Capital Siding Windows & Roofing

My wife and I chose Capital to work on our project because of positive reviews here on Angie’s List, as well as the positive experience we had working with Tim Ryan during the sales process. Tim was very personable, answered the large number of questions we had, and was flexible in arranging installation of Andersen doors and windows we were interested in. Capital was not the lowest bidder, but we were comfortable with the cost because our experience had been good. Throughout and after our project, communication ended up being a significant issue, and a big enough one that I would be very reluctant to hire Capital again in the future. A couple examples: Capital was very responsive to me, but a few times Tim and Jeff’s responses came so fast and were so concise (like sent from a cell phone), that they didn’t seem genuine or like details about decisions wouldn’t get lost as we went forward. And, in fact, I had to remind Tim of decisions we made early on, as final touches and billing were taking place at the end of the project. Communication involving Capital’s subcontractor, Eagle Distributing, was poor. I never really knew who I was doing business with, because sometimes Capital would have me talk to Eagle, and sometimes they would talk to Eagle on my behalf. Eagle often came across as too busy for me and for the specific concerns I had. The day of the install, the Eagle guys left with the project unfinished in multiple key areas, and without letting me know that they were intending to come back. This situation caused me to panic, escalating the issue to Capital management, and some “high touch” communication would have completely prevented it. All of this is unfortunate, because Eagle really made Capital look bad. In the end, the product I got is very good and all issues were resolved, but the process I had to go through to get to that point felt like service I could get anywhere, and wasn’t what I expected from one of the most highly-rated companies. It is because of that that I have to rate Capital as a “C” overall, because the service was “average”, all things considered.

Capital did excellent work and they cleaned up after the job was completed. I would recommend Capital Siding to anyone looking for their service.

Very well. Jeff, the owner, was very informative and helpful upon initial telephone contact. His main "window" guy, Tim, was professional and responsive. I could text or call Tim any time of the day and would know that he would pick up and answer all my questions without judgment. The subs they used for actual window installation and new indoor trim were professional and reliable as well. The new interior trim work was installed impeccably and stained to match. We were VERY happy.

Our experience with Capital was fantastic from start to finish. Tim was great about matching the specifics of what we wanted with our budget and space. Jeff was very professional and thorough about explaining to us our choices when it came to picking out a window and type of glass and he was great about communicating with us throughout the entire process. Bryan did a phenomenal job of installing our window -- we feel lucky to have had him work on our house. He knows what he is doing and paid attention to every detail. He installed a window that has transformed our kitchen and first floor. We are very happy with our experience.

They did their work well, on time, at the agreed cost. It looks nice. The only area where things did not go well was they didn't tell us they put on the A/C cover and our A/C broke. But, they were willing to pay to fix that mistake. In the future, they should quick make sure that the AC is not on before covering the AC unit.

I contacted Capital Siding based on there Angie's List reviews and worked with Tim Ryan. Also contacted two other companies for comparison purposes. Capital Siding was competitive but my decision was based on more then that. The communication from quoting the job to completion of the work was wonderful. Tim made observations and suggestions for the roof and siding to be replaced that the other companies never mentioned. The workers were courteous and the cleanup was very thorough.

This was a complete and major overhaul to the outside of our home. We knew this was going to be expensive and we weren?t about to take this step without visiting with a number of highly rated construction companies from Angie?s list. All of which, I might add, were very professional. But in the end, we decided to go with Capital. Our salesperson was Tim Ryan. Tim was always very responsive in answering our questions and concerns before, and more importantly, after the deal was inked and the work had begun. I called/texted/emailed Tim, often and he always responded promptly, was always polite, and always had a can-do attitude. He was never short with me, he was always attentive to our questions and took the time to answer them in detail. Very important to us also, was the honest opinions he and his foreman Don and his crew gave to us. For us, this was a very large and daunting home project. At several points in the project, Don and Tim pointed out subtle issues in our original plan that would have made us unhappy if we had proceeded without some modifications. That attention to detail, and the courage to share it with us, was important to us. Just as importantly, in mid construction, we called Tim with some ?what ifs?. What if we do brick here/don?t do brick here, add shakes here, etc. Tim and crew took it all in stride and never missed a beat. To us, it was important to work with a local company and crew to know if we have problems we?ll have someone to turn to that will actually be here to assist us. I visited with the team working on my home on a number of occasions, and I can confirm that Capitals employees all make Minnesota their homes, are very polite, very competent, and hardworking, even my neighbors stopped by and told us they were impressed with the team. My wife and I are a bit picky and after the job was complete we pointed out a few minor issues we weren?t 100% happy with. Tim came out, took a look at them, and took care of all of our concerns within a couple of days. Because there were a number of modifications to the original plan along the way, I was somewhat concerned that when the final payment came due, there might be some added expenses tacked on that I wasn?t aware of. Not so, it was exactly as Tim and I had agreed on during the construction phase, not one penny more. We would highly recommend Capital to anyone looking to do work on their home, they were outstanding and we?re very happy with our decision! We love our ?new? home now, what was once plain and dated is now beautiful and a pleasure to look at every time we come home!

