S & R Heating, Cooling & Appliance Repair

I woke up on Sunday morning to a warm refrigerator and a thawing freezer. My usual appliance repair company said they couldn't get me in until Tuesday so I turned to Angie's List to find another provider. I left a message for S & R that was returned promptly. The man I spoke with told me that they could come out, but it would be a higher charge because it was Sunday. He advised me to put the items from the fridge and freezer I wanted to keep outside in a cooler (the temperature permitted this) and promised that they would be out on Monday. I was called on Monday, as promised, and given a two hour window. This was great as it allowed me to go about my day and be home when I was needed for the appointment. The young man showed up at the tail end of the appointment window, but was on time. He was polite, courteous and knowledgeable. He told me that the problem with my refrigerator wasn't a problem but a design flaw! I have had this fridge for 10 years and never once did I know that it had an "OFF" switch. He said that he's seen many people with that model of refrigerator accidentally bump the switch and turn it off without knowing. There wasn't one iota of irritability, condescension or pity; we laughed and he turned the fridge back on. Because that issue was so simple and quick, he helped with 2 other issues that have been ongoing - one that was even previously "repaired". We have arranged for him to come back to fix this other issue. I was grateful to the provider for giving honest information, giving advice that saved me money and doing it kindly and professionally. We have replaced our old appliance repair company for good!

I called this company because I wanted my AC checked, and wondered if the refrigeration was low. He added 2#'s of refrigerant for a total charge of $104 for refrigerant and labor. Today (6/29/15), I just had it checked by a different company and was told it had too much refrigerant. It would cost me more to remove the excess than it did to add in the first place because of hazardous waste charges. It has problems holding 75 degree temp in hot weather, which could be caused by excess refrigerant. We don't normally set it that cold so as long as it isnt causing problems, we will leave it. I would like to add that, if my memory serves me right, the person that made the measurements and added the refrigerant was a trainee or apprentice. The person that was his supervisor should have checked his measurements. It cost me $104 to have them add the refrigerant, and now it would cost me $155 to have it removed. If I get a satisfactory response from S & R Appliance Repair I will update this review. Addendum: S & R did call me on the 7/6/15 to offer recheck my AC unit and rectify any refridgerant issues. They offered to come on the 7th. They just left and found no problems, and felt that the refridgerant was OK. Scott thought perhaps some had leaked through some of the fittings, and after adding more on S & R's first visit, it stopped. S & R did not charge me extra for this extra trip; which I certainly appreciate. I must now contact Air Tech to better understand why they felt my AC was overcharged.

Rob was fantastic. I called on a Friday morning with a slightly urgent situation. I had an AC unit that was making a weird noise and it looked like the support frame had been compromised. I was concerned that it was going to fall and detach from the side of the house so I called S&R. The nice employee in the office told me that she would have someone give me a call to see when they might be able to fit me in. Within a few hours Rob called to let me know that he was trying to juggle some things around to get over to take a look at the unit. He came over that afternoon and ended up putting in a new compressor, filling up the refrigerant and securing the frame to the wall of the house. He took the time to explain everything very clearly to me and answer any questions. I have full confidence in his expertise and really appreciated that he found a way to fit me in with late notice on a Friday. He was even super nice to my overly-friendly dog. I would highly recommend S&R to anyone!

Scott of S&R Appliance has provided our furnace and air conditioner maintenance for about 25 years. He has been unfailingly competent, honest, and reliable. He is good-humored and, despite his many customers and busy schedule, always remembers both us and the details of our house's HVAC system. The most recent major job he and his coworkers performed was installing an entire new furnace and central air conditioner. The installation was as pain-free as possible for us and was finished by early afternoon, including the cleanup. Our gas bill, in particular, has dropped dramatically since then, and we've been warm (or cool as the case may be) and comfortable. I asked my husband if he wanted to add anything to this review, and here it is: "Scott's great!"

I called S & R Appliance because the inducer motor (exhaust) was no longer working. The tech (Grant) came out, and agreed with my diagnosis that the motor was bad, and indicated that he would need to check into getting a new motor. The next day, the owner of the company (Scott) called to indicate that it would cost $900 to have the motor replaced. I indicated that this sounded very high, but I did not really have a choice, and I agreed to go forward with this. The motor was replaced that same day. The invoice indicated that the cost for the motor was $638, with the rest of the cost being labor. Subsequently, I did some research, and found that the same make and model of inducer motor is available online from $268 - $284. I also found that this motor is available from a retail parts distributor (who is only about 3 miles away from S & R) for $350. I called to question Scott about the huge difference between the cost of the motor, and the cost that he charged me, and he indicated that they had expenses, such as $26 for shipping. I indicated that I still found the price difference to be extremely high, and he offered me a $20 adjustment, which I declined. He did not tell me what the motor actually cost him. Bottom line, be very careful when dealing with S & R as far as pricing is concerned. I fell that they gouged me in this case because my furnace was out, and I did not have a lot of choices.

