John Kivel Electric

I am very disappointed that my first experience with trying to seek reliable vendors to perform work wasn't a positive situation for me. I had hoped by using Angie's List I could expect the vendors to be professional. I would be afraid to use this individual to do any work at my home, as given the fact he didn't call or show up, doesn't speak well of him.

I called John late yesterday evening and he was able to come out first thing this morning to take care of an electrical issue in our kitchen. He was on time and completed his work in a timely manner. He also took time to discuss some additional work he could do to improve our kitchen electricals in order to better handle our electrical usage, and did not pressure us to make a decision right away. Overall, very good service and experience.

It went very well and we will be calling him back to work on a couple of other projects.

He responded incredibly quickly. He was out within a couple of hours of me calling him. He got it all fixed and taken care of really quickly. My experience with him was very good.

John and Frank arrived when they said they would. I had a list of electrical problems that I wanted to address. John gave me a price per project (rather than a per hour charge) so that I could decide whether or not I wanted to/could afford to do each thing. They were here for about two hours. They were very pleasant, courteous, efficient, gave options and explained what they were doing and why, cleaned up after themselves. I would not hesitate to call them again. I did not compare prices with any other electrician, but the cost seemed reasonable for the amount of time they were here.

It was great. The sconces were tricky to install because they were designed to have the electrical cord hanging beneath them on the outside of the wall and be plugged into an outlet (ie. in full view). John was very thorough, thoughtful and creative in figuring out the best way to install the sconces on our plaster wall so that the cords were kept behind the wall and they were linked to an existing switch. We never thought this feat was possible! The sconces look like they've always been there; we love them! There was no damage whatsoever to the plaster wall, either. We are also very happy with the in-floor outlet (no more extension cords in our living room for a table lamp) and the fix for the washing machine. The washing machine outlet kept shutting down the machine, so we had had extension cords running to another outlet. Now it works beautifully and we don't have to worry about tripping on cords. We highly recommend John and his team for quality work and creative problem-solving.

John was awesome. My wife and I started a remodel of an upstairs room that was outdated and needed some electrical help. I called John, and he answered and was very courteous on the phone even though I could tell he was on a job site. He took down my info and I asked if he could come out the same day to give me an estimate and walk him through what we wanted. He said it was no problem, and he came the same day for a quote! He gave me the run-down of how it would work and we scheduled a time for him to come back to do the work. John showed up on time and the first thing he said was that he had some ideas for our project as far as lighting goes. He goes, "what about recessed lighting in the ceiling?" My wife and I looked at each other and were like, "heck yeah!" It was such a good idea - we didn't think about cans. We tore down old ceiling and are going to drywall the ceiling so it totally made sense. He installed 3 cans up in the joists, did the fan switch, outlet, ran new wire from a NEW circuit, and re-routed old heavy conduit and cleaned up old wire (cloth-wrapped from the '30s). Since we hadn't sheet-rocked yet, he left the wires for the ceiling fan accessible, and he made it so we could put a dimmer switch on the lighting cans and a fan-speed controller on the fan switch. Awesome! He was great throughout the whole job, and I would recommend him in a heartbeat.

I'll most likely follow up to have him go forward with the job!

I called John on a Friday to see if he could come fix a light swtich in my office. It was making a crackling noise whenever I turned on the light. He couldn't come on Friday but he came on Saturday afternoon- - right on time. I just asked him to fix the switch but remembered that I had 5 exterior light fixtures that I wanted to replace. He was so kind to fit that project in, too! The fixtures had to be adjusted a bit to fit the mount and he did a great job. He is a very experienced electrician and is a very nice guy. He gave me a bit of a price break on the fixture installations and I appreciated that, too! I will definintely contact John Kivel again, regarding any electrical needs!

Contacted John and he was able to come out on short notice. Believe I called Monday morning for a late afternoon appointment on Tuesday. John and his partner Frank took a look at the work to be done and told me what they'd be able to do and gave a price before beginning work. All sounded typical and the price was good for the work to be done. They spent about 30 minutes undoing the old outlet fixture and fuse, and replaced it with a new box and outlet. While even they thought the old outlet to be a bit strange, they certainly knew what they were doing to convert it over to something usable. They did a great job of cleaning up the work area when they were complete. Good as when they started.

If you need residential electrical help--John is your man. I give him my highest recommendation.John and his apprentice "T" came within minutes of promised time, performed troubleshooting in two places in our home quickly and efficiently. We would use John again and recommend his services to others. John Kivel Electrical is a 10 out of 10!

