We purchased a new track light, took one look at the directions and decided to call a professional electrician! I called John on a Wednesday and he was able to fit us in the next day. A pleasure to speak with on the phone and in person. He quickly removed an old track lighting fixture and replaced with a new fixture. It looks beautiful, the install was flawless and he was done in no time. We will definitely use him in the future - great service, great pricing, highly recommend!

John was able to come out a day or two after I called. I had two switches that weren't working. Both were dimmer switches attached to compact flourescents. One didn't work at all. The other would not stay on. I had John replace them both with regular switches. I also have a ceiling fan in which one of the bulbs had exploded -- the metal part of the lightbulb was in there and I couldn't get it out. He got that out for me. So now I have all the lights working. All of this took less than an hour. The best part was that John is one of those happy, pleasant people who are just fun to have around. It was a pleasure working with him. He told me that he comes from a family of electricians -- his father AND his mother are electricians. So I suppose it's hard-wired for him. I'm keeping his card on file so I can just call him straight away next time. He does big jobs too, and I'm thinking about some remodeling projects that will involve complete rewiring for parts of the house.

Everything was excellent. John is very knowledgeable which was apparent in the initial quote visit -- when I first called he was at lunch just a mile down the road and was at my house in about 5 minutes! Also extremely courteous every step of the way, he and his team were prompt, professional and did a great job, on time (in fact done a wee bit early) & on budget. Went the extra mile to make sure everything was just right. Went so smoothly and the result so cool it made me wish we'd had this done sooner! Would definitely use them again for future projects & recommend them to friends.

He was on time for the bid, listened well and gave me a price, which was 40% less than the others. He agreed to do the job and was available the next day. He and his journeyman (Frank) showed up on time and began immediately. They encountered many obstacles as my house is old and wiring suspect. The found a way to make it work and got the job done. I've already made plans for John and Frank to come back and clean up my basement wiring.

After losing our electricity in our kitchen (including our refrigerator) and office area on a Saturday morning, we call Kivel Electric and talked with John Kivel. He works on Saturdays and was able to come immediately. The problem was more complex than we thought and it took some problem-solving to fix. He did fix the problem, got everything up and running, and he charged a very reasonable price. We are happy with his work and we will hire him again to improve our electrical system. Our house was built in 1893 and he seems quite knowledgeable about old houses and electrical systems.

I felt the price was very reasonable. When they were cleaning up, they forgot to put some of the tile in the ceiling back up, but they came back right away and fixed that.

After losing power to my bathroom and office and figuring out on my own that it wasn't a simple fuse problem, I called John Kivel at about 8:15 on a Friday morning. He said he was in the neighborhood and asked if he could stop by to take a look. He was at my door 10 minutes later. The first thing I said to him was 'wow, that's service - I call and you're at my door in 10 minutes!' The rest of my experience with John was equally positive. He spent about 90 minutes on that first visit, testing to make sure all circuits in the fuse box were working and testing each outlet and fixture in the affected rooms to see if he could fix the problem. He determined it was probably a problem with the wiring in the wall and said he would have to come back to run some new wire and add a new circuit to the fuse box. He asked whether I would prefer he bid the job or work on time and materials and told me which would probably be most beneficial to me for my job. He then said he may be able to come back during the weekend and wouldn't charge me extra for doing so. He called Saturday to say he could come by Sunday morning to do the job. On Sunday he and his brother Jim (who was working as his apprentice) arrived 15 minutes early and immediately got to work. They were fast and efficient and worked together like a well-oiled machine. John explained everything to me and made sure I understood why they were doing what they were doing. They finished the job in only 90 minutes, which I very much appreciated since I opted to pay him hourly rather than a flat rate bid for the job. As a single female homeowner, I really appreciated that John was honest and forthright and explained things to me and that he is concerned and conscientious about keeping the costs of the job as low as possible. My house was built in the 1880's and John does a lot of work on old houses, so he understands the quirks and eccentricities of homes that were wired way back when. I have already referred John to my sister for some work she needs done and will absolutely call him the next time I need any electrical work done.

Overall it went well, there were a number of miscellaneous items that were missed but John came back and fixed them within a day. A couple of other mis-understandings were left unfinished however it was a big project and he did include a couple of extras at no additional charge.

Very well. We set up a schedule that worked with my time line and were able to complete the project so that I am extremely happy with the results. John worked with me to think of items that I may have forgotten so that the end result is exactly what I wanted.

Kivel Electric was one of three companies I called to get estimates. John Kivel called back promptly in response to my voicemail, and in our conversation it was clear that he understood that we were looking for a cost-effective way to make sure the work my husband had done would pass the electrical inspection. He was able to come out the next day to take a look at the state of the project. He arrived exactly on time for the estimate. After taking a look, John proposed that he come out on a weekend when my husband would be available to work with him, and estimated they could get it to completed and inspection-ready after 3 hours, for a cost of $300. This approach was more flexible than the other company that called me back. We decided to go ahead with Kivel. He was able to come out the next weekend, which would have been great, but we had some out-of-town trips. On the date we set for the work, John arrived about half an hour after the agreed-upon-time. He and my husband finished in 2 1/2 hours, for which we were charged $350. (John did supply some parts and bulbs.) He had knowledgeable advice about current inspection expectations. On his first visit, he had noticed that our exterior service, where the power runs into the house, was mounted too low for safety, given the height of the mudroom deck that had been added. When we asked about correcting this on his second visit, he made a sensible suggestion of re-mounting the power and meter on the garage, and running an underground line a trench to the house. This would allow the garage to be more useful as a shop, and also remove the unsafe and unattractive overhead line. He explained what he would do to correct it, and quoted a rough price of $2700. He also encouraged us to contact Xcel first, as a fix through them would be about $900 less if they would accept responsibilty. I appreciated his knowledge and fairness in pointing that out.

Mr. Kivel was referred to us by our primary contractor. John was very easy to work with and did an excellent job within the time frame we had requested. We would certainly use him again for other work that we may need.

John goes the extra mile. He will not cut corners and will advise the customer what he thinks you should do. Very honest! He explained to us what he was doing the whole time he was doing the job.