Our experience with Capital was excellent from start to finish. Out initial contact was with Tim Ryan who examined our roof and then met and worked with the insurance adjuster. Tim was punctual, friendly and professional. Tim helped assure that the insurance company provided shingles that were at least equivalent to those damaged by the hail. The exact shingle was no longer available so we received a slight upgrade. Tim recommended, and we purchased, an additional upgrade to storm resistant shingles. Tim pointed out that we should receive a home insurance discount for this upgrade. I contacted State Farm and they provided a discount that will pay for the upgrade in five or six years. Tim provided the paperwork necessary to secure the insurance discount. Since we have vaulted ceilings, Tim advised us to switch from turtle style roof vents to continuous ridge vent. On the morning of the install the Capital crew showed up early in the morning. Just after they arrived, a large dumpster was delivered. I was pleased that the dumpster driver put down boards to prevent damage to our driveway. (He also swept the driveway when he picked up the dumpster after job completion to make sure no nails were on the driveway!) The crew immediately went to work placing tarps and tearing off the old roof. Then the new shingles arrived and were placed on the roof with a crane. It was all like clockwork. A very well coordinated job. Tim checked in to make sure the crew had everything they needed and that all was going well. Tim had said to expect the job to take 1.5-2 days. However, they ended up having extra staff available so they completed our house, garage and two sheds in one day. Ezel, the crew lead, came back the next day to finish the cedar trim and installation of new vents. We noticed one minor thing the next day and Ezel came back immediately to correct it. Tim Ryan made the entire process extremely smooth from estimate to lien waiver and final payment. Ezel and his crew were very friendly and he emphasized that Capital wanted us to be very happy and to not hesitate to call if we had any concerns. He obviously took pride in their workmanship. Capital Siding & Windows is an excellent company. Based on our experience, they are very professional and ethical, highly organized and they do high quality work. I would highly recommend Capital to anyone who needs a new roof. All of my neighbors have gotten new roofs due to hail damage. After watching their roofs get replaced and having Capital do ours, I can say that our installation was the fastest and smoothest on our street.

I can Highly recommend Capital Windows siding and roofing for windows and siding. Jeff and Sheila were very knowledgeable and professional. Bryon and Dave came out and removed old windows, framed in the ones i did not want anymore, replace the ones I wanted with new and re-sided. I was was very happy with the outcome.

I met with Jeff and he was very friendly, accommodating, and gave what I thought was a fair price. I didn't feel like Jeff was there to sell me something I didn't need or send me in a direction I didn't want to go. He was knowledgeable and gave me a few things to think about that I hadn't considered that would have led to a much better result. He commented on items and took things into account that other bids I received did not so he was certainly more thorough. I ultimately decided to have our house repainted instead of having the siding replaced. I would seriously consider Capital for future work based on experience, quality, and price.

We are a return customer of Capital Siding, Windows and Roofing. It?s quite simple - Jeff, his wife Sheila and their crews are experienced, care about the work they are doing on your house and they do a great job. We hired them to replace our siding and windows in 2013 and again to replace our roof in July 2015. Jeff took the time to understand what we were looking for in new siding, windows and roofing and then made his recommendations. He is not pushy and understands you?re making a big decision. He spent a lot of time working with us and answering questions to ensure we went with the right colors and material for our home and for our neighborhood. His crews have worked with him for 15+ years and it?s evident in the way they handle themselves. They were respectful of our house and property and picked up all leftover debris before leaving for the day. They have great craftsmanship and are experienced in what they do. It was a great experience working with Jeff (both times!) and team from the beginning to the end. We would highly recommend Jeff and his team to work on your home and will hire them again in the future if needed.