We had a bunch of high-end stuff added because of allergies. It took them probably about three or four days at the most. Everything was good and then, the owner who is also the salesman came out and walked-through everything. So, everything was good. The owner is real nice. He is a friendly guy. He is the typical salesman-type guy, but he was very courteous and accommodating. We were in a jam. He is trustworthy as well. They were very fair priced. The quality was very good. We had a couple of meetings before and he was always on time for those.

The furnace was not running properly and after a few days the motor started to make a horrible noise and there was water on the floor under the furnace. We had S & R service our air conditioner about a year and a half ago so called them for service again this time. We called at 8PM the message told us to call Scott's cell phone and he answered right away. He said he would be over first thing in the morning and he was. He was here by 7AM, cleaned the trap hose and drain, checked the exhaust and realigned the pvc pipe out the side of the house. He said it was the inducer motor and he would order it right away. He said it was noisy but was safe to run until it could be fixed. He called to say he was sorry but to get the part we would have to pay for the kit which was expensive. It was the same problem we had with the AC repair on this model. There was nothing he could do about that situation. He was busy and said he would get back to us as soon as he had an opening but if we lost heat to call immediately. It took longer than I had expected to get it repaired but we were never without heat and we now have a quiet furnace again. We had the furnace put in by another company about 10 years ago and that company sold us a very unreliable brand of furnace. Scott is very professional and we would highly recommend his service.

I've used this Company for about 9 years now. They've install new furnace and new a/c.....both of them in emergency situations to which Scott responded within just hours. They're always prompt and professional. I'm among their #1 fans!!!!

we plan on hiring S & R to do yearly maintainence.

Called for an estimate to get a garage heater installed and the person I needed to talk with wasn't there but he would call me back . He called back the same day and was very polite . After going over the work I needed done he informed me they would charge me for an estimate because I did not purchase the heater from them. Well I guess i'm a little confused since S & R's Angie's List page said Free Estimates . If its not Free or Free if you do this than you should say that on the Angie's List page

S&R is an exceptional company. What I like best about S&R is they have never driven away without fixing whatever is broken. I have had them to my house seven times and whatever they need is always out in their truck. I asked about that one time and Rob said that is because they invest in keeping the inventory of their truck supplied well. When they use a part at a customer's house, they replace it immediately instead of waiting for the next customer to need one. That way, I don't have to wait for them to order a part to get my dryer or washer or furnace fixed. When I had my dryer repaired, they offered to clean the lint trap for me with their special vacuum. THey also turned off the buzzer on my dryer because it annoyed me. That's an unusual request but they were happy to do it for me and didn't charge me for it. When I asked about vent cleaning, they told me they didn't think it was necessary but could recommend some vent cleaning companies that do a nice job. When I had my furnace problems, they did the repair but offered to help me make a decision about whether I would like to replace the furnace instead. If I decided to buy a new furnace, the repair and the new parts they had installed would be refunded. That was cool! We had the repair and our furnace worked again and then a few weeks later they installed a new Bryant furnace and air conditioner system. The whole system was installed and running all in one day and the work was done neatly. They removed the old furnace and the room was really clean afterwards. All the pipes and electrical were compacted together and organized along the ceiling and out of the house. That was more work for them, but the results are beautiful. At my request, they also moved my thermostat from an area that doesn't get much use to a central area near my kitchen. Then they trained me in on how to use the new thermostat. I have so much more control over the temperature and humidity in my house now and can monitor it easily in the new spot. My new system is so much more efficient and the heating and air conditioning bill went down considerably right away. S&R offers convenient service packages, too, that remind you about when filter changes need to happen and keep the system running at peak condition. I am going on and on about S&R - but I am just so thrilled with their service. I just found them in the phone book - that was my lucky day!!

Very professional and on time. They where very clean in the installation process. Would use them again with no problem.

It worked out great and I was very happy. We paid in advance to have our air conditioner checked after we earlier had our furnace checked.

They're pretty good. Their service has been good. Their prices seemed reasonable. Their people are polite, competent and very friendly. We have their magnetic card on our furnace. They're the first people that we call when we need it.

They know what they are doing and are really good people. Their service is excellent and they are very timely. They are very responsive and it has worked very well for us. They have real expertise in their installations. We cannot say enough good about them. This company came highly recommended. They were competitive on pricing. It was a little higher but, it was quality merchandise. They were highly rated in consumer magazine.

It's been over ten years and they were very, very good back then. I always thought that he was fair in what he did and they were dependable on everything. I had a dishwasher that he had to repair and he told me how much it would cost to repair it so I just asked him to get me a new one. I really trusted him. I thought he was competitive on pricing and I felt that he was honest and nice to deal with.

We were very satisfied and they were very good. They also were very responsive.

They have been fine and also do the same service yearly for my air conditioner. The total yearly cost for both is about $250. I have been dealing with them for a long time and I guess I trust them. They have always been fair with me and I can rely on them. They are not cheap.

They do a good work and they're friendly. I would recommend them.
