The person from Construction Group came and inspected the attic for insulation and told me he would e-mail me the cost. His name was Scott Campbell. He did send the e-mail and the cost was $3131, which was minus the $99 I paid. The $99 for $500 worth of attic insulation was the tip of the iceberg and I cannot afford $3131.

Since the field inspector's visit I have asked for and received a proposal from Scott for repairs to my roof and gutters. I am still in the process of evaluating what exactly I plan to do in regards to needed repairs.
Description of Work: Contacted Scott at The Construction Group and asked if he would come to my home and check for roof damage from a recent severe hail storm we had in Eden Prairie. An appointment was made and Scott showed up (like usual) on time and proceeded to complete an evaluation of my roof, gutters and siding. Scott then provided me with a detailed evaluation of his findings which I used in filing a claim with my insurance company. On the day my insurance company came out, Scott was at my home to provide feedback to the field inspector. The insurance company was over 30 minutes late but Scott stayed until he arrived which was greatly appreciated.

It was disappointing. The service was non-factual. I had second estimate after that and they took pictures that receded what was stipulated in the first estimate. I did mention other things that I was considering over time but the primary issue was the ice shields which I believe to be an insulation issue. They said no new insulation was ever added, I did see pictures that we did have new insulation added in my mother's home. There was additional insulation added, someone else told me I have 12" of insulation which is a far cry from 3." They said I had no vents, and I have pictures of the vents. Because the insulation covers the vents, that's not possible through the shoot.
Description of Work: The Construction Group Inc. I asked them to come and look at an ice shield and they tried to sell me siding and soffits. They gave me a quote.

[removed member name] contacted our firm for an estimate to make repairs to her mother's home. The estimate included painting and repairing their wood soffit/fascia and water damaged siding in specific locations around the house. We were also asked to inspect the cause of interior water damage to the living room likely due to water infiltration from ice dams. After a thorough inspection of the home was completed, it was determined that the flashing along one sidewall of the house was not properly installed which was allowing water to seep inside the house. The siding was also visibly rotted due to water absorption and ice buildup in one location. One small area of siding replacement was recommended as well as properly water proofing and re-flashing of the trouble area. The insulation in the attic cavity below the area of damage was a combination of antiquated and compacted cellulose that had very little R- value due to its condition and some newer blown fiberglass insulation. The total existing R-value did not meet current code requirements (R-49). Additional insulation to augment the existing was recommended. It was also recommended to the customer to install aluminum soffit panels and fascia wraps on the house and garage in order to create a maintenance free exterior. Also the roof decking was concaved and substantially weakened due to water infiltration as well as the lack of an impermeable ice barrier that is currently required by code. When contacted during a follow up, the customer was confused about what needed to be addressed and stated that "she received several estimates and everyone told her something different" We took the time to further explain our findings from the inspection but the customer became distraught and terminated the conversation. It is unfortunate, and we are disappointed that after a very detailed inspection that we were unable to provide the customer with the services that we felt would mitigate the problems she was experiencing.

In a nutshell, the roof and fencing were damaged in a storm. We called the insurance adjuster and were told they would give us something like 1500 dollars to get it fixed. I signed up for Angies's List a few months ago, and called The Construction Group, because they were local. They came out and told us that 1500 dollars would not cover the repairs, so Scott, the owner, called the adjuster and told him that. Later that week we rec'd a check for the approx. $7, 000.00 and in the meantime we would get calls from The Construction Group telling us how they were to proceed. Day One: they removed the old roof and began replacing it Day Two: They finished the new roof Day Three: a carpenter came out and built the deck and the roll off was taken away. Don and I spent the next few days staining the fencing. We're VERY pleased.
Description of Work: The Construction Group removed our damaged garage roof, which had been leaking, and the fence surrounding the top of the garage, which was destroyed in one of the summer storms. We have a tuck under garage on the side of the house. The City of Maplewood requires us to have it fenced. The removed all the old roof and replaced it a new one, but this one had a slant to it, so all the rain would slide off the roof, rather than pool on top of it. The top of the roof never looked better. It now has insulation. They also designed a fence that was visually pleasing and fir the style of our home. They put all the old materials in a roll off dumpster. I had new tires put on my car, so I carefully inspected the driveway for nails, before I drove my car out of the garage. The were NO NAILS or debris in the driveway. I knew I would be writing a review and that you would want to know that.

