The outlet is fine. The guy came out and didn't find the real problem that I found a little bit later; but that was outside of the electrical system. It was in the washer wiring and he said he doesn't have anything to do with that. The price I assume includes the time to make a service call. I didn't meet him. I was gone on the day he came did it, but my wife said he seemed like a pretty straightforward & honest guy. I asked if we had a more serious electrical problem then would she call him and she said yes. The price was reasonable for him to come out and make a call. I paid more for a call on my Arizona house. The wire was loose on the washer, but my wife said it's working fine now. He was on the phone and said he would out sometime in the afternoon. Anytime, the work done during the same day was fine with me. My wife thought he was very professional and carried himself very well. She liked him well enough and will definitely recommend doing more work with him.

this is the second time in a few months I've had John do electrical work in my house. He has been prompt with response to inquiries, has great communication skills and worked with me in coordinating a day that worked for me. He is professional and friendly; gets work done in a very timely manner. Cleans us any mess left behind. Gives estimates and tells you up front if something else could/should be done. Highly recommend; will call him for any of my future electrical needs:)

I really enjoy working with John, I have used him for many things: install exhaust fan in my bathroom, install new circuits in my basement, and install the ceiling lights. Always shows up on time and does great work for a good price.

The scheduled work came on the same day as a torrential rain storm. They were on time. They were professional and proficient. The work was all done in one day and everything works. I will have them return to do some more work on my duplex.

John was very prompt to return my call and set up a time for the service. He arrived on time and finished the work promptly. I would call on him for help with electrical circuit issues again.

I hired John after getting 3 bids for the electrical work for a major remodeling job. We choose him because it was clear he knows what he's doing, he likes what he does and he's really good it. During the bid John gave us great suggestions on how to place and configure the lighting/switches in the kitchen and what types of lighting would work well in each location...all of which we went with and are working out great. Before the remodel our switch/lighting set up made no sense, now it's prefect! John and his brother Jim did most of the work together, and since it was a major remodel they had to come back several times. John and Jim work very well together: they were always on time, asked me questions about any potential issues and made sure all the work was completed correctly. They were a key part of making our major remodel go smoothly and turn out exceptionally well. There is no question, John is the best. I highly recommend Kivel Electric, I have even recommended them to my parents!

They were able to do so without disturbing the ceiling by going inside some existing woodwork. Outstanding job in a very old home in Cathedral Hill area of St Paul. I used them subsequent to that initial job and had an excellent experience as well.

John and his helper were very careful to do the installation without damaging the walls of a very old house. The installation passed city inspection without a hitch. This guy knows his stuff.

Went smoothly. John made time in his schedule to do the work before the holidays. We were having some other work done in our main bath in January so we were anxious to have the exhaust fan/light installed. The fan is quiet and puts off good light. Everything went smoothly, and John was able to add some new outlets for us. He was careful when drilling into our plaster and used a shop vac to clean up.

He went beyond the norm. Very pleased.

John and Connie are very responsive and friendly. I had an issue with no power to a garage, which they traced inside the house to a faulty GFI receptacle. Within 30 min John had diagnosed the problem and replaced the outlet. They even came out on a Saturday to this (I'm not sure if there was an additional charge for a weekend call).

I called five contractors for installation of some GFIs and John was the only one who was flexible enough to come out to do the work within a week of my call. He did the installation, noticed a need for one additional GFI and installed that too. He also noticed a bad breaker in the service panel and replaced that. I am very pleased with his work and responsiveness. I would definitely call John again for any electrical work I needed done.

I thought I had a very large problem and explained my suspicions to John. He could have taken advantage of my opinion and made a large project out of it but didn't. He found the problem(s) and the cost was very reasonable. Honest and competent.

John was very responsive and was able to come out quickly to take a look at what I needed. We scheduled for soon after and he arrived on top and fully prepared. The work was done exactly as he said. He cleaned up everything and made sure the project was done like we needed. I have him coming back for a few other electrical projects that I wasn't ready for at that time. He's been incredibly responsive and very easy to work with. Highly recommended.

After a bad storm the transformer outside my house was either hit by lightening or there was a power surge. My neighbors house and my house were both hit and we both had electrical damage. Besides many of my appliances being damaged, I had two outlets that were fried and my electrical panel also had scorch marks in it. John told me the entire panel should be replaced because as he pulled off the face cover of the panel all my lights flickered and it was obvious there was much damage in the panel. John always was quick to follow up on phone calls even though I was not easy to get hold of. When I had questions about insurance he said he would talk to the claims adjuster to explain the damage. My neighbor and I both used John and were both very impressed. I will use John for all future electrical needs.

