Renee met with us to get our sense of style, budget and desired outcome. She gave suggested we keep our existing cabinets (big savings) and add crown molding. She took us shopping for countertops, giving us a good start on what to look for that would go with our cabinets. She advised tile flooring to avoid a wood-overload look wooden floors would give us. We talked about maybe staining the crown molding in an accent color, but decided against as we walked thru the "some-day" redo of the living room floor. So she definitely had a full home view, to match our needs. She acted as general contractor giving us the first assignments (go pick out/buy appliances) because the process is overwhelming at first - with so much to do, so many variables and no idea of the time table (it's time to be choosing your countertop). She limited the universe of vendors to a few - these two appliance stores have local service teams, try there). We didn't have to use her suggested vendors - but we saved time and money when we did. She told us what was no longer fashionable in our home (brass doorknobs) and what is (oil rubbed bronze finishes). She gave us advice about when we were making a choice for resale or for ourselves (we went for a granite countertop for us, not for resale value). She got us a handyman/carpenter who handled much of the work for less money. She's a very good listener, tactful and an uplifting person to be around. Very positive attitude! I highly recommend Renee and we plan to continue the home remodeling with her.
Description of Work: Renee does both home staging when you want to sell your home, or interior design in general. We want to sell in ~5 yrs and decided it was time to remodel the kitchen - not just move chairs and tables, but a bigger deal. We started with open minds, sensitive to costs, and wanted a sale-friendly end product. We targeted $18K on the kitchen redo (appliances extra) and just about hit that in the end for the kitchen portion. We did extend beyond the kitchen - it made sense to change the flooring in the main hallway/laundry, and to update all the hallway light fixtures (even the upstairs). So the project overall grew to a $30K total, but we accepted each of those changes and could have kept the old patio door and old window treatment. Despite the cost, we are very happy with the work done and feel Renee saved us time and money again and again, besides having a fantastic eye for color and design. The kitchen backsplash and kitchen floor are tile (different kinds) and we might have done ok picking out tiles... but I wasn't prepared for picking out grout (different colors in both areas). It's the small things she improved that make it all come together. We redid lights, flattened the ceiling (stucco) to reduce shadows, painted ceiling and walls/hallway, replaced most appliances, half the main floor (all same tile), moved up two cabinets (very dramatic look!), new granite countertop, new patio door, four new window treatments, new handles on kitchen cabinets, new faucet/sink, new backsplash w/accent design, over and under cabinet lights, repair work (carpentry on cabinets and plumbing leak), hallway rugs.
