Ostvig Tree Service

We have been Ostivig Tree Care customers since 2010. We interviewed several other companies before deciding upon Ostvig. They distinguished themselves from the others immediately. The process was well organized from start to finish with the first step being to meet with one of their extremely knowledgeable arborists. The scope of the work is evaluated and the cost is assessed. If the customer decides to proceed, a date is set and a crew is sent out to complete the work. We have been impressed by Ostvig’s professionalism both in their appearance and in their manner. They are conscientious about being on time and staying in touch if issues, such as weather, might preempt a job. The individuals that do the work of pruning, tree removal or various treatments related to insects or tree illness take pride in their work and have consistently been polite, punctual and conscientious when it comes to completing the task as promised and have carefully cleaned up after every job. When we have had questions about a job or have requested a follow up call, the response has been prompt and courteous. We would definitely recommend them.

My son and I are both clients of Ostvig. On Monday, I tried to contact them regarding some recent storm damage at my son's house. He had evergreen trees that were leaning and an Ash with some broken branches. While I do appreciate that tree service providers were terribly busy due to the demand resulting from the storm, we were, nevertheless, extremely displeased with the service and professionalism of Ostvig: Monday I left a message with the answering service. There was no call back, ever. I tried again on Tuesday, but still no live operator. Wednesday, I got a live operator but was told to leave my number and someone would call back. He was not interested in the problem. He was just taking numbers. Thursday, someone did call back and listened to a description of the issue. Then, they gave me the cell phone number of an arborist. I called the cell and left a message. A few hours later, the arborist called back. I described the problem to him and we made an appointment to meet at my son's house on Friday at 1:00 PM. My son, Justin, arranged to take time off from work to meet us there. At approximately 1:15, the arborist, Scott, called to say he would be late. No big deal. At 1:30 he called again to say he wasn't going to make it at all because traffic was too bad. He then asked me for more details on the problem. At this point I gave the phone to my son who was now there so that they could talk and arrange another appointment. Scott essentially told us he was not interested in trying to do anything for leaning trees, i.e. attaching cables to pull straight. He also said that regarding the broken branches on the ash, they were booked for the next month and wasn't even interested in booking an appointment at this time. He also informed us there was a $300 minimum so that unless we needed additional pruning, they wouldn't bother with it. So, the bottom line is that we felt we got a big run around which wasted a lot of our time. We don't have a problem with the broken branches not being trimmed for another month, but my son does have a tree that is leaning and could potentially fall in the next storm doing some damage to his house. We wanted professional advice as to whether it could be straightened or whether it needed to be removed or topped. If Ostvig didn't want to address that issue, then they should have made that clear up front without wasting our time. .

It went very well. They did forget to perform the cabling, but came back the next day when I called to remind them about it. All in all, very professional and well done.

They removed the tree, ground the stump, raked the are and were done in about fifty minutes. They did a great job, and you can't tell there was ever a tree where they took one out. They were very professional. We used them to grind two tree stumps earlier this spring. They did a great job that time too. I would definitely use them again for tree service.

We got estimates from three different tree care services to cut a large limb on our big silver maple that was hanging over our house. We ultimately chose Ostvig because they offered to prune the maple along with a birch out front, along with removing the limb, for the best price overall. After I called to set up the appointment, I was told to send an email to the general Ostvig email account confirming the appointment. I never got an email back, so I called again just to make sure they received it. (They had.) The crew arrived right on time, even a bit early, on the day of the appointment and had the limb removed and both trees pruned within three hours. There was tons of debris on our yard after the pruning, so I was impressed that they cleaned the yard so well that you could barely tell someone was there! They seemed to do a great job pruning the trees and our trees look very good. I asked them if they could leave us some firewood, and they left us several big logs that we'll have to chop up into smaller logs ourselves. After the job was done and the yard cleaned up, they drove off. We received a bill in the mail a week or so later. The company was very professional overall and I'd consider using them again for another tree job.

They were very professional and prompt when we called them for a quote. They came out several times before we finally decided to have the work done. They did a great job trimming the trees and they cleaned everything up. We would call them again if we needed to have more work done.

They came out and estimated what *needed* to be done in the yard, trimming trees, ensuring the health of the trees, etc. and presented a bid for over $2000!! We then got an estimate from another company, exact same instructions, and they did the work for $150. I couldn't believe the difference in price.

They came right out to give me an estimate. The tree was sitting on a power line, so they had to wait for the electric company to shut off the power. Ostvig Tree came out right away after power was shut off, removed the trees, and cleaned up the yard.

A large linden tree blew down on Monday, Aug 1. I called several local tree removal services. Ostvig responded quickly, gave me a fair estimate, and was able to remove the tree in just a few days after meeting with us. Good, courteous, and professional.

I would give them high marks all around for everything. The quote was reasonable. They showed up and came out when they said they would. It is hard to sometimes get contractors to come out and give you bids. So, I appreciated their punctuality. I decided not to take the tree down and I am going to wait for another year, but I will definitely have them do it. Their responsiveness was perfect as well.

They are very courteous and efficient. They cleaned up everything and did a great. Whenever I need tree work done, I automatically call them. They are very helpful and knowledgeable.

I was so impressed with the two workers who came out that I sent out a letter to the owner. They were so careful and precise in their work. They also cleaned up very well after themselves. They were exceptionally friendly and accommodating. I can't say enough good things about them.

TOOK SEVERAL DAYS TO HEAR FROM THE COMPANY AFTER MY INITIAL CALL. GENTLEMAN CALLED TO GET DIRECTIONS TO MY HOME AND SAID HE WOULD BE OUT THE NEXT DAY. NO ONE EVERY SHOWED UP OR CALLED TO SAY THEY WEREN'T COMING. HAVEN'T HEARD FROM THEM SINCE. USED ANOTHER COMPANY.

GAVE ME GOOD INFORMATION, VERY PERSONABLE, DIDN'T GO OVERBOARD TRYING TO SELL ME ON THEIR SERVICES (PRUNING, TREATMENT, ETC).

IT IS A SMALLER LOCAL AND FAMILY OWNED BUSINESS. THEIR ARBORISTS ARE VERY KNOWLEDGEABLE AND THOROUGH.