After a bad experience with an electrician, I called John Kivel, and explained my issues. He and his wife came to assess the same day (!) and did the work the next day(!!) Whereas the previous electrician indicated thing were too difficult and either unable to be done or unnecessary, John took a look, said he'd done a lot of switch replacement and bathroom sconce replacement he immediately gave me a firm estimate, and knew exactly what to do, did it and I am delighted!

I contacted John mid-morning and he answered the phone. He was very cordial as I described the problem and said he could come out by mid-afternoon. I sent him my contact info via email and he called back later to give a specifc time of arrival. He showed up on time. The problem was with an old circuit which ran out to the old garage from the second floor. The two wires were cut and capped off on the outside of the house. My wife and I thought the circuit was disabled when our new garage was built and a new power line run underground. The old line was still live and we needed it disconnected for safety reasons. John diagnosed the problem and gave us a couple of options with an estimate. As he was working he determined another option which was perfectly acceptable to us as well as cheaper. Total time of this project was less than one hour. John was friendly, efficient, and did quality work. I would not hesitate to use him again for our electrical needs.

I preface this by noting I collected bids from no less than 8 different A-grade Angie's List electrical contractors before settling on Kivel Electric for my basement remodel. John is a pleasant, trustworthy person who was willing to work within my budget constraints. While other contractors had the low price OR the friendly service, John had both. The scope of my project included: Family Room: 12 recessed lights, 8 receptacles (to code), 2 light switches with dimmers, and two extra receptacles-- one higher up on the wall where the TV will be mounted, and another on a support pillar in the center of the room. Bedroom: Install a new fan-rated box and ceiling fan. Light fixture in closet with single pole switch, receptacles to code (5?), CO2/smoke detector. Bathroom: Install GFI receptacle on 20 amp circuit. Wire bath fan to timer switch, install vanity light and overhead light to same switch. Install recess light in shower with appropriate waterproof trim. Install in-floor heat pad and thermostat. Hallway: Install fire/co2 alarm and outlet. John did some "extras" that I had not anticipated, and that he did not charge me extra for, which was fantastic. He seemed to strive to keep my wife and I happy. He also went out of his way to bring over and install temporary lighting for me to use during the project at no extra cost. I would say that his spirit of customer service is excellent. As for the work itself, everything passed inspection, he appeared to do a thorough job, and I feel confident that everything was done properly and will not turn my home into a giant fireball. :) If he was running late he made sure to give me a call and keep me informed. I considered giving him a "B" for responsiveness, only because I did have to reach out to him repeatedly in the early stages of planning, before his bid was accepted. I believe he was experiencing a high call volume at that time, and I never had a problem since, so I am guessing that was an anamoly. The other thing I would mention is that his initial bid was not detailed enough and I had to work with him to make sure everything I wanted done was explicitly covered in the bid. I've found this to be very common amongst contractors, however, and did not dock any points for it. Overall, things went smoothly and I plan on hiring him again in the future.

I thought I would have to install GFCI outlets to all the outlets in my basement. John found the broken ground instead and reconnected it for me. Big cost savings! Highly recommend.

John did a great job as always. I have had John in my home three times to do electrical work. He is the first person I call. Very professional, shows up exactly when he says he will be there and does great work. His proce is always right on with the quote he provides. He was able to install six recessed lights in my ceiling without cutting channels in my ceiling drywall...saved me a lot of money of drywall work. I would recommend John to anyone that needs an electrician!!

John was one of many that actually responded to my calls and quickly understood my need. John & Connie were both pleasant to talk with and very personable. John understood my sense of urgency and was here within 24 hours of my call to complete the 2.5 hours of work. I can't thank John enough and I will absolutely add him to the top of my list for future electrical needs! I rated a B in punctuality only because we originally agreed upon 9:30 AM for him to get here, He called around 9:35 to say he was on his way. Not a big deal, but I was waiting for him to arrive before I ran out. Overall I do give John and his team an A grade. I'm so appreciative. Thanks so much.

John called me back quickly after I left a message. He asked what I needed, and gave me an over-the-phone estimate. He was flexible about the date to get the job done, even suggesting that he come out over the weekend (though that didn't work for me). He showed up on time, and got the job done quickly and efficiently. When he saw the project, he gave me an estimate that was $50 more than he'd said over the phone. Overall, it was a good experience, and I'd hire him again.