This was by far the best and smoothest experience we've had with a contractor to date. Tim Ryan (our salesman) was responsive in answering questions and concerns before AND after the contract was signed. The crew showed up when they said they would show up, notified us when they weren't going to make it due to weather (rain, storms, etc) and Tim even stopped by a few times to make sure the job was going as smoothly as possible. We have never had a contractor do all these seemingly simple tasks before Capital. The job was managed very well and they kept us thoroughly impressed. The crew who worked on the house was polite, worked hard, answered our questions and didn't even grumble as we made the occasional change. They did a great job of cleaning up each night and even went above and beyond. In fact after the siding was done our salesman Tim stopped by to put the house numbers back up on the house since it took us a little bit to decide on what option we wanted to pick. We've had many compliments on the siding and couldn't be happier with how things have turned out. It may seem like we were impressed by basic customer service, but our experience with many different contractors from different has been un-returned phone calls, missed appointments, jobs being cancelled and poor workmanship. Sometimes contractors act like they don't want the business. That wasn't the case with Tim and Capital. We will likely be calling them for work in the next year or two as we tackle more projects around the house.

I had Capitol Siding come and give me an estimate for new siding....This, for me is/was a very large undertaking.. In today's culture, it is hard to find a quality, trustworthy company..I hit the jackpot when I had them redo my siding. If you are looking for a contractor for siding, etc. look no further. From Jeff to his foreman Steve and his crew these guys will treat your house as though it is theirs. AND they are some of the nicest people you will meet. Steve and his crew had to replace the toe-kick under front entyrway due to rot. Excellent work.. I have been a member of Angies List for about 20 years and have had painters, handymen and plumbers here in that time frame. NEVER have I ever had a company or a crew with the expertise which this company has. This review is the real deal..I sometimes wonder about all the fluff that I read on the List.. You can't go wrong with Capitol Siding and Windows......

I am stunned how fast, effortlessly and pleasantly our roofing project was done. Done, done, done! On time, really great, responsible, and respectful crew. I was very impressed by the team of roofers we were lucky enough to have do our roof. Their great positive attitudes, support of each other, shared commitment and passion to finish the job, not to mention skills were above and beyond any team I've seen in many years of coaching, leading and being a team member in a corporate or volunteer setting. The guys were so in tune with each other - as one was finished nailing in a new shingle, the next shingle would be slid down by his partner, working above, almost into place. They worked so seamlessly, so efficiently and almost wordlessly - everyone knew where to be, who's doing what, what's needed next. I am so thrilled our paths crossed and that Capital had the time and crew to take on our roofing project. I'll never forget how impressive this group of talented, hard, hard, hard-working men have been. It's a real tribute to Azael's and Jeff's leadership.

When Jeff Moore originally pitched this installation he said "Brian is an artist." That was a gross understatement. I have seen very few picture frames done as perfectly and beautifully as our windows. I am totally amazed at his workmanship. Our living room is beautiful. Capital Siding and Windows has added an incredible amount of value to our new home. Brian and Dave practically sterilized our yard when they cleaned up after the outside work was finished. They were both extremely respectful of our property and privacy and great people to work with. I keep hearing people complain about contractors who leave the job partially finished for an extended period of time and all I can say is, "You should talk to our friends at Capital Siding." Every time I've chosen Capital/Jeff Moore to do work on my home(s) I have been completely happy about the results. I guess I'm glad that I talked to a couple of other contractors because they did give me some good ideas (and I didn't have many in the beginning), but even considering anyone else for the work would be nuts. Thanks, as always, for everything you have done for us. POSTSCRIPT: (Three months later) I am the god of buyer's remorse and there are few things I've bought new that I didn't wish I'd have shopped more carefully for or didn't do the work myself. The more we live with these windows the happier we are with the choices we made and the work Brian did for us. There hasn't been a single moment when I've thought "I could have done that job for $X less if I'd have done it myself." There is no chance that I could have installed these 13 large windows in less than a whole summer of hard work and even less chance that I'd be as happy with the workmanship as I am with Brian's job. I have had more than enough honey-do projects with this house in our first summer in Red Wing to keep me busy and we will enjoy our new windows even more this coming winter when they make the house more pleasant and cheaper to heat.

