We called Kivel Electic because the power was out in a few rooms and the company had an A rating with Angies. John showed up the same day, took a look at the breaker, put in a new breaker, and switched some things around. He realized there was something else going on and presented the issue and gave a very reasonable quote. On this initial visit he only charged us his service call fee because he will be returning to complete the needed work in a week. John is courteous, punctual and professional... We are happy to have him complete the job and will write a final update when the work is complete.

I called Kivel Electric about noon and was able to schedule an appointment for 3:30 the same day. Actually, John and his helper arrived about 2:00 with a new smoke alarm in hand in case the one we had was faulty. As it turned out, the alarm wasn't connected so they wired it so that it would perform as it should for our housing inspection. They were in and out of here in about 30 minutes. Both John and his helper were very polite and helpful.

I have used Kivel Electric twice now. When I called John he was responsive, direct and had my work done within a couple days of calling him. He is able to troubleshoot quickly and provides quality craftsmanship. I appreciated that he provided options and didn't try to upsell, even though it was a small job. I am very happy with the work that was done and with the overall experience. John is one of those rare finds. Not only does he do a great job, he is honest and professional and his character and integrity are refreshing. I highly recommend Kivel Electric.

Great! John came to do an estimate the day after I called, and said he had a cancellation the next day, so could do the work then. He was very personable and professional, and worked quickly and quietly. The fan and ceiling fixture work perfectly.

I called in the am on the day I noticed a kitchen light fixture had fallen and was hanging by wires. Within 2-3 hours John Kivel came by and reinstalled the fixture (non-emergent call). He also looked over some lighting by the garage and gave tips on work that could be done for backyard lighting. He was punctual, pleasant and professional

John and his crew did a great job. He knows what he is doing and I feel very confident that it was money well spent to have it done right. I would definitely use him again.

John was GREAT - very professional, great communicator. John had a lot of good suggestions for us along the way which really helped refine our electrical. You can tell he knows exactly what he is doing - I felt that we were in great hands. He made a few trips back to help us with small things along the way and made sure we had some working electrical during construction which was a life-saver!

When I plugged a toaster oven into one of the outlets in my kitchen, it sparked and blew out three outlets (including the one that the stove is plugged into). I tried resetting them at the circuit breaker, but the outlets still didn't work. I was afraid that there was more damage to the wiring, so I called John Kivel based on his listing on Angie's List. He was able to come over in less than an hour and fixed the problem quickly. It actually was just a circuit breaker issue; apparently I hadn't flipped the right switch (the breakers aren't labeled very well). While John was at my house, I was able to ask him about a few other electrical projects that I've been considering (3-way light switches, exterior outlets).

I found Kivel Electric on Angie's List and called mid-morning on a Tuesday. John picked up immediately and arranged to meet me at my house just two hours later. I was having difficulty with false alarms from a smoke detector too near the kitchen, and John came up with a solution that would solve the problem. He told me how much the work was going to be and that he could do the work the following Friday. I said that was fine, but when John realized that I would have to take time off work, he immediately offered to come on Saturday instead. He arrived just on time on Saturday and did the work we discussed. I also had him install a programmable thermostat since he was already going to be here. He and his assistant were fast and efficient and cleaned up after they were done. I wish every person I call to do work on my house could be this prompt, courteous, and professional. From the first phone call to the final payment John was helpful, communicative, and thoughtful. He is also just a nice guy who was pleasant to have in my house.

Called and left message. He called back in a FEW MINUTES AND MADE APPOINTMENT TIME TO COME THAT DAY. HERE ON TIME. WENT TO WORK RIGHT AWAY AND CLEANED UP WHEN DONE. GAVE ME DISCOUNT ON COST.

This was an emergency call. a light fixture had started sparking and smoking. John was at my house within 40 minutes of my calling him. He advised me taht I could save myself some money if I went out myself and got a replacement fixture, but when I wasn't able to he was completely willing to take care of it for me, just wanted me to be aware of the cost. He replaced the fixture and installed a new box to bring it up to code. I am happy with the workmanship and the price was very fair.

John was great- I own a triplex ( rent two floors and live on one) and want to attend to repairs as soon as I can. He was able to met with me and make arrangements to do the work within two days. I was very happy with the work- and very grateful for a job well done- yesterday there was a kitchen fire in one of the renters apartments. Having the fire detectors hard wired - to all levels got the attention of one of the other renters who was able to assist in putting out the fire before anyone was hurt and before very much damage was done.

They arrived at the scheduled time, assessed the job, picked up additional parts, and completed the job quickly, and cleaned up the work area at an excellent price! I have more electrical work that needs to be done and will definitely be using them again in the near future. Thanks Guys!

John and his subcontractors were very professional and courteous. John was always on time, completed the work on par with what he estimated. I trusted him in my house without me being home. His price was very reasonable compared to other estimates I received. He completed conversion of the fuse to breaker in one day, he completely wired the half story in one day with the help of 3 other people (all of which were great). As soon as the sheetrock was complete he came over and completed the job by putting the remaining light fixtures, outlet covers, and switch covers in place. A few days later he completed the remaining tasks of getting the remainder house up to St. Paul electrical code. Overall I would highly recommend John, he was very easy to work with.

John was able to quickly figure out that the fan was not working and that the fixture was wired to the same switch as another fixture in the room. He and my husband worked together to remove the fan and install a cumbersome chandelier in its place. Since John only spent an hour on this project, I felt the price was a little high. He offered to come back and rewire things so that the two fixtures operated on separate switches. He said he would only charge us $80 for that service. That would bring the price to a more reasonable average in my opinion.

John Kivel and his partner showed up right on time. We compared our job lists (from the original estimate/visit John made a week earlier) so as not to over look anything. Due to work schedules, we could not be home during the work, but felt quite comfortable with John having full access to our home even though we barely knew him. They completed (starting the job at 8am) around 3:30pm with a phone call from John stating they had finished with the exception of bringing power into the fireplace box. I had to contact Fireside to get details for John as to exactly where the power source should be mounted within the firebox. After providing details for John, he completed this final work on the following Saturday. We are very satisfied with the work he did and how clean we found our home. We will most definitely hire again for any future electrical needs.

John was great fun to work with on the project. He arrived early and got the job done quickly and without tearing up the ceiling. (Other contractors said the entire sheetrock ceiling would have to be removed and replaced at additional cost.) John and his brother were helpful with layout ideas. I absolutely would call John for any future electrical work. Fast and fair quote, project done quickly, fun guys to work with...it was a very satisfying experience.

Was seeking an electrician to diagnose wiring problem with sconces I was installing. I called John about 8:00 one morning, he said he would be right over & arrived about 9:00. He identified wiring that had pulled loose & disconnected from the switch and rewired it. He also explained how the various old and new wiring at the switch & fixtures was connected to other outlets in the room. He charged me a flat fee for trip and 45 mins work.

John worked quickly, efficiently, and intelligently. We were extremely pleased with the quality and of his work.