Work performed at 2126/2124 Highwood Avenue, St. Paul (duplex). Feel free to drive by and take a gander. Previously, I acquired all the materials needed to perform my roofing job. I was hoping that the flashing would be reusable and I would not need vents replaced, so I did not obtain those materials. I obtained about 5 bids from contractors that are highly-rated on Angies List. Many of the bids were out of the ballpark, I assume because these guys perhaps receive many requests for bids, due to their high ratings. However, I also sought bids from contractors with less bids that were in my neighborhood, including The Construction Group. Scott Campbell's bid was the most reasonable, and it was what I was told I should expect to pay when I asked at the Menards building materials desk. They took care of dumpster delivery and that was delivered on time. They then quickly tore off the old roof, got it all in the dumpster, then put on the new roof. A couple of new vents needed to be installed, as well as my flashing needed to be replaced. They did a good job cleaning up and it was all done before dark. A nice bonus was that they put my gutterscreens back on, which required removal. Another bonus was that the flashing work and vent installation did not cost very much.
Description of Work: Dumpster delivery/removal. Shingle tear off, disposal into dumpster. Installation of felt underlayment, ice guard, shingles, flahsing, vents. clean up, with magnetic removal of nails.

Scott has been my Go To Guy for house repair questionsfor years. When we had excessive sonw on the roof last year I called him for advise regarding the potential problem of an ice dam forming on my roof. With Scott's advice I was able to take care of the problem my sell which fit into my budget at the time. In the spring we had several rainstorms that dumped a lot of water in a short period of time. I had noticed some leaking in one of my upstairs storage areas, but could not pinpoint it. I called Scott who came out found the problem. He sent two of his team over and the fixed the flashing around a roof vent that had been improperly installed. They were very efficent and were almost driving off before I could tell them thank you. I have never been disappointed by the work done by Scott or his team. I recommend The Construction Group to my friends and others all the time.

Our house was built in 1964, and back in 1986 I had new shingles put on the roof, gutters and downspouts replaced and vinyl siding/aluminum soffet etc put on. So it had been 26 long years since any of these had been done. After last winter, while the siding and soffets were doing fine, the shingles and gutter system were showing there age badly. I had the Xcel Energy man out and he told me, among many things, that I had about an R19 insulation factor in my attic (code is @ 49) So I decided that avoiding a problem now was far better than doing it one day too late. I had a couple friends who had similar work done in the recent past, but both were not thrilled with the people they had do their jobs and didn't recommend them. So having never used Angies's List before, I joined (certainly inexpensive enough to join) and started looking through the listings. I ended up getting 3 estimates - one higher and one lower than the one I used. I chose The Constructionn Group, Inc for several reasons: 1. the company was rated very well on Angie's List and was located in my part of town on the east side of the Metro Area. 2. the estimate was in the ballpark I expected ... high in the ballpark, but in .... 3. Scott Campbell, General Manager, visited me for the estimate himself, arrived promptly, he was both personable and very knowledgable. He explained the pros, cons and cost and quality differences for the varying optional materials that could be used for the job in a way that was understandable, and he invited questions and comparisons. 4. He could be ready to start the job within 7 - 10 days. 5. I didn't feel pressured by him. 6.He was able to point out to me houses in my area that had the 3 types of shingles I was considering so that I could see what a whole roof looked like (not just the samples) and compare the styles. 7. Our house has 3 huge maple trees in ithe yard with whirlybirds in the spring and leaves in the fall, and the gutters/downspouts have been a problem for years. I was tired of getting up on the roof and emptying them by hand (yuck!!!). Scott pointed out that the gutters/downspouts he recommended were 1" bigger in both dimensions than the old ones, and he was able to recommend a gutter cover that actually works!!! (he steered me away from the one-piece covered gutter and explained why...). 8. When Scott said he would call me or stop over to the house ....he did! ...and and in the time frame that he predicted! Like most people I think, I went into this process expecting if not the worst experience, at least a trying one. I'm pretty amazed to be able to tell you that my experience with this company was really good. All three crews (roofing, gutters/downspouts, insulation) were prompt, personable, efficient, the clean up was very good with all three crews (in the weeks since this was completed I have found a grand total of 2 nails in the yard ..... that's all, 2). Scott stopped into the job site several times during the process and when he said he would call me .... he did! As you can see, my experience with The Construction Group Inc was very good. Are they the cheapest? NO! ...but they're worth the difference. Give them a try, I think you'll be happy you did.
Description of Work: 1. Replace roof (including tear off) 2. Replace gutters and downspouts 3. Add insulation in the attic and assure that we had adequate ventilation to help avoid ice dams and reduce heating costs.