We called Jeff as we had seen his great reviews on Angieslist and even though we are 1.5 hours away from him in Eau Claire, WI he came without a word of complaint. He stopped by our house and laid out all of our options and didn't pressure us one bit.(something unusual and welcome). He told us we were in no danger with our roof the way it was and to take our time in deciding(something no other person had told us). We were so WOW'd by his demeanor, friendliness, and knowledge that we knew we had the guy to do our job. They came on site in the spring did an outstanding job and were very quick and efficient, they cleaned up our yard afterwards and paid to have our satellite dish reset as the crew had a problem getting it back together. I can't say enough good things about this company, if you value honesty and integrity and a job well done... do NOT look any further. When we had others came out it was always a push to get the job done now and some of the guys even tried to get us to sign with them without a quote... Keep up the great work Jeff, we recommend you to anyone we know that needs work!!!

Tim Ryan our sales rep was very professional, and worked with our insurance company to complete our claim. Our siding installation team was John, Dwayne, and Tony. They did an outstanding job! They arrived at the work site early each morning, cleaned up each evening before they left and made sure the house was water tight in case of rain. They were very friendly and kept us up to date on any changes that had to be made before completing the work. The installation team had to work with the window installers tearing off siding preparing for the new window installation. We are very happy with how the siding looks on our house. WOW! OUTSTANDING! House projects are usually a nightmare, or minimally a big inconvenience. Not with Capital Siding. Every step of the way was a positive and honest experience resulting in the highest possible quality replacement windows. I initially started with another window company last summer. They came through quickly, didn't explain all the options, and pressured for a decision to meet 'a deal by the end of the month'. There was no pressure with Jeff, owner of Capital Siding and Windows. He explained that the 'deals' were a bluff to push you into making a decision. His expertise of the industry is evident each step of the way. Jeff took the time to explain (and re-explain) the process of full replacements vs. other options to make sure I knew exactly how it would look when the job was done. He also searched many window suppliers to find one that fit my requirements, including bringing out multiple samples. I had so many questions about many things, including the color. Jeff patiently answered them even when I asked more than once (or three, or four times). I ended up choosing Marvin Utlrex, a bit more expensive, but they were absolutely the right choice. I split the project into two phases to take care of the worst windows and skylights before winter. The first phase was completed last Nov and was so impressive. Azeal, the installer of the skylights, was outstanding. All junk inside and outside was cleaned up everyday. He took the time to find the best match possible for replacement roof tiles. I was expecting there to be a noticeable difference but the roof area around the sky lights looks like an exact match. UNBELIEVABLE. Then the first three windows were installed during unseasonably cold temps last Nov. They went in without a glitch! The installer, Brian Kowalski, is the very best carpenter I have worked with in 30+ years owning a home. First, he started by measuring the windows last summer. Then, he removed the old windows and installed first set of new ones. During the install, Brian found the drip slate (sp?) was rotted out and needed to be replaced. How he installed these windows without a mark anywhere both exterior and interior is beyond belief. I had just painted the exterior last summer, there was barely a touch up needed, just a few areas around the windows here and there. Brian also did the interior carpentry around the windows. The skylights could not be an exact match, so there was a small gap between the ceiling and the window. Brian filled the gap with a trim that would never need to be painted. It looks so professional. He also did the trim around all the windows. It is so precise, it looks better than the original. His attention to detail included wall repair and sanding around the windows so they were in perfect shape to paint. I couldn't hope for it to look any better. He also replaced an oak ledge that had been damaged since the home was originally built 26 years ago. The new custom ledge and trim around it are so impressive. Brian is truly a MASTER CRAFTSMAN. Finally, the second phase of the windows went in this spring. Brian completed the install of 10 windows within one week. The work was equally as impressive as last year. The inspector even complimented Brian - that's rare! The last step was to paint trim. Jeff recommended Jim Oberfrank. Jim primed and first coated the trim in his shop. This minimized the amount of time in my home. He proactively asked me if I liked the color of the trim, thinking it was a little stark. I so appreciated him bringing this up, it did seem a bit stark but being busy working while they were doing the job I hadn't noticed completely. He completely took care of picking another color and it worked perfectly with the white window color. He stained and varnished the new ledge, and took care of a ledge downstairs that had been weathered. He also completed a couple other small jobs around my home, including painting the larger trim in my master bath. The first coat looked a bit bright again so he once again took care of getting another color and it was perfect. I must also share that I had mistakenly locked him out of my home the third and final day of his work. He handled the mishap with patience and flexibility. Jim is a MASTER PAINTER. The entire project is a showcase of home upgrades at its finest. I cannot say enough about how happy I am with the outcome. I had hired Capital 15 years ago to replace my roof and repair exterior siding, so I knew how good they were. Nothing has changed except to be even better than expected! Congrats and thank you to Jeff and his team!

