John Kivel Electric

John Kivel Electric was able to help me out with some last minute electrical work that needed to be performed before the sale of my house. Communication, service and price were all great. I would highly recommend John Kivel Electric and would use them again if needed.

Called up John who gave me an estimate based on my cryptic description of what needed to be done. After agreeing to his estimate he called me a few days later with a date he could swing by. While I was at work, he completed the work to my satisfaction. Interestingly, my 16 year old son (who was home at the time), commented on how nice John was.

John is very pleasant and professional. Our jobs took two days to complete and he was here each day as promised. The work done was exceptional. Included in the cost listed above were all supplies including a new whisper quiet bathroom vent fan. We are extremely pleased with the outcome of all four jobs. John left the work places spotless when done. I would highly recommend John Kivel Electric to friends and family. John is honest and stuck to his estimated costs even though one job took longer than estimated.

John responded to my inquiry quickly and scheduled next-day repair which was much appreciated. Work was as quoted.

John Kivel was very professional and thorough. He was very nice and he was far cheaper than the original estimate we had received from Mister Sparky Electric. He will be my go to for Electric work going forward.

Asked John for an over the phone quote, which he did. I hired another electrician who had a lower price.

John and his brother Jim removed a double wall oven from our kitchen and installed a new one we'd bought from Lowe's. They were on time. Were very focused on doing the job right. Were very respectful of the house ie careful not to scratch anything. And were done in an hour. Thanks guys great work.

I had ordered the new fans myself and John was able to install both of them. He had to enlarge the ceiling hole to accomplish this but was clear with us what the result would be and that we'd have to figure out how to patch them. The new fans are so quiet and work great. John was on time and did a great job.

I have found the electrician for me! I called John Kivel Electric with somewhat of an emergency situation and to my great relief, John responded to my call in a professional and caring manner. He quickly determined the problem and fixed it. His pricing was reasonable and he took the time to answer my questions. I plan to have a major electrical upgrade done in early summer and, without question, John Kivel Electric will be the company to do the job! I?ve put their phone number in my book.

I searched Angie's List for nearby electricians, and found John Kivel with an A rating. I called mid-morning, explained what I wanted done, and they were here by mid-afternoon. It took John no time at all to install the detector, and he also checked out a carbon monoxide detector that had been "chirping", and pronounced it to be defective (and not needed since the new detector had one built in). They were very nice - professional and pleasant. I have already recommended him to a neighbor.

John was very responsive and arrives on time. He keeps me informed of what he's doing. He's done 3 service calls over the past couple years, all with good results.

Tried to contact him 2-3 times through e mail without response. Found a card with phone number and called . He answered and agreed to come out on a certain date to put in ceiling fan. He had put in heated ceiling fan in 2nd bathroom 2 years prior and at that time stated he had wired for furture installation of main bathroom fan. On day of service, called 20 minutes after initial designated time of arrival and said he was on his way to pick up fan. Then states that this service would be around $900. I questioned him re this and informed him of prior wiring done, He stated that he would need to do more wiring and it would need to be $900. I needed to have this work done and thus agreed to have him do the job. He came with another person to do the job. Took about 2 hours. After done and when I used the fan, the blower for heat was directed at the wall and I could not find a way to change the direction to be into the room. Called John and he said that in order to change the fan, ie turn it around to direct heat to the room, would cost me another $300. I said I did not want to pay for this and was upset that it did not work well for me. Had another electrition come for electrical work on fireplace and he took a look at bathroom fan and found that vent would turn to direction I wanted. Also had energy auditor out and in attic inspection found that vent from fan to roof was off and that John had left old fan housing up in attic. called him and he will come out and fix at no charge. Also learned from another party that a permit should be pulled for heated attic vents and this was not offered or done.

We just purchased a 90+ yr old home for which are only the 3rd owners ever. The last family was here for nearly 60 years and the electric upgrade needed was significant. We took bids from others rated highly on Angie's List, but Kivel Electric stood out to us the most because of their creativity in finding solutions to issues that were not straight-forward. Any time John & Jim did work on the house they checked in with us for feedback on the work they had done that day. Additionally, there were two times that they came out on SUNDAY morning to make non-emergency repairs. They explained things well and were always very friendly. I considered the cost to be very reasonable considering the work they did in the time it took. They are definitely our go-to electricians for future needs!

