Black Goose Chimney

Our fireplace chimney needed cleaning, and as in the past, we called Black Goose. The technician arrived, cleaned the chimney, took some photographs, all of which took an hour. The charge was $571.59!! I was shocked!! I thought there was some mistake, so I called Black Goose, and was told it reflected their standard cleaning fee. I pointed out the technician was only here for ONE HOUR, surely we should be charged less!?! I was told again that was the fee, it was nonnegotiable. Still in shock, I paid the technician, and he left. Meanwhile, I was left with the feeling of having been robbed. As a paying customer, I feel used and disrespected by a company with a hard line pricing policy that's all about money. We've hired Black Goose before and have always been satisfied with their work, but over the years we've felt taken advantage of by their price gouging, which has only worsened. This last incident was the final straw. I've since contacted several local companies for price comparisons: on average Black Goose is $200.00 higher. We will not use Black Goose again. If you value fair pricing and customer respect, do not do business with this company.

Jim and his team removed 2 wood stoves from my house, including the piping and external chimney. One unit was over 500 lbs and they had the equipment to handle it with ease. They were professional, clean and got the job done quickly. I would use Black Goose again.

My home has no air ducts in an upstairs bedroom (yet it has central heating), so I looked at various alternatives, from space heaters (potentially dangerous, high electric consumption) to an additional heating unit with outdoor fan (expensive). I spoke to Jim and he informed me of a radiant heat option, using panels, controllable by thermostat, that heat efficiently and only in the areas needed. I purchased the panels from Black Goose and had them installed -- and they work great! I appreciate the time Jim spent with me, helping me understand how they work and what would be required for installation. I would use Black Goose again if the situation ever arises.

I made an appt to have our fireplace and inspected after we purchased the house in June. The previous owners didn't use the fireplace so I knew there was work to be done. The inspector came out and did nothing more than shine a flashlight up into the chimney but didn't clean the fireplace. He did check the wood burning stove in the kitchen and cleaned it. He told me it would require some work and a quote would be sent to me. I was charged $500 for not a whole lot of anything. After waiting on the quote, I finally called at the end of September and was told it would be sent to me soon. I call again two weeks later to ask for the quote and was promised it would be completed. When I did finally receive it the quote was so vague that I had no idea what the work would cost me besides $900 for scaffolding to reach the chimney (shouldn't a company like this have the supplies they need?) and $215 and hour for a lot of "we might" or "we may" do this or that. Needless to say, it is almost November and still nothing has been done so I am cutting my losses after an attempt at contacting the owner and moving on to another company. I would absolutely not recommend Black Goose.

First of all, they did a check to see if we could light the fire. So, he did an inspection of the chimney. Then the guy said it would need a repair. They sent my husband an e-mail with information of what was wrong with it and stuff. I wouldn't use them again. They sent a guy out here that was sick, talking and hacking and everything. The guy was late. They were late on getting the information back to us.

He did a good job, but I've had a hard time scheduling another appointment.

They were very professional. They came out on schedule. They had to travel a ways to do it. He found a problem, so they did everything I could have hoped for. They didn't actually clean it, because they found a problem that needed to be repaired, but they caught a potential danger for us, so that was good. We were really satisfied with them.

Black Goose had said they would pick up the stove for us since it was not far from their office. They did not tell us they were charging us for that. Then, when they came to install the stove, they didn't have the right equipment so had to come back. When they actually installed the stove, they dropped it and cracked the floor pad that was built for the stove to sit on. The floor by our front door was also cracked. They denied that they dropped the stove and refused to compensate for us needing to replace the floor pad which delayed the installation. We were charged an extra $750.00 for them picking the stove and removeing the old one which I feel was excessive.

Water was getting into my basement through the chimney when it was windy and raining really hard. I was going to have a large cover put on it for around $400. Fortunately, once the worker was up there, he determined that he could fix the problem without having to get the cover which saved me $150. He stated that if that didn't resolve the problem and I still needed a cover, they would reduce the price. So far, it seems to be working! I would definitely recommend them.

Initial evaluation included each room, each vent, and entire duct system in the basement. Explanations were very thorough. The technicians arrived on time and actually worked the entire time that they were here. My questions were answered, and I was able to compare their service with other vendors that I have used in the past. Black Goose was far better than anything I expected. I know that my ducts have finally been cleaned correctly. I will definitely use them in the future!

The technician arrived on time, was very courteous and knowledgeable, and appears to have done a nice job. We just bought this house, and he was able to tell us about the wood stove and chimney lining, including which company likely did the installation. He also gave advice on efficient operation of the wood stove. He cleaned up after himself and left all furniture, doors, etc., as he found them.