Worked with Tim and from start to finish he was professional, responsive and communicated details of the project clearly and professionally. Large dumpster positioned in our driveway and used for debris, did pose problems which were immediately addressed. The crew who installed the siding were friendly and communicative as well. Job site was left clean and neat upon completion.

The Not-So-Good: 1. I did not feel that CSW proactively communicated details clearly or punctually. In other words, we would be given a timeframe for the next step, and only once that timeframe had elapsed (and I called them) did I find out that things were delayed. I expressed my frustration about this and I think they were receptive to my feelings. 2. One of our sliding doors developed a crack in the frame that took almost two months to replace. The Good: 1. Once I did call CSW for any reason, either Tim or Jeff called me or emailed me almost immediately. 2. The sliding door replacement delay was not the fault of CSW, but rather the manufacturer giving bad information and hassling CSW on whose fault the defect was. Once that was settled, the installation was almost immediate. 3. Everyone we dealt with was exceptionally personable, reliable, and mostly knowledgeable. 4. There were never any excuses made for any issues. Once a problem was identified, a solution was agreed upon and implemented. 5. They were extremely flexible with our requests. Ours was a really large project that took about 10 full working days start to finish. At one point we requested they pause work because we had family in town, and they graciously agreed. 6. In January (three months after our last contact) we felt one of our sliders was not sealed properly. Within a week, the installer came to our house and sealed not only the slider we were concerned about but also the other slider adjacent to it. 7. So far we've had rain, snow, and extreme cold temperatures and there have been no issues with any of our other windows. All in all, I can honestly say that this is the best experience we have had with any of our home remodeling projects. I would definitely recommend Capital to anyone.

Though I never met him, the owner, Jeff was friendly, helpful and on top of things all the way along. Azael did the estimate and was on site each day. He was very good about communicating what he thought should be done and why. The work was done quickly and neatly and they did a through clean-up. The roof got snowed on before we could get it inspected, so Jeff stayed in touch until we had a melt and could get it done. They were really nice people and did really good work!

We had old cedar siding that had lots of woodpecker holes and windows that were rotting. They communicated very well and worked with my schedule to come out to provide estimates. I requested some revisions and they sent them back to me the next day. Work was scheduled and completed in a timely manner. They cleaned everything up and it looks awesome. They were a wonderful company to work with and I will use them again in the future.

The amount was paid by the insurance. The roof looks great and they did a good job cleaning afterwards. They addressed any concerns I had promptly. I would recommend them.

I had a wonderful experience with Capital for my new roof and gutters. Jeff is extremely kind, knowledgeable and most importantly a very honest business owner. Tim is also very nice and great to work with - he walked me through everything and made the entire process so easy and was always available for any questions. Several months after the work was performed at my home, I had an issue which was unrelated to the work that was done. Both Jeff and Tim promptly assisted me and went above and beyond to offer me guidance. I very much look forward to working with Jeff, Tim and their entire crew for my future needs. Quality of work is excellent. Communication was easy, clear - no problems. Estimate was reasonable - not the cheapest, not the most expensive. Workers are all respectful, they clean up very well. We have used this vendor twice now.
