Derek (the proprietor) did the work as subcontractor for Tom Becker. He was extremely painstaking, detail-oriented, and perfectionist. He was also consistently cheerful and personable. Derek kept us fully informed at all times about the progress of the job. We recommend him enthusiastically.

My daughter bought an older 1960's house and one of the things at the top of our list was re-doing the main bathroom. The tub, tiles, fixtures, vanity, and everything was pretty dated and in need of immediate attention. I contacted Reis because he did a similar job for a friend of mine at a pretty reasonable cost. Reis came over within a couple days to look things over and we pretty much explained to him what we were looking for. We planned on removing the old wall paper ourselves, keeping the current toilet and tiles but wanted the vanity, tub, surround, and shower doors all updated. We gave Reis quite a bit of freedom as far as making decisions (just a couple thoughts on colors) and let him make the majority of the calls. I think we told him to do it as nice as possible but not to break the bank either. Reis scheduled us for about 2-3 weeks out, ordered the materials and that's about it. He delivered everything and made all the necessary arrangements with the plumbers and electricians he typically works with. We still have a ways to go..........the bathroom is done and looks great......we're totally pleased with his work and decisions. He made a few command decisions regarding the flooring and light bar that made perfect sense.....he put in a beautiful tub with floor to ceiling tile and an accent strip, a new vanity with a granite or stone counter, excellent brushed aluminum Moeler fixtures, totally re-did the floor with nice ceramic tiles because he didn't think the original floor would be accepetable, and put up a shower door that easily beats the one at my house. We still have to remove the wallpaper and paint but when we do I can tell you right now the bathroom is gonna kick the you-know-what out of my current bath and we're definitely gonna be calling Reis back to our own house at some point in the future.....

The installation went wonderfully. Derek did everything the way it was supposed to be. He didn't cut any corners. I cannot belive how beautifully he cut the wood around our fireplace (as just one example of his craftsmanship).

Derrick did a great job, creating clean, straight, and narrow grout lines. He matched the height perfectly to the adjacent hardwood. He was at his best however when he worked to accommodate our need to walk through area he was working on. He could not have been more considerate of us or our convenience as he worked. Also we would have spent $138 dollars on some fancy grout at the tile shop but he suggested a better looking grout from Home Depot for $30 instead.

Derek was very skilled and conscientious. He ran into some issues with the tile while cutting it and pointed it out to us right away. Due to his experience, he was able to find a way to cut the tile that would not chip the edging and prevented us from having to buy new tile. The process went very smoothly and the floors look wonderful. Overall, a good experience.

Derek did a great job installing my kitchen tile, to include the needed preparation work and precise cutting around obstacles. He went above and beyond to ensure my back door closed effectively. The basement floor looks fantastic....he added transitions where I didn't even expect them. He is very detail oriented and the results show that. Derek always showed up on time and cleaned up. He is very personable and customer oriented. I highly recommend him for flooring and I'm planning on hiring him to tile a backsplash.

Derek showed up when agreed to. He had numerous great ideas and moved us away from some ideas he didn't think were aesthetic or practical. Derek fulfilled (and then some) all of our wants. The floor and backsplash look fabulous! Derek was prompt, courteous and honest. We WILL call Derek if we need any more tile work done.

He did a real good job and it took about a week-and-a-half to do the job. Their price was good; it was lower than another company that bid.

Derek was great. He was very easy to get along with and very willing to go above and beyond to make sure that we were satisfied with everything. As a sub-contractor he wasn't involved with the actual quote or sale but he was selected by Tom Becker based on his experience with the Naftco tiles we selected. We found Derek to be a great choice. He was neat, clean, and his work turned out beautiful. I would easily recommend him for any type of tiling!!!

Derek Moffat was very helpful in giving us suggestions on the best size of tile to use, which layout would look the best, and finishing touches we might want to consider. We went with all of his ideas and let him pick out grout color as well. His work is exceptional and we couldn't be more pleased! Thanks Derek!

Derek was a sub contractor brought in through another highly-rated Angie's List flooring provider. We had done a slate tile surround at a previous residence and knew we wanted something different here. We'd selected a beautiful travertine, but were still assuming we'd just do 12" tiles around the whole. Derek immediately suggested using larger tiles so we could minimize the number of grout lines and keep them very small. He seemed to know what he was talking about so even though I had a bit of a tough time visualizing it (despite his valiant efforts) we went with it. He was 100% right. You can hardly see the grout lines and the fireplace looks amazing - the stone really stands out and makes the entire fireplace look more substantial and elegant. His suggested layout had a lot to do with it - looks much more upscale than the smaller tiles would have. He had some surprises, too. The drywall completely came apart when he removed the old tile, so he had to completely rebuild the surface around the fireplace unit (without changing his bid). Most of all, Derek worked us in an already VERY busy schedule before he left on vacation - we were on a tight timeline to complete a significant amount of work to our new house before moving. He came on a Saturday to install the tile and a Sunday to grout it! He was extremely pleasant, great to have around and is a true craftsman when it comes to tile. We will definitely call him for any future tile needs.

It went great! Derek was a hard worker, and did a superb job! He clearly has expertise doing this work, and I'd happily have him do more work for me in the future.

Derek is excellent. He is a quality craftsman and a standup guy. Derek's work was high quality. He really takes care in his installations and time to tell you what is going on and why. We searched Angie's List and selected only A rated contractors, small owner operated, doing mainly tile work and in whom we could have confidence after reading their reviews. We got four bids and Derek (Moffat) was by far the lowest, about half the top bid. In discussing the job, he had a good idea what needed to be done and had good suggestions. He said he would do a great job and we were not disappointed. We had prepared the area to be tiled but is was still quite uneven. Nevertheless, he said he would make it work and he did, without hassling over additional cost. We only paid for the additional thinset needed to level out the wall. He worked over multiple days to allow the thinset to properly dry. Even though he was ill at the time we agreed for him to start the job, he was willing to work on the weekend to get it done. The bathrooms look fantastic. Others have commented on how good it looks, and other contractors have judged the job to be excellent. Though perhaps trite to say, "ceramic tile is all he does and he does it well." Besides he was great to work with, knowledgeable, and professional. I appreciated that he had a good eye for what would look good - with the grout lines balanced and evenly spaced. I would highly recommend him for any tile job - you would not be disappointed. He will make it right.

Derek started on April 18, 2011 and worked for the remainder of the week. The first day was the tedious, dirty, noisy phase which required stripping the vintage 1960 ceramic tile. Over the remaining four days he created a masterpiece. The techniques for cutting and laying were done with much precision. Along the way he was very conscientious of conveying any pitfalls or complications and how he was planning to overcome them. He is a good problem solver and takes pride in his work and customer satisfaction.

Derek came and provided a quote for work to be done. He was very knowledgeable concerning some problem areas we had in our bathroom and had great ideas for fixing them within our budget. He was punctual and courteous. He was at our house over a couple of days to lay and grout the tiles. We had a few minor problems with our wall that he was also able to take care of for us which was nice because otherwise we would have had to do it ourselves or find another contractor and delay the work. We appreciated that he was able to just take care of it. The finished product is beautiful and we are very pleased. We have more work lined up for the future.