The crew and Scott Campbell were on time. A dumpster was delivered and picked back up after the job was completed. The entire job was completed in about 5 hours.
Description of Work: Partial reroofing project - I had shingles that were "curling" on my sunroom roof. I didn't want to risk going into another winter with a roof in that condition. The roof over this one area of the house was replaced. It matches perfectly and looks good. Some flashing around my chimney and vents were also replaced.

We would definitely consider The Construction Group for future projects.
Description of Work: We received a quote for roofing replacement after the May tornados in Minneapolis. The Construction Group was extremely responsive and thorough in preparing their quote for us---and went out of the way to make sure we understood the follow-up process with insurance since we'd already had an adjuster out. Ultimately, we selected another company to do the job out of four quotes received based on a variety of factors.

It was very expensive. It was over a thousand dollars. The job was pretty simple, but it took six guys and about 5 hours. If I had tried to do that myself, it would have taken me a month. It was not very specialized work. It was very straightforward. They just came out and did the snow removal. They did it fairly quickly. It was pretty expensive, but we had record snowfall this winter and all the roofing guys in the area were super busy. I was having some ice dams and had to move quickly so I paid the price they gave me. I probably would not use them again because they never followed up.

The roof was done first. From tear-off and inspection to ridge-vent install and vent caps was 2 days. Cleanup was done nightly. I was impressed with how professional the crew behaved. If they had to use the facilities, they cleaned off or took off their shoes first! The siding crew came in and did a partial tear-off because our Doors were back ordered. They wrapped, insulated, and installed the siding on the sides of the house that they could while we waited for the windows. When the windows came in (those were on time from Home Depot), the Doors back ordered again, so the crew adjusted the openings, installed the windows, taped the windows and then continued with the siding around the windows. The crew finished what they could while we waited for the Doors. The doors back ordered 2 more times and we were into December. Scott was very patient, and rearranged the crew schedule several times because of Jeld Wen and did not charge me any extra. Even when it snowed, the crew cleared the roof of snow around where they were working. After the big blizzard, I contracted with Scott to completely remove the snow from the roof which his crew did swiftly and neatly. Jeld Wen finally told me that they could not get the fiberglass for the doors and would I like steel doors instead. I changed the order and we finally got the doors at the end of December on a Friday. Scott's crew came on Monday and installed the doors, finished the siding around the doors, and wrapped the doors, and then finished the soffit and fascia. The next week the gutter crew came in and installed the gutters and downspouts. Today, Scott came himself and installed the gutter screens, as we had to wait for the weather to warm up so as not to damage the roof, and cleaned up all the mess that was trapped under the snow. The building inspector came and signed off on the paperwork. Except for the Doors which I ordered independently for Home Depot, this job went well from his initial visit to the final cleanup. Even when I changed siding brands and colors, Scott was always courteous and helpful!

I love having a full bathroom downstairs. It adds so much to the house. It was a very dirty project,it can't be helped with that kind of a job, but they cleaned up their work each day and when the job was done everything was removed. Overall, the job went smoothly, men were on time, treated my home carefully, had inspectors there to approve the work and basically handled everything. The time it took was definitely worth it for the new bathroom. I know having this nice new bath helped to sell my house. (see photos) The men were really good to work with and I was comfortable with them in my home.
Description of Work: I was preparing my house for sale and wanted to add a second full bathroom downstairs. I called The Construction Group because I had used their services before. They had a relatively small area to work in, but they did a really good job. It was a dirty job due to jack hammering the concrete floor for new plumbing. They assisted me with the room layout design and helped me to understand what would need to be done. We agreed on the schedule, design and pricing. They actually came in a little below the budget so I upgraded a couple of items. They really had good ideas regarding how to best use the space I had. They helped me pick out the shower/tub unit, vanity, toilet, mirror, lighting and storage cabinet. I had put off this project for years and now I wish I would have called them much sooner so I could enjoy this new bathroom. Having a second bathroom definitely helped to sell my home...in 8 days.

