We were very satisified with all aspects of the move and would definitely use them again.