John and Frank are at it again these guys rock ! I needed three ceiling fans replaced in my upstairs, I took the old ones down and the wiring in the ceiling was just a mess, after trying to install the fans myself and getting shocked I knew I had to call the professionals. They bidded the job without the ceiling fans hung as I said I could do it myself, I just needed the wiring fixed. When I got home all the fans were hung up beautifully and all the mess from the job was cleaned up ! These guys do a real professional job and are friendly and personable to boot. I will never need to search for another electrician because these guys are the stone cold best

We were having an electrical issue in our home, and called to get service, he came out at exactly the time he said he would and looked at our outlets and light fixtures. He found the problem quickly, and replaced the outlet and made suggestions on how to prevent the problem in the future throughout our home. He was very nice and cleaned up the dust after he was done. Very helpful, would definitely call again for any future electrical work. He was very knowledgeable and helpful.

He presented himself well. I think the price was a little too much for me.

John arrived as promised for an estimate, and gave a very thorough explanation of what he would do. I immediately scheduled the work to be done because he was the only contractor who knew what they were doing. He finished the work very quickly, walked me through what he did, and he even came in under the estimated amount. He obtained the permits, and the inspection of his work passed with flying colors. Through the whole process he was extremely professional, kind, punctual, and clean. He also provided us with some prices for some minor upgrades after he work was done. Simply put, this is the guy you want working on your project at any price.

John was truly outstanding. Great communication from start to finish. I contacted him and he let me know he was pretty booked up. But I already had a Dry Wall Contractor scheduled and needed him to help me on short notice. John made time for my job, which I truly appreciate. John showed up exactly when he said he would. He was very friendly and professional and made suggestions that helped me out quite a bit (made the final appearance of house better). The cost was exactly what he said it would be. A great electrician that I will have in my home again when I remodel my kitchen. Would highly recommend John Kivel. I called Kivel Electric, on a Saturday morning and the owner John Kivel was able to come out that same day. He called me to let me know when he was on his way and was prompt. Both John and a young apprentice that was with him were professional. I had a light switch replaced. It sparked when turned on so I was grateful that I could get it fixed so fast. A motion light wasn't working and just ended up needing a different light bulb. I would definitely use Kivel Electric again if I need electric work.

He altered his schedule to get us in. He was prompt & efficient with his work. His pricing was also very reasonable. I would definitely use him for any electrical jobs.

We have a 1942 former duplex and on Sunday morning without any triggering event our power in the upstairs went out with a disturbingly lound explosive noise. A few attempts to unplug a few things and reset the circuit breaker did not rectify the situation. We got on the phone and tried a promising fellow understanding it was Sunday and we could wait til Monday but wanted to get on somebodies schedule. Monday morning and no response yet, went to work tried the same fellow again but same situation no response. I then went onto Angies list found John Kivel Electric - read his reviews and saw a piece about his skill in dealing with old houses. Called John up - he answered himself. We chatted he said he could meet me near noon the same day. John was waiting when I got home. John the master electrician and his Super assistant Connie started the detective process of figuring out what went wrong. The man is an old house wizard - in short order John tracked the problem to a bathroom light fixture and made everything better. I am writing this so as to let all my list mates how good an Electricial service John & Connie provide and also to convey how deeply I appreciated you coming to our rescue. Thank you John and Connie. When I called Kivel Electric, Mr. John Kivel answered the phone (even though I could tell he was at a job site) , discussed the project with me and scheduled the appointment. He kindly came on a Saturday, which was a big help to me given my work schedule. He gave me a cost estimate of $200 and when all was said and done, the bill was $200. Kivel himself did the job, arriving promptly. He communicates well, works efficiently and smartly. He had an apprentice helping him who was also a good guy. From the time they knocked on the door until the time they left was just over an hour. As other reviewers stated, I appreciate that Kivel will do small projects. I also appreciate his professionalism, friendliness, promptness, and value. I really dread using the contractors where the office dispatches someone to your house who usually has little or no clue why they are there, are often poor communicators, care little about the job, and then give you a bunch of reasons why the cost of the service exceeds the estimate by 25-200%, often stating "company policy", "unforeseen circumstances" etc. . Kivel is their opposite, thankfully! He certainly appears to understands the benefits of establishing good relationships with his customers, not just because that's a smart way to do business, but because he is truly a really decent guy.. Check him out for yourself, you won't regret it.

These guys are great ! Great communicators, down to earth and punctual. The quality of work was TOP NOTCH Took care of my laundry list of electrical needs professionally and at a great price, would very much recommend to everyone ! Thank you again

Called first thing in the morning and John said that he would be able to make it over same day, which was a relief since I didn't know if the issue was a potential fire hazard. He called later in the afternoon and let me know what time he would arrive. He was prompt, took off his shoes and started investigating. After about 20 minutes of trouble shooting, he discovered the issue. He explained to me what was wrong (outlet wiring was loose) and what he was going to do to fix it. He fixed it and even re-installed the light switch my husband removed. It was a great experience and will call John for any future electrical work/issues.

John was great, he first tried to help me on the phone get through the problem I was having, and when I couldn't figure it out he showed up the same day and resolved it. I would use him again for sure.