Updating the main bathroom made a huge difference in making the whole house seem newer and fresher. The job came in right on budget and actually was done a few days earlier than expected. We didn't find any unexpected problems and all the new fixtures fix well. They had everything scheduled very well. I was very happy with the quality of work and I was always made aware of what they were doing and how it was progressing. It turned out just beautiful, everyone who toured the house commented on what a beautiful bathroom. My house was built in 1952, so they are surprised to see an updated main bath. I'm sure it had a lot to do with my home selling in just 8 days. Thanks to the great work by The Construction Group.
Description of Work: Updated the upstairs bathroom. I called The Construction Group to do this work. They had just finished a new full bathroom in my lower level. Prior to selling my house I decided to update the upstairs main full bathroom. Old floor was removed and a new slate floor laid, toilet, vanity, medicine cabinet replaced. All new wiring installed. Wallpaper stripped and wall prepared for and painted. Installed new larger medicine cabinet and new lighting and exhaust fan. (see photos)

This was a big undertaking due to the size of the house and height of the ceilings, plus I was living in the house while all of this was done. The Construction Group painted all of the interior of my home (approx. 3200 sq. ft.). They arrived on time, cleaned up each day before they left and always called if there was a change of time. I appreciate their professionalism, and especially the care that was taken of my home, carpet, furniture, etc. Their painting has transformed my house into a lovely home.
Description of Work: I moved into a very large new home and wanted it completely repainted. Almost every wall was a nondescript beige. I contacted The Construction Group who had painted in my previous home. I knew I could count on them to do a good since this would take awhile and things would have to be moved around. It was a very big undertaking with approx. 3200 Sq. ft. and high ceilings. Once I had selected my colors, we worked together to schedule painting of each room, how it would be done, how long it would take and of course the cost. I would be living in the house while the work was done, so it was important to know what would be happening. They arrived each day at the agreed upon time and cleaned up at the end of each day. They prepared the walls, covered my furnishings and painted each room with as little disruption as possible. They worked quickly and always took special care with my furnishings and carpeting. They did an excellent job and my rooms/walls are lovely.

I have used the services of The Construction Group several times and this time it was for a new roof. They are experts at removing, repairing and installing a new roof. I was a little stressed at getting my home ready for sale and finding that I needed a new roof. They handled the problem for me and I didn't have to worry about anything. They were on time and efficient. The crew was very careful of my plantings and yard. The clean-up was very good.
Description of Work: Before putting my house up for sale, it was suggested I put on a new roof. There was a lot of rotting and shingle deterioration. I called The Construction Group who specializes in roofs. They came out and inspected the roof and vents. We agreed on a time, price and shingle that was right for the house. They ordered all the necessary things to get the job done. They were on time each day as they quickly removed all the old shingles and repaired the areas that were bad. They did a good job of cleaning up all the little pieces that can sometimes be left after a roofing job. The house looked so much nicer with the new roof and I was more confident in the asking price when it came time to sell. Because of the new roof and other exterior changes, my house sold in 8 days. I called The Construction Group because they have worked for me in the past and have always done a very good job. They were on time for our initial appointment and for the day of work. He worked quickly, came with all the materials needed and did a very good clean-up. I didn't know how he would get two stories up to hang gutters, but when you know what you are doing, it works great. I didn't know you could get excited about gutters, but I just love them and they give my new home a finished look plus keeping the water from washing away my flowers and splattering mud on the side of my house. They did a perfect job and I know I'll call them again. I trust their work and their pricing is affordable.
Description of Work: My new house needed gutters across the back. I called The Construction Group because I have used them in the past for exterior jobs on my other house and I knew they would do a good job. They came out right away and viewed the house and ordered the materials. The installation was done in one day. The cleanup was perfect. New gutters and downspouts were installed on the back of my new patio home, two stories up. There were none there before. I had a big "waterfall" every time it rained. They selected the right size gutter and color for my home. I'm in an association, so the materials, color, etc. have to be just right. The gutters had to be cut at different angles to protect the deck too. It is so nice not to have a downfall of water onto the deck and in the flower beds. They did a great job.