He had a box with him to install the light I had purchased earlier. Went great. I have light in the driveway now.

John was great. He gave a fair estimate. Worked hard. Solved the problem with creative methods. Found a couple of fire hazards as he was solving the problem, and resolved them, and did everything for the original estimate. Highly recommended.

I was very impressed w/ how responsive John was; he knew I was nervous about how the lights had been left and put effort into getting to me as quickly as he could: that was very appreciated. He came straight from another job and had 2 other workers w/ him; all 3 were friendly & professional. The job was taken care of quickly. I would definitely recommend him to others, and would have no qualms about calling them again. The only question I had that wasn't answered (as can be seen on the message board) was about the price. After the job was done, I realized I hadn't asked about what was included in the price: they were here about 10-15 minutes and the cost was $175. That question was answered very quickly via e-mail: I was told it was $150 for a service call & then $25 for supplies. I then asked if this was per hour or per call, and that was never answered. A few years ago when I had an electrician come over, he charged me by the hour and kept working on jobs for that hour. So, this is the only question that remains: I'd like to know what all the $150 service charge covers (i.e., per hour, etc.). (This is why I put N/A on the grading scale, instead of giving a grade.) Again, excellent job, and again, I greatly appreciated the effort John put into getting over here as quickly as was possible.

I called John out of the blue at about 8am asking for help sorting out a ceiling fixture where I had lost track of the proper wiring. He came over two hours later even though I had never been a customer before. In about 15 minutes he sorted out the problem, gave me a brief lesson in how to troubleshoot this kind of issue myself, and gave me a $50 discount because I was planning to complete the installation of the fixture and light switch myself. John was very responsive, very communicative, and very helpful. I'll definitely call him again if I need help.

John promptly returned my message. We agreed on a time and after diagnosing the issue, it was quickly resolved.

John is easy to work with. He answers the phone himself, right away.

When I called to get an idea of how much John would charge and when he was available to do the work, he told me over the phone approximately how much it would cost to disconnect the electricity to the garage. When I told John I needed the work done ASAP, he said he could come over within a few days. John called me before he came over, as I had requested, and he and his brother were able to complete the work in approx. 30-45 minutes. They were both very polite, seemed very knowledgeable, and were easy to work with. I also really appreciated the fact that they fit me into their schedule so quickly, as other electricians that I had called said they couldn't do the work for two weeks. It was nice that they worked as a team because that allowed them to get the job done much more efficiently and quickly. The cost was what John had quoted me over the phone. I would definitely hire them again.

I called John on Friday morning and he was able to fit me into his schedule at the last minute on Friday afternoon. I was impressed with his professionalism and responsiveness. He quoted me a price for the work over the phone and he honored that price in spite of the fact that the work took a little more time than expected. He is an outstanding provider. I will definitely call him again if I ever need an electrician.

It went great! After a week of trying all the obvious things, circuit breaker, fuses, GFI buttons I had no idea what else to do. Excel said it was not their issue call an electrician. I had no idea how to proceed, I had plenty of unsolicited advice and untrained "helpers" volunteering to step in, and was feeling desperate. John immediately set an appointment for Saturday, which I never expected with a holiday on Friday, then he called early as he was available earlier than expected, and came right over. It did not take long for him to diagnose the issue and come up with a solution. He was thorough and looked at all my concerns and fixed the immediate problem. Since my house is quite old and so is its wiring I knew having an electrician look at it was likely going to produce a long list of recommendations for updating the electrical. I was expecting a hard sale on getting my whole house rewired but he didn't do that. He explained the issues and the urgency, gave me a ball park figure so I know how much I am going to need to get this all corrected and recommended how we could work it in phases to help with the budgeting. Exactly what I needed!! I cannot express enough gratitude for his professionalism and understanding. He took me seriously, addressed my concerns and did not push me to do something I cannot afford which in my experience not easy to find. Thank you!!!