The Construction Group did a "great" job refinishing my deck (see photos). They are always on time, call first to confirm our appointment and work in a professional manner. I have used their services several times on various home projects and I trust their work. I especially like that they keep me informed as to how they will do the work and give me a realistic work time schedule. Also, very important to me is the clean-up and that has always been done to my satisfaction. My deck looks better than new and it's a pleasure to show it off to me friends during my summer parties.
Description of Work: I moved into a patio home that was five years old and no one had ever sealed or stained the wooden deck. It was very rough and faded. It's a second story deck. I called The Construction Group who had completely rebuilt my deck at my previous home to do the work. First they inspected the deck and supports and found that only the side boards needed to be replaced and confirmed the deck was structurally sound. I could see the side boards had warped. After checking with my association, who provided several approved stain colors The Construction Group went to work on removing the metal railings and then the warped boards. They replaced the large side boards and then sanded all of the deck including the structural support posts. I couldn't believe the difference after just a good sanding. They applied several coats using an oil based stain. It took a couple of days due to the drying time between coats. My deck looked brand new. During the first rain it was fun to see the water "bead" up on the wood.

I discovered water starting to leak through my living room ceiling on Friday evening and determined it was the result of the ice dams on my roof. I submitted an on-line inquiry to the Construction Group that night and received a call back shortly after 8am on Saturday. The general manager showed up with a contract at 10:30am. He was courteous, punctual and professional. Unfortunately, after this is where my experience starts to differ from the other reports I had read on Angie's List. He didn't offer an overall estimate, but a rate of $75 per man-hour. He said his crew would show up "some time after eleven". The four-man crew showed up at noon, which is still pretty good, but a little disappointing compared with the previous level of punctuality.(and I'm probably a little biased, since I spent the time watching my leaks get bigger) What really disappointed me was that the crew didn't make any attempt to make contact with me. They just went up on the roof without confirming they were at the right house, or having the courtesy to at least introduce themselves, and left without the courtesy of letting me know they were done. On top of that, the crew sat in their van in my driveway for 15 minutes after they were done and completely packed up. Overall, the quality of the work appears to have been good and the efficiency good, except for the 15 minutes sitting in my driveway. When I received the invoice for the work, it became clear that I was being charged for those extra 15 minutes.(which worked out to being charged a full man-hour, or $75, too much) When I expressed concern about this, the general manager admitted to rounding up the time to a full two hours(aka, a total of 8 man-hours). He then tried to feed me a line that he would have rounded down had the time been close to one full hour, a line I consider to be little better than an outright lie. In the end, we agreed to a $50 reduction in the invoice. The Construction Group may be a good option if you don't mind having a work crew that won't interact with you and you don't mind having to make sure you don't get over charged. Both these point matter to me, so I won't be using their services again.
Description of Work: Removal of ice dams from roof that were causing leaks. Removal was done using hammers and shovels - no steamers.

Response from The Construction Group Inc
We at The Construction Group Inc. were quite surprised to receive this report. The customer contacted us on a Saturday morning to report his leakage. Our schedule was already full with a 4-5 day wait however, we gave this customer priority anyway because I could since his great concern over his leaking house. As the customer stated the crew showed up within a very reasonable period of time. (We never schedule precise start times because each removal project is unique and it is impossible to gauge exactly how long the job the crew is currently working on will take.) Secondly, the workers are instructed not to make contact with the customer as the salesman of the job is the primary contact person. Lastly 15 minutes to load up tools and equipment is not an unreasonable amount of time, and the loading and unloading of tools and equipment for a project of any kind is always billable time as the job cannot be completed without it. Basically, the grade in this report is unwarranted. We went to great lengths to modify our schedule at the last minute to insure this customer was provided with excellent and immediate emergency service which we delivered. We are sorry that we were unable to meet this customer’s expectations.delay.
